I am a fan of cyanogenmod, as many others, but i hate the stock android camera app. so my request is that someone good with porting/baksmali can port this apk and make it work. i think the camera app is the only disadvantage of stock android/cyanogen.
Wishlist
HTC Gallery
HTC Camera with 720p
HTC Contacts/Phone?
(more?)
Any one else wanting them? let me and devs know by commenting!
Progress:
One developer will work at porting FroYo HTC camera and 720p. (ralle.gade)

we just need a dev.
1+ on htc gallery
I am desperate for the HTC camera / 720p camcorder for a ROM without sense
+1!!
count me in hate the stock camera/video app not many settings to play whit
the issue that will probably come to light is that it will no doubt need the htc sense framework, not sure if just the frame work can be ported or not
the contact app would also be sweet ^_^
The contact app is lovely on the stock HTC Desire sense 2.1
What I really miss about the camera is the tap to focus/hold to take photo part. I took some photos at a concert the other night on the stock android camera and it just could NOT hold focus.
may the developers be with us.
The contacts app on Sense is horrible. I find it really slow and unpleasent to use. I'm fairly sure that it plays a large role in Facebook sync not working.
I would love the Sense calendar though.
Also, the Sense browser (well, just the text selection bit) and the Sense USB connection type screen would be amazing!
Or if the official Facebook and Twitter would integrate into a Sense rom like they do in Opendesire / any other Android build, it'd be fantastic.
The upcoming open desire rom may have 720p. Not sure if this means the htc camera or not, but it's a start
Paul O'Briain has posted it over to his Nexus roms, so that could be worth a look at.

Same! HTC Camera and Contacts would be nice in CyanogenMod 6!
The text selection would be amazing. The default Froyo text selection is so poor in comparison. I'd happily pay for good text selection.
Come on ppl! I'm not as good as you. You guys can handle it!
Rip those HTC Apk's.
XDA for Rip!
I would like to add HTC Footprints to the list. Or have anyone found a substitute?

There's a thread in the Dev forum from a chap attempting to port the Nexus/Modaco Camera across to OpenDesire.
YES! that would be fantastic! I'd happily buy him a pint for that
Just installing OD as of right now as it is.
My phone has more Sense than me...
and i DONT like it
I've loaded the Liberty 1.5 ROM. I have to say, going from stock to Liberty (first rom) is eye opening. I have run across a few things that bug me. But, I've been able to work around them.
I am however stuck with the Liberty Camera. I've got a new baby and my family is on Facebook. The stock cam app was able to share directly to FB. Seems the Liberty Cam app doesn't support this.
I guess, what I'm looking for is a decent camera app that people have and recommend.
Also, any other apps that they feel are must needed. Kind of new to Android and the whole rooting thing. Been on a Blackberry for work for the last 4 years.
Load the Blur camera from the Liberty Toolbox. Should work for ya.
Blur camera did the trick! Thanks!
I want to hook my DX to my car 7" monitor head unit for the navi app. I bought real hdmi app but it will not detect the hdmi cable I bought to hook to car or the hdmi cable you get with the DX. Any ideas?

Is that the only thing keeping the Liberty ROM from utilizing the HDMI port? I was under the impression that it was broken no matter what with that ROM... I had heard this before and put the blur gallery on a friend's DX so he would stop complaining about it and it still doesn't work. I'm beginning to think that it's just a poor install of the ROM, but at anyrate...
Yeah liberty doesn't have the ability to do hdmi out. Because that was a blur element and this is stock android. I already contacted kejar about it and he said he may tinker with it if he gets the chance. I'm pretty sure none of the ROMs have HDMI capability though. Since they're all stock based.
Liberty - no hdmi
I'm also pretty sure Liberty is a no go with HDMI, I know apex supports it, probably a few other blur based roms too. I'd say switch roms, then come back to liberty when/if they add the feature.
Your other option would be to make a Liberty Backup, install Apex or other Blur Rom, and make a backup of apex, then use clockwork to switch back and forth, but thats kinda a hassle....
ApeX 1.4.1 works perfectly with HDMI... Add as much Blur as you want VIA ApexToolBox.
The kids watch movies all the time when we are driving around.

I might have to try this... Hmmm. I'm really in love with Liberty though all things considered I think it's the best of both worlds and is my go to for the D2 and Dx when people want to try a ROM out.
I do flip between the factory ROM and Liberty quite a big just for testing purposes, but I always go right back to Liberty after I'm done. To see the two side by side running is just pitiful.

You won't look back... I'm one of the few who enjoys the goodies that Blur offers but hates the lag involved in having it. ApeX has changed that... I have the Blur Widgets, the Gallery, Dialer and Some of the other things... but I also have AOSP messaging.
So, I have a phone that just screams, smooth and stable as **** with everything I liked from the stock ROM.
I run the piss out of it and I have NEVER had an issue. Never been happier. I have to say to anybody with a DX... If you haven't taken ApeX for a test drive, you must!!!

LOL Ok. I'll give it a shot, but I'm one of those people who really never cared for the blur aspect. The ONLY thing I really miss about blur and I don't even think it was a blur thing is the messaging. I really like the finish where Liberty and other AOSP ROMs just have a basic interface. I kinda like the iPhone look for text messages if that gives you a clue. I know I know, just use Handcent, but meh.
I'll add it to my short list. I have to work through Rubix for a buddy of mine tonight. Sucks how I'm the one that gets to be the designated guinea pig all the time. Such is the life of a tweaker. Now off to see what's cooking in the Atrix world.

Yep, the messaging is Blur... That is what I like about ApeX. Boot from install everything is AOSP. But you can add all the Blur you like right through the apextoolbox.
I'm usually the Guinea pig also, I do alot of work on my HD2 Android Development, but after landing on ApeX for my DX.... My Nandroid backup is in the folder getting moldy. LOL.

I am using apex 1.4.1 now also i was on liberty. I never really use hdmi out buy its nice to know i can use it if i wanted. both roms are great
switched over to apex working great thanks again for the advice!!
Apex is by far my favorite so far although I am patiently awaiting liberty2.0, kinda hard to imagine goin back to liberty with the awsomeness I experience now with apex. I would also like to see this rumored cm7 that I keep hearing about. I have my Apex nandroid wherever I chose to roam.

I'm currently on blay0's ROM (deodexed) and I'm wondering whether or not I can replace the stock gallery app with the one from CM7. I'd assume there's some adb work involved (pushing CM7's gallery to the appropriate place) unless I'm grossly misinformed.
I don't want to go right ahead in case I somehow irreversibly mess things up, even though I can nandroid. It's also nice to have and provide discussion.
Why don't you install quickpic or some other third party application? My experiences with the cm7 are bad, it's terribly slow. the only thing it brings is nice eye candy.
My experiences with the Gallery in CM7 are better than those with the stock gallery, hence this thread.
I am happy with CM7, but with one tradeoff. I have never ever been able to use its gallery app. It takes forever to load images from sd card.
Just use QuickPic to browse images.
Can we stay on topic, please?
I do not want to use a third party app to do something as basic as browsing photos. I just want to do as the first post describes.
Possible, just push the ones you want and pull the ones from Blayo's.
Hm. I was thinking there could be something else involved but I'll give it a try regardless.

Isn't the cm7 gallery app just Gallery 3D?
A question on this:
The cm7 gallery doesn't seem to be deodexed. So if you wanted to copy an app like this, you have to copy the odex file as well, do you?

I knew I was missing something. ;o
Thanks for the heads up.
Quickpic
quickpic was a nice option to have gallery without bugs in ur cm7 rom
Just askin'.
I hate how laggy it is. Feels like it drags down the experience. But MotoBlur 4.0.4 on the other hand.....least obtrusive skin out there right now, in my opinion.
^^ this. Especially the launcher, first thing I did when I got my atrix is install go launcher. Also, how the option to enable/disable Mobile Data is not in with the other wireless settings - its in the battery section - drove me mad for awhile
Laggy and seriously ugly. Can't stand the UI at all its just really really ugly.
Some of the widgets weren't too bad though but on the whole it wasn't a very nice experience. Installed a new launcher after using the phone for a couple of weeks. Glad to be on cm7 now.

The damn blue status bar that just looks weird with apps with a black background! Why couldn't they have just made it black?
Other than that and the laggy (but fortunately replaceable) launcher, its a pretty solid rom and Motorola added quite a few useful features.

I like the status bar except on apps with black backgrounds. I generally like the UI. It's quite sluggish, though.
I don't really dislike it. But I prefer the stock look

Note that I'm currently on Blur. I've been on it for about two weeks. Before then I was on custom ROMs.
I actually quite like Motoblur 2.3, only if it was anywhere as smooth as the Froyo Blur that our phones shipped with... I just hope that our ICS/JB Blur will be way smoother and better than what we currently have with Gingerbread.

I like Blur UI but not on stock Atrix Gingerbread. The newer GingerBlur is faster and smoother than old Blur like Atrix has. Newer GingerBlur on Bionic,Droid 4 and Razr is way better. Even I like it much more than Blur on ICS.

The Blur on the Razr looked cool as hell. I like that black dock, home screen transition and those blue themed widgets way better than what we have on the atrix!

I'm using xperia launcher on nottachtrick and it's far better than stock blur.
I like blur, never got what was so bad about it
Don't know how the launcher is laggy
in landscape mode opening up the app drawer take a second to load
but in portrait mode it is instant
scrolling is fast, no ghosting
apps open almost instantly
I think people here just need to install spare parts, fast animations plus some animations disabled plus compatibility mode and it flies
I like the actual launcher, I used to be thrown off by it because of the app drawer button on the side [g2x and defy had it in center] but I really like having CALL TORCHLIGHT CONTACTS APP DRAWER
I don't have any widgets except for wifi and gps toggle and my 4 basics text, browser, camera, navigation
I had a custom theme so I didn't have to deal with the blue
unfortunately no one has really worked on GB 2.3.5 themes for blur..just cyanogen themes
the camera app is GREAT

I'm waiting for the ICS update (like everyone else), and I thought that the best way to do it would be to go back to Blur. I'm considering switching to CM7 due to how long Motor's taking, but I try to stay away from custom ROMs anyway. By bootloader's software locked anyway.
From the UI point of view Motoblur 2.3 was a descent improvement and I can't really fault it. What ruined it for me both in 2.2 and 2.3 was the number of annoying bugs and one could tell both ROMs had no any kind of optimisations done on them giving the impression the phone is running on much slower CPU. I had previously listed all known bugs in 2.3 for Motorola, on their own Forums, and was updating it as I found more. Before Google purchased Motorola they decided to delete the entire forums to avoid bad publicity since Motorola was being hammered with late upgrades and not responding to anyone.
Generally applications crash more often on Motorola's GB version than other ROMs. Motorola released several updates, some significant, for US-users but nothing for the UK and many other countries where Atrix was sold well. It simply means Motorola knowing ignored the issues in their phones since last year or since GB was released.
I have almost removed everything that Motoblur didn't depend on so I could improve the overall performance of the phone. Without doing my own optimisation procedure I could not use Atrix for this long. Motorola has its own to blame for not investing more on the software side of Atrix and ruined a fantastic phone the money could buy. I'm glad Sanjay Jha is no longer with Motorola Mobility.

My wife's stock Atrix cannot handle everyday apps like YouTube for example. Seems like that phone is running beta firmware and not mine.
