Anyone Having Rebooting Issues Lately? - Nexus One General

I've noticed my N1 would reboot randomly since a couple weeks ago. It's gotten progressively worse and not reboots at least once per hour.
- I've uninstalled any apps that were installed within the past 2 weeks.
- Original OTA T-Mobile Rom (non-rooted)
- Just use 3g(no wifi)
- Tried uninstalling other apps that maintain connection state.
- Shut down running services to a minimum.
It seems like others are having issues as well.

Anyone here having issues too?

no issues here, same OTA as you.
have you tried giving her a factory data reset?

I have also started getting this problem. I have done a factory data reset and the problem still persist. I tried swapping back the original sd card and no dice. I wonder if my ram is just going bad. I had that problem with my first N1. This would be my third N1 and it's now out of warranty so I'm boned.
It might just be a coincidence, but this has been happening since the new market rolled out to my phone. The market would force close a lot. This happened even after the reset and uninstalling the market update and letting it reinstall.
I'm running stock 2.3.4 not rooted on t-mobile.

Same issue here. It is very random. I have wiped till the phones raw with no luck.

I am having the same issue. I am rooted running cm7. The problem started about 2 weeks ago and while it has not been getting worse and the phone is still useable, it is definitely really annoying. I have wiped the phone but not the SD card and the problem persists. Will probably try going back to stock and unrooting but that doesn't seem like that's going to help at all. Seems to me that this must be a hardware thing. I called HTC and was told to hard reset and then add apps every few days to see if the problem recurs :-\

Same here with cm7 nightly. switched to fit's latest build and have not had a reboot for over 24 hrs.
EDIT: I jinx myself, right after I hit submit on this post it rebooted on me.

i'm on cm 6.1.0 stable and have been getting this lately as well.

This just started for me two days ago as well. It will reboot itself at least ten times per day. I have read on another forum that getting a new sim card could be the solution so hopefully I will have time to make it to my Tmobile store tomorrow to get a new one.

After being plagued with random reboots for months. Even complete wipes, sdcard format, different rom n kernels didn't help.
Then I replaced the 16gb microsd with a new 4gb and have not had a single reboot since.
I suggest u all try it out.

Me too
Mine started doing this too! Weird. I don't think it's an SD card issue. That doesn't explain why so many people are experiencing it at once. I wonder if it's a Tmobile network issue of some kind.

My Nexus One just started with this same issue. You should definitely keep the SD card in mind when it comes to the rebooting but my card turned out to be fine.
The one thing that I WOULD test is: take your SIM card out for a while and see if it reboots. Mine stayed booted for the whole night while I was sleeping, and I just swapped SIM's earlier today. So far everything seems to be working just fine.
(Less important info)
I have had that SIM since 2006 so it is very likely that the older sims can cause issues at that point for the new phones. The only reason I even thought of it was the lack of any error messages in the last_kmesg debug.

Assuming our reboots all have the same cause, I don't think it's a SIM card issue. My SIM is pretty new (about 18 months) and I have been able to stop the constant rebooting by switching off both 3G and WiFi except when I need them. It's not the ideal solution because I now have to manually turn on WiFi or 3G whenever I want to do anything data-intensive but it beats having the phone rebooting all the time for me.
It has been almost 3 days now since I went to mostly 2G and it hasn't crashed/rebooted once yet (crossing fingers). Prior to this, the longest uptime was 22 hours.

if you format card use sdformatter, not phone
wipe system also

I got my new SiM card midday today and there have been no more reboots since. I have been using the same SIM card since 2007ish and the T-Mobile rep said he could tell in his computer system after he looked up my phone number, it showed on his screen (the new one looks identical physically). He said it was an old 2G card, and gave me a card he called a 3G card - he said they've only been giving them out and coming with new phones for the last six months or so. I don't know how much truth there is to that salesman's explanation but that's what he said. I'll report back in a few days if my reboot problem is truly solved or not but so far so good.

I too am having random reboots as others describe (since about 2 weeks)
I have been flashing CM7 nightlies consistently for months before (and since)
I have tried reformatting (SDFormatter) and re-partitioning (4096/0 then 2048/0) still no luck. Next tried retrograding to back to Nightly 161 (no luck) then to CM7 RC1 (gapps 20110613) still no luck.
T-Mobile (USA) SIM card is about 18 months old (same age as N1 purchased within 5 minutes of original release .... ok I'm a fanboy
Sure would like to figure this one out ........ this N1's gotta last until Nexus Prime's available

Could the recent reboot problem be related to google pushing the out the new market? That's when my problems started.

I uninstalled, then Titanium Backup "froze," the Market Update(r) since the reboots started. No improved results, but I will try it again (in case you are on to something).

By the way, here's a thread about the problem on Google Mobile Help. Might help if we banded together or at least are aware of each other's existence: http://www.google.com/support/forum...c2&hl=en&fid=3f6f936e159bccc20004ab2f835ecbbc

Ahh, glad to see a thread here as well.

The discussion here with an Android Framework engineer implies it might be radio issues:

Last night I changed SIM card with an old fully-depleted prepard card and had 13 hours of no reboots (I am looking at Settings>About Phone>Status>Up Time for that data).
Plugged in the old SIM card this morning and am waiting for a reboot (none yet after 1:23:00).
Anyone notice the following commit on next CM7 nightly version?
"LGEStarRIL: Fix state trackers (android_frameworks_base)" ?
Comments say it deals with telephony. Any chance it is related to this issue?
Edit - went to Tmo and replaced my SIM card (I was told it was an "old one"). Let's see if that makes random reboots go away ! (almost 3 hours up time as I write this)

Cingular 8525 odd issue and locking up.

I had my Cingular 8525 for over a year and never had a lock up or screen of death until few days ago.
I been using Hard-SPL v7 and vp3G 6.x.x+ but recently I tried installing 6.1 then experineced memoray loss or drain that I have to keep resetting it often so I went back to vp3G.
When flashing rom in the past I would click Auto Detect on RUUWrapper since I have Hard-SPL v7 installed and it would detect the Hard-SPL and select the Hard-SPL, but after flashing 6.1 and going back will only give me an "error can't query device" so I manually select the Hard-SPL and it would flash fine with my manual selection.
Now I been going back and forth between the vp3G and varity of 6.1 roms by manually selecting the Hard-SPL in RUUWrapper since it could no longer query my bootloader but now I notice my device is locking up on it own that I am reseting almost every hour or so.
So thinking maybe bootloader problem I reflashed Hard-SPL v7 and no improvement so I reflash factory ROM using Hard-SPL and RUUWrapper but still no improvement and then reflash back to vp3G but it still locking up daily.
Strangest thing is that I know when it going to lock up because the 8525 would be sleep and LCD power off but it will wake up on it own and lock up LCD staying on all the time but frozen that it would drain my battery quickly so I have to reset it and recharge it if I didn't catch it earlier.
I check info 8 and no bad blocks at all on it.
Any idea what may be causing this lock up? I am hoping it something I can fix before thinking about buying a new PDA.
Thank for all your inputs and replies!
Bill
try flashing back to stock rom then to rom of choice. theres been a lot of people saying this helps.. Hope it helps you too..... cheers
Just one or two other things to consider:
1
Had you done the fake server trick to stop Acive Sync starting on your old set up? May be worth doing it again if it is Active Sync auto-starting that is causing the crashes.
2
I assume this does not haappen at exactly the same time every day. If it does then some alarm or notification may be the cause. Otherwise think about whether there are any self starting / synchronising apps installed - typically weather checkers, mail (push / pull, time sync etc etc.

Yes I have flashed back to stock rom (latest 8525 rom from HTC site for AT&T) but I couldn't flash it with it own romupdate because of the Hard-SPL so I took out the RUU_signed.nbh and flashed it with the RUUWrapper then tried it for a few days but it still locked up.
I have not try putting the bootloader back to stock yet because I didn't think it would made any difference.
I have reflashed it back with VP3G now and so far it only locked up once in the last day so maybe it stopped doing it. I am not sure yet.
I am thinking if it lock up again to flash the stock bootloader back on it before flashing stock rom with it own romupdate. Do you think that will help any?

I don't have any alarm or notification enabled for anything but incoming txt or emails. I am using Active Sync to check my email on the exchange server but I been doing this for over a year with no problems until the lock up issue recently.
I am still showing no bad blocks on info 8 so I am puzzled what may be causing the lock up but right now I have flashed it back to VP3G rom and only locked up once so far for a day and it seem to be working now without lock ups. I hope it stopped now but I sure wish I knew what was causing the lock ups.
Bill
I spoked too soon and jinxed myself, it still locking up .. rats!
Anyone know if it can be the Hard-SPL v7 bootloader causing the lockups?
I am not really wanting to flash it with oringal bootloader cuz I know anytime you flash bootloader you run a risk of bricking it.
Thanks
Bill
What about battery? The battery is orignal and over a year old but it still seem to be holding charge and charging fine thou.
Anyone experience similar issue and it turn out to be bad battery?
Bill
Would keeping it plugged into the USB slot so that it continually charges and provides ample power be a way of isolating the battery?
I had this happen to my old iPAQ 6365 before, one of the batteries, after about a year of usage, started to cause my iPAQ to lock up randomly. Switching back to the original HP battery solved it.

I removed the Hard-SPL today and went back to latest stock rom RUU_Hermes_CINGULAR_WWE_3.62.502.3_6275_1.54.07.00_108_UOOS_SVN05_Ship .. it errored out while flashing and I was still in tri-mode screen so I restarted the computer and reflashed then it went all the way and device restarted but wouldn't boot past after that flying AT&T signal bars so I hard reset it and it went all the way installing the AT&T customization stuffs.
Now I am running on stock rom and stock bootloader so I will see if it still lock up. If it does then I am either gonna try upgrade or get another battery somewhere.
Do Wal Mart or Best Buy or any major retailers sell 8525 batteries? I know they sell some certain model PDA and cell phone batteries but not sure on 8525 thou.
Thanks
Bill
i doubt you will find a battery in walmart or bestbuy. your best bet would be an at&t store, but that too might not be so certain, as the 8525 has been phased out. check the accessories subforum, plenty of threads there on batteries.
It seem to be the media "storage" card that was causing it to lock up randomly because after I reflashed it back to stock bootloader/rom it contiune to lock up randomly until I removed the media card to get it ready to have it check out at the store and it stopped locking up randomly and worked all day long today without a problem. Even the memory leak issue I was having stopped as well too.
Strange that I don't have anything install on the storage card other than just photos or pictures I been taking with my phone and some software I storage in there but not an application installed or anything like that.
I put the media card back in and damn thing got wiped completely. Oh well I lost some pictures but not a really big deal however it is strange that the media card got wiped when I tried to test with it again. Media card still works allowing binary files to be stored in it. I am going to leave it out for now since I don't really need it and only use it to store stuffs and pictures.
I wonder if WM 6.1 rom did something to the media card that going back to older WM 5 or 6 rom didn't like it and keep locking up and have memory leak issue. Maybe some new format on media card?
Just strange but I am happy that the phone last all day long without a hicup so far and I probably just jinxed myself tomorrow by posting this ha!
Bill
Ah great to hear you found the problem without having to spend some money and result in a spare battery.
But you'll probably still need to shell out some for a new memory card. I remember reading somewhere that Kingstons give the least problems. Is yours a Kingston? Might want to consider getting a new one just to see whether it's the old card giving way.
The worst scenario now would be some component in the whole circuit related to the microSD card slot starting to malfunction..
3 days now and no lockups or soft resetting! So the problem was caused by the media "storage" card.
It is a SanDisk 2Gig brand and I probably will try using it again since it been working fine for over a year.
Otherwise I'll probably just find whatever media card I can get locally like at Best Buy or Wal Mart so I could refund it if it turn out to be the internal storage card circuit not functioning or causing the lockup when there a media card in it.
If the internal circuit inside is busted then Ill just keep using the phone without a media card until I feel the time to upgrade it with something better.
I am hoping my 8525 will hold out and keep working until that Sony Ericsson is released as long I don't have a media card in it.
Bill
It been over a week now, no lockups or soft resetting!
Even the slow memory leak I was having is gone too.
Strange that a media card was causing all this problem for me, I haven't try to get another one yet or put my old one back in since I was busy and didn't really want to jinx myself after having a whole week of problem free Hermes.
I wanted to share it with all of you so if your experiencing a lock up or memory leak that seem to be coming from nowhere, try removing your media card and use the phone for a day without it to see how it is.
Bill
I am having similar problems with my 8525.
I have downgraded to ATT stock 6.0, and stock bootloader.
I have removed the memory card, even tried a different battery.
Smae problem, the phone locks up within a few minutes.
I have kept on charger, same problem. I have reflashed several roms, currently at ATT 6.0, with no memory card installed.
Example:I reset phone at 7:52, it worked until 7:58( I know this because that is where the clock is currently frozen) and I am typing this message at 8:22.
This is average....
This problem has started in the last week. I had been using Schaps 4.31 for Hermes for the last couple of months no problems until a week ago.
Any ideas, phone is month out of warranty.

Problem solved, kinda
I called Cingular/AT&T
Shared my problem, I got lucky talking to a very help CS person, long story short, they sent me a brand new Tilt(not refurbished & they threw in a new case and car charger) for free, even though my warranty had expired.
Its not even Christmas!
I will be moving up to the Kaiser boards now, thank for the help.

HD2 Freezing Problem among others!

1- Hello guys, I have an T-Mobile USA HD2. I love it but it freezes like crazy, 2-3 times a day if not more. I ran Task 29 to delete every possible trail of previous roms followed by a hard reset but nothing. It will still freeze.
2- I also have a lot of signal problems. Its constantly changing from 3G to Edge on the same location. I know that is not normal so I spoke to T-Mobile and they changed the SIM card but it will still change the signal back and forth. I re-flashed couple of radios but nothing, I only accomplished to drain more battery.
3- BSB Tweaks is an awesome app but there are issues with the Rotation Option. If I enable Rotation to the "Start" -> "home screen" the photo album and music will be affected because the already come with landscape support. I tried to disable the landscape support for these using a registry editor but did not find a way.
Is there any solutions for these problems? Any help will be very much appreciated, not only from be but as well from others with the same or similar problems. Thanks in advance to all of you.
Note: I noticed the recently released TMUSA HD2s come with a yellow reset button. I bought my back on March when they sold out Nation wide with in the firs 4 hours and it comes with a RED reset button. This might explain a lot. If you know something please share. Thanks!
I would like to know if there is help for freezing issue.
I also did Task 29, flashed few different radios, few different roms incoluding stock, and it still happens. If my phone freezes I have to try for 20 minutes to restart it, as it hangs everywhere starting with bootloader, to manila.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!
I had a similar issue as well and it turned out to be a cab file I had installed that was not compatible for my ROM. I had to go through and isolate which cab it was by using the date it was added and when I noticed the issues.
When your phones freeze....does it do it radomly or while trying to access or carry out anything specific. Your problem could be caused by any number of reasons but giving as much detail regarding your problem keeps you from getting so frustrated trying all sorts of fixes. Out of curiosity what ROM's are you both currently running?
I am currently using Elegancia ROM from August 23. Before I was using Energy ROM. I tried newest, stock Rom for T-Mobile HD2 but it didn't solve the issue.
I tried reinstalling HSPL, but it didn't help either.
The problem started after I put Ubuntu 0.2 on my sd card. I was playing with it for a little and it suddenly rebooted my HD2. I though, OK, no big deal, it's just in infant stage.
So I booted Windows again (energy rom with 2.12 radio) but it hanged while Sense was loading. I wasn't able to get it back to life after few reboots so I did a hard reset (vol up/down power on) It worked fine.
My problem mostly happens when I run android and when it reboots for some reason I can't get back to windows. It hangs, sometimes it hangs on bootloader before it even shows me radio and data version!! sometimes it goes past bootloader and hangs right after sense launches, and sometimes it is perfectly fine.
It also seems that when I just use WinMo it is fine, I can power down, and soft reset without major issues. But after running android I get that issues, especially when Android crushes.
I am thinking that android may be corrupting some WinMo files, but how is that possible? Android doesn't have access to NAND so technically it shouldn't prevent WinMo from booting on bootloader level.
Please let me know if you need me to explain more.
Thanks for your help
KML
PS. I don't have any custom cabs installed at this point. I have super fresh and clean installation of elegancia rom
Yeah...Android may be the culprit. I have shyed away from trying it because I have talked to quite a few people (not on XDA) that have tried it on the HD2 and they have the same issues. The Android OS really makes the HD2 unstable. I personally am going to hold off on the Android bandwagon until a little more time passes, after all WinMo works just fine for me. Try just running on WinMo and see what happens. Based on what you have said, it runs fine as long as you are not using Android
yeah, it's is good idea to stay away for some time. But Android development needs testers. If no one is willing to test than there will be no improvement.
What I can't understand is that even after I do hard reset I still get freezes.

Yeah I agree with you on Android development needing testers. I do rely on my phone a lot for work purposes and I can't always afford to have the phone freezing up constantly.
Are you hard re-setting with the Android OS still installed?
Technically it is still installed but it is only present on the SD Card, and not anywhere else so it shouldn't matter. Next time I get freeze I will try to remove SD Card before hard resetting.
I tried booting few times with SD Card taken out, but it didn't help.

I have the same issue...i'm using energy rom and i noticed that lately its freezing like hell...at least twice a day...!! NRGZ already notice the freezing issue and is trying to solve it...but it still crashes. I'm constantly changing the rom as he updates...and right now i'm running the August 25.
Sometimes it crashes while being turned off...and i need to take the battery off to restart.
I had the same issue, all i did loaded a diff rom and formatted my sim card problem solved
I did format my SD Card many times. Did not help. I used recommended FAT32.
Yesterday my phone froze when I was trying to add program shortcut to Sense... silly.
I rebooted phone, it booted fine, but hang as soon as I went to check my TXT messages. Rebooted again and it is working fine until now.
I currently have Elegancia ROM with 2.12.50 radio, have not been using android for couple of days, but it is still there on my SD Card.
It is getting a bit frustrating. I wonder what else I can try to make it stop freezing.
KML
My phone rebooted again yesterday.
I couldn't boot to windows for the next 20 minutes... I tried about 10 times before it worked. 2 or 3 times it booted windows and froze as soon as I clicked on one of sense tabs.
I haven't played with Android for past week and the freezing problem is still an issue. I even removed andorid form my SD Card.
When all this happened I was just using skyfire to browse internet.
I am hopeless at this point. I have no idea what else I could try to make it stop rebooting and freeezing.
Any ideas?? I would greatly appreciate any help.
PS. I recently found a thread about a tool that searches for corrupt files on Android devices after clean flash, is there something similar available for WinMo?
Here is the thread I am talking about:
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/fixflash-rom-flash-verify-and-repair-tool/
screen doesn't respond to touch
I just started having this issue today. I have used darkstones most recent build from the 18th. it has worked perfectly till today. I use energy roms. i just installed a older rom today still have the same problem. this problem appears weither in droid or winmo. All the hard keys still function and the phone can receive calls. Thanks for any help you may be to lend.
my phone just froze again.
All I did was take it out of my pocket and unlock screen, and there it is: FREEZEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Funny thing is that Android doesn't freeze for me... it crashes sometimes, but never freezes. It is only WinMo that freezes on me or doesn't boot. Android always boots.
I really wish the NAND was accessible so I could flash Android to NAND and forget about WinMo

you, me and 17,000+ HD2 owners are all wishing for that exact thing
Your issue with the freezing/rebooting is stumping me too. You've flashed different ROM's, including stock, done hard resets, checked the battery pins, reformatted the SD card and even tried running the phone without the SD card inserted...do I have all that right? The fact that it doesn't show the symptoms when running Android just makes it that much more mysterious. I'd say it all points to a hardware issue, but if it doesn't act that way when you're in Android, that (probably) shoots that theory out of the water. But, at the same time, running task 29 and reflashing different ROM's should also have eliminated any possible software-based causes, so....
the only thing that comes to my mind is micro SIM card. I did an upgrade on my ATT account to get iPhone (traded for HD2) and those fu...ers at ATT wouldn't let me keep my regular sized SIM card. I had to use my old SIM card and cut it's inside to place micro sim in it. I used a regular sied SIM to hold micro SIM in place.
I don't think however that this is a problem because I believe my phone froze few times before I did that SIM card swap besides, I have no issues with phone calls or reception both in Android or WinMo.
I am clueless at this point.
I just got another Android version and will try it to see how it works. If I have any problems I will try using my wive's SIM card to see if it helps with freezing and WinMo booting.
KML
EDIT: ANDROID just rebooted itself. 2 minutes after clean installation. geee, I am leaning towards Hardware being the issue.
What I did is:
1. open browser
2. go to google
3. search for speedtest
4. open speedtest.net
and Android rebooted itself and now my phone can't go past Tmobile bootloader logo (pink square with 'stick together' letters)
I will put different SIM inside now and try everything again

Good call, that's about the only other thing to try. However....have you tried running WM with sense disabled, to see if it still has the freezing/rebooting issues? That might at least narrow the problem down to something sense-related (which is easily the most common cause of any software-related issue on this phone)

I have NOT tried that but I will. The problem is that I often can't get past bootloader logo...
I modified my post above so please read it (I mentioned Android crashing)
thanks for all your suggestions
I just tried different SIM card. Phone booted fine to WinMo, and froze as soon as I clicked on Messaging tab in sense.
I will try to disable Sense for now.
I disabled Sense, rebooted WinMo launched Android repeated operation of trying to get to speedtest. Site launched, but phone rebooted after a while.
I am getting to conclusion that some software including flash causes my phone to reboot and then I can't get it to boot again..
Right now my phone is stuck again on bootloader. I already tried rebooting twice.
What I noticed is that every time my phone freezes it gets a little warmer in the lower left corner
What hardware is located in that area?

[Q] Nexus One Random Reboot Crash (logcat)

Hey all.
Been having problems with a Nexus One that crashes at seemingly random times.
I have been unable to pin it on anything, and am asking your help.
It appears to be independent of the Rom installed, whether there is an SD card present, or whether its connected to a USB cable or phone charger.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Phone Info:
Nexus One (AT&T model)
Radio: 4.06.00.12_7
Current Rom: Enomther's TheOfficial Nexus1 - v2.12.2
Provider: Rogers (BC, Canada)
Logcat output attached as screen capture image.
This has been reported by a few users. I sent mine in for repair and got it back not repaired - they couldn't replicate the problem.
My case has been escalated which means a HTC guy called and asked me a few questions and then told me to wait for an email (a few days ago).
I believe my problem started when I seriously overheated it ... driving with navigation on, 3g downloading maps and traffic data, car charger plugged in all on a very hot day on a very hot dashboard. This was the first reboot and they got more and more often after that. Now I can't run anything for more than 5 minutes if 3G or wireless is on (in 'Airplane' mode I can run for quite a while without a reboot).
mine was doing the same thing.
getting progressively worse until the phone was basically unusable earlier this week.
I was running CM6 at first when it started happening.
installed the newest nightly and it worked better for a bit then got even worse.
uninstalled the stand alone version of gmail from the market and it worked for a couple hours and then kept rebooting on me.
finally i did a factory data/cache wipe and installed a rooted stock rom and things have been working PERFECT for over half a week.
I had the same issue. first reboot happen when i had nav running plunged in then after a few months utube , browser etc would restart my phone. it didn't matter which rom i used or stock. I sent it in and they fixed it. i had issues with htc but it got fixed.
Yup, same here, strange thing is it isn't a complete reboot. Hard to explain but what happens is i'll touch the phone and then it will immediatly go to the CM6 boot logo, then immediatly to the lock screen, (which I have disabled) then to my normal desktop. Total time elapsed maybe 5/6 seconds, wierd.
A normal reboot usually takes about say a minute or so. just started happening 3/4 days ago, and happens maybe twice a day at most, some days not at all. Probably wait until Cyanogen includes 2.2.1 into 6.0.0 stable then reflash.
Ive been having the same problem for about a week now, but I'm still using stock, not rooted. Its weird, because its a really fast reboot. It goes to the Booting X, for about 6 seconds, then it boot up just fine. I cant understand it.
this really sucks
I am keeping my ATT nexus one around for gingerbread but these random reboots are really killing me....I use the phone for five minutes and it just reboots by itself....The phone runs really well for those five minutes...Ive done five factory resets but it is still just doing these phantom reboots.... Anybody find out anything more about this...or know a fix....the phone is not rooted and it is clean stock froyo...so please help or keep talking about it so htc will address this issue lol which i doubt since this phone is starting to become ancient....(cant wait till nexus S) =P
With regards to the original problem posted, I believe I've managed to diagnose it correctly.
The problem lies with faulty heat distribution. The phone would crash and reboot more often in times of great stress:
charging the phone (heats up the battery)
running many applications at once (heavy system load)
navigation (heavy dataand gps traffic, image processing)
This coupled with the fact that changing the OS did nothing to remedy the problem solidified the notion that the problem was hardware based.
Given this, I contacted HTC Nexus One support and had the phone repaired.
Note: HTC will honor the warranty and fix hardware issues for an unlocked Nexus One. With software issues, you're on your own (for obvious reasons).
This is exactly what my phone is off to warranty for. I experienced this with every rom tried. I wipe my phone completely and put stock froyo on only to see the exact same behaviour...so at least I'm not crazy
The tech told me it was a hardware problem so that is a bit of a mind ease.
It seems Nexus One and Desire are really similar: HTC Desire rebooting on its own.
P.S. It's a problem with faulty motherboard, if you're within warranty, it should be replaced.
I also have been pleasantly experiencing this issue with the nexus one, so i sent it for repair at HTC and they have said it is an issue with the motherboard and it has been replaced, it is now in the post so I will update this post when I receive it to whether the problem is resolved. Hope so was driving me crazy!
The log did not capture the error. In most cases its a software issue, not hardware. (has happened to me too, not recently though)
Well an update as promised.
I received my N1 back after UPS had finished not dispatching it due to "Adverse weather conditions" and the issue is GONE!!! I know a week isn't really a long time to trial the device but this was happening several times a day.
HTC replaced the motherboard.
My advice to anyone having this problem, is to send it to HTC for repair (dont be worried about it being rooted/custom ROM etc mine was and because its a known hardware issue they really aren't bothered about it.)
It took two trips to HTC for them to finally address the issue. They did fix something (they didn't say what) and the problem is gone.
I believe it was the motherboard because Swype Beta decided that it was a new phone and not the one I registered (so it would not install).

memory card number 6 has died

The Desire HD has got to be the best phone I have ever had, however I have now lost six memory cards to it.
I am running on the 1.32 version, as I've not upgraded the firmware since hearing some of the horror stories. I'm running the stock rom, and I'm always very careful when connecting my phone to the PC or removing the memory card (I.e I always make sure I unmount it first, etc).
I'd lost five memory cards when they came up saying it had been unexpectedly removed. There didn't seem to be a pattern. I returned the phone and got a new one after the third card, since last night I've now lost another three the same way.
The strange thing is that my friend also bought the same phone, two months after me, and has had the same problem (although has only lost two so far).
Does anyone know what else might be causing this? Any software that might be causing it? I've noticed that one or two of them have died shortly after I've taken a picture or video (like last night, for example).
I have tried to restore the memory cards by trying them in a PC, but it won't even let me format them to start over again.
I love this phone to bits, but I can't keep losing memory cards like this. There must be some reason for it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Wow that is crazy! I've had the phone for around 3 and a half months and I'm still rocking the 8GB that came with the phone. If it's software related flashing a newer rom could fix it.
I would suggest a custom rom since I've been pretty much running LeeDroid a few weeks after I got the phone and recently switched to CM7 and I never had this issue.
Flashing is pretty much straight forward, the chances of bricking are ... well I haven't heard of someone bricking a DHD. If you just follow the steps it won't take long and if you don't
read up enough the worst that could happen is a headache
Also, what kind of sd cards were you using? Brand/Size/Class?
I lost my 8gb card which came with my DHD the other day too. That was my first loss since I got the phone in October last year. The card can't be read on any other device either.
If it is software related then I would like to know so I can try to do something about it.

What are you guys doing with the cards? Is this happen during normal usage with the card inside the phone? Or after removing the card from the phone and use it somewhere else?
bye

Sounds like flashing a custom ROM might be an idea. I have used a mixture of Samsung and Sandisk cards, all have been 8GB.

I'd also be interested to know what, if any, software could be causing this.

With both me and my friend, the cards have been in the phone all the time. The only time I've tried to remove it was to see if I could recover the files on a PC.
Also, like I said, a few times it seems to have occurred after taking a video or picture. In fact the second time I had one die, it seemed to be one particular HD video causing it, and once I had deleted the file by going through the PC, the memory card worked fine again.

The same thing happened to me. (mp3 instead of video) Android seems to be pretty picky about corrupt or somehow malformed files I guess.
Sort of leaves me wondering where I go from here.
Even if I replace the memory card, I'm on edge the whole time as to whether it's just going to die on me again!
Where did you get the memory cards?

Most premium memory cards these days, come with 5yr minimum guarantee try returning one of your dead cards to the manufacturer and see what they say? Personally I have never had an issue with my card and had a DHD from november but I have run custom ROM's (mainly CM) since root was achieved.
Ive had the DHD since the first week of uk release, im 3 cards down myself
No dead SD Cards here.
2 months on stock, 4 on custom roms

Same until the card died in my phone it has never been taken out by me, it arrived with the card in the phone on arrival and till last week its stayed there.
I have no idea what went wrong, I went to sleep after using it the night before. I woke up and the phone was sat at the sim pin prompt (so obviously failed in some form over night) when I checked my SMS later in the day they were all gone so I tried to restore from SMS Restore and it failed to find the file on the SD card. When I looked into it more I realised the card was dead.
Tried it on my laptop and work PC, AND my HD Camcorder and it does not register in any of them, its as if the controller on board the card has died rather than it corrupting the data on it.
Cant say I am impressed at the moment, I have the notification bug for SMS, it keeps removing the SMS database, failed to lock onto WiFi in some occasions unless I disable then enable wifi, and now its destroyed a microSD card. Think I shall be off back to an iphone next.
Hi
Have any of you having SD Problems, tried booting to Recovery> Fix Permissions, or used Rom Manager> Fix Permissions.
Take Care
TheQuest
Had mine for 5 month now, and still using the original SD. No problems.
Mine has now chewed through two memory cards however I have come to expect random things from my desire

I've had my memory cards from various places. I had the one that came with the original handset, and then when I had my phone replaced HTC gave me another one with it.
Since then I've also purchased the rest from stores, and even two of them were the more expensive higher quality ones. All gone.
I have noticed this morning that I am able to access the card through my PC. The first three times I put it in, I got a message saying that it couldn't access it, and would need to format it. The fourth time I put it in, it's opened everything as normal. When I put it back in my phone, it comes up preparing SD card, and then a few seconds later says it's unexpectedly removed again.
Those that haven't had card issues, are you running a custom rom? If so, what do you think the best choice would be, and would it affect the normal day to day operation with things like use of the Android Market, etc?
My phone is stock and no customization.
Not sure what the correct route would be as the cards have been destroyed by our devices so would this be covered under card warranty?

[Q] Start Screen gone (only time, batt and GSM viewable)

Hi
I flashed my HD2 with yuki's WP7 ROM (thanks to him and all of you who made this possible!). I updated my phone to the latest build (incl. ISV beta cleanup). This was some time ago, but yesterday, the phone once crashed, rebooted, and now i don't see the start screen anymore. After the phone is booted, i do see the time and the batterystatus, as well as the GSM-Indicator. But i don't see any tiles! I can receive phone calls, i can shut down the phone and start it again, but the start (home) screen is just empty.
Anyone has an idea, about how to fix this? I tried installing some tile-cabs from the yuki-thread, but no success.
Need help please.
Thanks.
Martin
I've suffered the exact same problem - same ROM too.
I got tired of it after the third re-flash in as many weeks that I decided to change the SD card (was using the 2Gb card that came with the HD2).
I put in an 8Gb card (also from a HD2) and haven't had a problem since - fast, stable and really happy with how it's behaving (although bluetooth still sucks the battery like it's going out of fashion, but that's another story...).
Hmm, too bad. Thanks for your reply.
I did a few reflashes the last few weeks also, sometimes i was totally stucked with locked sd-card, etc.
I'm using a seperatly bought 8GB sd card,on which WP7 ran fine for 3 Month...
If i don't find a solution to this issue, i will go back to WM6.5, and buy a new HTC in about 1 month...
bye
martin
