If you have a decent movie player (like CorePlayer) you can actually watch regular PC movies on the HD2 without needing to re-encode them.
I watch DiVX movies on mine all the time.

Try Ojos Soft Video Converter and convert regular DVD's in MP4

not free...but the Blockbuster app does have some pretty cheap downloads. Or you could always rip your own dvds and transfer them to your SD card

Movies on your HTC HD2
You won't need to pay for a converter. I've been using "Videora" and "Super" with some success. I have not been able to play an avi file on the HD2. However it will play MP4. Windows Media Player Mobile doesn't seem to let you watch anything in full screen (big surprise). I'm assuming you already know how to rip your legally owned content into a vob file at least. I used Videora and it does a fantastic job with some files like avi and mpg but the audio is not very good. I can't seem to solve that problem no matter what settings I use. Super will work how ever I can't find the proper settings so that the movie doesn't look squished on the HTC HD2 screen. Some of the movies I had converted for my iPod touch work perfectly on my HTC HD2. Some didn't. I hope this helps you.

Can you tell me the settings you are using on videora, i have been playing with it, but i keep getting stuttering audio and video, tho video is not as bad.I have the latest version that says it is for the hd2 but the hd2 isnt listed in the drop down box.

try Aimersoft Video Converter. It seems to convert my dvds without a problem. I have my bitrate around 1500 so my videos come out around 1.2gb a movie. Or you can try Super C. That's free as well.

CorePlayer will play any "regular" avi file (DivX or Xdiv) the best.
If movie sound is encoded with AC3 then use TCPMP player.

Downloading videos

I'm using joox to download movies and I would like to know how can I download or sync the videos to my phone? Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
Could anybody tell me please how to upload movies to my phone, if it's possible? I never did it with my so I just though I try it. Thanks in advance!
fastest way would put them on your storage card via a card reader and then put the card in the phone.... I have some on mine and they work fine but I do tend to stick with just .avi format
Where do you get your videos from and how do you do it? Thanks!
I've been playing movies on my Titan with TCPMP (the core pocket media player) and everything is playing fine, plays Divx and XVid and everything.
just take your movie file and reencode it in 320x240 with wathever software you want. Personnaly, I always use PocketDivXEncoder, set it to PDA, crank the audio to 6 and an episode of 22 minutes takes around 55Mb
Man...it's frustrating when you're a novice to some things. Could you explain a little further how to download the movies to my computer and then to my phone? Now, I download the movies to a my realplayer library and I'm stuck at that point.
well, I don't know how the Realplayer thingy works, I usualy just download TV Rips (in Divx or Xvid) then reencode them. I guess google is your friend for the rest!
Ok. Thanks for what you told me anyway.

When you install Realplayer, it gives you the option to record video and audio streams from flash players, though it saves them in real format. I personally prefer SUPER (thats the name of the program), which downloads and reencodes the videos on the fly. It even has presets for several screen formats. Also, it's freeware, which helps.
Cheers.

Maybe this will work for you!? i havent tried it but it looks pretty good.
Heres another convertor http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=492261
I personally use AVS video convertor -http://www.avs4you.com/AVS-Video-Converter.aspx?sct=inc&ct=google&cid=67 it is a paid app but very good and simple to use, but i'm sure there must be free versions of a similar program available.
also i convert to MP4 and play using either Coreplayer-http://coreplayer.com/, TCMP-http://picard.exceed.hu/tcpmp/test/or the built in HTC Album video player. others use different formats for higher compression(to fit more on the sd card)..... Definately think about trying out/buying CorePlayer as it is a great media player.
These are easy to find, use the search box at the top right and you can find a lot of information for our devices. have fun!!

Video converters
I personally would look for a program called Format Factory. Search for it on google. It can convert any video, audio ,pictures etc into any format you want and best of all, it's free.
My favorite converter is dvd::rip (http://www.exit1.org/dvdrip/). I've converted movies to 480x256 that play beautifully with CorePlayer.

Does this convert movie files into that size/resolution or just DVDs?
I use a program called DVD Catalyst. It cost me like $20 but I can rip into any format and screen size I want. I use the free TCPMP to play all my movies on my TP2.

did::rip will only covert DVDs (after ripping them), but I think installing it will also give you command-line tools to be able to convert other formats as well. I haven't looked for a GUI for that yet.
I dvdfab to rip the DVD to my hard drive and AutoGK to convery to Xvid format. Both are really easy to use. I use the basic free DviX player to play them. Not a very nice player but it's free.
The best one... is FREE!!!
Being Dutch, you probably would like to have your subtitles included, something US and UK people does not take into account when looking for a media coder.
Here is the best, multilingual, I set profiles for my wife's Nokia and for my superb Tilt2 (and my old Fuze as well).
It comes with the codecs and the tutorials and all you need to rip any movies/DVD into your phone.

BEst APP for 800*420 video conversion and DRM removal?HD2

HEy everyone I was just wondering if anyone has a fav app for video conversion with 800*420 resolution support and one for DRM removal of itunes movies. the app i used to use for my G1 doesnt have any settings for 800*420 only 720*420 and doesnt offer any DRm removal for itunes videos. I just got a tmobile-US HD2 (bad-ass!!) and I would like to be able to convert my collection over to the HD2. I already searched the forums but couldnt find an exact awnser. So I am hoping some of you Euro-HD2 guys with a little experience on the matter could suggest a gem of an app for this.
Thanks in advance.

DRM removal anyone?
i know this might be a little unadvanced of a question for all you super genious's but i have been searching the web for any kind of software that can remove DRM protection from itunes purchased movies and i can't find anything that works.. . i guess ill try the burn to dvd method and return to computer without drm to see if it works. although this way seems a little excessive.damn you Apple and you movie studios and you record labels i bought the stuff i should be able to play it anywher anyone here has a trick or favorite method of doing this let me know. if there is no way could someone let me know also. thnks
I think most people here would be looking at 800 x 480 and not 800x420. If you do a search on XDA you will find quite a lot of information.
I'm not so sure about DRM, but I use Xmedia. it's fast and free.
It has HTC HD2 profile already in it, so it's very simple.
Just so you know, 800x480 is 15:9 not 16:9.
It converts it to MPEG4, so you can use windows media or video player. No extra players (Coreplayer is excellent for other files though) needed.
Only thing I haven't figured out is how to get subtitles on it.
My mkv movies have german subtitles embedded in it, and not by a separate .srt file.
oh well. still works very well.
Sure, it's no an answer to your question, but: usually converting a video to phone screen resolution format is wasted time.
The HD2 is more than powerful enough to watch xvid encoded videos, given you use a decent player, coreplayer > tcpmp, but tcpmp is good enough; bigger video has bigger files, yet a 16gb microsd is also big, and you're going to delete the file after you've watched it, so... save yourself the big hassle of video conversion

You can usually extract the embedded subs with apps like mkvextract....they come either in srt format or ass, which u can then convert to srt and use with tcpmp.

Can't watch Avatar on the HD2

Hi Folks-
I know there are several threads on video encoding, but I think I am asking something new. I am using the retail version of Winx DVD Ripper which does a nice job overcoming encryption from my store bought DVDs so I can rip to my computer and then transfer to my HD2. Problem is I have workable mp4 files on my computer that I can watch after the process, but I am having mixed success watching them on the HD2.
Just recently, I ripped a nice mp4 version of Avatar that played fine on my computer, but when I transferred it to the phone, it would show the circle for the video player for half a second and then go back to my file explorer. This also happened with Black Hawk Down. I've had success with other movies such as Iron Man, etc. Am I running into some form of copy protection? If so, I'm annoyed as these are 100% retail DVDs I have purchased.
Specific settings for Winx include 800x480 resolution, sound to at least 160, using high resolution mode, even safe mode the second time I ripped Avatar to see if that would help.
Any ideas would be most appreciated, thanks!
Try the HTC Video Encoder. I've encoded 1080p .mkv files with no playback issues on my HD2. It's free, so can't hurt to give it a shot.

i view my movies using a divx player with no problems at all.

Try TCPMP player , install it then open the program and hit file than open and select the movie! let me know if this works.

Its just called video encoding GUI (saying htc implies they made it, when they didn't). But yes, I can highly recommend using it.
Also using tcpmp doesn't allow for full hardware acceleration.

Good to know what player do you recommend?
core player and tcmp player work all the time.. Dix player"sometimes work" but has small keys and audio issues but at least you can adjust sound and timeframe in fullscreen.
I will try the other encoding program. I downloaded pocket divx player and I couldn't figure out how to open up a new file and I tried to follow the directions in the program. Is it possible that I am having a hard time with my mp4 files because I transferred them not via Activesync but by the other option that pops up when you first connect your phone to a computer? Will post in a bit when I try the new encoder.
Edit: Tried the new encoder, but all sorts of error messages when I showed them the contents of my Avatar DVD. I have 33 files on the actual DVD, which ones am I trying to encode?
Don't use the video encoding GUI as it is awfully slow and doesn't even give you a great image quality due to the settings being made suitable for a Touch HD.
Just head over to doom9 and download MeGui. A bit harder to use, but at least you'll be able to encode them in under an hour with great IQ.
Just did an encode of my Avatar Blu-Ray(45Gb) that took a little under an hour and ended up with a 3Gb file with a bitrate of 2453Kbps and max at 10Mbps. Split it into two files of 1500Mb and the HD2 played them like a champ without a stutter in sight.
I also recommend you download eac3to(for audio ripping) and yamb(mp4 splitting).
Will try meGUI, guess people are thinking it has to do with the encoding huh? Even if it works ok on my computer but not HD2?
did you try the tcpmp player?

Yes. Just because it plays on the computer doesn't mean it'll play on the phone. Your computer's hardware is substantially "faster" than the HD2's. Optimizing the video through encoding is usually the answer.

Oof, this program does look confusing. I'm going to go through the help files and try to get a grasp of it all, but if you have some preset settings or a streamlined bit of advice, I'm all for it. So far I'm trying one-click method and I've been able to show it where the .vob files are and create a directory to place the file and working directory. There is a hick-up with something about the chapter titles and it looks like it needs a file but it shows nothing when I explore my DVD drive. The Megui wiki isn't very clear here...though the program looks promising!
try using dvdfab, select iphone/ipod encoding and after transfer your encoded avatar to your sd card.. i did it like that.

Edit:
Tried Handbrake (couldn't reliably read DVD to burn), Winx DVD Ripper (couldnt play on HD2), couldnt figure out meGUI and the other encoder linked here, and I didn't have to use any other player other than the nice HTC one. Thanks again.

A lot of standalone players worldwide need a firmware update to make it work because Avatar BD uses a new encryption scheme called BD+ 5. I recommend u a blu ray ripper named PavTube. I think the Pavtube Blu-Ray Ripper Software is currently the best ripping software and surprisingly it can rip both DVDs & Blu-Ray Discs without the need of having a different Undo-Protection program. I have tried many brands of ripping software with poor results. PavTube Blue-Ray Ripper is a real "Swiss Knife". Download a demo version and you will find it is definitly worth buying.Experience Blu Ray Avatar in the center of your Home Theater System

Adding movies to streak

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has had any luck adding movies to the streak. Ive tried to put a digital copy from a dvd I bought on it and it never shows up. Can someone please help. And sorry if this is a repeat question.
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
I usually upload vidcast (video podcast) to the /video dir in memorycard. Works like a charm.
It is probably an codec issue...
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
Use Rockplayer if your codec doesn's get recognized.
Otherwise I like Meridian player most.
Doesn't this type of movie have digital rights that only play on certain progs. I.e windows mob. Media player? I know I've had this issue with loading movies in this format to a phone before.
Is it in MP4 or avi? As the stock player wont play avi files N I would also recommend rock player.
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
Thanks I will give rockplayer a try.
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
VPLAYER seems to be the new kid on the block that plays all
DVDs on the Streak
The best solution I've found by far is SPB Mobile DVD. This software allows you to put a DVD into your computer's DVD drive, run the software, and it will convert a full length movie into an .avi file of about 500megs that plays really well with Rockplayer. Just copy it to your storage card and enjoy!
I got SPB Mobile DVD when using my former WinMo phones (came to the Streak from the Tilt2). Most of the SPB software I used on my windows phone is forgotten now with Android, but this gem really works well! Hope this helps!

OK so now I have dolphin browser on it and rockplayer and still can't get movies off of 4shared it downloads really fast and its not the hole file.... man all I want on this sick 5" screen is some really nice movies. love the phone have had it for two months this thing is just awsome...... just really would like some movies.. PS no CPU any more need to be able to do it from my streak
When you say no CPU, do you mean you don't have a computer to move stuff from?
BTW, you won't be able to play digital copies from bought movies on the Android platform. They only work through iTunes devices or Windows Media Player. Since Android has neither, you can't play the file no matter even if you get it onto your phone. DRM will stop it from playing. I would see if you could find a DRM stripper, or just download it, or use a DVDtoMP4 or something program.
ya no computer to move movies on to the streak.... oh well thanks anyway im just going to pay someone to put movies on my sd card....
I hope I don't incur the wrath of the mods here, but if you have an unlimited data plan, you could always go to one of the well known forums that i'm not allowed to mention, where you will find rapidshare/megaupload links for hundreds of movies that have been converted for watching on smartphones. Of course, before you download any, you need to check you own an original copy ;-)

I used dvdfab, amazing program, converted a movie that i used to have on my ipod, it was set to mp4, converted it to mp4 for general devices, used rockplayer, works like a charm.
I tried playing it on streak player, it works but everything seems choppy.

Get a program (of your choice) that will rip a DVD into mp4 format. Choose the resolution of Android 800x480. Easier said than done sometimes, since DVD copy protection can sometimes be a factor. WHat I find is the best way is this.
1. Get ImgBurn, and DVDFab (for the copy protection). if this is not legal here, I apologize. Img is free, dvd fab has a free version
2. create an ISO of the DVD.
3. Get Elaborate Bytes Virtual Clone drive also free.
4. Mount the ISO you just created.
5. load up your DVD to mp4 converter
6. convert to mp4 with the android settings of 800x480
7. copy the resulting mp4 file to your streak. the default video player will play the file without issue, as well as any other program (rock etc) that supports playing mp4.
the program I use at home for the conversion to mp4 supports most major devices by name (i.e. iphone) but the streak is not listed. In playing around with it, I found there is a specific setting for "Android 800x480" and it works perfectly. Aiseesoft MP4 Converter Suite is what I use, and it allows for the conversion of DVD to mp4 and the conversion of basically any other codec out there to mp4 (xvid, divx, avi, wma, etc)
I've successfully converted the Hot Tub Time Machine, Night of the Demons, some Voyager shows, and all play without fail.
if you need more info, email me, I'll help where I can.
