Third party MHL adapter from Monoprice - Galaxy S II General

Hellooooo everyone!
This was posted in the Evo 3D forums already, but the Evo ain't the SGS2...
http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=108&cp_id=10833&cs_id=1083314&p_id=8675&seq=1&format=2
In comes the Monoprice version of the MHL adapter! It's only 15.92 and very little shipping, is sleek enough and you can get a long HDMI cable for cheap! I already ordered one for testing (It's back ordered for now) but if you set an alert, the minute it's in stock you'll know.
Also, if someone is willing, bulk pricing drops price a little.
Will post feedback once I get the device.

Well ...a good price and I have brought from them b4...
I guess I don't need it....Allshare work for me as I have a Samsung LED 3D TV.....
And I just got a good deal on a Samsung ML1865W printer ($45 shipped from Newegg) so I can print wireless from my Samsung devices.

This one on Amazon is cheaper (14.99) and works for me too.

Yeah, but not everyone can order from amazon.com... Gotta love their "Not in my country, not a potential customer" mentality... Thanks for the link though!

Just a warning. A bunch of people on the G2X forum bought HDMI cables from Monoprice and had their phones fried.

The issue with the G2X had more to do with the phone than the cable. If you read about the issue to the end, most of the people complaining about the issue said their cables were purchased from various independent vendors on Amazon.

You seem to have a lot of Samsung products. GS2, Tab 10.1, the original tab and a TV. Not to forget the printer!!
Well, they ought to give you big discount for your next purchase

Just wanted to point out that if you use a case, and depending on the cutout of that case for the microUSB port, you may have a hard time plugging in most of these aftermarket microUSB cables. The ends on them are pretty fat. I ordered microUSB cables from Monoprice and am going to have to shave some of the black plastic off near the end connector so it'll fit all the way into my TPU case.

An hdmi cable can't do that. There is only one power pin for 50mA. That's way less than a charger.

In Car Charger

Does anyone know a website where i can purchase a good quality in car charger for my TyTN II.
Thanks
Just bought mine cheaply from ebay. States it's an original HTC and looks like one. Works well. I'd buy from ebay again. Search for 'OEM car charger htc tytn'
Bought mine on Amazon (germany). There's a lot of confusion though. Many resellers sell "original OR OFFICIAL PARTNERS" chargers.
Of course you only get cheap "official" partners stuff. It happened to me once, paid few euros, never worked, no charging at any time.
Then I spotted a reseller really pretending to sell only original, and it was the case. Original HTC cost more (here in EU I think more than 10 eruos is standard) that cheap things, and have 2A power (even though I still don't understand why but that's written on it).
Official one look like that:

At least it worked w/o any problem.

To my knowledge, the only example of this for the Tilt has been the Brodit active cradle - which happens to be one of the more reputable brands of chargers you can buy. That vendor owned up to the problem and replaced everyone's chargers and (I believe) also paid for repairs of the damages to any Tilts they killed.
The noname chargers won't brick the Tilt, they just will fail to charge it.
Any Mini usb car charger works. I just bought a motorola charger and it works.

It's not because this Motorola works that all will work! I had a totally unbranded one, it was absolutely not working.
What I did was get a Car USB to AC converter.. looks like the a$$ end of a car charger, except your USB cable plugs into it.. it's handy for everything... your Kaiser, Laptop.. etc...

Mirror Mode

I bought the Xoom WiFi on the day it was released. I haven't had any issues with it until now. I bought a cheap HDMI cable off eBay to play on my TV but it just showed no signal. I read its probably because its a cheap cable. So I went to best buy and bought the Motorola HDMI cable. It doing the same thing. I have 3 HD TV's and I tried it in all of them. I tired turning off it and back on. Has anyone else run into this problem. I been trying to contact Motorola but they always tell me to call back because their specialist are busy.

Might still be the TV. I didn't have time to mail order before a trip, so I bought the Best Buy rocketfish cable. Tried it with the hotel TV, and it claimed "no signal." When I got home tonight, I tried it here, and it worked just fine.
Annoyed me, since I took the time to convert movies to watch at the hotel.

I got this from Amazon, and it works as well. It's about the same price as eBay, but this one is only 5 ft.

Galaxy Tab 1 dock

The Galaxy Tab 1 (7" Tab) dock works like a charm with the new 10.1v tab. You have to some "customize" it a bit with a saw but in the end you get a great dock. After the right customization (pic 2) the fit is nearly as perfect.
The dock is recognized by the tab and it launches the clock app. Charger and audio output works flawlessly.

(Tab with dock)
(Customized 7" tab dock)
EDIT2: I tested the 1080p HDMI output. The port is working, but somehow the software has a big problem with a hdmi connection. I got some spontaneous reboots, so... no it isn't working "out of the box" . Will do some more experiments later
Sounds good. Please update once you have tested. How extensive were the modifications? Can you post pics
Thanks

Updated the first post with some pics and the HDMI test results. The modification is not that extensive. You only have to cut out the sides of the backplate of the original tab 7" dock and the sides at the left and right.
With a picture of the original is should be easy to infer how the modifications have to be done. If not, just ask and I will add a little drawing.
thanks for the pics and info. would appreciate hearing about either your success or failure to get a hdmi signal out.
Going to try to get one to test this weekend. Who knows maybe I can help with the HDMI problem.
Just to confirm this is also recharging your 10.1v

Yes, it is charging the 10.1v The charging adapter of the 7" Tab has exactly the same specs so it is also perfectly save.
Must confess, did little experimentation with the HDMI output. Will do some more tests when I have some time.
Btw, Samsung is known for the fact that they ship their devices with tons of software. It's strange that on the 10.1v there are nearly any special Samsung add ons. Maybe we have to wait for the 10.1 to get more software support, also for HDMI.
Maybe its in my head, but I feel like the 10.1v adapter charges my tablet twice as quick as with the 7 version (with dock)
Was wondering if the same can be done with the official 7 inch keyboard dock. They are bound to come down a lot in price and would be a lot cheaper than an official 10.1 version.

Not sure about that particular cable but can say if it has Ethernet it is a 1.4a rated cable. One of the newest standards out. I used a cheap cable on my wife's Xoom and had non problem. Many places to get cheap cables.
Mono price.com. , merit line.com shoot even amazon and eBay. Maybe there was a different issue there.
I see that it is a crap cable I plugged it in again and it worked but it was a little off like with the picture size like I only see 2 squares of the right top side app draw button
Thanks I didn't know this was the new style I will exchange it tomorrow b4 I leave for Detroit test at my brothers house
Edit- also cable needs to be in one position or no pic its 100% a dud can't wait to play n64 or modern combat 3 on big screen!

Sign this petition to bring back MINI USB to devices and stop MICRO USB forever!!!

http://www.thepetitionsite.com/954/...usb-to-devices-get-rid-of-micro-usb-for-good/
This is the gist of the petition:
Changing all devices to use Micro USB in replacement for the wonderful MINI USB (which almost never broke) was an obvious ploy by companies to get you to re-purchase charger parts for your devices faster than ever before. Before Micro USB was released, users would have to buy maybe 1 (if that) replacement Micro USB cable per year. Since implementing MINI USB, I have replaced these cables AT LEAST 20 TO 30 TIMES.
For some of us not-so-techies out there, do you remember when your phone had a slightly larger USB connection and hardly ever failed. But then one day you got a new device and came with a different sized (smaller) cable? The end of the USB cable is noticebaly more frail and falls apart very easily. The older cables lasted MUCH longer!
The reason they did this was to make us consumers buy more and more cables to replace our "worn out USB connectors". It's utter nonsense. It's a nuisance always replacing them and it ends up costing a lot of money!
It's time for us consumers to unite and get back our old MINI USB technology to our devices! We won't stand for it anymore. What they did SHOULD BE ILLEGAL!!!! Stand with me and let's fight it!

It's too late now. Do you know how many millions of devices already use micro USB?

MicroUSB port came to playground as effort of few years to make a standard in mobile industry. Mainly due to user have to buy new charger for the device instead of previously used.
And the other way, I've seen mini USB ports very fragile and tend to worn out the so easily. Instead of buying new cable you have to repair your device then. That's not my favorite part.

FTFY
What's wrong with MicroUSB? I have many MicroUSB devices, and many corresponding leads (for charging and the like), and have never ever had one (male or female connector) break.
The MicroUSB is smaller, and I think visually more pleasant. This allows it to be used on ever thinner smartphones and tablets, without worrying about trying to find space for the port. Also, it does not mar the aesthetics of a device, due to it's small and (fairly) flat form factor.
Go MicroUSB!
