Hey guys.
My GF has this Xperia X8 and was wondering if theres a way to make it (alot?) faster and the battery drain better. Her phone has a crazy battery drain of like 90% in 10 hours without really doing anything. Browsing the web with hsdpa drains about 50% in 1 hour and the phone itself seems crazily laggy and bugged.
Is there a everyday-use rom or are they more or less all experimental?
Thanks in advance guys, appreciated.
Every ROM here is stable enough for daily use but if you want my suggestion, use GingerDX. It's the best ROM I've tried so far and it's very very fast!
I didnt know that custom roms would ever improve battery life?
If you wan't a stable, fast and no-bugs rom, perfect for daily use, MiniCM6 is what you need. I have problems with sending/reciving MMS with ALL 2.3 Roms, but i can MMS without problems with ALL 2.2 roms.
So, for daily use the best rom is MiniCm6, without any doubts.
Probably some other users say "GingerDX" or "Froyobread", but these ones are slower (they are fast, yes) than MiniCM6, and they aren't as stable as MiniCm6.
But there is ONE big problem with MiniCM6. The video recording has a problem, the audio is unsinc. from the image. But if you don't use that theres no problem. If you use... well... i don't know but maybe FroyoBread has that bug fixed.
I simply don't recomend you 2.3 Roms because they are slower, and more laggy and unstable than 2.2 Roms.
Yes, this is my opinion, what others think is what others think and yes, probably different, probably not...
But watchout, don't full out your phone with a lot of apps, install ONLY the apps you use.
Sorry for my bad English
I Agree that 2.3 ROMS are not so good at everyday use,i use GingerDX and it have not so many problems whit lags and bugs, but the battery drains veeeeery fast.I think its the same for all 2.3.
So,i'll recommend you FroyoBread, thats the ROM i used before GingerDX till version v15 (or v14,don't remember )and its very stable and fast, and the battery life is very good.I don't tested miniCM6 either!
I suggest u to used floyo 0.30 by racht... stable,fast n no bug.... =)
I recommend GingerDX releases for stable daily use

I was on minicm6 it would not let me play pro evolution soccor 2011
GingerDx would
i totally disagree with your comment
GingerDX v011 is by far superior to minicm6
yes mms wont work. unless you sit there for a few minuets putting in the setting's then it DOES work
like everything else on gingerdx it works and it works FAST
Please dont take my comment as an insult but really you got to check out the newer versions of gingerdx it is SUPERIER to 100% or the rom's i have tried

Try MiniCM7, it has less customization options than GingerDX, but the battery drain is MUCH more lower
I would recommend MiniCM7 2.0.7 aswell!
If you use Undervolt and change some very basic configurations, you can have a lot of battery time.
Right now I have 58% battery remaining and made a lot of calls and some gaming, and it has been running for 37 hours

I mean I've had many frikin phones in the pass last one before this was a sensation ...
I'm saying all this cause for the first time I find a stock rom really fast/smooth. So is it really worth it a custom rom?
And I read here and there about a browser lag? What lag? This is one or the smoothest browser I tried on a phone
Let me know what rom u running and if u really feel the difference ..remember ..to review a rom u need a couple of days ..heavy use ..right after u load a rom it would be fast and smooth that's usually the case.

im using stock KE2
one of the only reasons ive seen people use custom roms is because of the battery life .Im fine on my KE2 i can go for 2+days without a charge
I think what they mean by browser lag is that some custom ROMs have buggy browsers ..... im not sure of this
Mine is KE7 I have no problem with battery either ...

ill probably change roms a year from now so i can try the AOSP feel of CM7 or CM8 if android 4 is around the corner
basically i want to try "android" for what it is
With the brute force of dualcore and 1Gb ram, i doubt a customized ROM can make a significant difference like what it did on the SGS1. Im using KF1 ( stock with my phone ) and I have no battery or speed issues, I still have all the samsung bloat installed just for stress testing. Will be removing it maybe tomorrow.
Nah, there is no real speed difference that I can notice and I have tried every rom here exept MIUI. A number of guys are running the phone underclocked by 33% and don't notice any difference. Outside of gaming it would seem we have power to spare for the moment. I cant comment on the stock browser as I used it just long enough to figure out the text reflow blows chunks and moved over to opera. I never had a problem making it through the day and that is all the battery I require.
Still performance be it speed or improved battery life is only one aspect of custom roms. There is also the various mods, bug fixes, and extended options and functionality, that chefs throw in that make installing a rom a no brainer to me. Roms are in their infancy on this device, I expect them to get a lot more interesting after 2.3.4 drops and they mature.
I cannot see any performance difference with villainrom either. However it seems to me that the battery usage is much better than with stock rom.
With normal usage (except games) the SGS2 performs great - you just don't need to worry about speed.
@qwerty warrior:
there's a fix for the laggy browser in custom roms.
I've been using VillainRom v1.4 for a little now (tried out MIUI before which was nice but wanted something with a little less bugs.) and mainly the only reason I switched from stock was to test if the battery is any better (been getting similar to stock battery life) and to have a deodexed rom for themes. Also, I've been running my SGS II UC at 500mHz and I had experience no lag at all. Haven't played too many intensive games but, when I played Riptide GP it ran smoothly. Overall to me the main advantage to having a custom rom now (until CM or MIUI are out and stable) are for the themes available to a deodexed rom.
Hope this helps.

Hi,
I'd like to know the reason why is the better for and advices.
I use the MiniCM7 i like this rom cus has a lot upgrades my Xperia X8 works fine, but i feel its no the better rom for this mobile, maybe the CPU or RAM i dont know, but.. i think is better than 2.1 Original ROM from SE i used the Froyo (MiniCM6) and was great but i decides to try the MiniCM7 and sweeter, but slow in mobile... so
What ROM you use? Why do u use it? Is it the better? What is the better for SE Xperia X8?
Thanks! Guys!
I use Froyobread. Based on CM6(Froyo)
Reason?
Main Reason - Almost bugless ROM, very good for daily use.
Other:
CRT Animation/Glow - ppl will think I'm using Android 2.3 when they saw it
T-Mobile Theme Engine - CM7 theme for CM6 based ROM
easy to say, I use FB because of doixanh's special features there, (back button ends call, HTC Never-miss-a-call, etc). I know GingerDX got those as well, but I like CM6 more. Its smoother, faster, and really almost bugless, and good memory management.
I have tried stock 1.6 (before the big update), Eclair (unrooted and rooted)and now GingerDX V.6. A fact is that the X8 are not a terribly fast smartphone. It is fast enough for many things like divx-movies and not too complicated games. It´s like a cheap computer! You can do standard things but nothing too complicated and it doesnt do anything with an impressive speed.
I cant say that i notice any difference in speed between stock 2.1 and GingerDX. When the phone has been idle for a while it´s a little tired in a few seconds (Sometimes, not allways). But it was as tired when stock eclair was on it to.
I have 50 apps (and games) installed in my phone. Maybe there´s la difference if you have a lot more things installed.
Currently Im using FroyoBread v23
Why?
In GingerDX v010, after one night, my battery drains 16-20%
In FroyoBread, 6-8%
I did the tests with clean installations, original applications (Gmail, talk, maps, etc) removed and SD erased.
I have tested all top roms (fb,minicm,floyo,fxp.....) I am now using Kuyadroid v3 because its fast and great on battery, 1-2% standby overnight and 3-4 days with moderate use. I like DX roms and will prob switch to GingerDX later in development.
Sent from my X8 using XDA App
using gingerdx, battery drain is too much
Well I will go with Gingercruzt 7.4.
Why?
Coz of its faster than GDX and a combined mixed of SE application and updated feature not to mention the interface is so cool.

I'm not really sure, but as I remembered, my FB drains 0% - 1% from 0000hrs - 0900hrs. will try this night, and update the result.
Thanks for urs answers. I got i need question.
About the "core" in ours X8, What do u think? Eclair, Froyo or Gingerbread? Why?
Is Cyanogenmod 7.1 stable and smooth?
I am now using Floyo 1.0b, however I have to bear the sluggishness and slowness
Every time I recieve a new call, I have to wait half a minute before I can answer..
Will Cyanogenmod 7.1 be much better? Or is there any smooth roms to recommend?
Relly tired of flashing my x8, I want to make sure before this again...
Thanks!

Try GingerDX, fast, smooth, bugless, and packed with lot of features!
Personally I've found cyanogenmod 7.1 has a few very VERY irritating bugs AND is incomplete.
Problems myself and others have had:
In call volume is too low, barely able to hear people in call.
Network issues - after 5-15 minutes of use (e.g. using market place, browsing the web, etc...) the connection whether it's 3G or WiFi simply refuses to load any web content.
Some features incomplete (camera functionality amongst others)
Essentially this rom/kernel combination being labelled as stable must be a mistake, as it is not stable. Generally speaking it isn't useful for day to day use. It is however very speedy.
Noo, it is very slow! All 3D games lag + scrolling is KINDA slow.
FXP rom 028 have normal in call volume. FXP030 and CM71 have bug there.
I`m using 028 rom and CM71 kernel - not have wifi troubles, games works nice. Not using camera and FM radio, so it is not trouble for me that they are not working yet.
But it is stable and fast, not have any FCs, lags or reboots.
Any one has the fxp 28 kernel? please share us.

Almost all non GB-Sense ROMs are 100% functional and good for daily use. GB Sense ROMs are also supposedly good for daily use but I personally find them quite glitchy and slow (try them anyway, you may be able to tolerate this). I use Typhoon CM7 as it's fast, efficient, and regularly updated with the latest features.
TyphooN CyanogenMod 7 Nightly v3.7.3[2.3.7][A2SD][tytung r12.4v3]
I have been using these for my daily since around 2.4.something and love it, quick updates, fast as anything performance with pretty decent battery. I have everything turned on and am on one WiFi connection or another pretty much all day. Use it moderately for browsing, texting, phone, and gps and it lasts pretty much all day for me. Give it a shot, I bet you will be happy.
Oh yeah, I am sure you would be able to tell from the thread but there is no Sense or anything, pretty standard CM7 interface with ADWLauncher
I've tried many different ROMs over the last few weeks and finally arrived with TyphooN as well.
What I found more important is that from my experience, tytung's 12.3 (and newer) kernels are the only ones that have no or close to no audio quality issues, so I'd definitely opt for a ROM with tytung's kernel.
Check my signature. Has everything you asked for on this thread
I´m also on TyphooN CyanogenMod 7 for a long time now.
Very stable and fast, good battery live time
I am using Hd2 Ndt ginger ginger rom , its very fast and stable with go launcher
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1013852
After first boot
All task killed free ram 240 - 260 mb
And quadrant benchmark score 1265
Antutu benchmark score 2561
And very good battery life
I can play 3d games .
I like it may you try

Hyperdroid is tha bomb.
Thanks for answers
Will see what i land on finally.. I can see i have a few more to test =))
I have used TyphooN_CM7 and Desire HD Ace, these two roms on my hd2.
one is original android and one is with sense...
I think you can try these two roms,
Any flavor of Hyperdroid is tight. My best recommendation is try a few different roms out and seeing if you like one. If using it intensively is a big issue for you I would suggest that you don't install system heavy apps, i.e. Live wallpapers, crazy widgets that use system resources like weather or GPS. Keeping GPS and WIFI off until you need to access those services and changing the display brightness down a tad. There are plenty of threads on these issues and keep in mind that Android itself is a huge battery abuser, but it's so worth it. I use the above mentioned apps and still get a full day out of my phone as long as I don't spend hours at a time accessing them. Keeping a charger on hand at work also helps as well.
I´m using AmericanAndroid nand since first release and it´s very fast, good battery life 2mA in standby.
Hey guys,
Im looking for a ROM for my HTC HD2.
(Android of course)
It should run pretty stable, have as few glitches as possible, preferably not drain my battery but still run powerful.
I know there are overclocked ones and the battery saving ones.
Apart from that it should definately look nice.
I like the UI of this one but oddly enough this won´t work on my HD2, no idea why.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1316632
So what do you recommend I should get?
Thank you!
P.s Should be 2.3.7 or above
I suggest hyperdroid it run smoothly and battery drain low. It runs now android 2.3.7
Sent from my HD2 using XDA App
gingerbread roms like hyperdroid, nexushd2 and typhoon is what I would recommend. They are fast and smooth, but to decide which one, you will have to try them all It takes time to decide.. I have been flashing since 2009 ^^

Really? You've limited yourself to CM7 ROMs (e.g. Typhoon, Hyperdroid), MIUI ROMs (e.g. NDT) and Android 4.0 ICS. I think you mean it must be Gingerbread, not 2.3.7. Also, have you tried the search button or tried out ROMs? Hundreds of threads exactly the same as this exist and the only way to find a ROM you like is to try it out for yourself. If you wanted to see which ROM is most popular, just look at the number of views the thread has.
My personal recommendation? Typhoon CM7, runs perfectly and is everything you're looking for
i ran RafDroid HD for the longest time and it's my fall back if the other ROMS i'm running give me trouble, it's fast and silky smooth and works great for me.

Try any of the MIUI stable builds, they are rock solid and light on the battery.
like those by NDT, JW or the one called PATs MIUI sense like.
here's a link for a start
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1010498
Hmm in my experience MIUI roms are more battery draining usually than straight cm7 based ones.
MIUI is nice for sure but a matter of taste.
most ROMs are stable and don't drain battery. Miui, CM7, or Froyo Sense ROMs. I had killer battery life on Miui ROMs.
don't know much about 2.3 Sense, 4.0 sucks now
