Hi,
I have a xoom and always use it when tethered to nexus one. I am using the wifi tether built in to the os, not any wifi tether app. I get about 10% of the speed. I did a speednet test on phone and xoom tethered and I got about 3m down/1m up on phone and about 300k down / 100k down on xoom.
Any one knows if there is a tweak I need to do? I am using wpa for encryption.
Is the stock wifi tether slow and maybe I should try a market wifi tether app?
Thanks for any help.
Btw I am on cm7 nightly may 12 2011.
I tries wifi tether and it fails to initialise wife drivers.. so that didnt help.
Thanks

I have the same setup and not having any slow downs. Have you flashed a custom kernel or anything?
Yes. As indicated using cynagon mod 7. Are u stock? What version?
Thanks.
I'm using cm7, I was more curious if you had flashed one of the many kernels available or perhaps a kanged build based off of cm7 nighties which might have a different kernel baked in
Nope. Just cm7 nightly, currently on 165.

Does anyone know of a stock 2.2 kernel that will allow me to use the Wi-Fi tether app. I can not get 3G mobile hot spot to work for the life of me. I have changed the settings for it. If not do any of the custom kernels allow this?
Thanks,
Josh
King's Kernel best kernel... ever! O_O
-Can be found here-
wireless tether is not working on any build i try now. it worked a week ago on mdj 2.2 sense.
but no matter what build kernel combo i try, it will not work.
ive tried michy's nightly build cm6.1
hd2one
biffmod
mdj 1.6
and i dont even remember the others.....
i need some help.
just Task29'ed, installed 2.15.50 radio and newest (Oct13) VBN Rom. (TmoUS)
tried out all the roms available. and i STILL can not get ANY of them to tether.
tested with hasarin 8.2 (stock batt)
hastarin 7.7 (ext batt)
what can i do? this is really getting confusing, as i was able to tether not a couple weeks ago.
Wireless tethering is working with my setup. Try that one
I have wireless tethering working with Energy ROM and Laurentius 4.0 - and the android build is MDJ's HD one. Kernels with wifi working have been hastarn 7.2 up to 7.7 (stopped using at that point), and MDJ's S1-->S5.
It has all worked fine. Are you sure you are updating the wifi modules?
Bangsters 1.5 works perfect with rmnet connection. Great build too! Just use the recommended radio and rom that is in his post.

TRUST ME wifi tethering is working perfectly but 3g cutting on and off makes your tethering ability cut on and off get what im saying.
I was wondering, whats the fastest rom without sense that is able to properly connect to AD-hoc hotspots created by Connectify/Windows 7 hotspot creator?
CM7 worked great, but the latest nightlies are unstable, so I flashed imPROS and its great, but the wifi doesn't work there .

have you got the right kernal and radio for imPROS? I know some ROMS need different ones, have a look on the wildpuzzle thread for some and descriptions of them.

Ok, another on of my idiotic questions. Lmao. Which kernel for CM7 latest stable, offers the best functionality. Best wimax and 3G speeds and GPS settings. I want to oc up to 1.2 ghz kinda how stock cm7 does it. What kernels fit that criteria and r the best in ur opinions?

I'm using x99 clocked at 1.2max/460min and it runs amazing. Got 30 hours out of my phone the other day before I turned it off at 2%

You realize there is no reason for a 460 min clock speed

I used x99 with CM 7.0.3.1 and WiFi wasn't working so I went back to 7.0.2.1 but I want to upgrade back up. Which kernel works best with the 7.0.3.1 build?
If you're on the latest nightlies, stick with stock for now, a it's 2.6.35 kernel that toast compiled himself, and the other kernels are 2.6.32.

yeah, i would stick with the stock kernel if you're running nightlies. hopefully we can get some of the custom kernels updated to 2.6.35 soon.
I'm running x99's kernal on CM 7.0.3.1 and it's running awesome

Good to hear. Just flashed back up to 7.0.3.1, restoring my apps, and WiFi works now. I might use this stock kernel for a bit but may use x99's again. DL'd the one he posted for CM 7.0.3.1
Also, after I flash the ROM, I reboot, flash the kernel, reboot and then flash Gapps or do I flash gapps, reboot then flash the kernel? I get confused
It goes ROM -> GApps -> Kernel -> Theme
I have had the most success with the x99 kernels.
Great news!
CM 7.0.3.1 and x99 work flawlessly, better than before actually, and LPP works better now too (i.e., hitting home now actually drops down the notification bar rather than just flashing the date for a split second)
If I use the Google apps from the market using the installer in cm7 do I still need to flash the GApps? Just curious?
Sent from my PG06100 using XDA App
Gapps have to be flashed to get the market at the very least. Updating the nightlies though, it automatically backs up the gapps, so no need to reflash

No need for all the rebooting, flash rom, gapps, kernel..... ALWAYS flash kernel last.

I'm using the stock CM-7 but I want to add some more stable elements - wifi, 4g and insane battery power - from the nightlies, without flashing a whole new rom. any suggestions?
I want to ask can a kernel cause a screen disorder?
Why am i asking this (according to myself, stupid) question?
Because when I flash HCDR.Jacobs v4.1 or v4.2 kernel on any ROM it causes the screen to flicker and screen becomes snowy while turning on. And when i flash any other kernel, problem disappears.
And, by jacob, that kernel can be flashed to any ROM.
P.S. Can you tell me whats the best kernel according to you for wildfire (include link to the kernel thread please)?
Which ROM are you using?
If you are using CM7, stick with the stock kernel included in it. (nFinity by arco). It's the best one IMO, because arco has optimized it a lot for the Wildfire.
Jacob's kernel v4.2 may cause stability issues because it is clocked at 768MHz OC by default, and, many Wildfire's hang or are unstable at that speed. It's unlikely though why its happening in v4.1, but, in any case, its highly recommended to stick with the CM7 stock kernel as stated.
If for any other ROM, use this one. It's the same as arco's nFinity and Jacob's kernel, but, modified a bit to run on other ROMs

Kernel is something like a bridge between the hardware and software to communicate with each other. Eg: oc kernel allows overclocking.

hey, whats wifi n mode?
Wifi N is a type of wifi networking.
The WF doesn't have support of it afaik.
Which sucks, because my home wifi is n <-<

Thats funny as I'm connected to a WIFI N @150Mbps, which I find strange as the device isn't supposed to be capable of it.
I'm having problems at home, I need to use a pos app >-<
That sucks.

Which rom and which kernel are u using.
Have u manually added the network or does it detect automatically.

Did you have to adjust any settings to make it work? :/
N overclocking means???

We're talking about a wifi connection type, not overclocking...
