I'm seeing news stories today about the Telus Samsung Fascinate 3G+ in Canada getting the 2.3.3 update officially.
Since the Telus Fascinate hardware is so similar to that of the Vibrant, this seems to bode well for the Vibrant getting the update as well.
If nothing else, the ROM probably would port to the Vibrant more smoothly than the I9000 ROM, I would think.
Check out this link.
What makes you think its more similar than i9000

From the Galaxy S Wikipedia Article: "The Telus Galaxy S Fascinate is very similar to the T-Mobile USA Galaxy S Vibrant (SGH-T959)".
Seams good, need some one to extract gps drivers and test if it works.
More to show that it is T-Mobile's fault

it wont work. Its cosmetically the same as the vibrant but the insides are identical to the i9000. The only thing that sets the vibrant apart from the other galaxy s devices is its hardware radio. It and the SGS4G are the only sgs phones that have 1700mhz umts/hsdpa. because of this they have to use a completely different radio that supports it.

Anyone knowing what this is for? I'm downloading the Froyo for
Mobile Phone SGH-T959D SGH-T959D_Opensource_Froyo.zip @ http://opensource.samsung.com/
google says the SGH-T959D is the telus fascinate.
That sux. They shouldn't use our brand code for something that different.
did you look at it? it's actually very similar to the vibrant.

The Radio however is that of AT&T though.
its the vibrant for the telus carrier i never heard of them they must not be a us company.
Telus is a Canadian company.
The Galaxy S in Canada was also released as the "Vibrant" under Bell, but its more similar to the i9000 then the t959.
Telus has it released as the fascinate, which is more similar to the t959 (in terms of design).
Both companies use the bands similar to that of ATT (i.e. 3G HSPA 850/1900/2100 MHz).
Actually, Rogers also uses the same bands and released the galaxy s as the captivate.
Funny thing is all 3 versions received the 2.2 update....BLAH!!!!
Vibrant kernel source. Cool. I'm pretty sure the t959 kernel is independent of what band the radio uses. Right?

Other then the radio module and FFC, they are identical phones.
Here is a section of a thread where a T-mobile user flashed the Telus rom and made some tweaks in the kernal to get everything working.

you could say the same about the i9000, or Nexus S for that matter, and look at all the problems...
UGH
I'm sick and tired of Samsung.
Could one not do a dif of the 2.1 source for the T959 and the T959D to see how different it is? Based on that the Froyo source should reasonably only be different for the same hardware and the code pertaining to it. If the kernel code for the two are the same at 2.1 there should be no reason to not use the 2.2 kernel.
A friend of mine has a Galaxy S 4G on T-Mobile. Willl i9000 ROM's work on this model of phone? I own a Vibrant and use i9000 ROM's but I wanted to check before I recommended this to him.
Thanks!
No. Absolutely not.
If it even flashed, that would be a one way ticket on the I/O Bus to Brickville.
Don't do it, not now, not ever.
LOL okay, message heard loud and clear.
Why does it work on my phone (Vibrant) and not the 4G? Are there major differences between the 4G and the i9000, where the Vibrant is similar to i9000

Uh the bell vibrant is completely different than the t-mobile vibrant. Looking at a picture would make this very obvious. The bell vibrant is the same as the i9000.

I didn't want to go solely by a picture, but good to know nonetheless.
A little confusing...Bell markets this phone as a Vibrant...but on XDA, the "VIbrant" sub-section (judging by the picture) is definitely not my phone.
It seems that the craze of Samsung Galaxy S II is not likely to get diminish in near future as yet another operator, U.S. Cellular is on the way to release its version of Galaxy S II in United States. This smartphone will be slightly different from other American variants in terms of its design and specs..........

A bigger battery is always good, but a 4.5" screen is probably a bit too big for wvga resolution.

Belongs in the Epic 4G Touch forums - US Cellular is a CDMA provider, and that combined with identical specs to the E4GT says this is just a rebadged E4GT.
This phone's model is SCH-R760 and it isn't 4G, just 3G so I don't think it can be thrown in with the Epic 4G Touch. Where should we be posting about this one?

Interesting. Probably it's an E4GT with the WiMax radio removed.
Well, it isn't out yet or Samsung is violating the GPL with it (no source code for the kernel posted), so it's hard to tell.
Thanks. It came out today and I have one so they are indeed violating the GPL. You are probably right though, it likely is the same phone minus that radio. I'm looking to root so I'm hoping I can use E4GT methods.
any luck??
Just wondering if you had any luck. bought mine yesterday and its rooted. im itching to try some custom roms, wondering.....
Still nothing for this phone? Are the R760 folks just SOL?

No. There just isn't an SCH-R760 forum on THIS site. Closest information you'll find is in the Epic 4G Touch (SPH-D710) forums, but they are still different phones, so don't flash any actual E4GT ROMs, unless they explicitly state they will work on the SCH-R760.
Google is, and always will be, your friend.

A quick perusal of the results I got seem to indicate that the results on the teamuscellular.com website are likely to be your best resource for this variant.
I have a skyrocket and both variants are the same for ATT and Rogers...will this be the same for the GS3?
Yes the model is slated to be i747 on both rogers and at&t. In fact Bell and Telus will have the same model too. Now there may be small differences such as the boot up screen showing Rogers ( I remember this from my Captivate ) but the models to the best of my knowledge are going to be the same and the roms/firmwares interchangeable

Yeah the att and rogers versions of the Samsung Infuse 4G were the same and they pretty much shared the same forum....

there isn't one so far but there is a thread that may be of interest to you:fingers-crossed:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1735482
Bell version is the same as AT&T regarding the hardware so it should be in the same forum.
Evantually everyone will realize that every SGH-I747M is the same and everything that works for one will work for the others. I have the first Galaxy S I9000m and I've flashed so much I9000 stuff you wouldn't believe it.
As long as the model number is the same the hardware is the same and you don't have to worry about carrier.
The only thing that will change is the modem software will be configured differently from carrier to carrier but as long as it's the same model number (I747M) it means the antenna inside is the same so you would still be able to connect even if you flashed an AT&T modem but reception might be little different.
I can't wait to get my hand on a GS 3. I should get it this week end.
