[Q] Screen issue unlock/lock w/ power button - G2 and Desire Z General

Hey everyone,
So I just got a replacement phone from T-mobile through a warranty exchange and have had an intermittent issue with it lately.
After using my phone I always press the power button quick to lock the screen and turn it off. Well when I do that it occasionally will go black for a second then turn back on in the locked state. It can take up to 6 or 7 attempts of pressing the power button quick to turn the screen off like it should.
Trying to use the power button to turn the screen back on once locked it has a similar issue but it will turn on for a second then go black again. This can take several attempts to get the screen to keep on so I can use the screen.
Anyone have an idea on a cause or even better a solution to this?
My best guess is a hardware issue that I cant do much about besides trying to do another exchange with T-mobile.
Any help is appreciated.

The warranty exchange phones are re-furbished phones and it isn't uncommon for there to be something wrong with the warranty replacement. Hopefully if you haven't rooted the phone then just call them back up and tell them that there is something mechanically wrong with the warranty replacement. They won't be surprised and they'll send out another one.

remember you can always unroot....

Well of course ... but I mean if he just got the replacement phone then he may not have rooted it so it's one step less prior to sending it back ... that's what I meant.

Touch HD No Display

Noob here, I've searched but no joy on this one...
My Touch HD has just developed a foult where the screen is dead. Nothing happens when I switch it on but the device works...when I connect it to my PC it syncs happily and it rings in.
Which suggests it's hardware...EXECPT
I CAN get the screen to switch on by forcing a power down (hold the power button until the warning appears), if I then cancel this, the screen functions quite happily and will even go in and out of standby until it switches off...
I have tried a Hard Reset (Clear Storage method) but it is still the same.
If I try and flash the ROM, it switches the phone off and the programme fails.
It does occasionally pop up with a Microp error but not every time...
Help, please?
TIA
I developed a similar error today. The phone has worked just fine before.
The screen operates just fine while it's lit up, and when booting it works without a problem. However, if I turn off the screen or if it turns itself off, I can hardly get it on again. The power button itself works just fine since I can use the device blindly while the screen is off (but should be on). So I could launch programs blindly by tapping the screen accordingly. To clarify, the two states are:
1. Screen sleep | Screen is off | Device doesn't respond to touch
Push power button
2. Screen awake | Screen is off(!) | Device responds to touch
What the hell is that all about? In order to get the screen lit up when I wake it up, I need to push the power button perhaps 10 times before the screen actually lits up.
Any ideas?

Now everything is working just fine.

Power button not working (unlocked device, 2nd owner?)Update!

So the power button on my nexus one completely stopped working. I shut off the device and could not turn it back on. After popping battery in an out a few times I finally somehow, got it to turn on. Now i'm going to need to make sure it stays on all the time.
Now my question. To me this looks like a manufacturers hardware defect, so would the unlocked bootloader and me being the second owner of the device make any sort of difference here?
Any other way to turn the device on when its completely shut off?
Update #1: 7/30/10
Called HTC, then i got transferred to Nexus one department then back to HTC. Described my problem to everyone. They were nice to say they will get that taken care of. Told him i got the phone as a gift, updated my info, and I'm doing the swap option. He also said that any "physical" damage to the device might be charged, aka broken screen or w.e, regular wear and tear is fine. Mentioned nothing at all about software. I'm flashing back to stock either way. Will update as time goes
Same power button problem. Haven't checked into warranty with bootloader being unlocked, but if you plug up the usb cord, wait for the little led light to come on, take out the battery and put it back in as soon as the light goes off, then it will power the phone back on.
Ah i guess that's how i got lucky with turning it on then.
Hmm, i might give them a call tomorrow and see what they say.
Let us know what they say if you don't mind.
No worries with HTC. I was a second owner of my first N1. I traded my Iphone 3GS for it. Unlocked the bootloader first 10 minutes i had the thing. Few weeks later. I saw dust under the screen. Called up HTC. Gave them IMEI. Told them my girl got it for me for my birthday. They gave me an address.(original owners). I said nope and gave them mine. Went through the process. I had them put a hold on my credit card for $525. They sent a replacement phone next day. I packed mine up and sent it back. I had to do this twice because the replacement after 3 weeks started getting dust again and i could tell the power button wasnt really working well also.
Now im a second owner of another N1. I traded my tmobile N1 for a ATT N1. woot.
You can also root the phone and put trackball wake on it....also, when the phone is off completely, the trackball WILL boot it - tested this myself today.

Honestly when my phone was off I tried booting by pressing trackball and holding, just pressing and nothing. How did you do it? is there a specific process? I already have trackball wake selected thankfully before this even happened.
Another question is, how in the hell would i get into recovery or any of those functions now?

[Q] Help my N1 won't turn on

Hey Guys I really need your help my N1 won't power on for some reason. I really need to get some things off the phone from certain software that I had in case I have to have it repaired or sent away. I'll try to be brief what happened I was exercising with my phone inside a protective case that covers the whole phone and I went to change the next song while listening to music and when i went to push the power button the screen remained black the whole time and I couldn't see anything at all the screen was black the whole time after numerous attempts at pushing the power button. So I held down the power button to try and reboot it and then the music stopped, so then I hit the power button again to turn it on and it hasn't turned on since yesterday. I even took the battery out and let it chill for a min and still doesn't work. when I plug it in to the charger the orange/green light comes on and as well with the USB connection too, but still can get it to power on.
Anyone have any Idea what it could be? I am assuming it's the power button but I am not for sure. Is there anyway to turn it on again in case i need to recover any files, etc. the reason i want to get it to work is that I don't want to have to go through the hassle of sending it away to be repaired if there is some way I can do it myself. I am trying to avoid sending it away with my carrier and I really need to access certain files on the phone if all else fails. If anyone has any ideas I'd appreciate it thnx to anyone.

Touchscreen does not work

hello, recently my phone's touchscreen does not work. Only when I initially turn it on, it will work until I turn off the screen or if someone calls, I am able to answer then the touchscreen works. Other than that, if I power on the screen, I cannot unlock it at all. I am currently using NAND version of Android on my phone and it have been perfectly fine for weeks. Does anyone have any clue? I have already tried to load a different version of the rom but still the same problem is occurring.
Could be a hardware problem. Send it back for repair.
This is a hardware problem. Send it back to HTC for repair.

Try turning on your screen with the other buttons beside the red end call one.
This happened to me, however, eventually, it stopped working whenever i pressed any of the other buttons to turn on the screen for touch to work also, so it's best to send it for repair while you still can.
For all of you having issues with screen freeze, here is my take. (Before I waste any of your time, I just want to say that I finally had to send it to HTC for repair) This is NOT a software issue but a hardware issue.
I have been flashing roms ever since HTC 8225 came out. I don't want to sound like an expert, but I am an above average user.
I have been using my HD2 for over a year. Then the screen started freezing out of the blue after it locks. Then I had to reboot it and it worked as long as it didn't lock.
Then I figures out that it started working when i awoke the phone by pressing the "BACK" button. So I kept doing that for a while till that stopped working. Then I figures out that if I tilt the phone sideways, almost like changing the screen to landscape, brought it back to upright position, and pressed the back button, it unlocked. However, this also stopped working after few days.
(I also tried to flash many different roms to make sure that this is not a software problem)
Finally the touchscreen stopped working altogether.
Then I called HTC to see if I was still under warranty. I thought I was way past the warranty period but HTC said that I was under the warranty. So I send in the phone for repair and it is on the way back from repair. I didn’t have to pay anything since it was still under warranty.
If your phone is under warranty, send it in for repair as soon as possible. Even if it works for a little while, it needs to be fixed.
I just wrote what I have learned by trying different things. When I flashed factory roms and the screen is totally unresponsive, I concluded that it is a hardware issue.
If you know better, share it with the community!
Thanks for the response everyone.
I have tried to turn on the phone using any other button but the red button and it works. But as most of you already experienced, it will probably get worse. I don't think my phone is under warrantee anymore so is there a repair kit for this?
I have worked on a handful of HTC phones but the HD2 is different. You need to use a soldering iron to remove the touch screen connection. I personally don’t like to deal with stuff like that! As far as a kit, I am not sure. There are videos on youtune which can walk you through changing the screen. Then again, I am not sure what needs to be changed. Is it the screen? Is it the digitizer or something else? Keep searching... Good Luck!
digitizer broken, send the HD2 for repair
Obviously, if you phone still falls into warranty period, reflash original stock WM
good luck

[Q] phone shutting down whilst screen lock

has anyone faced the phone switching off even when it's screen locked? This happened a few times to me.
1st scenario is when my phone is in a waist pouch which is a little tight for this model. when i take it out of the pouch, i either find it off or waiting at the sim unlock screen. this is caused by pressing the power button accidentally.
2nd scenario is after charging over night, i wake up to find the phone asking me to key in sim unlock pin (it will not be completely off because whenever charger is plugged in, it will power up). The phone was screen locked before i charge it and i did not touch the power button by accident unlike scenario 1.
which ever the scenario, by right the power off button shouldn't work whilst in screen lock right?
The same scenarios happend to me, sometimes more than once a day. Very annoying.
I too have this issue, especially the overnight charging one, which is annoying because then the alarm fails to go off!!! After convincing 2 other people to get the Trophy 7 they also experience this.
I called HTC support in the UK yesterday and all they could suggest to me was that I reset the phone settings, which I've done, and of course ended up needing to put all my settings back in which is extremely frustrating when I expect that it won't fix anything.
I really would recommend calling HTC support in your country and logging a call, because the guy told me that I was the first to report it.
You can get the phone numbers from the htc website, which i cannot post the URL to since I'm a new user, but I'm sure you can find it. Go to "Support" -> "Customer Service" -> "Support by hotline"
Of course, you could not call them to report the issue, but then they'll think that I'm the only user in the world with the problem and not actually resolve it!!! It's going to take you about 10mins and they'll keep talking to you about windows mobile 6.5, instead of windows phone, but the more calls logged = greater chance of resolution.
I've had the turning of when it's in my pocket, but i've never had it turn of overnight when charging.
at least not that i've noticed
Whilst experimenting with android on my touch pro from the very beginning when you couldn't enter a sim code, i've removed it and i'm to lazy to set a new one
All the problems (screen freeze of crazy dancing icons of phone shutting down) solved after FLASHING newest WWE ROM from this forum. Maybe helps, but U have to decide and do it yourself or not.
This has happend MANY times on my trophy aswell.. I ended up turning off the sim lock code (That way the phone starts up again after boot and your alarms etc works)
Yup, I've had the "pocket" thing also happen to me, more than once in the same day... quite frustating.
Qtek S200 (HTC Prophet) After ROM update, its now shutting down whilst in sleep mode
Sorry to dig up an old thread, but recently I upgraded my s200's ROM using the CD utility that came with it. Its now running Build 14928.2.2.0 of WM5.
Before the ROM update it has never done it once.
Some people said they got the problem when it went into lock screen, my lock screen is fine. It will only do it when the phone is in sleep mode, if i disable the "power off" timout setting then its absolutly fine aslong as i dont press the power button.
Did anyone ever find a solution to this problem?
Somebody did mention about flashing the rom from one of OS's on this site, but all the ones I have found contain dead rapidshare links.
Any help appreciated
Thanks
My solution on Trophy is simple, using a Casemate case on my phone. It makes the off button so stiff, that it's hard to shut off.
I guess I never realized why it was such a pain in the case to shut off... this MUST be the reason. Also, since I now have two Trophy's (one for developing roms), this other one I just bought has been through hell, and it's difficult to half press the camera button to focus. The Casemate case I have on my good Trophy makes it far harder to press the camera button, but my year old Trophy that I've always had doesn't suffer from any problems with its camera button.
This is the newer version of the Casemate case I was using on my HTC Trophy. I don't know if this will help you with your older phone, but maybe Casemate makes a case for it. Since it's an older phone, it will be difficult.
