T-Mobile guys, unlock code for hd2 - HD2 General

I made the mistake of buying a hd2 off eBay and the guy claimed it was just a cracked screen but I have also found some of the hardware buttons also do not work. Since the phone is locked to T-Mobile and I am useing att I don't have a good way to test that it will make phone calls so I can be sure I want to dump some Money into fixing it. From what I was told if you have a active T-Mobile account you can request free unlock codes and I was wondering if someone would not mind doing this for me. Or if you have a way I could test it with out a T-Mobile similar that would be fine also. The imei number is 357779038858930. Please send a pm or post on here if you can help. I hope this is the right spot to post. Thank you

Well the first thing you should know is it will cost a good bit of money to fix the phone. Your best bet is to return it and say it wasn't as described. Even if he doesn't except returns you still may file a claim with ebay so that he will refund some or all of your money and/or do the return. Just to let you know you can probably find one on ebay used still in working order for around $125-$175 so it would really end up being cheaper to do it that way.
your phone probably cost about $100, then count in $80 for a new LCD screen and digitizer. this brings it to around $180. If the Keypad Buttons are messed up you'll need a replacement, thats another $10. hopefully you wont need to buy a new flex cable and side button membrane which could be another $25. This is if you do it your self but i do know that sometimes ebay sells crack screen replacement service for around $100. This will only fix the screen so if you have a hardware issue its going to cost more. I dont want to talk you out of the phone because it really is a great phone but i would check into all these things first and if you feel its worth it then go ahead. If not atleast you can probably make the guy take the phone back since he messed up on listing it right.
Doing the unlock service: If you still dont have a taker on this pm me and i'll see if i can do it for you. I know that i've done it several times before so my only question for t-mobile woul be is there a limit to how many i can do. i'll try and find that out myself so that if you dont have any takers and there is not a limit that i'll be able to do it for you.

-It costs about 15$ to unlock it online by using IMEI #.
-The only way to unlock it for free is that u have someone using tmobile. He uses this hd2 for 3 months then he can request unlock code from tmobile for free.

that's not true.
He just has to have an account for 3 months, he doesn't actually have to use that specific device for 3 months.

Dropped my G2 = glass cracked!

I've found a replacement screen on eBay for $68 but have no idea how to replace it. I don't see any disassembly of the screen on any of the teardown pics. Any help would be much appreciated.
Insurance thru tmo. Better off getting brand new out the box. Just my thought.
[G2/HTC Vision]
Yeah, that would be ideal but I bought the phone used. No insurance. Also everything, including the touchscreen, works perfectly fine still. The glass is just cracked.

You can call T-Mo, have them add the premium insurance, and then call back in a couple days and have them give you a replacement under the plan for $130.
EDIT: Make sure to get confirmation on this before you go through.
Of course, $68 is much better than $130. This link to a Desire Z teardown shows the top panel being taken apart (about 2/3 of the way down the page). It's a hell of a process; one that might leave you with more than just a screen issue if something were to go wrong.
Pix please and also what link are r u looking at? $68 seems to cheap. Just wanna make sure you dont end up with a mytouch or hero screen
Wow, thanks for your help so far guys. Sorry about the links, it wouldnt let me post a normal link since Im a new user, so just cut and paste.
Here is a link to the replacement screen I found on eBay, its actually $58:

thats pretty bad on the phone but yes that is the right screen.
You cracked the touch screen part not the lcd which would of cost more.
Good luck with replacing it. Idk how good you are at this stuff but for me it doesnt look to hard just make sure you have all the right tools.
and @ EfemaN
thanks for the link. and has anyone looked to see if the led has multi- color?
i don't think you can add insurance now. only at the time you bought the phone.
actually when i bought, they added insurance w/o telling me. i found it later and canceled cuz it's 6.99/mo and deductible is 130. i thought 130 is way too much.
how much will HTC charge you? around 200?
HTC wont even repair them yet, that is the worst part. Below is the email I got from HTC customer service.
We apologize for any issues you are experiencing with your device and would be happy to assist. Unfortunately, we are not currently supporting this device for repair. We will have RMA options available soon, but do not have an ETA on when this will take effect. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Customer Care at 1.888.356.2375.
I was able to remove and re-add insurance back over the last year or so that I had my Blackberry. There's no harm in just calling to ask.
I just called T-Mobile to have a new G2 sent (having radio issues), and during the usual agreement word-for-word reading, the rep mentioned the "if we find that you screwed up your phone" fee of.. I believe she said around $280, and if I remember correctly, it was $130 for the Blackberry. That $68 screen seems a little more attractive now...
I called and tried to add insurance to my G2 today. T-Mobile said I had the phone more than 15 days and could not add it :-(
They did say that there is a year warranty on the phone that covers defects, but not breaks caused by consumer.
I also asked if they have an open enrollment period like some phone insurance companies do and they said that they didn't.
The DID however say that if I went to a T-Mobile store and got any repairs or exchanges done, I would be able to add insurance.
FYI my G2 is in perfect condition. Was just wanting to know if I could add it. Wish I would have when I had the chance.
Just so you guys are aware..
Insurance can be added only during an open enrollment period - purchase of a new phone or a warranty exchange. More or less, whenever T-mobile gives you a phone, you have 14 days to add it to the line.
That being said, the qualifying event that enables you to add insurance to your line doesn't necessarily have to cover the phone that was purchased or exchanged. The insurance will actually follow the sim card (iphone excluded) so that if you put your sim card into another device, that is actually the device that is currently covered.
Now, if you have a phone that can't receive a signal (totally inoperable as a phone) you might run into some difficulties actually making the claim. While it is technically policy, they would certainly prefer to see some usage on the phone you're trying to make a claim on. Depends on who you talk to, really.
Figured I would share. Toodles.

why dont you sim unlock your phone and see if you cant get signal, get your replacement device, which would be covered as a defect, and then add insurance to that one. I prefer sprints insurance, they will even let you claim a phone you got used from ebay/cl or whatever. Also, you might want to look into a third party insurance provider, as asurion is who covers it through every carrier anyway. They will always just tell you to call them, wont make anything easier.
Does anyone have a better tear down link than this?: tjworld.net/blog/htc-desire-z-tear-down
This assumes that the 1/2 that the screen is attached to is separated from the other 1/2 of the phone. I ordered a new digitizer and am just waiting for it to arrive. I was quoted $50 labor from a local shop here in NYC. I ordered the part for $36.
good luck with this man
it really sucks to have almost no good guides on how to take apart a phone

it was terrible

any ideas on how to convince tmobile to send me a replacement first

So my galaxy s has some earpiece issues with the voume as almost inaudible and I got a replacement. Problem is, Tmobile is having me send the phone in first before they send the replacement becuase I am prepaid. Anyone has ideas on how to get tmobile to send the replacement first? I d not want a faulty replacement that is even crappier and have to pay double shipping charges.
1) More then likely nope, you're stuck
2) Cry/beg/*****/moan to the CSR and see if they take pity
3) Try the Electronic Executive Carpet Bomb. Basically you email every email of everyone you can get a hold of in the executive customer service and write a very nice and sincere letter. You just might get a response to your liking. This worked for me and I was able to get a Vibrant to replace my Behold II. Go read The Consumerist to find out more about the EECB.
Probaly not. I dont think the ear piece problem is normal any ways so you shouldn't have to worry about it.

Sign up for a regular account, switch your imei to that one, then do the replacement. With a prepaid, they have no guarantees, and it would be bad business for them to send you one first.
The whole appeal behind prepaid is that there is no credit check or deposit.
Have a credit card have them cross ship one

lol you think they're going to let you run off with a free phone? FAIL
Your pre pay. They won't give in. atleast on a contact they can issue credit reports if you run off with the phone. Your only bet is to borrow a friends old hand me down. Mail in your vibrant and wait. Be happy there atleast offering you a warranty exchange on flexpay. Usually you buy the phone full price and any warranty issues are through the manufacturer.

do you not understand?
I am not going to run off with a free phone since they can still charge my account for the new phone. And again, why would I run off with a broken phone that can barely make phone calls anyways? Think before post next time @ Telanis. The person who fails is you who thinks tmobile cannot just charge my account again. FAIL.

the ONLY way companies will cross ship things is if they have your credit card on file. Sure they can charge your account for a device but what happens when you don't pay?
I've had many electronics cross shipped, it normally requires talking to a manager and ALWAYS requires a credit card on file. If you are not willing to do this, then you have to deal with their ship first policy.

Say that from the perspective of a multi million dollar company.
They don't want some random kid running off with their phone.
What does a drunk guy say when he gets pulled over in the highway? "I wasn't drinking I swear!"
thieves make promises they can't keep and that's why companies don't just give a new phone before getting old one.
Think before YOU post next time.

my mystic ball tells me that he claimed insurance on it for a reason....
i would ask for the imei # & then call htc to see if it has any warranty still on it. if it does you could buy it & hope that what ever is wrong with it will be covered under the warranty but you might be buying a very expensive paper weight. I bought mine on ebay & made sure it was still under warranty before buying it & then shipped it out to htc for repair. they replaced my phone & shipped it back 2 me 4 free. i only had to pay for the shipping there.
His description says he only did it to get another phone and that its gauranteed working. But I'm wondering if T-Mobile would care about that and block your phone?
my only concern would be it having a bad esn which shouldnt be likely since he said he did the swap himself. normally that happens when you try 2 sell a stolen phone. i would call t-mobile with the esn# to see if its bad or not.
anytime you do an exchange through t-mobile you have 2 mail back the phone thats not working or you will get a huge restocking fee = to the phones price unless it was an upgrade which i think you then can keep your old phone.
I would check the completed auctions on ebay, its on the left hand side of the page. price what the htc hd2 has sold for & then if you can get it for cheaper then the average price i would go ahead & buy it. if you cant get it working on t-mobiles network then you can always resell it on ebay & since you did your homework on how much you can expect 2 sell it 4 you wont be out any/a lot of money. i wouldnt think that it would be an issue but i also wouldnt want to give you info on something im not 100% on, best bet would be to call.
I didn't know ESN's applied to phones that use sim cards.
So if the ESN is bad then it might not work and it would just be a paper weight?
Would applying a new OS such as android fix this at all and is the ESN changeable?
Thanks for the info guys, esp htccraze
As I was writing that I was wondering it myself. Lol. I looked online at a few places and your right, t-mobile is not affected by bad esn #'s. I was with verizon till just last year so thats where I was gathering my info from, so I'm really sorry about that.
It seems as though everything should be fine then. Like I said, if you can get a good deal on it & think you'd be able to resell it around the price you paid then there wouldnt be as much risk because you'll be able to get your money back if for whatever reason you no longer like/want the phone. I don't like 2 tell ppl what they should do with they're hard earned money but as a pt seller on eBay myself I feel that papal/ebay buyer protection would have you covered if something was listed wrong or if it dont live up to the description he put in his listing.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
cakinlife there are 2 options you can do. 1) As htccraze said yes you might want to call htc if it is still cover under warranty. 2) The HTC HD2 could be use under another network if the phone is unlcoked.
I would be suprised if there was no sting in the tail here
Insurance is not used just to get a new phone (most insurance phones are refurbs anyway) and the only reason it would be replaced without being sent in for repair/exchange would be if its reported lost/stolen, then the owner got it back (or it was not lost anyway)
Dodgy to say the least
If the IMEI is blacklisted, you need to provide proof of ownersip to unlock it (if you are not the original owner) in the UK that is
IMEI for the phone
IMSI for the SIM
Thanks everyone for the tips, I ended up losing the auction lol (price got too high) but now I know =D
Really appreciate all the help

HD2 Motherboard

Hello guys , my phone is getting freezed after some time of using (45 min) , the Tech's said that this is overheating of the motherboard
So any idea from where can i get new one?
Thanks in advance...
Sent from my HD2
You can find them usually on Ebay and Amazon. I would use what ever search provider (Google, Bing, Yahoo etc..) to do a search for "HTC HD2 motherboard". Pick out a site that has good site reviews if possible as well as good prices. A quick search yeilded dozens of sites that sold HD2 motherboards.
can somebody help me for my HD2?
two days befor it fall and after that my HD2 working with very low speed.
for example, it will take 10 minutes for boot from power on until sense completly load.

Are you saying you dropped the phone and now since its been dropped you have very slow load times?
Is you phone rooted with a custom sense rom?
Do you still have a warranty on the phone?
no the rom version is official and my phone warranty expired
So you noticed it after you dropped it?
Have you tried to turn off your phone and turn it back on? I know that seems kind of stupid but it does fix some small problems from time to time.
Sorry to say but there wouldn't be much you could do for it that i know of. The very best advice i could give you would be to open your own thread about your problem and put this infomation in there. This thread is about motherboards so you wont get as much help as of you opened your own. This way a lot more people will see this and with the more people that see's it maybe someone comes across it and has had that problem before and can offer a solution if one.
Thanks for your advice.
i will open a new topic.

I'm not so sure. I can't find any myself, but it maybe a firewall problem or something. What I find is typically they are "Motherboard Flex Cable Ribbon". Can't find "motherboard" only. I've contacted some sites, but they say no motherboard/main board at all.
If you have come up with a "motherboard" only (at a reasonable price), please provide link. That would be very helpful as I'm after one as well.
You can find a HD2 from Amazon or Ebay that has a cracked screen or something along those lines thats still working and get the motherboard off that phone. when i did a search earlier i seen two sites but i'm unable to find them now. one site you had to be signed in so you might need an account but i'll try and find the other and report back.
Guys please provide me a link if you find a motherboard , i found one on
Gadgetsaving & Ebay
but i am afraid that when i get them i get another problem with them so please any advice ?
Thanks in advance...
$120 seems pretty high. As i said above, you can find a used model off ebay thats still working for the same price. Then you would have more parts you can use off that phone.
You really need to know what your doing during the install process though so if you dont, send it out to someone that does. I seen a phone with a cracked screen but that was
100% working order sell on ebay for $55 just yesterday. Plus if you have problems with the motherboard/phone you do buy off ebay you can always ask to return it. If they
wont accept a return you can then file a claim through ebay stating the phone/motherboard wasn't as described to have ebay force the seller to refund you the money once
you return it. In some cases you can even get a return shipping label emailed to you so you wont be charged the shipping back to the seller.

unfortunately for you and the person who the phone was stolen from. the blacklist is on the carrier end. and as far as i know you can't hide or alter the IMEI serial on your phone. so unless you want an oversized ipod touch, i suggest you return it and hopefully can get a refund from the seller on ebay.

Legally, nope.
How cheap? ~200? Even at that price is not worth it if is blacklisted. Anyways the Nexus 4 is very cheap as it is! (comparing it to similar phones).
If you still want to buy another from ebay, I would recommend to get the 8GB version, since that one is only sold directly from Google, is impossible that it can get blacklisted.
ok thanks guys i will open a dispute against buyer. thank you

If you report your phone stolen to your ISP, they will add the device's unique IMEI to a database that blocks it from accessing the network, effectively making it useless on the carrier. Depending on how the blacklist database works, the device may still work with other carriers, but it's also possible for this blacklist to be shared among carriers. So as long as you buy your device from the Play Store or directly from your carrier, it will be fine. Used phones should always be tested with a SIM before buying it, and keep your IMEI safe. Even if you buy a used phone, it's possible for the seller to report it stolen after they get your money.
If the buyer doesn't accept it or its too late, just sell it out for parts. You can sell the screen, back cover, battery, camera, usb port, and headphone port, for at least $200. Just don't sell the motherboard as that's the part that has the blacklisting

Well, seeming as the Nexus 4 is only $199, £159, that price is amazingly cheap, I'd say you should get your money back and order one from the play store..
