Is that the only thing keeping the Liberty ROM from utilizing the HDMI port? I was under the impression that it was broken no matter what with that ROM... I had heard this before and put the blur gallery on a friend's DX so he would stop complaining about it and it still doesn't work. I'm beginning to think that it's just a poor install of the ROM, but at anyrate...
Yeah liberty doesn't have the ability to do hdmi out. Because that was a blur element and this is stock android. I already contacted kejar about it and he said he may tinker with it if he gets the chance. I'm pretty sure none of the ROMs have HDMI capability though. Since they're all stock based.
Liberty - no hdmi
I'm also pretty sure Liberty is a no go with HDMI, I know apex supports it, probably a few other blur based roms too. I'd say switch roms, then come back to liberty when/if they add the feature.
Your other option would be to make a Liberty Backup, install Apex or other Blur Rom, and make a backup of apex, then use clockwork to switch back and forth, but thats kinda a hassle....
ApeX 1.4.1 works perfectly with HDMI... Add as much Blur as you want VIA ApexToolBox.

I might have to try this... Hmmm. I'm really in love with Liberty though all things considered I think it's the best of both worlds and is my go to for the D2 and Dx when people want to try a ROM out.
I do flip between the factory ROM and Liberty quite a big just for testing purposes, but I always go right back to Liberty after I'm done. To see the two side by side running is just pitiful.

You won't look back... I'm one of the few who enjoys the goodies that Blur offers but hates the lag involved in having it. ApeX has changed that... I have the Blur Widgets, the Gallery, Dialer and Some of the other things... but I also have AOSP messaging.
So, I have a phone that just screams, smooth and stable as **** with everything I liked from the stock ROM.
I run the piss out of it and I have NEVER had an issue. Never been happier. I have to say to anybody with a DX... If you haven't taken ApeX for a test drive, you must!!!

LOL Ok. I'll give it a shot, but I'm one of those people who really never cared for the blur aspect. The ONLY thing I really miss about blur and I don't even think it was a blur thing is the messaging. I really like the finish where Liberty and other AOSP ROMs just have a basic interface. I kinda like the iPhone look for text messages if that gives you a clue. I know I know, just use Handcent, but meh.
I'll add it to my short list. I have to work through Rubix for a buddy of mine tonight. Sucks how I'm the one that gets to be the designated guinea pig all the time. Such is the life of a tweaker. Now off to see what's cooking in the Atrix world.

So at first when I switched to the AOSP 1.6 ROM I was a little bummed that my beautiful phone was now...ugly. But! After a while I found little things, here and there, that slowly but surely began to make 1.6 better and better:
This is using a combination of metamorph (and various themes), Home++ and the HTC_IME keyboard (ported over from 1.5)
If you're on the fence between 1.6 and 1.5, let this be your nudge! I think my phone looks better now than it did even with Sense and it's a heck of a lot faster too!
I'm just really excited about this that's all. Anyone else manage to get 1.6 lookin' good?
Though I'm happy to hear that you've successfully switched -- I'd like to say that the majority of the people here probably didn't switch yet, because of few reasons (so far that I know of). Apparently 1.6 seems to not allow some people to use SMS and/or Bluetooth? If this has been fixed, then great -- I'd like to try it out. Otherwise, I don't know that I want to spend 10 minutes switching real quick, just to test SMS. I don't use bluetooth, so that wouldn't be a problem for me, though Home++ looks sweet!!. How have things gone for you?
if i could get 7 homescreens on 1.6 i'd jump in a heartbeat because of metamorph.
Ya I almost droped back down to 1.5 because I didn't have Sense, but now I'm using GDE and the better keyboard app. Hey how did you get the bootscreen changed on it?
If you want more info on Home++, here is their official page: link.
I love home++
There's a sweeter home beta to spruce it up to, but I would rather have eclair sense. It just looks so smooth, hard to beat. I was at my it dept today andran onto q fellow xda'er with a nexus. I'm jealous. Sucks that most of the sickest phones are on gsm, and cdma comes behind 6mo to never. Here I sit with Sprint though. Love the speed and data plan. Dangit.

There is a metamorph 2.0 extension pack that has an extended home app that allows you up to 10 home screens. It also allows landscape homescreen which is pretty cool.
I will get the links from another thread and post them back here in a minute.
Update:
Here is the link to the Metamorph 2.0 stock theme : http://android-stock-theme.googlecode.com/files/Android-2.0-Stock-Theme-v1.2.zip
And the Add on that will give you the 10 screens as well as some other extras: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=274033&d=1264741520
The best part is that it looks and acts like a stock AOSP 1.6/2.0 rom without any of the wierd behaviors of the other home replacements.
Thanks to Gregalous for the Links !
this is the exact set up I was going to do. the only thing that was stopping me was the constant syncing gmail, cal and stuff on aosp 1.6. Is that still an issue?
I do. If I were to switch to 1.6 I would end up building my own custom version and frankly I've spent enough time with my 1.5 rom.

well I'm not sure what I was thinking of. I guess maybe aosp 2.01? I don't know but I am sure glad you cleared it up for me! I have spent all morning getting it all hooked up and this is exactly what I was wanting. The 1.6 market is reason enough for me! it is light years better than 1.5 market.
I have quiet's 1.6 with gbhil's Googlebits, superuser, and quiet's headset fix. Everything works besides BT, don't care personally.

My browser double posted, sorry.
I didnt even think about not having facebook sync until you mentioned it, and I was going to try this out tonight lol.
Is it real bad without it? I have a little hatred in me for contacts without pictures, thats the main thing I guess, dont really use the whole updates and all that tab as it runs kinda slow when I can just use an app. Is there anyway to pull pictures down without Sense?
Also, I hope no one minds me asking this here but I just want to make sure im going to do this right if I do.
Im currently running fresh 1.1 with Modoco's custom kernel and 2.1 icons and want to try out AOSP 1.6
So I should:
1. Create a backup
2. Wipe my phone (will this remove root access forcing me to reroot?)
3. Flash AOSP 1.6
4. Can I load in Modocos custom kernel?
5. Get metamorph etc going blah blah
Any help is appreciated thanks.
This is just out of curiosity, but which do you like more and why?

Pretty much the same as Mast above. I keep a nandroid backup of CM6 as well as Liberated on my phone, and switch back and forth, but spend 90% of my time in Liberated.
I can't wait for "Liberated" 2.2...
CM6. Here's why...
Freedom, battery life, speed, lack of Sense (I hated it), and flexibility.
CM6...im loving the battery life, the speed, and the flexibility. I was hesitant to make the switch from Liberated at first because I'd lose Sense...but I dont miss Sense at all.
I don't even remember what Sense feels like. I just don't like the linkage in contacts. Liberated had been improved a lot with features that comparable with CM6 so I think I'm going to nandroid both for fun.
I'm still on the fence, I want to try and give Cyanogen another shot (I only ran it for a few hours before going back to Liberated), but right now I'm running Liberated, mainly because I'm still very close to the stock ROM that I'm comfortable with, while still getting perks like root, tethering, and a lack of bloatware. One thing I really hate about Cyanogen in comparison to Liberated/Stock is the call screen. When someone calls you and it has the choice to answer/deny, I think the stock looks a million times better. I also dont like the status bar
I prefer CM6 all day everyday.
I hate the HTC dialer and contacts replacement, "people". I don't need more category possibilities for my contacts than I have contacts. I want to be able to bring up contacts and do a one touch dial, without having to have a full page widget to access favorites quickly.
I don't like that with the Sense UI, HTC has taken Android so far from AOSP that is takes months for them to get updates complete after the Nexus One is updated. Then it takes more months for carriers to approve those updates for use on branded phones.
Sense is nonsense, IMO. Of course you may feel differently, and that's why we have choice.
Dito on the contacts "people" list. You just remind me where was my head ache. Both roms do have goods and bads
for those of your going back and forth between liberated and cm6, do you have to make any changes to your installed apps or you simply wipe everything and use clockwork to load one or the other ?
I'm with you two about the contacts; the HTC "improvements" are anything but.
However, I do like the sense dialer and a lot of other things about sense.
I used CM on my G1 from day one, and there were always little "gotchas:" lags, force closes, things that didn't quite work. That may not be the case with CM on the Aria, but I really like the way the phone works now. It even took me a while to root and try Liberated: nothing was broken.
That said, choice is beautiful. Many thanks to attn1 and everyone at CM for providing that.
Cyanogen
Because I don't like sence as much as I thought I would. Pluse I think CyanogenMod has more features.

If I dump sense for cm, will I lose the nice HTC flash player integration? I understand flash in 2.2 isn't supported by aria CPU?
If the CPU didn't support Flash then how would an HTC app make it suddenly support it? You'll be fine.

The fact is flash 10.1 only works on Froyo, and if you have an Arm7 Cpu. The aria does not have the correct cpu. Flash was compiled for that cpu ONLY. What the aria has is Flash Lite from HTC, not the same.

I too have had glitches and lockups with CM that i don't have with Liberated. For those that don't like the contacts integration of HTC, then you should really try Dialer One from the market. Cm is very configurable, but Liberated to me is more stable. If not for Dialer One I would probably live with the daily lockup I had with CM6.

HTC has a proprietary flash lite. Not fully featured but in many cases sufficient. Certainly beats nothing. I like having it but doesn't make CM6 a deal breaker for me.
Ive learned not to care about Sense UI but not having App Market is an issue. I cant find things through app brain or even ways to side install them because I cant find most of the actual apps.
How do I put the App Market back into CM6? Thanks.
I've only Used Rubix 1.0 but was think about switching to Fusion. Whats your favorite?
You should try them all out and decidde what one is best for you. In a ROM I look for stability so perfomance, and for me this was rubiX.
If you like rubiX try updating to the new version (1.6) http://www.droidforums.net/forum/drod2169-x/93478-rubix-focused-1-6-a.html
Thanks. When updating from rubix 1.0 to 1.6 do I have to wipe data and cache or can I just update over top of my current version of rubix? Also I have the incognito red theme installed I don't know if that matters.
All the info you need is in the link. You can install right over 1.0 but Personally I would format everything (except SDCard) before installing it.
I've tried all of them. I ended up back at ZapX after fission and rubix had TONS of reboots... Many times a day, everyday... Basically though, since they haven't unlocked it completely yet, you can make your own "rom" by rooting, installing any of the custom roms, getting titanium and uninstalling any unnecessary or unuseful apps... You can also overclock it yourself with the 99 cent DX/D2 Overclock app. AND you can get another app called MinFreeManager and customize the speed even more. Be careful and read the instructions on that one though! I use ZapX and did all of these things and my X flies! It only reboots occasionally if I'm trying to do too much and thats probably because I have it overclocked too much. I get high 1700 Quadrant scores and I'm quite pleased with it right now...
Fission, but can't go wrong with any of them
Fission is pretty good but it's really all about getting what you want out of a ROM. I suggest trying them all and seeing what fits you best.

Any tips on getting Metamorph working? It gets stuck at applying for me.
Edit: Never mind. Reboot didn't fix it, but strangely force quitting it and trying again did.
I'm using ZapX, it's the only one I tried because I don't have a lot of time to fiddle around with reconfiguring ROMs and such and I'm new to Android in general
It's great with the exception of the rebooting issues.
GPS doesn't seem to work amazingly, but that could be my area. I didn't have the stock ROM long enough to make a comparison.

I've flashed about all of the DX Roms I could find and I find myself coming back to stock rooted. Nothing on any of the roms seem to grab my attention to stick with them. It seems like I can do whatever I need on stock rooted, anyone else feel this way? What's all of the negativity towards Blur?
mostly all the bloatware that runs in the background. my roommate is on a stock DX and i run things without oc'ing incredibly faster than him, and he doesn't understand why.
mine doesn't have cityID, amazon mp3, social networking, dlna, kindle, skype, blockbuster all runnin in memory for no reason.
there is use for some of the blur stuff, but its mostly becuase its laggy and bloated... at least for me.
Hey all - looking for some flashers' opinions on MIUI. What do you think? Do you like it? It looks really slick and very functional, but I feel kind of lame flashing something onto my Android that looks so much like iOS lol, like I'm trying to be a poser But to those of you who run it or have tried it, what did you like and what did you not like?
I would maybe be running Launcher Plus Pro over it, so I'm also curious to hear what people think of the whole system, not just the home screen...?
Its a wierd looking rom. Kind of hard to navigate, is not user friendly in my opinion. The UI is too complicated and not so easy to use. I also didn't like that it doesn't have an app drawer.
I also got alot of fc's with that rom. I don't know. Just alot of lil things I didn't like.
MIUI is great! even though it does resemble iOS. It's smooth and responsive and I haven't had any force closes. What I noticed is I don't have to download an alternate launcher, sms app, browser, etc. I guess some bad things are no app drawer but I just organize all the apps into folders. Also there are a lot of settings you can mess with and the UI takes some getting used to but I think thats the fun of flashing new ROMs, something new to play with. Try out thederekjay's ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1060415 I'm pretty sure you'll like it too! And make sure you read everything before trying it out. =p
this rom looks very nice im give it a try when i can and let ya guys know what up thx
I know some people really like it, but my PERSONAL OPINION is, if I wanted iOs, i would get an iPhone.
I have tried it twice because after my first try it felt like a gimick and too iphonish but I liked the icons. After the second useage I missed the drawer and I also got a lot of fcs. What I did to satify my Miui taste was download the MIUI launcher. Its made exactly like ADW and looks like MIUI with a drawer and you could add icons.
Thank you all for your opinions! I'm on the go right now and can't flash it, but will when I have some time to play around with it and test it out. Like I said, I'll likely be throwing LPP over it to use as my home launcher, so I'm curious about how it runs system-wide, not just the aesthetics of the launcher...good battery? Good data connection and speeds? I'll likely be trying the demonspeed MIUI rom by derek...I know the settings menu and just about everything is different from AOSP/Sense, so I'm curious to try something new...
I have flashed both Evil D's and thederekjay's MIUI roms and I love them both! tdj's demonSPEED rom is blazing fast and never had any real problems with it(the problems I did have were fixed very quickly ). it does resemble iOS, but more customizable. yes the menu options are confusing at times, but after a while you get used to it and know where everything is. I also have used both ADW EX and LauncherPro with no issues with both roms. battery life is awesome, I got 26hrs on a full charge. some advice: make a nandroid backup and just flash one of the MIUI roms, preferably demonSPEED, to get a feel for it. cant hurt to try it out its a very fun rom. plus netflix works
Lets not forget the Cool Things you can do in it. The New Version 1.5.20 has the MIUI Camera and this Camera is Really Good. It Auto Focuses and is very fast when taking pics. Plus when you get a MMS you have the option to save the pic and also crop or rotate it how you like. Then lets not forget about the Flashlight while pressing home on lockscreen. Comes in handy if you need it for a minute. And the Dialer has an option to record calls, if you might need to after authorization from the other person first. Those are the main things that i like about it but overall its really great. Oh and the Gallery is light and loads really fast. Especially if you have a lot of pics like me.

not to mention the pull down is really neat and if u long press the icons it takes u directly to that option(thats one of my favs) also much like Sense, it has the abilty to flip to silence and quiet ring on pickup.. Eh maybe does resemble iOS in someways(and boy do i hate apple)... but imho it takes the functionality from different manufactures/developers and mashes them into one... the dialer is second to none, with t9 capabilities, to the little details in tells u(for example missed calls, the number of rings before they hung up, that's just neat) the sms/mms is beyond that of any stock rom... searching for contacts is a breeze... i honestly have never used a rom that is so functional right out of the box without the assistance of 3rd party apps... battery life is great and the way it utilizes the ram is beyond awesome..the launcher may be really iphoneish but it looks amazing with how the icons r sized and just the graphical dispaly alone is great! not for nothing, if the only thing holding u back from MIUI is the iphoneish look, i would suggest downloading it and using it for a week... i was the same way @ first but now i wont look back!

If you are using the default 240 density (not sure how anyone can use this phone at all at that density personally), it's actually a pretty slick/clean looking interface IMHO.

It sounds like either people like it or hate. I used royalginger for sometime with launcher pro plus. It was fast and smooth but battery was less ideal with launcher pro. Stock launcher was too plain for me. So I tried thederekjay's MIUI rom for kicks and loved it. Takes some getting use to coming from CM7based rom. Tons of customization to modify the look of the phone. Runs very fast and smooth. Great battery life. You should give it a fair look with a test drive to see if you like it.

Miui is HORRIBLE. It is ios look alike and it is the exact same look and feel of samsucks touchwiz. I would never use miui. Its horrible.

i wouldnt bother flashing it just because it looks so much like iOS.
So I flashed it earlier tonight, and tried it for about an hour...in the end, my personal opinion was that I wasn't crazy about it. It was fun to play around with something totally different than the usual AOSP/Sense roms, but the aesthetics and overall look and feel just wasn't doing it for me. Maybe it's because I've gotten used to the other android os options, but it didn't seem as refined and classy as some of the other roms. To each his own, but for me I'm going to flash to something else.
But to thederekjay, thank you for your hard work on the rom! I could see why some would like it, and the rom itself felt smooth. That's the great thing about having options We can all flash and run what works best for us
looks too much like iOS, any1 else feel the same way?
it does and i said the same thing but iv been running it for a month now, switching off to new sense roms but within a hour im back it works way to good. All the sense roms out battery life sucks, it lags, and even after switching to a new kernel seems something breaks like wifi.
Personally I like savzen I agree that sense eats up battery life but I enjoy the Widgets but I can do without

love sense, but ran it for so long it got boring, went to MIUI then found out it had no app drawer like iOS, and i didnt like that experience lol, now im running an AOSP rom
Really can't stand Sense anything. I tried the MIUI for about 10 minutes. Definitely not for me. CM7 does everything I need it to.

MIUI is ios if ios was designed really, really well. It may "simply" look the same, but it isn't remotely close. I highly recommend you try it before you bash it for not having an app drawer.

i did try it, for almost a day, but the feel was too much like iOS, i get what ur saying, but it really doesnt feel like i have an android on my hands if u kno what i mean
I'm using the MIUI Tim and I love it I guess my only issue is that I'm not experiencing that long battery life everyone is speaking of am I doing something wrong... help lol I have the cyotogen 7 kernel if that helps
sttonydamunsta luv my evo4g
I wasn't thrilled with the lack of the app drawer but that's easily fixed by loading another launcher. When I was using MIUI it was Launcher Pro.
MIUI looks like iOS after a fresh flash, but it doesn't have to. That's what I love most about it, I can theme every aspect of it. I use Alt Drawer, so I have an app drawer.
Plus it's smooth, has a lot of neat apps, and is different than any other rom I've seen. I switched to it because I was bored with CM7 and didn't like Sense. That was in April and I haven't looked back.

i tried that, but the more apps i put in, the laggier it got for some reason, and it was really cramped, kind of annoying to try to find an app lol
I am on the dislike MIUI bandwagon too. I'm not going to bash it as I agree it has some sick features. The killer for me was the app drawer and 4g. I think if I gave it more than a day I could customize it to my liking but I just like Sense and all the Sense features.
I thought about maybe a custom launcher but then I thought "why change from a Sense rom that is native to my HTC phone that guarantees GPS ect to work by default and install one that isn't just to put a launcher over it and defeat the purpose"
I got bored with Sense launcher and Rosie so I currently have ADW ex installed and still have flawless gps, the dialer I like, everything synced how I like, email app I like apps where I want ect... right from the start.
I could do that with MIUI or CM but then I have to install DialerOne, GoSMS and a few other things to get what I like. I can't stand any of the AOSP dialer and sms layouts.
If I didn't live in such a 4g rich area I would probably give MIUI the turn it deserves but that is a killer before I start. It's also what's really irking me about the new Sense 3.5 Roms. Runny~Bliss(i think) hybrid looks gorgeous to me..... but I'll wait it out.
Miui isn't a bad rom at all. At first I refuse to use it because it did remind me of my old iPhone. But ended up trying it and loving it.
I get better battery life with miui compared to sense. Plus there is alot of built in apps and features to miui that is bad ass. And who can forget all the sweet customizing you can do to it. For example just did this setup below a few minutes ago...
One somewhat downside for me is the no 4G but then again that only effects me when I go visit my parents up state. That's when I backup Miui and switch to a sense Rom problem solved haha.

MIUI is AMAZING. I love it. And the theming? NO ROM beats it! Its fantastic the way you can make your phone look. The only reason why I won run it, is because of the laggyness of the keyboard.
Here is my current setup of MIUI, and it damn sure doesn't look like iOS to me...
BTW, my GPS snaps perfectly, syncing all 8 SATS in about a millisecond. I really don't get why people make comments without knowing how to do something.
Maybe it does look a bit like iOS. But I don't care, it's still the smoothest and best ROM I've flashed on my Evo. (and particularly this week's build is quite stable so far).

Not sure if that was directed to my gps comment but either way...... It's a know fact that aosp based roms are more subject to gps issue and have had numerous "fixes" posted to resolve.
It's not a matter of what I KNOW how to do it what i WANT to deal with. I never said aosp or miui were bad by any means. Just not my cup.
Posted a long time ago in the future.
I used to think the same. Now, I have customized Miui to my liking by creating my own app drawer and installing a new theme via the built in theme manager. It is very fast, very advanced, highly customizable and finally pulled me away from Sense (though I do have two Sense Roms in my Boot Manager slots).
