I've only Used Rubix 1.0 but was think about switching to Fusion. Whats your favorite?
You should try them all out and decidde what one is best for you. In a ROM I look for stability so perfomance, and for me this was rubiX.
If you like rubiX try updating to the new version (1.6) http://www.droidforums.net/forum/drod2169-x/93478-rubix-focused-1-6-a.html
Thanks. When updating from rubix 1.0 to 1.6 do I have to wipe data and cache or can I just update over top of my current version of rubix? Also I have the incognito red theme installed I don't know if that matters.
All the info you need is in the link. You can install right over 1.0 but Personally I would format everything (except SDCard) before installing it.
I've tried all of them. I ended up back at ZapX after fission and rubix had TONS of reboots... Many times a day, everyday... Basically though, since they haven't unlocked it completely yet, you can make your own "rom" by rooting, installing any of the custom roms, getting titanium and uninstalling any unnecessary or unuseful apps... You can also overclock it yourself with the 99 cent DX/D2 Overclock app. AND you can get another app called MinFreeManager and customize the speed even more. Be careful and read the instructions on that one though! I use ZapX and did all of these things and my X flies! It only reboots occasionally if I'm trying to do too much and thats probably because I have it overclocked too much. I get high 1700 Quadrant scores and I'm quite pleased with it right now...
Fission, but can't go wrong with any of them
Fission is pretty good but it's really all about getting what you want out of a ROM. I suggest trying them all and seeing what fits you best.

Ive been using fission and love the speed. also i havent had 1 fc in it yet. If you want a good Vanilla build try fission, but with roms everone likes something different just try them all!
have used flyX, apeX, and now fission. Fission is the fastest/cleanest in my opinion. only blur i put back on it was the blurcamera.apk, other than that make sure your contacts are on google.
For something really cool if you're using fission (only rom i've done this on so far)... go here: hxxp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=764787 and download Alternate Window Animations --> Change_Anims.zip in the second post apply it via metamorph. awesome window transitions.

Any tips on getting Metamorph working? It gets stuck at applying for me.
Edit: Never mind. Reboot didn't fix it, but strangely force quitting it and trying again did.
I'm using ZapX, it's the only one I tried because I don't have a lot of time to fiddle around with reconfiguring ROMs and such and I'm new to Android in general
It's great with the exception of the rebooting issues.
GPS doesn't seem to work amazingly, but that could be my area. I didn't have the stock ROM long enough to make a comparison.

Metamoph is glitchy like that sometimes you have to do things twice to get what your doing to apply correctly. Always nandroid before doing anything big

I've flashed about all of the DX Roms I could find and I find myself coming back to stock rooted. Nothing on any of the roms seem to grab my attention to stick with them. It seems like I can do whatever I need on stock rooted, anyone else feel this way? What's all of the negativity towards Blur?
mostly all the bloatware that runs in the background. my roommate is on a stock DX and i run things without oc'ing incredibly faster than him, and he doesn't understand why.
mine doesn't have cityID, amazon mp3, social networking, dlna, kindle, skype, blockbuster all runnin in memory for no reason.
there is use for some of the blur stuff, but its mostly becuase its laggy and bloated... at least for me.

So at first when I switched to the AOSP 1.6 ROM I was a little bummed that my beautiful phone was now...ugly. But! After a while I found little things, here and there, that slowly but surely began to make 1.6 better and better:
This is using a combination of metamorph (and various themes), Home++ and the HTC_IME keyboard (ported over from 1.5)
If you're on the fence between 1.6 and 1.5, let this be your nudge! I think my phone looks better now than it did even with Sense and it's a heck of a lot faster too!
I'm just really excited about this that's all. Anyone else manage to get 1.6 lookin' good?
Though I'm happy to hear that you've successfully switched -- I'd like to say that the majority of the people here probably didn't switch yet, because of few reasons (so far that I know of). Apparently 1.6 seems to not allow some people to use SMS and/or Bluetooth? If this has been fixed, then great -- I'd like to try it out. Otherwise, I don't know that I want to spend 10 minutes switching real quick, just to test SMS. I don't use bluetooth, so that wouldn't be a problem for me, though Home++ looks sweet!!. How have things gone for you?
if i could get 7 homescreens on 1.6 i'd jump in a heartbeat because of metamorph.
Ya I almost droped back down to 1.5 because I didn't have Sense, but now I'm using GDE and the better keyboard app. Hey how did you get the bootscreen changed on it?
If you want more info on Home++, here is their official page: link.
I love home++
There's a sweeter home beta to spruce it up to, but I would rather have eclair sense. It just looks so smooth, hard to beat. I was at my it dept today andran onto q fellow xda'er with a nexus. I'm jealous. Sucks that most of the sickest phones are on gsm, and cdma comes behind 6mo to never. Here I sit with Sprint though. Love the speed and data plan. Dangit.

There is a metamorph 2.0 extension pack that has an extended home app that allows you up to 10 home screens. It also allows landscape homescreen which is pretty cool.
I will get the links from another thread and post them back here in a minute.
Update:
Here is the link to the Metamorph 2.0 stock theme : http://android-stock-theme.googlecode.com/files/Android-2.0-Stock-Theme-v1.2.zip
And the Add on that will give you the 10 screens as well as some other extras: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=274033&d=1264741520
The best part is that it looks and acts like a stock AOSP 1.6/2.0 rom without any of the wierd behaviors of the other home replacements.
Thanks to Gregalous for the Links !
this is the exact set up I was going to do. the only thing that was stopping me was the constant syncing gmail, cal and stuff on aosp 1.6. Is that still an issue?
I do. If I were to switch to 1.6 I would end up building my own custom version and frankly I've spent enough time with my 1.5 rom.

AOSP 1.6 never had constant syncing issue.
so i tried this with home++ and i gotta say, it was really awesome. but i STILL ended up going back to 1.5 sense because i missed htc's widgets too much. three of my homescreens are all htc sense widgets... i just can't live without em!

You can! If you dont want to use a new home app then you can get AdvancedLauncher.apk (available in many metamorph themes) allows you to change the number of home screens among other things

well I'm not sure what I was thinking of. I guess maybe aosp 2.01? I don't know but I am sure glad you cleared it up for me! I have spent all morning getting it all hooked up and this is exactly what I was wanting. The 1.6 market is reason enough for me! it is light years better than 1.5 market.
I have quiet's 1.6 with gbhil's Googlebits, superuser, and quiet's headset fix. Everything works besides BT, don't care personally.

My browser double posted, sorry.
I didnt even think about not having facebook sync until you mentioned it, and I was going to try this out tonight lol.
Is it real bad without it? I have a little hatred in me for contacts without pictures, thats the main thing I guess, dont really use the whole updates and all that tab as it runs kinda slow when I can just use an app. Is there anyway to pull pictures down without Sense?
Also, I hope no one minds me asking this here but I just want to make sure im going to do this right if I do.
Im currently running fresh 1.1 with Modoco's custom kernel and 2.1 icons and want to try out AOSP 1.6
So I should:
1. Create a backup
2. Wipe my phone (will this remove root access forcing me to reroot?)
3. Flash AOSP 1.6
4. Can I load in Modocos custom kernel?
5. Get metamorph etc going blah blah
Any help is appreciated thanks.
Cyanogen mod Rom:
Pro:
-fast in terms of browsing through the menus and such (IE not lagging AT ALL when I scroll down hundreds of .apk files I have on my SD card)
-barebone ROM ready for customization (void of many apps the stock ROM and Virtuous ROM comes with)
Cons:
-lack of installed programs (had to install Android Market separately for goodness sakes)
-lack of flashiness (not as sexy as Sense Rom)
-much slower bootup time
Virtuous
Pro:
-sexier interface (HTC Sense)
-faster shutdown and bootup time (3 seconds and 2 seconds respectively)
-a lot more apps preinstalled
Cons:
-a bit sluggish when browsing through apps and such (IE trying to scroll through 100+ apps on your SD card)
There you have it folks. The completely subjective guide to these two ROMS.
This should be a good starter for Android noobs like I was two weeks ago when I first got the phone.
These two ROMS have little tweaks and mods that the stock ROM does not have that honestly go over my head but is suppose to give performance enhancements and streamline various processes.
Reason people use CM is because it is like the Google Chrome of internet browers; it is lightning fast.
Reason people use Virtuous is because it is more user friendly. You don't have to spend so much time researching where to download GAPPS and flash it with ROM manager like you would if you use CM.
I personally used the Virtuous ROM when I first started out, and I just moved to the CM ROM today once I got the hang of things.
Stock CM homescreen was kind of dull and unappealing so I downloaded Launcher Pro and downloaded customized docks for it, and now it looks pretty damn sexy.
That's just my two cents on these things.
I have CM RC3 w/ launcher pro. I find that at times when going back to my homescreen the widgets lag about a second or two behind. When I used sence on the device it would lag a lot. I would pull down the status bar and I had to wait for it to pull down, that's why I made the jump to CM. I really enjoy CM and have cut back on the widgets to prevent a lag.
Edit: CM has a separate zip with all the Google apps like market so OP I don't see why that would be a con. CM builds also have trackpad wake built in.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Great starting point on a comparison guide.
However, how is the CM Rom "Barebone"..? It has many features over stock and destroys any other build I have ever seen on any phone to date. The lack of Google apps was from an order by Google to not include any Google apps in roms. That is why there is the Gapps.zip located where the download is for the CM Roms.
I personally hate sense user interface since I like to have a single blank screen besides a clock widget and a pacman wallpaper. No app drawer Icon since i use flick up to open the drawer.
That reminds me.
I forgot to mention that my G2 is overclocked to about 1.2 ghz and I have 1 calendar widget, 1 SetCPU widget, and 3 app shortcuts. That's it.
Overclocking works wonders, for those of you who wonder if overclocking has appreciable differences or not.

I suppose everyone has their own taste. Some people like to load their screens full of random ass widgets. Some people like it simple and have a clean homescreen. Others compromise between the two (like me)
And your point is duly noted.

Also Sense UI takes up quite a bit more memory and it shows in benchmarks and in high end applications.
CM is stripped down so you can add items you want to add to it such as transitions and other UI tweaks with out having all the bloat of Sense UI.
Sense UI is ok and all but soon as you try to adjust your pixel density it will look like ass =/
It's all personal prefence. I like the Sense ui, but it really does take up a lot of memory. Using the Advanced Task Manager with Sense I can see when I free up memory, I'll have about 100mb left, meanwhile with the stock rom, clearing out apps, will give me about 190-200mb.
Not that it matters, because Android has great Ram management but still for the self conscience ones it bothers them.
i like virtuous because its nice and fast enough for me
Nice little basic write up.
My first ROM to ever flash was the CM V6.1.0-RC4, and I found the GAPPS, after much researching.
I kinda like that way I have stuff set up after 3 days of permroot, and flashing this ROM, so I don't know if I need to test the waters and see about the Virtuous.
I've never had the delay on wake-ups, and the start up time beats the hell out of stock.
I love waking my phone up from the track pad, that was always weird to me having to hit the power key twice to unlock on stock.
BillY
Both roms are VERY good roms. I personally switch back and forth here and there for the fun of it. But my personal favorite would have to be CM. Virtous isnt too far behind it though.
Sense or no sense thats the difference. The only difference imo.

Virtuous pros:
->Updating is a breeze.. I love the patches, unlike CM that you need to download huge file plus google apps and wipe every time update is around.
->I think there is more camera/video function on the virtuous.
->I love the hidden top taskbar.. multitasking is made easy.
->Built in Titanium back up
->Built in QuickOffice
->Did I say.. DLNA?
...---- You can output your pictures, videos and music to your TV.. how cool is that.
->When you hold and press power button, it gives you so many power related choices.
->Built in, SMS, MMS widget
->Register to HTC sense and when your phone is stolen, you can locate it.
->Much better car panel.
->I love the wheel like GUI when you adjust time/alarm... it is so much easier.
->'Clock' , has many functions.. Timer/Stop watch/world Clock....
->The clock + weather widget.. your screen rains/clouds/etc depending on the weather.
->Flip the phone while ringing and it will silent it.. very good function during meetings.
->I think it rings louder when it is inside your pocket.
->It has it's own navigation app.. It downloaded something on my first use... I think that's the local map loaded in your phone. You could probably still use navigation without data connection.
->FM radio is already stated above.
Virtuous cons:
->no built in swype yet
CM pros:
->unlike virtuous, you can put to phone to 'silent' so easily
->And, I have used CM for a long time.. could be that I am just used to it.
none of the ROMS have built in swype.

Both great ROMS
I think that they are both great ROMs. I keep going from one to the other as soon as a new revision comes out. I do think that Virtuous could use the silent option in the power options, a percentage indicator when charging, and the auto rotate when in the home screen. Other than that, both ROMs ROCK!

I generally use Battery Watcher for power percentage (shows it even when charging). Virtuous does have a silent option in the power options thing and also rotates now.
I use a sense based virtuous rom with launcher pro since I like the HTC apps (not so much the widgets). Uploading to facebook via gallery could not be easier and better managed. Also, the HTC camera app is really good! HTC sms app lags a little when I have over 400 messages to load and the contacts app lacks a filter.
HTC apps are the only thing holding me back from going CM

I think they are both excellent roms however I don't care for all the dev added stuff. Its like t mobile only with the developers marks all over the place. Personally I use Enomther's rom and will always recommend him over any other. Stable, added optional goodies and lightning fast everything anyone could want. As far as sense roms go I would use EvilD'S mt4g rom as its amazing!

I use the ESPN site, YouTube and my Camera often. Not a big Hulu guy. I run Miki and love it. Came from Sprint Lovers and probably won't go anywhere else.
Lots of people run Myns too though.
Maybe try both? I'm partial to Mik
Yah. I'm guessing I should test both, won't hurt. Thanks. I do have another question.... how do I backup my phone, is it an easy step?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Nandroid backup in recovery.
if you dont care about themeing , id just use sprint lovers, i keep trying mikfroyo because its supposed to be sooooo fast, how ever i dont notice any speed increase over myns and keep going back. Myns is just sexy/classy, some of the other roms look "cheaper", i spend forever trying to theme them to my liking, and then wipe and nandroid back to myn. lol
id just pick the one that you think looks best.
ALSO, once you root, you will install a recovery,(click me, im the best). from that recovery menu, you can create whats called a nandroid back up. so you can set every thing up how you like it, nandroid, then try a differnt rom, if you want to go back, you go back into recovery and restore you previous nandroid back up. its easy
Nandroid back up is done through recovery,to back up individual apps I use ti back up.
Thank you for the replies. A great help all around.

Turn phone off>hold power and volume rocker down and wait for phone to boot into recovery.>go to nandroid backup/restore.>go to backup and make a nand backup. Takes from 3~5 minutes to finish. And now you have created a nand backup.
A nand backup pretty much clones your current system. Contacts apps etc. it does not let you restore apps our contacts to another rom. You need to use something like titanium backup

I like myn's better, but I get massive delays in my texts on that ROM, so I have switched to miki when I need 4G (salvage mod is my daily). If/when RLS 6 comes out I will test it out and hope the text issues go away. I'm not knocking myn's, and I appear to be in the minority with this issue.
Since I got my Evo a couple weeks ago, I installed MikFroyo.
I keep telling myself I want to wipe and try a few of the other ROMs like MiUi, however Mik's runs so smoothly and haven't noticed any issues with it, so have yet to get rid of it. That should say something for it.
i have Myn RLS5... run Hulu just fine and youtube too.
i like the look of Myn and all the black.
i have been tempted to go get a basic Froyo and drop Launcher Pro on it.
I have tried both, and prefer Myns. You should try both of them, and see which you like better. I have nothing bad to say about either of them, I just like Myn's better. I love having options though, and trying new roms. So try them both, and see which works better for you.
I love both roms but find myself going to Mik. It seems to just move through menus quicker then myns and just a tad snappier. Both amazing roms. Mik if you want a little faster myns is you want a really sexy looking theme
just about every sense based rom will do every thing you want fine. Some roms sem to work better on some peopels phones then others (or its all int here head). I personally prefer FRESH and EVIO. Myn's is cool but most people like it simply because of the look, since i have a theme i use i have incorporated the parts of myn's look i like into my regular theme and can use any rom now with that look.
In my experiance having flashed jsut about every sense based rom/versino. you wont see dramatic diffrence (except in your head).
It's all about CM, hands down best rom in my opinion.

You should have really made a poll for this thread. Would have probably been easier

To the op, a nandroid baxks up your rom, like a failsafeto go back to if something goes wrong. Use titanium backup to backup your apps, and your contacts will be backed up on your google account and will resync to your phone when you log back in.
I'm going with myns warm
I've been trying different roms like i was a teenage girl looking for a prom dress the last couple days and I'm pretty happy with the appearance and performance of myns warm with warm blood theme am looking for the keyboard to go with it but i'm really happy with the overall rom ,I put a living wallpaper with it ,looks like a blood river.I would just like to say thanks to the developers of this rom.

Is that the only thing keeping the Liberty ROM from utilizing the HDMI port? I was under the impression that it was broken no matter what with that ROM... I had heard this before and put the blur gallery on a friend's DX so he would stop complaining about it and it still doesn't work. I'm beginning to think that it's just a poor install of the ROM, but at anyrate...
Yeah liberty doesn't have the ability to do hdmi out. Because that was a blur element and this is stock android. I already contacted kejar about it and he said he may tinker with it if he gets the chance. I'm pretty sure none of the ROMs have HDMI capability though. Since they're all stock based.
Liberty - no hdmi
I'm also pretty sure Liberty is a no go with HDMI, I know apex supports it, probably a few other blur based roms too. I'd say switch roms, then come back to liberty when/if they add the feature.
Your other option would be to make a Liberty Backup, install Apex or other Blur Rom, and make a backup of apex, then use clockwork to switch back and forth, but thats kinda a hassle....
ApeX 1.4.1 works perfectly with HDMI... Add as much Blur as you want VIA ApexToolBox.

LOL Ok. I'll give it a shot, but I'm one of those people who really never cared for the blur aspect. The ONLY thing I really miss about blur and I don't even think it was a blur thing is the messaging. I really like the finish where Liberty and other AOSP ROMs just have a basic interface. I kinda like the iPhone look for text messages if that gives you a clue. I know I know, just use Handcent, but meh.
I'll add it to my short list. I have to work through Rubix for a buddy of mine tonight. Sucks how I'm the one that gets to be the designated guinea pig all the time. Such is the life of a tweaker. Now off to see what's cooking in the Atrix world.

Yep, the messaging is Blur... That is what I like about ApeX. Boot from install everything is AOSP. But you can add all the Blur you like right through the apextoolbox.
I'm usually the Guinea pig also, I do alot of work on my HD2 Android Development, but after landing on ApeX for my DX.... My Nandroid backup is in the folder getting moldy. LOL.

Hermmm. Must try. Oh well. Enough of taking the dude's thread off track. hahaa
I am using apex 1.4.1 now also i was on liberty. I never really use hdmi out buy its nice to know i can use it if i wanted. both roms are great
switched over to apex working great thanks again for the advice!!
Apex is by far my favorite so far although I am patiently awaiting liberty2.0, kinda hard to imagine goin back to liberty with the awsomeness I experience now with apex. I would also like to see this rumored cm7 that I keep hearing about. I have my Apex nandroid wherever I chose to roam.

ok heres the update to this rom.
superuser no longer fcs
used bamfs 1.6.3 framework in some areas, mine in others. credit to him for the animations and other smoothness thats been added. credit to bgill for the location icon removal. credit to adrynalyne for the wake on volume key press, credit to jcase for radio settings in settings. thanks to dsb and dhemke17 for general support and issues i had as well as all the other posts and developers.
rooted
deodexed
zipaligned
tweaks to system and build.prop
STOCK kernal. choose which you prefer. i use imoseyons
[!]removed a lot of the apps and widgets. call it debloat if you want, i made the /system/ as free as possible. no facebook twitter most widgets etc. removed some sounds, all live wallpapers, all vzw apps
its lightly themed. its mostly green with some blue; high res icons.
i took most of my icons form Darkslide 4.2 for the DroidX, the Radioactive Theme for the Droid X, Gingerbread icons, Icons from torrents pirated on the bay, i think Liberty 1.5 for the DX, and some personally altered ones. other than the personally altered ones i take no credit, and for those, i also want no credit. Go to droidforums or droidxforums to find those themes i mentioned.
i kept rosie and also added launcher pro as i prefer that.
in the future i plan on themeing the browser, messaging app, gmail, and settings to mesh with the theme more.
also, credit goes to my cat, Sophie, the chicken. had she not hid under the sofa for three days when i got her, i may never have came up with a name for her, or this rom
any issues, let me know. here or through a pm. same with tips, advice, etc.
i wiped cache and dalvick. it works great from what ive ran so far. battery is dependent on the kernal, but with this so stripped down, it should help as well
i give you, SofaChicken:

here you go. its an image i took from a google search and turned it green
new rom. def better than the last. check it out!
looks good, trying now. Thanks for the work! Would help if had mirror.
Where could I get the alternative battery meter that you use or others if you have them. Great job on this ROM ive been tweaking and playing around with my home launcher for a couple weeks so I appreciated the launcher Pro packaged in with it
Whoa my ROM is still getting hits! LOL.
Switch to gb man. I can't bring myself to cook up my own gb ROM bc I've already used bamf n I'll never beat that.
Just go into framework n pull the png files I used. I got the idea from an old dx ROM, darkslide. I took out n added a few details, but my ocd needs to see 1% increments now along w other cool features the new roms have.
Maybe it's time I do make another..
When you do, if you do I will definitely give it a shot. I stopped using gingerbread radios because for some reason they never lock onto GPS right. And I couldn't find a way to get Gingerbread from chewing up my battery so bad. Froyo roms are good for battery at least for me.
