[AnyKernel][MOD] Tbolt Kernel Updater - Thunderbolt Android Development

Ihtfp69 tip toes in and closes the door
I realized after releasing a ROM that no one was using Koush's AnyKernel method for flashing kernels. This poses a problem for ROMs with custom ramdisks. Someone mentioned the AnyKernel method did not work on this phone. So I did some investigating. With a few changes to the script, I have it working perfectly.
Credits here, of course, go to Koush. I just modified his script. The kernel zip attached here contains the kernel from the latest leak. Because this uses the AnyKernel method, you can flash this on ANY GB Sense ROM and it will work and not break WiFi.
EDIT: I guess Ziggy did a version as well a few months ago. Here is a link to his: Ziggy's AnyKernel MOD

Yes, it's the stock kernel from the new leak, which is Sense.

Okay, thank you. That's what I thought...

Applying this gave me bootloops in Gingervitis 1.2.1 GB. Won't go past the splash screen

The scripts should work on AOSP and Sense ROMs. The kernel included is Sense only.

Hmmm ... it shouldn't matter, but I will wake a look and see if I can duplicate it. Make sure the file you downloaded is around 3.4 MB. If not, grab it again.

First download was 2.89 second was 3.4 I believe. Both had the exact same result. Boot loops

Ziggy already did this for the tbolt. Ive been using anykernel for over a month now. It what iuse when i extract the kernel from synergy.

Is he sharing? I seem to be misinformed then. Why is everyone else still using boot.img files then?

yeah it's under the thunderbolt section at ppcgeeks. been there for awhile now.

cool beans. I'll just link to his then.

What is the purpose of this kernel updater?
I'm not sure I understood how Ziggy explained it.

I just tried this, and it broke Wifi on my Tbolt. Any idea what the reason could be? I extracted the Zimage from my target ROM, replaced it in the .Zip, and flashed it. Anything else I should be doing?

oh, yeah, forgot to mention that I copied the 2 files (bcm4329* and sequans*) from the target ROM into /system/lib/modules After I had flashed. Should I have copied it to the .zip first and then flashed it? does it sit anywhere other than /system/lib/modules?
The reason i didnt do it is because I assumed the existing files should work.

The bcm spits out at the end of compiling the kernel and it is specific to the kernel. Pull the zimage and the modules from the ROM, put them in the correct folders in the zip ... Wipe Cache and Dalvik for kicks and flash. Should be fine.

[KERNEL] 2.6.29 Kaos AOSP kernel OC/BFS/EXT4

This is for all the devs using my kernel in their roms.
This is the same as my last kernel with Zanfur's OC patches included.
The attached file is *JUST* the kernel, you can't flash it in recovery.
This kernel now also has the Latest .316 BFS Scheduler(thanks to Decad3nce's backport) and EXT4 support.
If you like my work, think about donating to my coffee fund.
Great work!
I will try it.

The problem is the ramdisks are different for each ROM, so it'll need to be combined with the ramdisk for that build.
You can flash it with fastboot though over your already installed rom.

I tried to flash the imgage through fast boot (I did rename the img to PB00IMG.zip) and I got the blue progress bar on the right side like it was flashing, but when I went to see if the kernal took, it did not replace darchstars kernal. Any thoughts?

I'm working on CyanogenMod6 for our phones and this happened to by on the way there because I was futzing in recovery so I put it out as ppl seemed to be asking for Voodoo support in Froyo. If it doesn't work for you, don't worry - the performance difference between stock RFS and Voodoo on Froyo isn't as significant as it was with Eclair (the 'Q' number is near 1400 rather than above 1700 - I guess still somewhat better than stock).

these two things are unrelated, bootanimation.zip goes on your phone, unsigned zips are run from recovery. this kernel as clockwork as the default recovery.

works fine for me, but you can also try renaming it to update.zip and trying that way... the only way to tell if it's working is with a custom boot animation or verifying the output of build.txt in the root of the phone

no dice that way either.all the update-script text comes up, says it's done flashing the kernel, and then reboots, but the name of the kernel doesn't change. plus when i tried as update.zip it stuck at the boot screen and i had to flash an older kernel to get it to boot.

Look in the out/target/product/glacier directory that you found the update.zip file in and get the recovery.img file. This is CWM recovery 3.0.0.0 and it is required for GB to work. Won't work with froyo though so make sure you take a backrup of your existing recovery.

Did you check r.cyanogenmod.com for open commits? There are a lot of patches to the source up. Some are for all devices, some are for ours, and some don't apply to our device at all but you would benefit from patching your repo.
Mine boots fine. Try patching the repo and building again if you have the patience.

[mod][PATCH][AROMA] ROM_PATCH v1.2 for ics- full freedom

thanks a lot to amarullz for providing aroma installer, and thanks to nightshack0 I have taken his installer and modded to work according to my need but dont think that I have just copied and pasted the installer
had you ever feel that another galaxy s variant's forum have a ics rom which suits all your need but you cannot flash it because it is not yet ported to your device but now all this will not happen again with this patch you can install which ROM you want to flash there will be no boundation for you.
if you are getting status 7 or getprop error then a little work from your side is needed
extract the rom to a folder then go to /extracted folder/META - INF/com/Google/Android
from there open updater-script and remove all getprop lines
come back to META - INF folder and delete all three files
zip the file and flash it in recovery
NOTE:- to edit updater script use jota text editor(android), notepad++(windows)

initrd.gz problems

I am at a loss here. I am running CLK 1.5 PA 1.1a with tytung r3, however, the device gets icon flash similar to icecreamtosti, where the icons do not respond without a reboot.
I wanted to flash Dorimanx v6.9 or v7.2 HWA, and understand I need to place the ROMs initrd.gz file in the initrd-custom folder. I have tried this on Snow Leopard & XP to no avail using a variety of different compression programs including 7-zip. I unzip the kernel and the ROM, put the PA 1.1a initrd.gz in the correct folder and rezip it. Each time though, even after re-downloading the kernel and ROM, I get an error within CWM, which reads that the installation has been aborted. Why is this? Do I need to re-compile the kernel in Android Kitchen? (I do not know how to do this by the way) or what else am I doing incorrectly? I have trawled the XDA HD2 forum, but had no luck. Suggestions?

You don't unzip the contents. By doing so you break the signing. What you wanna do is open your ROM zip using 7 zip then browse to the initrd.gz file copy to your desktop, close everything. Now open the kernel zip file browse to the initrd-custom folder open it. Now double click and drag the initrd.gz file from your desktop to the 7-zip window which has the kernel zip opened to the initrd-custom folder.

Have you tried installing the kernel without adding the initrd.gz? I remember getting that error when the download was inturupted or something. So if you still get that error without editing the zip, then it most likely is the zip file and you need to redownload. Because if you did exactly as i said then it should be working. Im a long time user of his kernel's on almost every ROM out there and never once ran into any troubles. But we will surely figure this out
Can you post a link to the ROM you are using, and i'll download it and edit the kernel then repost it in this thread for you.

Thank you so much, I wanted to experiment whether v6.9 is better than v7.2. Would it be possible to repack that kernel too?

Haha yes I could, I personally preferred 7.2 over 6.9 but my favorite is 6.5D xP
Did you flash the zip yet?

I flashed it with success, but it doesn't feel as snappy as tytung r3, it takes a few seconds to unlock and load programs, even clocked at 1612mhz and experimenting with ZRAM on and off. Thank you though, I will probably stick with tytung's for the moment though, did you use 7-zip to transfer the initrd.gz file?

Hmm i wonder if its cause i took the initrd.gz from an older version of Paranoidandroid. I have version .6 on my computer thats why i used it. I'll redownload the latest and try with that. I might even flash it myself and test it out. Maybe the lib files need to be transfered as well. Dorimanx has by far been the best kernel for myself, but i dont really care for ICS yet but when i was testing the waters i used DM kernel and i loved it. Snappy responsive and pretty awesome. It just lacks a boat load of features i rely on in CM7. CM9 claimed they will re add the features once they iron kinks out so once they release a better build i will most likely convert

Very curious by this statement, and admittedly, my own android experience is limited... I've used ACA SD android for a number of months, and have switched over to ICS. Currently with ICT & DM's 6.9 kernel, but love the UI in hybrid mode of PA... and so, am really curious what you meant when you alluded to 'missing features' that were in CM7, but not CM9. What was lost? What am I missing? (sincere question) Thanks, -Rob

Well, there are two that i pretty much LOVE and cannot live without xD
Those are,
1. Disable full screen (status bar remains visible no matter the app, has a "hide" button if you wish to use full screen in a game or app, then you can unhide by pressing home key(my choice))
2. Really big one, lockscreen gestures. I love being able to draw a 'C' on my lockscreen and open the phone whitout having a custom app slot being taken up. Plus, gestures allow for an app to run while still displaying the lockscreen.
THose are the only two big ones i will miss, there are a few more small ones but i dont remember without flashing CM9 and checking And its been awhile since ive tested the waters, so i might download the latest AOKP and CM9 to see where they are at. But they both are good and pretty cool. CM7 is just perfect for me. No issues what so ever.

It would be brilliant if you could test out the kernel with the initrd.gz from 1.1a PA, that might explain why it felt slow when I tested the original.
