I have a few "Digital Copy" movies that I have purchased and of course I had imported them into iTunes.. Now when I put them on my tab they never work.. How can we get these movies working properly? I tried to do some reading and it seems you have to convert the M4V files with converters that cost like 50 bucks.. Is there anyways to do this for FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! God you pay for the media and they dont even let you watch it, ridiculous!!!!!!
Not sure what exactly you mean by 'digital copy'? If it is the digital copy the comes with DVD or BD disc, they are always DRMed and won't work outside of iTunes (or i devices) or WMP environment. You need to hack the DRM out of those files before you can play them on your tablet.
If it is a digital rip you created yourself, you will have to experiment with different video encode settings. m4v files with proper encoding works just fine.
Either way, you don't need to pay anything. Commercial software can't stripe out DRM (it is illegal) and most free converters can't deal with DRM.

If it's not drm protected, then install handbrake on your PC or Mac, it's free, and convert it to mp4 or m4v format.

You can only use those on iTunes/WMP, because they're not really M4V files. They're DRM-laden pseudo-m4v files.
Sorry, you can't use these on your Tab. Blame the media companies, not Samsung.
Handbrake is a free converter that works great but it doesn't do DRM either. (Exception: It can handle the rather weak CSS DRM implemented on DVDs.)
I have had success using DVDFab HD Decrypter to remove the DRM from Blu-Ray movies and then Handbraking the result down to 720p for the Tab.

Maybe this will work for you!? i havent tried it but it looks pretty good.
Heres another convertor http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=492261
I personally use AVS video convertor -http://www.avs4you.com/AVS-Video-Converter.aspx?sct=inc&ct=google&cid=67 it is a paid app but very good and simple to use, but i'm sure there must be free versions of a similar program available.
also i convert to MP4 and play using either Coreplayer-http://coreplayer.com/, TCMP-http://picard.exceed.hu/tcpmp/test/or the built in HTC Album video player. others use different formats for higher compression(to fit more on the sd card)..... Definately think about trying out/buying CorePlayer as it is a great media player.
These are easy to find, use the search box at the top right and you can find a lot of information for our devices. have fun!!
Welcome to the forum
Video converters
I personally would look for a program called Format Factory. Search for it on google. It can convert any video, audio ,pictures etc into any format you want and best of all, it's free.
My favorite converter is dvd::rip (http://www.exit1.org/dvdrip/). I've converted movies to 480x256 that play beautifully with CorePlayer.

Does this convert movie files into that size/resolution or just DVDs?
I use a program called DVD Catalyst. It cost me like $20 but I can rip into any format and screen size I want. I use the free TCPMP to play all my movies on my TP2.

did::rip will only covert DVDs (after ripping them), but I think installing it will also give you command-line tools to be able to convert other formats as well. I haven't looked for a GUI for that yet.
I dvdfab to rip the DVD to my hard drive and AutoGK to convery to Xvid format. Both are really easy to use. I use the basic free DviX player to play them. Not a very nice player but it's free.
The best one... is FREE!!!
Being Dutch, you probably would like to have your subtitles included, something US and UK people does not take into account when looking for a media coder.
Here is the best, multilingual, I set profiles for my wife's Nokia and for my superb Tilt2 (and my old Fuze as well).
It comes with the codecs and the tutorials and all you need to rip any movies/DVD into your phone.

HEy everyone I was just wondering if anyone has a fav app for video conversion with 800*420 resolution support and one for DRM removal of itunes movies. the app i used to use for my G1 doesnt have any settings for 800*420 only 720*420 and doesnt offer any DRm removal for itunes videos. I just got a tmobile-US HD2 (bad-ass!!) and I would like to be able to convert my collection over to the HD2. I already searched the forums but couldnt find an exact awnser. So I am hoping some of you Euro-HD2 guys with a little experience on the matter could suggest a gem of an app for this.
Thanks in advance.

DRM removal anyone?
i know this might be a little unadvanced of a question for all you super genious's but i have been searching the web for any kind of software that can remove DRM protection from itunes purchased movies and i can't find anything that works.. . i guess ill try the burn to dvd method and return to computer without drm to see if it works. although this way seems a little excessive.damn you Apple and you movie studios and you record labels i bought the stuff i should be able to play it anywher anyone here has a trick or favorite method of doing this let me know. if there is no way could someone let me know also. thnks
I think most people here would be looking at 800 x 480 and not 800x420. If you do a search on XDA you will find quite a lot of information.
I'm not so sure about DRM, but I use Xmedia. it's fast and free.
It has HTC HD2 profile already in it, so it's very simple.
Just so you know, 800x480 is 15:9 not 16:9.
It converts it to MPEG4, so you can use windows media or video player. No extra players (Coreplayer is excellent for other files though) needed.
Only thing I haven't figured out is how to get subtitles on it.
My mkv movies have german subtitles embedded in it, and not by a separate .srt file.
oh well. still works very well.
Sure, it's no an answer to your question, but: usually converting a video to phone screen resolution format is wasted time.
The HD2 is more than powerful enough to watch xvid encoded videos, given you use a decent player, coreplayer > tcpmp, but tcpmp is good enough; bigger video has bigger files, yet a 16gb microsd is also big, and you're going to delete the file after you've watched it, so... save yourself the big hassle of video conversion

You can usually extract the embedded subs with apps like mkvextract....they come either in srt format or ass, which u can then convert to srt and use with tcpmp.

If you have a decent movie player (like CorePlayer) you can actually watch regular PC movies on the HD2 without needing to re-encode them.
I watch DiVX movies on mine all the time.
Try Ojos Soft Video Converter and convert regular DVD's in MP4
not free...but the Blockbuster app does have some pretty cheap downloads. Or you could always rip your own dvds and transfer them to your SD card
Movies on your HTC HD2
You won't need to pay for a converter. I've been using "Videora" and "Super" with some success. I have not been able to play an avi file on the HD2. However it will play MP4. Windows Media Player Mobile doesn't seem to let you watch anything in full screen (big surprise). I'm assuming you already know how to rip your legally owned content into a vob file at least. I used Videora and it does a fantastic job with some files like avi and mpg but the audio is not very good. I can't seem to solve that problem no matter what settings I use. Super will work how ever I can't find the proper settings so that the movie doesn't look squished on the HTC HD2 screen. Some of the movies I had converted for my iPod touch work perfectly on my HTC HD2. Some didn't. I hope this helps you.

Can you tell me the settings you are using on videora, i have been playing with it, but i keep getting stuttering audio and video, tho video is not as bad.I have the latest version that says it is for the hd2 but the hd2 isnt listed in the drop down box.
try Aimersoft Video Converter. It seems to convert my dvds without a problem. I have my bitrate around 1500 so my videos come out around 1.2gb a movie. Or you can try Super C. That's free as well.
CorePlayer will play any "regular" avi file (DivX or Xdiv) the best.
If movie sound is encoded with AC3 then use TCPMP player.

@tuppaac,
I have edited your post. PM me if you would like to know why.
ok so we all know we can have digital copies of movies play in our portable devices so i decided to test some movies on my tab. Two movies in question were Star Trek and Sherock Holmes. I went through the entire process of copying the movies to my pc using itunes (one i could have used media player but didnt work), then transfer the movies to my tab. i tries opening using stock video player and nothing and i even downloaded different video players that i though would support the video format and nothing. what gives? how can we watch DIGITAL COPIES of movies on our tab? AND NO I DO NOT FEEL LIKE RIPPING A DVD OR BLUE RAY (DONT HAVE BD PLAYER ON LAPTOP) JUST IN CASE ANYONE DECIDES TO SUGGEST THAT. i just want to be able to view digital copies.........
Can't you remove DRM using some windows xp/vista/7 program?
Just went through this yesterday. It's a DRM issue. If it's like the Toy Story 3 Digital Copy I got with the 4 disc set it's tied to iTunes. Only iTunes or other Apple products will play it. Now, there should be a way to rip the DRM or convert it, I just didn't invest that much time into figuring out how to do so. All I did was rip and re-encode the DVD version.

if ripping and re-encoding DVD is the only way then i have no choice, but it sure is a pain.....
EDIT: what program would you suggest i use to format DVD's to play on the TAB? And what is the best file format to use (MP4, AVI)? want to get the best video/audio quality...
I've used this in the past to remove DRM from iTunes music tracks: http://audials.com/en/tunebite/index.html
It seems it is now able to remove DRM from movies too! So, if you LEGALLY purchased the movie via iTunes you can us this to get it to play on the Tab.

Copy and paste the link. Not sure what's up with that...
To rip DVDs I always use Handbrake on the "normal" setting. Works perfectly.

Yeah, have to agree that Audials Tunebite 's pretty good solution.
There's a new version out that can easily remove drm protection from itunes protected movies and videos plus I saw it can also be used to rip dvds and convert dvd movies to whatever format works for pc or whatever devices u need.
Hi All,
I've downloaded a couple of videos on my Ipod Classic (160Gb).
One of them is in HD and they're all M4V files.
Now they play fine on the Ipod, but I can't get them to play on my Acer.
I've dragged them to the SD Card and I'm trying to play them with Arcmedia (which just closes) but no error.
If I try and play them with Mobo it just keeps going into a loop trying to open the video, it is 1.6Gb in size.
Is it too big? or will the Acer just not play M4V files?
Bit of a bummer if that's the case as they're a good picture from itunes...
Any help appreciated.
1.- Long press/right click the file and select rename
2.- Change the .m4v with .mp4
3.- ????
4.- Profit

Hmmmmmm, didn't work for me.
Changed the files okay to show as .mp4
Arcplayer just closes, mobo still loops and the standard video player says 'this file cannot be played'.
Damn.
Weird, PC plays them just fine.... maybe something to do with the little extras en .m4v or apple's ****ty DRM... I think it's the second one...
Did you tried to rename them in windows? or android?, you may have ended with video.mp4.m4v so the file is still a M4V file.
I have two M4V files in my movies folder. They both play fine with nemoPlayer. One is 1.4 gb and one .45 gb. Running 3.1 - 4.010.09_COM_GEN2 .

Could you possibly post the Nemo Player.apk?
Don't think it's against the rules as it's a stock program?
I have a flashed rom which doesn't include Nemo....
Would love to get these to work.
Rockplayer or Moboplayer
Free market download - they play pretty much anything I throw at them.
Well, I've got Nemo player installed.
It won't even find the files!
I've named one as mp4 and the other as m4v but it won't even bring them into the library.
I've even rebooted and moved the files around my SDcard to see if it helps.
No joy
I play m4v files through Mobo all the time. Need to make sure tthe files are in baseline h264 not other profiles. Finally, dumb question perhaps but are the files from iTunes maybe with DRM protection?

Hmmm, it seems this could be the issue!
I've never purchased from iTunes before, tried to remove the DRM last night but it seems my laptop struggles to convert.
Damn, that means this will never replace my laptop unless someone writes an app that fools the itunes files into thinking my Acer is an apple device.

odd as this seems the best way for me to get digital copies is to get the blueray combo pack with the dvd included and rip the dvd (480p is just fine for this screen size) Gotta love the digital age; of convience while buying, then head scratching after its downloaded find out you really dont own the file.
sell that laptop and get your self/build a powerful desktop now that you gots a tablet u can have the a work truck for converting and such

That's the annoying thing isn't it?
Although I've bought the film I have to now play it on an apple device.
Not like when you used to buy cd's you could play them on any device.
Will try again when I return home, sat in Terminal 5 waiting for my flight to LA writing this on my Acer
from what I heard if m4v/mp4 are encoded with high profile A500 won't be able to play - in fact I don't think any of Android tablet can...
I've been using my laptop for my conversions, Acer TimelineX has plenty of oomph w/ dual-core i5 & AMD 6570 gpu
Even worked ripping a bluray then converting to 720p, but as above, 480p DVD rips look fine
In terms of h264 baseline vs advanced, this may in fact be due to the Tegra2 right now, not just Honeycomb
