[Q] Can Xperia Games be played on any phone ??? - Xperia Play General

Hello!
My question is :
Can the games specifically launched for Xperia Play be played on any other phone like Arc, Ray, or Neo?
For example, Crash Bandicoot or Fifa, can they be played on Neo?
Thanks.

To my knowledge yes because most of the games have only one version and in that they have just added play support.. Even if you close the gamepad you can use touch controls to play the games so it should work

If by any chance any freind of yours has got Arc or Ray or Neo. Would you please ask him to confirm this by just checking the Android Market if the titles are available?
Thanks.

Yes and no.
There's "Xperia PLAY Optimized" games that are usually just existing games modified to have real controls... those can be played on most any phone.
But the games launched specifically for Xperia PLAY like Terra Incognito, Hockey Nations and Zeus Arena are games no other Android phone supports except the Xperia PLAY.

[Q]How to play non-optimized Xperia Play games on Play?

Is it possible to play the non optimized games on the Xperia Play with just the normal touch commands? For example, I want to play Eternal Legacy, but it has not been optimized for the Xperia Play, is it possible to play it by just touch screen? Would it work on my phone?
Zenonia 2 wasn't optimised for Xperia Play but the buttons do work:
So let us be optimistic
To actually answer your question, yes, any android touch screen games will run on the play just fine.
Optimised for Xperia Play just means that the gamepad can be used to play the game.
Ok so I went to the gameloft site to select the game then it asks for my phone type, when I put in the Play and select next it says sorry this game is not currently supported on your phone, and then it directs me to the games that are supported. So what do I do? I don't want to buy the game and then it has issues working on my phone. Any suggestions?

at what point is it asking this? You are sure the game is a game for android right?
http://www.gameloft.com/android-games/top/
is there an option to choose sony ericsson xperia arc/neo/pro/mini instead? Those phones are almost identical (from a game software point of view) so you shouldn't have an issue with the version of the software if it is written with the NDK. (don't really worry too much about this, just know that some games have data files optimized for different builds of phones, samsung hummingbird phones vs qualcom snapdragon based phones are a good examples)
if that doesn't work, here's a copy/paste of all the phones with the same chipset you might want to try
Acer Iconia Smart, HTC Desire HD, HTC Desire S, HTC Incredible S, HTC Inspire, Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc, Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo, Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro, Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini/Mini Pro (2011), T-Mobile myTouch 4G, Sharp GALAPAGOS 003SH/005SH, Sharp DM009SH
just set your device as a desire hd on the gmeloft site, its the nearest device (spec wise) to ours
Well I tired Gangstar West Coast Hustle and it did not work, half of the screen is black when you try yo play it.
Most of them works without problem some of the game are still different depending on the source/device they was meant for but at least 95% of them i tried works without any problem. if not with the controller with the screen.
So yes go ahead install what you want and enjoy The Play

who wants a decent footy game ?

hi,surely the experia play can handle a decent footy game ??fifa 10 is rubbish & so is real football 2011,are there no plans for fifa 11 which is decent on my ipad & on the iphone 4,ive got fpse but the footy games wont work, the old fifas all crash & so does iss pro evo 2 which was excellent so come on lets get a decent football game who agrees ??
If PES for android used the XPLAY's controls that would fit the bill.
Surely only a matter of time. Email to Konami maybe?
Real shame ISS PRO EVO 2 on FPSE doesn't work right, that was and still is, an outstanding game.
So many hours wasted.
But yeah...what's up with FIFA 10...so, so sooooooooo bad!

But the question is irrelevant. Need a good footy game :/

no we know what a fag is ^^^^^^^ anyone? lol
If Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 was ported "as-is" from the PSP then I wouldn't complain. Instead, I've witnessed an absolutely terrible game which reminded me of FIFA 98 in the terrible animations and graphical quality, and another absolutely terrible game called Total Football, which features players who move like marionettes. Surely they can do better in a console which happens to be thrice as powerful as the PSP?

This XPLAY optimized...shouldn't be any other discussion.
It is a fine game, you just can't play it on a touch screen.
My FIFA 10 keeps auto randomising my team on career. So I have just gave up with it. I imaging we have to wait until FIFA 12 now to get "Xperia Play Optimised"
try winning eleven 3, aka: iss pro 98
for me, it is the best on fpse

My guess ill be that it will be in FIFA 11. With Xperia Play support.
Yeah I agree with this man, I can't believe how these horrible soccer games are being made, or "optimized" [like FIFA 10] for a system that is damn near ps2 quality [please remember the Xperia Play is 1 ghz], I think the ps2 was 300 ghz, and the games are so terrible. I was recently at my friend's house playing FIFA 2006 on PS2 and it was so much better than ANY of the football games I have played on the Xperia Play which were supposedly "optimized" for the Play, even shipped with it [eg: FIFA 2010.]
New Football game
I really hope that when they do make a new football game it won't be dependent on those damn analog thing's either, because so far, in every game, I have found them to perform really poorly.
Really? I kinda like the analog sticks.

Sony Ericsson are stupid in this regard.
They could have made it so that psp games were available for digital download. Then you have a fresh list of new games along with the old ps one classics.
People that already paid for digital downloads on the psp got their same games on the SExplay for free ofc.
They would of made so much money. A real opportunity missed for them.
I think that is coming. Apparently the menu button was designed to be the Playstation button. I have faith that it will come.

well I doubt that the Xperia Play is powerful enough.
The psp is 333mhz and the Xperia play has 1000mhz
even though it is more the xperia play has to load a full operating system, android. Also 3X the processing power does not seem enough for emulation.
I forgot to mention that the PSP has a pretty good graphics processor.
Unless Sony can make the game run without emulation we will get laggy gaming.
Look at the Nintendo DS emulator the DS has 67MHZ processor yet the NDS emulator lags so much even on tegra2 phones. So imagine emulating 300mhz
But I would think if sony was making it they know everything to code it right? I just hope the ps suite or what ever its called imports psp titles like monster hunter

For starters 1Ghz is 1024mhz, the play is easly capible of emulating psp games and nds games for that matter, the developers of tiger nds has already said there current emulator is just a tech demo and would be unplayable on any device no matter how powerfull it is

I'm not talking about emulation. I'm talking about porting the games to the play. Like they did with the COW collection on the PS3. They can port all the great games. They are porting the PSP GOW games to the PS3 as we speak.
If I remember correctly most PSP games run at 222mhz?? Because a hacked PSP can be ran at 333mhz which dramatically improved the loading times. This might only be the case for early games but I do remember DAX going on about it a few years back.

The problem is SE and Sony are different entities.
SE make mobile phones, Sony make games and consoles (amongst other things).
I can't see any porting of psp game to the Xplay in a million years, the platforms are just too different.
It's a great idea though. SE would sell a million more XPlays if they tied it into PSP games.

Sony is structured in divisions. It is very well-known fact that, although they all form part of the same company, communication between them is horrid. It would be oh so much better if they could just cooperate, but for some reason, Sony's corporate culture discourages that.

The question was "could xp ever" play them though. And since Xperia PLAY is, in fact, stronger than many of the phones that run the Gangstar games smoothly, the answer to OP's question is still yes.
it can play ps2 or ps3 games, yes, via an RDP client, such as splashtop, or even OnLive if it's gets official support.
Through emulation -> No
Through Port -> Yes
Through RDP -> Yes
Simple as
Link to onlive VIEWER, not player.

Since Call of Duty runs on the Quake III Arena engine, and with Zues Arena you can play it on an xPlay, so yes. If you want to, you can port Call of Duty to the xPlay.
If a decent game like gta or cal of got ported i would pay up to 40 coz itd be worth it
if xperia play surrport was made to gameplay could onlive domernate gaming
Sorry for bad spelling

PS Certified for What

There are a lot of games in the Market that works on multiple devices, but so far what titles ive seen w/ is created for X-Play only is Experiment 13 or what, great titles are not ported to this device, games are limited and a lot of them are kids game. Final Fantasy Remake, Devil May Cry and a lot more names that popularized on PS are created by Japanese. Im quite disappointed getting this phone, for no reason i didnt get the play station satisfaction. Itll be much better if sony would own modifications for xplay such as camera mod and game keyboard.

Mmh, Im pretty happy with play, It got vastly more support and was way more succesfull than Nokias Ngage and Ngage 2 software. Xplay perfected the formula and is heading to right direction.
Emulators work and there is few decent games on the market, I will be there buying Xplay 2 without hesistation
Granted, price was too high but there was multiple reasons, one being unique game pad that wasnt even mass producted before (I dont think they directly used PSP GO's model to create Xplay's plastics)
Besides, PS suite is yet to come, things might get interesting
After a year, few games ported ti xperia play, assassins creed and the devil may cry 4 fr. Japan... Oh yeah final fantasy also created on Japan and has english only for iPhone.

I dont think those are PS suite content (just PS store)
PS suite just entered Open Beta, just wait till its open for public (other than for developers)
you should try using PSXPERIA, it could convert your backup images (.bin, .iso, .img) of Playstation games into an APK, and it will be integrated into your Playstation Pocket, take a look at this link to see how it works now:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1530228
Besides using PSXPERIA, we can also play many HD games for ANDROID with the gamepad and even touchpad, it is the difference that we had and the others couldn't have it. you should try games that were published by Gameloft, EA, and Glu. they have many great games with many genre available..
Xperia Play is the best phone that i ever have, i bought it together with 2 of my friends, and one of them already sold it, because he didn't know how to maximize the potential of Xperia Play, you should try to use Stock Based Custom ROM, using PSXPERIA, and play Android HD Games in you XPeria Play
Regards
If you want games which don't treat you as a 13 year old, don't let 13 year olds (actually their parents) buy smartphones. Only now are we starting to see mature stuff (or at least parent-service of some kind) in video games, when some 30 year olds play with them.
XPlay-Swype
I'm lovin the phone
I'm sorry you don't get the joy out of the phone as the rest does.
But I honestly can't get your reason, you even say you are dissapointed for no reason... so
You can't get the playstation feeling? There are more than 300 android games out which work with the dpad, 300 games that your friends have to play via annoying touch controls. Even tho Shadowgun, Backstab, Gangster Rio and so on aren't playstation titles, they are awesome to play and no kid games... Besides.. you can play various Playstation games, FinalFantasy, Gran Turismo, Resident Evil, Metal Gear Solid to name just a few.
Plus All those other emulators SNES/N64/Dosbox/Sega which let you play classic games with the dpad... It's awesome!!! Here a quick round of Street Fighter on SNES, bit of Mario on N64, kill some zombies in resident evil....
You get a full android phone with all the goodies + an Univarsel pocket gaming machine <3
I guess you either love the phone, or do not care for its features in which case you shouldnt have got it in the first place.
Playstation Suite is not something that can be released as such, it is a developer program, enabling the users of Playstation Certified devices to download games from a community of developers, these developers, through the playstation suite SDK can take advantages of Playstation Services, however currently not trophies. These games will then be added to the Playstation Store on your XPlay.

+1 , i'm agree with you , there is no sony's exclusive game .
i'm sure if samsung or htc were experienced enough on games as prefect as sony has , they allways wold make sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo many #1 games , and they would show off on their mobile-play technology !
i can't understand why sony with this huge experience on PS1, PS2 ,PS3 , psp and vita don't want to make its #1 games on xperia play ! or don't want to make a powerful xperia play !
our xperia play is really out of date for #1 games ...
Try Emus like FPSE (Y)
With those Emus you can play all these old but gold games like Tekken 3 or Wipeout 3 or somenthin else
I am one of those people who loves their play
I was under the impression that most people got the play for emulation, since Sony ALWAYS fails when it comes to mobile devices.
The ps3 isn't exactly doing well either.

When I say they fail, I mean the selection of games. The PSP was seriously lacking in selection of good titles. The PSP Go just made things worse.
And now look at the Play. Yes, the device itself is great, just like with the PSP, but really, how many good games has Sony released for it, or how many exclusives have we been given by their partners? Almost nothing. I don't consider gameloft adding a few pieces of code for our controllers a big deal, as their games are half-ass most of the time anyway.
And aside from the controller code, we haven't seen any optimization to make up for our modest hardware, so a lot of games lag. Yes you can fix some of it with overclocking, but that isn't something that should be required. A gaming device should be ready to handle games right out of the box, not require hacking to make them run at a playable fps rate. Had Sony worked harder to bring us optimizations, we wouldn't be having this problem.
And yes, optimized code really does make that much of a difference. Try this as an experiment, I dare you: Get GTA San Andreas for PC, and try running it with the same computer, but switch between two video cards of equal specs, one ATI, and one nvidia. It'll run one hell of a lot better on the nvidia card. Why? Because Rockstar Games optimized the game for NV cards.
The hardware isn't the issue. The issue is that Sony promises it's customers a lot of things that they never deliver. Where's our mobile PS suite? Where are all the exclusive games we were supposed to get? What about the original PlayStation titles that never showed up?
They did the same thing with the PS3. Look how long it took them to get a few decent games that weren't on every console. PS3 owners were led to believe they'd get the best game system on the planet, so they paid double the price of an Xbox, and what did they get? A bluray player that also has a few games they could have played on a console that costs half the price. Well, was half anyway. Not anymore, but how many years did it take?
I heard a few people say the devices will improve now that Ericsson is gone, but frankly I don't think that's the case. It seems highly likely that the Sony half of the company was playing a large part in the problems regarding updates, missing promised features etc. Seems all too obvious given their history with devices that were made solely by them.
It's not about hardware, it's about the user experience.

oh ,thanks god , finally i've find someone that have same opinion with me!
i'm agree with you my friend .
on my opinion , we had bought xperia play (as a gamer ) cause we love sony's exclusive games , sony promised a lot of games ...
i always was with sony , from playstation1,ps2,psp ....till now(ps3) . i'm personally waiting (for one year ) to see a sony's exclusive game . but nothing happened !
as capitan67 said above , we have to root , convert game's image... but what sony have done ?!
after one year , they have forgotten all promises and just lunch TAKKEN1 with some of useless games !
hey guys , does sony kidding us ?! what can we do with TAKKEN 1, why medievil 1 ?! ...
i can remember 2 years age , when i had bought X10 mini pro and what SonyEricsson had done with us on X10 series .
i though thought this time , sony will make all promises true !
excuse me if my English is bad , i don't want to blame sony , i'm still with sony , i just wanna say that we don't need GAMELOFT or other mobile-game-developer. i prefer to play n64 , ps1 , snes games will all long and nice story instead of gameloft... low level's game.
i could buy a galasy s2 , or galaxy note if i want to play mobile-global games , cause that's display screen is much better, also cpu ang GPu ...
i had bought xperia play , cause i'm GAMER , i love SONY'S GAMES , i LOVE SONY'S EXCLUSIVE games . ..
i don't know , what sony will promise to us on xperia play 2 ?!?
But maybe you should enjoy this device
However, xplay is the only phone which has the keyboard game, just like the PS. And that's so cool

I think the real reason why Sony has not been able to release any good games via the PlayStation Pocket App for the Xperia Play, such as FF7 or FF8, is because unlike releasing these games on a console like a PlayStation 3 or a PSP, which has their own custom OSs [operating systems] the Xperia Play runs Android. Releasing FF7 or a big game like that for the Play would be like releasing it for Android. In no time every other Android user would have access to the game. I think a developer like Square Enix would much prefer charging $10-$20 for FF7 on iOS [iPhone,] which supposedly has more customers willing to pay for that content. It's really not Sony's fault, it's actually the game developers. Just look at what Square Enix has done with iOS. They have released multiple Final Fantasy games, created an RPG specifically for the platform [Chaos Rings,] all while pretty much ignoring Android. It's not so much that the developers are ignoring the Xperia Play, they are in fact really ignoring Android.

you should try using PSXPERIA, it could convert your backup images (.bin, .iso, .img) of Playstation games into an APK, and it will be integrated into your Playstation Pocket, take a look at this link to see how it works now:

Besides using PSXPERIA, we can also play many HD games for ANDROID with the gamepad and even touchpad, it is the difference that we had and the others couldn't have it. you should try games that were published by Gameloft, EA, and Glu. they have many great games with many genre available..
Xperia Play is the best phone that i ever have, i bought it together with 2 of my friends, and one of them already sold it, because he didn't know how to maximize the potential of Xperia Play, you should try to use Stock Based Custom ROM, using PSXPERIA, and play Android HD Games in you XPeria Play
