Open Source Froyo for Vibrant T959D (what is that) - Vibrant General

Anyone knowing what this is for? I'm downloading the Froyo for
Mobile Phone SGH-T959D SGH-T959D_Opensource_Froyo.zip @ http://opensource.samsung.com/

google says the SGH-T959D is the telus fascinate.

That sux. They shouldn't use our brand code for something that different.

did you look at it? it's actually very similar to the vibrant.
http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=2703&c=samsung_sgh-t959d_galaxy_s_fascinate_3g+

The Radio however is that of AT&T though.

its the vibrant for the telus carrier i never heard of them they must not be a us company.

Telus is a Canadian company.
The Galaxy S in Canada was also released as the "Vibrant" under Bell, but its more similar to the i9000 then the t959.
Telus has it released as the fascinate, which is more similar to the t959 (in terms of design).
Both companies use the bands similar to that of ATT (i.e. 3G HSPA 850/1900/2100 MHz).
Actually, Rogers also uses the same bands and released the galaxy s as the captivate.
Funny thing is all 3 versions received the 2.2 update....BLAH!!!!

Vibrant kernel source. Cool. I'm pretty sure the t959 kernel is independent of what band the radio uses. Right?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App

Other then the radio module and FFC, they are identical phones.
Here is a section of a thread where a T-mobile user flashed the Telus rom and made some tweaks in the kernal to get everything working.

you could say the same about the i9000, or Nexus S for that matter, and look at all the problems...
UGH
I'm sick and tired of Samsung.

Could one not do a dif of the 2.1 source for the T959 and the T959D to see how different it is? Based on that the Froyo source should reasonably only be different for the same hardware and the code pertaining to it. If the kernel code for the two are the same at 2.1 there should be no reason to not use the 2.2 kernel.

Canadian Vibrant

As you probably heard, Samsung decided to confuse us even more by launching a Canadian Vibrant on Bell Canada's network. That being said, will you guys be looking into rooting this one as well?
for those that are looking for a Euro-like Galaxy S. but with AT&T bands, keep a look-out for the Bell version.

Just use some random Postal Code. for example, search up some random sports arena location, and use their postal code
how do they differ
That's the i9000, not the Vibrant...

that's the Canadian Vibrant with the salme i9000 look but has AT&T 3G bands. I am thinking Samsung probably has one radio chip for all...instead of making different radio chips for different version. So, there may be a way to enable all bands in the radio. We were able to change bands in the service mode but on Tmo vibrant, the 850mhz 3G band is still not active.
I have my phone rooted using Ryanza's OCLF, worked no problem. The only difference i found thus far is the keys to get into recovery and download mode, well for my usage anyways lol

Galaxy S I9000 with ATT

I currently have a Captivate with ATT but would like the added features of the I9000 unlocked version, like front facing cam and the FM radio.
Will the I9000 work with the ATT network. I realize that there are a few differences in the bands that each use, but want the I9000 to work the same as the Captivate. 3g etc.
Anyone have anything on this?
thanks

I am currently using the i9000 on at&t with a new contract (still on my 30-day return policy for the contract). I still have some testing to do with it. One thing that is important to note is that the i9000 will only get 3g in areas with 1900mhz 3g, NOT the 850mhz 3g. Also, the i9000 will be a lot more expansive then the captivate.
edit: Gosh I hate typos.
oh...thanks..i live in the dallas area..ill check to see if we have 1900
if you are interested. Bell Mobility in Canada will release a version that looks pretty much like the EUR version
it is however still called the Vibrant
http://galaxys.bell.ca/
you will have to first unlock the handset before using it on another carrier

diffrence between this and the i9000 galaxy S?

hey guys
just wondering what the diffrence is between the galaxy S fascinate and the galaxy S i9000 is?
i cant find any direct comparisons.
can anyone please help me?
The i9000 is a GSM phone. Fascinate is a CDMA phone.
The i9000 also has an FM radio, we don't

i dont care for radios so no big deal there
i9000 has a Front-Facing camera I believe.
From a bit of research (i.e. Googling ) it would appear that Australia's CDMA network was shut down in 2008, and the GSM network became the only option. A CDMA-only phone won't work on a GSM network, and vice-versa. There are a few phones that support both CDMA and GSM (such as the Droid 2 Global), but most only support one or the other. It would appear that the Fascinate would be pretty much useless in Australia, although the i9000 should work fine if it uses the same set of frequencies as they use there.

The Fascinate is a CDMA phone. In the US, it's sold on Verizon Wireless. It has 384 MB of RAM in exchange for larger internal storage and camera flash. The Epic is a CDMA phone. It's arguably the best out of all of the US variants. It has a slide-out keyboard and six-axis accelerometer and Front-Facing camera and 5MP camera with single-LED flash. It's sold on Sprint. The Vibrant is closes to the original i9000. It's basically the same except that it has no front-facing camera (although the space to add one is still there) and it has 4 capacitive buttons on the front instead of the original 2. It's GSM. The Captivate is the same as the Vibrant except it's sold on AT&T and, by default, can't sideload applications because of AT&T's stupid restrictions.
The only differences are as many before me have said : Its a CDMA phone, It lacks a front facing camera, and It doesn't have the same amount of internal storage as the i9000 (we do still have 512 megs of RAM, the system only makes 3 something available to android like with all of the S variants). In your situation though it sounds like you'd be better off with an i909. Its basically the 9000 with both CDMA and GSM support but its only for the Chinese market so it may be a bit hard to come across (Ive been hunting for one for the longest myslf to no avail)
What about the Samsung Captivate?
If i got one of them would i be going from good to worse if i sell my Galaxy S i9000?
Really want a NextG and can get a Captivate for $599 ( NextG version )
Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought Samsung had a gsm model on the market. Isn't that what TelUs in Canada uses?

CDMA only works in the US. GSM is global. So don't worry about the features. make sure the device works on your network FIRST
If it's being sold in Aus it's probably the Telus Fascinate. OP, is the model # T959D (Telus) or i500 (Verizon)?
Both the Telus Fascinate and the AT&T/Rogers Captivate are GSM phones with the 850 band used for 3g down under. Only the Telus has HSUPA, though, so it may be slightly faster.

Not true. CDMA is in the US, Canada, and several countries around the world including Japan and even Australia, up until 2008.
However, with CDMA, there is no SIM card to switch and it's a ***** to switch networks and take your phone with you unless the new network doesn't care if you bring outside phones.
ok just called them up and its the TelUS version, so its the GSM version, and NextG will work
fascinate a good pick then after i sell my i9000?
also, they are trying to tell me this phone now
http://www.mobicity.com.au/samsung-vibrant-galaxy-s-16gb.html
is that good after selling my i9000?
Uh, no. The Bell Vibrant (i9000m) would be ok, but that's the T mo one which has different and incompatible bands.

it says GSM 850 which is telstra NextG
my god this mobile **** is pee-ing me off, its so hard
No it doesn't: look at the fine print at the link.
Just get the Telus.
The tmobile vibrant does in-fact support the 850 band when its unlocked (just search for tmobile vibrant on AT&T because I cant link it) so either model works
Edit: Or not i suffered from foot in mouth syndrome it only supports the 1900 band

You can unlock it yourself. There are apps on and off the market that will do it for you. Also, the T-Mobile version supports both T-Mobile's and AT&T's 3G frequencies.

No separate section for Moto Atrix NON-4G?

I can't seem to find a section for ATRIX. I don't like the idea of not having to stick with stock ROM and my HD2 is failing.. If you don't know, ATRIX is available in other parts of the world or at least in Singapore which is where I stay..

That's called an international Motorola atrix, and we have stuff for that.

Despite the name, there is no such thing as a "4G" atrix. Its only labeled such because the US carrier AT&T is calling HSPA+ 4G even though its not. Just make sure any tweaks or roms you install are compatible with the international version of the Atrix and you should be ok.

Telus Fascinate getting GB 2.3.3 update now

I'm seeing news stories today about the Telus Samsung Fascinate 3G+ in Canada getting the 2.3.3 update officially.
Since the Telus Fascinate hardware is so similar to that of the Vibrant, this seems to bode well for the Vibrant getting the update as well.
If nothing else, the ROM probably would port to the Vibrant more smoothly than the I9000 ROM, I would think.
Check out this link.

From the Galaxy S Wikipedia Article: "The Telus Galaxy S Fascinate is very similar to the T-Mobile USA Galaxy S Vibrant (SGH-T959)".
Seams good, need some one to extract gps drivers and test if it works.
More to show that it is T-Mobile's fault

it wont work. Its cosmetically the same as the vibrant but the insides are identical to the i9000. The only thing that sets the vibrant apart from the other galaxy s devices is its hardware radio. It and the SGS4G are the only sgs phones that have 1700mhz umts/hsdpa. because of this they have to use a completely different radio that supports it.
