[Kernel][FroYo] Captivate Kernel + CWM + Voodoo + Custom Boot Image - Captivate Android Development

ALL CREDIT GOES TO ATINM FOR CREATING THIS(and allowing me to share)
Thanks To Kaik541 for being awesome....and being the main tester
Atinm currently has bigger fish to fry then this Kernel, therefore
THIS ISNT BEING SUPPORTED FOR FURTHER DEVELOPMENT

guys, the "unsupported" part of this doesn't mean development has stopped or stalled, it means do not expect things like changelogs or walkthroughs. me and warri can help you troubleshoot, but installing this is done so at your own risk with no promises it will work.

Atinm has created a very nice Kernel, and has allowed me to share it with the Public. HOWEVER, there is no support offered, we have done some testing and it works for us, this does not mean we guarantee it will work for you:
Included:
Modified ClockworkMod Recovery to replace Stock 3e (Backup/Restore with Voodoo Enabled)
The Voodoo Lagfix
Captivate Kernel
Custom Boot Image Support (place any WVGA bootanimation.zip in either /system/media or /data/local thanks Kaik)
How To Install :
Download File From Link Below
Place the Link on your /sdcard/ (internal)
Flash through ROM Manager, or ClockworkMod Recovery
Enjoy the VooDoo Lagfix
If you are having issues with installation please follow KaiK's Instructions found here (can be used on 1.14)

I hate you wArri atinm, I just got Voodoo into my custom kernel...
Ok, well, guess this is no longer being worked on, I feel better now..

oh snap!
Flashing time again. mmmmmmm
THANKS!!

I'm working on CyanogenMod6 for our phones and this happened to by on the way there because I was futzing in recovery so I put it out as ppl seemed to be asking for Voodoo support in Froyo. If it doesn't work for you, don't worry - the performance difference between stock RFS and Voodoo on Froyo isn't as significant as it was with Eclair (the 'Q' number is near 1400 rather than above 1700 - I guess still somewhat better than stock).

colorfix can't be done without sources and this kernel will have aosp bootanimation.zip support soon as well.

and speak of the devil, anyone wanting AOSP boot animation support, use this kernel here:

same as above, flash in CWM, place any WVGA bootanimation.zip in either /system/media or /data/local

Is that a ext4/lagfix + bootanimation kernel only?
Is it 2.2, and does it have recovery 2e?

All of the above. But CWM recovery is default, you can boot into 2e if you want from that. I prefer CWM recovery as my default, so that's how it is.

With bootanimation support.. I assume unsigned .zips are supported?

these two things are unrelated, bootanimation.zip goes on your phone, unsigned zips are run from recovery. this kernel as clockwork as the default recovery.

works fine for me, but you can also try renaming it to update.zip and trying that way... the only way to tell if it's working is with a custom boot animation or verifying the output of build.txt in the root of the phone

no dice that way either.all the update-script text comes up, says it's done flashing the kernel, and then reboots, but the name of the kernel doesn't change. plus when i tried as update.zip it stuck at the boot screen and i had to flash an older kernel to get it to boot.

[KERNEL] 2.6.29 Kaos AOSP kernel OC/BFS/EXT4

This is for all the devs using my kernel in their roms.
This is the same as my last kernel with Zanfur's OC patches included.
The attached file is *JUST* the kernel, you can't flash it in recovery.
This kernel now also has the Latest .316 BFS Scheduler(thanks to Decad3nce's backport) and EXT4 support.
If you like my work, think about donating to my coffee fund.
Great work!
I will try it.

The problem is the ramdisks are different for each ROM, so it'll need to be combined with the ramdisk for that build.
You can flash it with fastboot though over your already installed rom.

[Kernel] 12/27/10 Reoriented for CyanogenMod 6.1 Beta 3.5

12/27 Update - A few minor changes in the initramfs, also updated to JPX source and fixed charge death. A single kernel is provided now that charge death has been fixed. By default, max. clock speed will be 1200MHz. To limit this, use setCPU or xan's app. To set the undervolt use the version of xan's app on my other kernel thread. Either flash the kernel with Odin, or extract the zImage and use Heimdall or Neldar's kernel flashing app.
This is a kernel to give the proper screen orientation, home/back button, and headphone/speaker logic, wired headset support, and backlight notification on the Captivate while using Aery's CyanogenMod 6.1 ROM. Look to the left of your screen, now back to me. See how I don't have a donate button? That's because all of the developers involved with this deserve any donations so much more than I do. I support the kernel hackers who really make our phones awesome, I hope you do too.
Note: The OC/UV kernels will, by default, have a max CPU frequency of 1.2GHz. If you don't want to overclock flash a non oc-uv kernel or install xan's UV app which can limit the max clock to 1GHz (or install setCPU). [̶B̶]̶A̶l̶s̶o̶[̶/̶B̶]̶,̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶o̶c̶-̶u̶v̶ ̶k̶e̶r̶n̶e̶l̶s̶ ̶h̶a̶v̶e̶ ̶a̶ ̶t̶e̶n̶d̶e̶n̶c̶y̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶c̶r̶a̶s̶h̶ ̶w̶h̶e̶n̶ ̶y̶o̶u̶ ̶l̶e̶a̶v̶e̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶m̶ ̶p̶l̶u̶g̶g̶e̶d̶ ̶i̶n̶ ̶w̶e̶l̶l̶ ̶p̶a̶s̶t̶ ̶a̶ ̶f̶u̶l̶l̶ ̶c̶h̶a̶r̶g̶e̶.̶ FIXED
12-8 - More fixes. Backlights work, but you have to toggle them on each reboot it seems, ie, use the app to turn them off then on, and then they work. I'll let neldar know about this. Y̶o̶u̶ ̶a̶l̶s̶o̶ ̶n̶e̶e̶d̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶p̶u̶s̶h̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶l̶i̶b̶l̶i̶g̶h̶t̶s̶.̶5̶p̶c̶1̶1̶0̶.̶s̶o̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶/̶s̶y̶s̶t̶e̶m̶/̶l̶i̶b̶/̶h̶w̶/̶.̶ ̶ ̶M̶a̶y̶b̶e̶ ̶s̶o̶m̶e̶ ̶k̶i̶n̶d̶ ̶u̶s̶e̶r̶ ̶w̶a̶n̶t̶s̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶m̶a̶k̶e̶ ̶a̶ ̶z̶i̶p̶ ̶f̶o̶r̶ ̶e̶v̶e̶r̶y̶o̶n̶e̶?̶ (thanks wi|son, I don't care what the people of Gamehendge say about you, you're not so bad.) I patched in Xcaliburinhand's wired headset support. What a job by that guy, btw. Mad props to him. Buy the guy a beer would ya?
12-5 - Lots of fixes. Wired and wireless tethering working with JK3. It's late and I don't feel like making flashable zips, so do it yourself or nut up and Odin flash the tars I'm posting. (There were some pre-made zips posted a couple weeks ago, look around if you're that lazy . If upgrading to the nightly, you probably want to install Superuser.
11/29 - Mount fixed, superuser working properly, wifi connection fixed, no adb needed for either. Beta 2 build available in Aery's thread. Added a no OC/UV kernel for people having issues with it.
11//28 - Beta 1 release. Support for both SD cards, Wifi* & GPS fixed. Flashing zImage (kernel) from recovery is now supported.
As of this release, to get wifi working you must do the following: No longer relevant
Code:
adb shell
cp /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf /data/wifi/bcm_supp.conf
chown -R wifi:wifi /data/wifi
And to fix su (superuser.apk) No longer relevant
Code:
mount -o remount,rw,noatime,nodiratime,noauto_da_alloc /dev/block/stl9 /system
11/21 - Kernel updates include support for both SD cards. The headphone out jack is now functional as well with the 1120A build. For the moment WiFi appears to be broken with this kernel, so pick your poison, ie, functional wifi and one SD card or no wifi and both SD cards.
11/16 - Initial Beta0 release reoriented kernel.
Read Aery's instructions on how to install CyanogenMod 6.1 here.. Note/system will be ext4 when you flash this, so the process of going back to other ROMs isn't as easy as it was before, but certainly not impossible, so look at the current issues before flashing. Reverting is pretty easy if you leave the update.zip for rooting on your SD card and Odin One Click back to stock. You might be able to flash a Voodoo 5 kernel, reboot to recovery and go from there, but this HAS NOT BEEN TESTED. After reading Aery's instructions (twice) if you're NOT upgrading a previous CM6.1 release, start by Odin flashing the tar file Aery has posted or flash the cm61-b1-sgs-initkernel.zip I have posted here in Clockwork recovery, reboot into Clockwork recovery, then flash CM6.1-GalaxyS-BETA1.zip, reboot to recovery then flash the most recent kernel above and the Google apps.
This is still very beta. A lot of things aren't perfect. I'm not really a developer, I just made this so I could use CyanogenMod a little bit better on my phone, and I thought I'd share it.
Again, all the credit for the ROM starts with Aery, and coolya, and probably a few others I'm not aware of and ends with Cyanogen. They put a lot of work into this, I'd suggest buying them a beer (I know I did). I also want to give a shout out to xcaliburinhand for posting his code on git and getting these problems fixed in the first place, as well as raspdeep for his excellent OC/UV work, and hardcore for some of the other mods.
I'll be updating this kernel as fixes become available.
What's included:
Hardcore's memory & jhash tweaks
Supercurio's color
Raspdeep's OC/UV
Coming up:
Other nonspecific items that I'll later include for Optimal Placebo Effect

[AnyKernel][MOD] Tbolt Kernel Updater

Ihtfp69 tip toes in and closes the door
I realized after releasing a ROM that no one was using Koush's AnyKernel method for flashing kernels. This poses a problem for ROMs with custom ramdisks. Someone mentioned the AnyKernel method did not work on this phone. So I did some investigating. With a few changes to the script, I have it working perfectly.
Credits here, of course, go to Koush. I just modified his script. The kernel zip attached here contains the kernel from the latest leak. Because this uses the AnyKernel method, you can flash this on ANY GB Sense ROM and it will work and not break WiFi.
EDIT: I guess Ziggy did a version as well a few months ago. Here is a link to his: Ziggy's AnyKernel MOD

oh, yeah, forgot to mention that I copied the 2 files (bcm4329* and sequans*) from the target ROM into /system/lib/modules After I had flashed. Should I have copied it to the .zip first and then flashed it? does it sit anywhere other than /system/lib/modules?
The reason i didnt do it is because I assumed the existing files should work.

The bcm spits out at the end of compiling the kernel and it is specific to the kernel. Pull the zimage and the modules from the ROM, put them in the correct folders in the zip ... Wipe Cache and Dalvik for kicks and flash. Should be fine.

[Kernel][KH3][KI1/KI2]Boog Kernel[Updated 9/29/11]w/Clockwork Recovery init.d support

Ok, here it is guys! I know all you stock captivators have been anticipating this!
This is the stock KH3 and now KI1/KI2 kernel with clockwork recovery injected. Also my first go at a project like this.
The only issue I see is that /system won't unmount, so no nandroid backups (they won't restore). /system will now unmount, but restoring a nandroid backup will totally bork your phone, don't even try! (unless you are ready to odin/heimdall back!)
I have to give a huge thanks to eXistZ, he helped point me in the right direction, and generously gave me scripts he uses. And let me bug him on a regular basis. Thanks dude! And a thanks to Chainfire for pointing me in the right direction to finding why system wouldn't unmount.
Anyone is available to use the kernel any way they like. Cook it in roms released here, flash it to your personal rom, or stock KH3! Take it apart, look at the pieces, see if you can make it better! I am far from a pro at this, and it may not be perfect, use at your own risk..yada yadda.
Nandroid is still broken, still looking into it.
Update 9/11/11
I am releasing this now, because it appears that the /system not unmounting issue causes problems for full wipe roms, with big system changes. This should help. Just don't try to do a nandroid restore, it will make your phone hang at the at&t logo! You have been warned!
It is also possible to format /system from cwm if anyone feels the need (you can't boot after, so only do so if you are also planning on also installing a rom).
The links below should be fixed to point at the new versions.
KH3
Here is the odin flashable version flash it first if your on stock: Link Mirror
Here is the KH3 cwm flashable kernel5! Flash it second to get init.d support if your on stock or don't already have cwm LINK It has init.d support and the same tweaks listed for the KI1/KI2 kernel below.
Here is a heimdall package for stock kh3 with the cwm kernel3 built in. Link It will wipe your phone! Make A backup as necessary. Hopefully it can help people go from stock to a custom rom in fewer steps, or recover from a soft brick Let me know if you find an issue with it. It contains factory.rfs, dbdata.rfs, chache.rfs, param.lfs, modem.bin and the cwm_kernel zImage.
KI1 KI2
Update 9/29/11
I'm just going to do one version for KI1/KI2 now that it appears the same kernel will work on both.
Here is the original odin flashable kernel to give you cwm, flash it first to get cwm if you don't already then flash the cwm with init support. Link And my original post with the stock kernel.
Now for the good stuff!
mtcarey modded my kh3 kernel here, to add init.d support, made changes to allow ADB / DDMS to run as root, and symlinks from Busybox to "ls" and "ps" have been removed from /sbin so that DDMS will work correctly. They now fall back to Toolbox links in /system/bin. Thank him in his thread! Awesome work! I think I have all of those mods pulled to ki1/ki2, plus:
+ Juwe11's LMK settings
+ Tweaked Kernel Scheduler Settings
+ Tweaked IO Scheduler Settings
+ Tweaked Ondemand Governor/Sampling Rate
+ Tweaked Readahead to 512 on internal/external SDs (mmcblk blocks)
You can get it here: Link Mirror
If your on stock you will need to flash the odin version to get cwm then the new tweaked one for the init.d scripts, /etc/init.d/S99complete is needed! If you remove it, the phone won't boot!
For any of you losing root when you flash my kernel or for anyone on straight stock, you can get root by flashing ChainsDD root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=682828 or what I mention below.
If your on straight stock and don't already have cwm, flash my odin version first, then ChainsDD from the above link, or:
Grab my cwm zip that I made from ChainsDD and my latest kernels (with tweaks)
KH3 and root
KI1/KI2 and root
Hopefully those will help.
SWEET!
This Man Is A Beast, like the good one on X-men!!

Send it to me, I don't think they suck!
But, yeah, custom stuff on your phone can only make it better.
Awesomeness.....!!!!
Sweet! Nice job y'all!
Any reboot during call issues like on kf1? I know its early on, but wondering if anyone has experienced this on any kh3 version. Thanks for ur work. No cwm has kept me from trying kh3. Can't wait to flash.

i know what crash you are talking about, and i had it too on kf1, but have yet to experience it on h3. that doesnt mean its gone though because i havnt given it the same stressing as f1.
Da Bomb...
Did this break data connection for anyone?
Sent from my Stock KH3/4 2.3.4 Captivate using the XDA Premium App!
I would like to know how to do this. But I will try to do it by myself first.
If I getting stuck please let me PM for your help
I've heard word of "the best" battery life. Can anyone attest to this? I can't believe that from Samsung's track record....
Great work!! Flashing after post. Far as battery life. Every phone and phone user is different. So life varies. Me I crank brightness up use wifi, and GPS always. Like tonight buying a car 260 mile round trip used GPS to get there started with 100% and was. On 26% whenever I got there. Just appreciate that you have a device that makes your life easy and fun! I always turn wifi off and do my best to conserve battery. The captivate is truely a bad ass device. My brother was over last night. And we were playing with phones. He dropped his iPhone 4 and used my cappy cause its better he said

[ROM] 2.3.5 Tweaked stock KJ1 with extended power menu-cwm flashable-and ROOT

*******The new, new KJ2 is out, get it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1297223
I just put together a quick ROM with the new KJ1, its pretty much stock with a little color.
Nothing special, and this will be the only one I do.
I flashed it and it installs and runs fine, no problems so far.
Deodexed, zipaligned, rooted
****Here is the link for root, just flash it with clockwork mod and you are good to go, forgot to add busybox and su to system\xbin.****
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/44737360/Root.zip
And here is the link for those that want the Galaxy S sound back.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/44737360/Power_on.zip
It has
The new Boog KJ1 kernel 1, no init.d. Thanks Boog!!! You're a machine.
extended Power menu
circle battery
crt animation
some color
translucent status bar pulldown
tethering
thats it...
Make sure you are on gingerbread boot loaders and have Boogs KJ1 Kernel tar installed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1294849
Copy the zip file to your sdcard and flash with clockwork mod.
As always, I am not responsible if it messes up your phone.

I know it's been deodexed, but has it been zipaligned?

Hmmm, I added superuser.apk, maybe I will use a newer version, let me try it and I will post a fix in the first post soon.
For some reason the su binary isn't installing, I have to go get ready for work so I won't be able to mess with it until tonight.
I will have to remove the rooted part in the first post.
EDIT:Fixed, forgot to add busybox and su to system\xbin. I thought I did that, but obviously I didn't, all good now...
I also got the errors about my phone being rooted. When i went to update the superuser binary with the superuser app, it gave me a failure... I think the issue is with the binary. Flashed the fuguroot kernel, then re-flashed the boog kernel and all was well. Love the ROM, by the way. Especially the battery icon, and changing colors

Thanks, I don't think busybox is installing either, thats what I get for making changes and not testing things and just taking them for granted it will work.
I'll fix it tonight when I get home...
thats not a big deal! once you get that corrected then i'd be more then happy to use this rom!
Is there a way to get rid of the thunderstorm/rain sound that plays on boot up? I prefer a silent boot up screen (without taking my system volume all the way down)
Edit: Nevermind, found it.

Yeah, I don't know how I got that in there, its a part of Boogs kernel with the new fire boot animation, pretty cool, but not really stock.

Thanks. I'm not really a fan of the fusion theme. Just like keeping as close to stock gingerbread as possible. Is there any significant difference between KK4 and KJ1? My KK4 Odexed Rom was kinda slow on gaming..i just need an all rounded rom..

I believe Fusion has a stock revert theme, if you can't find it in the thread I can upload it for you but in either case I can't do anything til later this evening. I'll hook you up one way or another. So no ICS?
