My friend has a custom Captivate firmware not from AT&T. I was wondering, if there is something similar for the Vibrant? I notice that the T-Mobile really tried to make the Vibrant be an iPhone with their UI. Is there a way to get an original (custom) i9000 firmware with all working buttons and the 3g working? I see there are not as many choices for T-Mobile because of the lack of 3G bands. All the T-Mobile customization with this android phone seems to annoy me, from the T-Mobile boot splash screen to all the bloatware they put on this phone. I also read that I have to ask for the firmware here in the forums since it is T-Mobile USA.

For hacked Vibrant firmware on the XDA site, you need to look in the Vibrant Android Development forum.
I guess the correct term I was looking for is debranding the phone. I'll check out the link. Thanks
So, I was about to buy this phone and use it on At&t in the US, but as I was looking at the ebay listings, I noticed that some of them stated that It does not work GSM with at&t.
I'm not very tech savy, but I find hard to believe that such an advanced phone would have this problem. Can anybody that tested it, shine some light on this for me please?
Thank you
It has the hardware to support it but it's the software that verizon has locked down to not work with any other carrier in the USA
In normal gsm phones you simply need an unlock code for the phone to work with any other carrier then the one it's meant to work with but in this case even after you give the phone the unique code it still won't work with att or Tmobile in the USA so we are looking to see how to disable the lock on USA bands on the phone but it seems not many people have made much progress
Thanks for trying to help, but that is not what i'm asking
I know it works, but everybody says it doesn't work on 3G, just on EDGE.
here's the response I got from an ebay retailer
"This version will work on the AT&T GSM network, however, will not work on the 3G network, only edge.
Best regards,
Communication Telecom International "
AT&T uses 850Mhz and 1900Mhz for the 3G frequency bands and it does support it in the hardware as I was saying, its just that nothing at this point will work not even EDGE because the USA lock overrides anything AT&T uses.

You are confusing the Droid 2 Global with the Milestone 2. Two different phones here.
the milestone2 should have the right hardware to connect to att 3g sorry for the confusion
The Droid 2 Global and Droid Pro also have the hardware to support US GSM bands but it has been disabled in the radio. This is not software, so to speak, but rather hardware configuration.
If you know where to look you can fix this problem.

Don't hijack the thead!
OP asked about Milestone 2, not Droid 2 Globlal.
So - to address OP's question - yes - Milestone 2 currently on sale in most places is the EMEA model (Europe/Middle East/Asia), which has 900 and 2100 W-CDMA bands only.
Based on the official page from Motorola here, Milestone 2 A953 has a version with W-CDMA 850/1900/2100 MHz which are the bands used primarily in the Americas (850 and 1900) and Australia (850/2100). There was an article the phone is coming to Argentina before Christmas, so it may start showing up quite soon.
If you want US 3G support from Milestone 2, you have to wait for one of these to emerge. Sure enough it will not have any restrictions against US GSM/WCDMA operators (MCC 310) like the Droid 2 Global (currently) does.
I am not "messing". I cannot post external links of proof because I have too few posts.
I also do not wish to SPAM your forum out of respect for the rules.

thats sweet then I saw the video, I have a D2G and bought the phone for this purpose, where will the release be?
They inted to sell it as a servce. It definitely works...we were early testers and I have been trying to help them get the word out about it. These guys know what they are doing and what the value of this exploit is.
well sure but I'd like to know about it asap I've been stuck using this on wifi only :/
I'd pay about $10 for it

Those bast*rds!!! How dare they know what the value is and not give it away for free!!!
I am just kidding
People sell unlock codes all the time for like 15 bucks so should be no problem for people that have to pay for this exploit...wonder if it is the same one I found
This may not be the best thread to continue this discussion. My apologies for the hijack.
I am most interested in seeing what you have found, but from what little reading I have done in your threads it appears you are working in the system only and not modifying the radio.
If that is the case, then our exploit has nothing in common with yours.
Do you have any evidence of it working with US GSM bands on AT&T or T-Mobile?
Perhaps we should start another thread, but we will not be revealing the precise nature of our method for obvious reasons.
Our method makes no changes to the system and leaves no trace of itself anywhere that can be accessed on the device itself beyond the ability to use the US GSM bands.
sorry to interruput but i think this is the only way to talk to you unlocker but about what will the price be and where can we find more info about release dates and downloads etc.? i found you on twitter and asked a few questions but there still isnt much info
I have to modify system because in my ROM (Fission) the packages that handle sim card functions do not work without some "blur" components so thus the need to modify my system
I have pics and a vid ready to go for when I was going to sell my service. I am not trying to nor am I going to compete with you guys or from TBH. P3Droid and Gweedo have been nothing but really friendly with me and to be honest; I would rather not deal with the headaches that come with selling a service on this forum and/or many others. I already went through and going through hell for the way I handle Fission ROM Manager and really don't want any more of that crap...I would rather continue dev work on the ROMs and some other apps I have been working on
I won't get into how my method works for the same reasons that are very clear too but if you want to discuss anything in private feel free to message me or hit me up on Gtalk.
Did you guys release your method yet? If not when do you plan on doing so? I would like to prepare Fission for users who will need to unlock or do use their SIM cards...

Thanks Angdroid for ur hard work. Been following u for some time, hopefully u can release SIM package for D2G Fission soon.
Could anyone running Fission ROM try to switch to GSM mode from *#*#4636#*#* menu? I know you can switch to GSM from there on the original ROM without having to go to settings/wireless/networks/etc As it is standard Android tool, maybe that could be used to switch between the two radios until AngDroid figures out how to make it nice. Hope it works though.
Do you guys know when its coming out? i dont live in the us , so theres no use for 4g in here
lol, and there's no 4G here and we have a use for it. Not sure when the unlocked version is coming out. It's a sweet phone though, so I think it'll be worth the wait.
Don't worry, it's not actually a "4G" phone. It's HSPA+, which IIRC is widely available outside the US.
How about when is the Canadian Atrix released than one is named atrix not atrix 4g?
Marketing...AT&T probably has a copyright or a trademark on the name and since it's Motorola making the phone (US HQ'd company) they have to differentiate for different markets (just like Droid/Milestone).
This one is already a 4g less atrix
Ok ok so the whole 4g is marketing, but im talking about the global device , kinda like the miletone instead of the droid, an unlocked version, well in theory the atrix 4g would work here too , unlocked of course
It seems that the craze of Samsung Galaxy S II is not likely to get diminish in near future as yet another operator, U.S. Cellular is on the way to release its version of Galaxy S II in United States. This smartphone will be slightly different from other American variants in terms of its design and specs..........

A bigger battery is always good, but a 4.5" screen is probably a bit too big for wvga resolution.

Belongs in the Epic 4G Touch forums - US Cellular is a CDMA provider, and that combined with identical specs to the E4GT says this is just a rebadged E4GT.
This phone's model is SCH-R760 and it isn't 4G, just 3G so I don't think it can be thrown in with the Epic 4G Touch. Where should we be posting about this one?

Interesting. Probably it's an E4GT with the WiMax radio removed.
Well, it isn't out yet or Samsung is violating the GPL with it (no source code for the kernel posted), so it's hard to tell.
Thanks. It came out today and I have one so they are indeed violating the GPL. You are probably right though, it likely is the same phone minus that radio. I'm looking to root so I'm hoping I can use E4GT methods.
any luck??
Just wondering if you had any luck. bought mine yesterday and its rooted. im itching to try some custom roms, wondering.....
Still nothing for this phone? Are the R760 folks just SOL?

No. There just isn't an SCH-R760 forum on THIS site. Closest information you'll find is in the Epic 4G Touch (SPH-D710) forums, but they are still different phones, so don't flash any actual E4GT ROMs, unless they explicitly state they will work on the SCH-R760.
Google is, and always will be, your friend.

A quick perusal of the results I got seem to indicate that the results on the teamuscellular.com website are likely to be your best resource for this variant.
I've heard that Verizon phones, though "global" are locked from the US GSM frequencies.
I'm considering getting a Razr M and using it on StraightTalk AT&T or T-Mobile prepaid.
It appears the frequencies should be fine. 850/1900 UMTS/HSPA + GSM.
Anyone have any thoughts on that?
I'll need to trim the SIM down to MicroSIM size, and get the phone unlocked, but besides that...?

Well it's an atom processor not A15, lower graphics performance by far, less apps in the market and can't get it in White.

Righto-,thanks. I read somewhere else (maybe it was you?) that the NV settings in the radio block MNC 230 (tmo) and 150 (at&t). There was a guy who had looked all through them and couldn't find where it was happening.
Is this MNC blocking something that would be remedied by buying the Austrailian version? I want an A15 CPU + GPU not the Atom one, simply because I like sticking it to Intel, and because I like the white phone not the black one.
Does the developer edition work with AT&T/T-mobile? Maybe I'll just buy that. This phone certainly is slick. I hope whatever fix we get will let us keep the stock ROM, always a bit more exciting (and stable it seems, usually) to me than CM(X)

As far as I know, the Australian one will work just fine with AT&T or T-Mobile (no 3G on T-Mobile unless you're in a refarmed area, though). Worst case, it's locked to Australian bands, and you need to get an unlock code to make it work internationally. The reason the Verizon ones are locked for US bands is because Verizon doesn't want you buying their phone and then switching to their competition. Telstra obviously doesn't have the same problem, since they're not competing with AT&T or T-Mobile. Of course, what I'm saying isn't guaranteed to be true, since I don't have an Australian M myself (but I'm trying to decide whether to import that one or the RAZR i). I'm like 99% confident you wouldn't have any issues, though.
The developer edition does not work on AT&T or T-Mobile, either. We should be able to keep the stock ROM. That's how it worked on my Droid Pro and other Verizon Motorola world phones. We just flashed a file that modified the baseband. There was even a file to flash that would return the baseband to stock. ROM flashes didn't affect the baseband once it was modified.
What I'm wondering is if it may just be possible to take the Australian radio and flash it to the Verizon M to make it work on our GSM networks. That would pretty much disable the CDMA radios, but we wouldn't need them anyway. I think some of the previous phones have gotten around the band lock by flashing a Chinese radio, so it seems like the same concept could be used here. I'm nowhere near smart enough to know how to do any of this, though. All we can do at this point (well, me anyway) is just let Team Black Hat and other Motorola developers know that we are patiently waiting for a solution.
Looks like I wasn't far off with my hypothesis. If the community can provide the radio image, we should know pretty soon whether it would work on the M or not.

It also works on the stock unrooted and unlocked Dev device so it should work fine on the stock locked bootloader devices.
Right now it appears to break eHRPD authentication when using a VZW LTE SIM with AU radio image. GSM service is fully functional with no modifications except the AU radio.

I've been searching for a way to buy this awesome phone in a *truly unlocked* state (bootloader + carrier), and it seemed to be, before now, that my best option was to get the australian one (it also doesn't have the ugly verizon logo on the front But, it's very hard to get it from here in the US, so getting the verizon dev edition and reflash the radio may be better. I'm currently with T-mobile, yes I know about the refarm ... I'll deal with that.
So, does anybody have a link for said radio image? freak4dell, have you gotten yours and tried to flash the radio?
Thanks, you guys are awesome!

Nope, haven't gotten mine. I'm out of the country until mid-December, so I won't be able to get my hands on one until then anyway. I am keeping an eye out for deals, though, so that if I see a good price, I can buy it and have it waiting for me.

Let me know if you find a good deal (actually, any deal at all) for non-verizon razr m! I've also been looking on australian ebay, there are a few auctions for the telstra razr m, but they don't ship overseas...
But back to topic: are the image files in these two following posts any good to flash the radio, or do I need anything else, like a complete telstra fastboot image, or something like that (re-noob-alert: I'm a dev, but I've never messed with phones before):

Also, these being "official" and probably signed radios (at least I hope they are), do I need to unlock the bootloader to flash them?
Note: I haven't gotten any phone yet, just gathering all the pieces together before dropping the cash
Thanks anyone!

No need, I just ordered my razr m developer edition from motorola.com We'll see how fast I can void my warranty
Speaking of which: do I need to unlock the bootloader (and void the warranty) to flash the radio? My understanding is that, since it's signed by the manufacturer, it should work without unlocking the bootloader. That way I can use the phone for a while and return it if it has any problems. Does anybody know?
