Now we all have the multi-touch function and I am wondering what everyone else think of it.
What exactly do you guys do with the function? I mean I can only imagine the use of it on two things.
1. Use it to pinch-zoom in browser.
2. Use it in game.
If I am not missing something, what's the use? People have been wanting it for so long and now, when I see it, it's like one of those things that you won't even miss it, when it's gone.
So, where do you use the multi-touch?
That browser pinch nonsense certainly doesn't offer any tangible benefits. What multitouch *does* offer though is a better soft-keyboard experience. With single touch, you need to press a button and release it before pressing down the next one. With multitouch, you can overlap key presses for a more natural typing experience. Of course, this requires a soft keyboard with multitouch awareness.
I must agree. I don't want it, or need it.
I mean I like it but we don't have any keyboard that support the function and 'NO' the original keyboard isn't multi-touch. It is only multi IF it works like the one in Iphone. I have my swype, so Im happy.
I have never wanted it, and don't see a need for it. Now that it is implemented in places people wanted it Apple is one down, however I don't see many using it
meh, i use it when browsing through the internet, so i guess i consider it a pretty nice feature, but thats about it. Its not really a negative feature (its not like it makes the phone unstable or anything) and to me, it's really more of a cosmetic feature rather than a practical one.
Oh, and another use for multitouch: Rub it in the faces of non-rooted G1 users

To me touchscreens just felt too gimmicky, that's one of the reasons I never got an jesusPhone when they first came out. After playing with one, though, I saw that it had merits, but never really warmed up to the multitouch thing. When I got my APD1, and after the cupcake update, I never really used the soft keyboard much. I used to think the physical one was just better, but when I played with a Hero (and Hero builds), it made a world of difference. I saw myself using the HTC soft keyboard a lot more.
I still find two finger operation kind of senseless, I like single-handed operation, and love the double-tap to zoom at the eclair browser, but for things that are best done with two hands (yeah, that too!), like typing, multitouch is a must.
I don't use it because the current hack of the browser with multitouch is unusable: it's slow and doesn't scale linearly but instead by steps.
If it is correctly implemented in 2.1 now, maybe I would use it in the future.

I agree. The 2.1 ROMs, and their multitouch in the browser make me not care about the feature completely. I have not had one ROM that multitouch has ran smoothly for me, unless we (they) haven't yet achieved that?
I have MT (Dwang's rom) but never use it. For the browser, I use Steel browser and prefer its long-press-and-hold zoom system. As others have said, it's mostly useful with soft keyboards.

the official nexus one multitouch looks pretty smooth to me in this video:
http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/02/nexus-one-gets-a-software-update-enables-multitouch/
Yes, if I could have my Dream behave like that, I would use multitouch
I like multitouch in Maps, it's so smooth! Would like the same smoothness in the browser.
I dont use multi-touch most of the time, but I one of those people that likes to have the option rather than it be removed, I mostly use it if I'm bored
Since when do we have multi touch for the g1?

How do we enable it?
I know Hero has it but never seen it used on any other rom or phone besides hero. But I can get multitouch hack for google maps.

i would only use multi touch for a better user experience on soft keyboards. dont really use it on the browser that much
Has anyone managed to get the HTC keyboard installed per chance? I'm quite happy with ultra keyboard (samsung one sucks). Just like to try the HTC version if anyone has managed to get it installed.
I tried to installl it but with no sucess, it crashes
Same for me :-(
Have you tried Swiftkey? Personally I think it is essentially a slightly more refined HTC IME, and always use it on my Desire these days in preference to the stock keyboard.
Regards,
Dave
Couple of things. First, I'm a fan of SwiftKey as well. Second, when installing the HTC_IME on a non sense device you also need to install the clicker.apk or else you'll get force closes.
Just FYI.

It's not going to work regardless. The highest resolution HTC IME_MOD is available for is 800x480 - Our tabs are 1024x600... Won't happen without some major modifications.
Porting
So, is anyone going to have a go at porting it or are the developers all elsewhere?
The Samsung keyboard does suck, that was the first thing I changed. I'm trying out Smart Keyboard which has an HTC skin and so far, I like it.
I've been trying ultra keyboard it's pretty good but it is a bit slow sometimes.
Try building one from here, select the FroYo hi-res version.
May still freak out since there's a resolution mismatch, but it should also be an (hopefully) easy fix for the devs to sort out.
Supporting thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=654179
I can vouch for SwiftKey on the tab. I'm tapping this message out on it now. No issues with resolution.
Good luck.

Swiftkey is a good replacement.
However, I much prefer HTC IME... best on screen keyboard to me.
If anyone can mod it to work on the Tab, I'd love to get it. Even if it's pixellated, it doesn't really matter.
EDIT : Smart Keyboard pro made it all to me. It is perfect and looks exactly like HTC's.
What do you want to see or not see in RoyalGinger V1.5?
Like I said in the actual RoyalGinger thread on the Development page we wanted to pull the community and see what you guys like and dont like and what you want to see and what you dont want to see. I know at least for me I might try other Roms especially for testing but I always come back to RoyalGinger, This little red head has in my opinion everything a Rom needs and everything a Rom user wants. So just to make it more of the Peoples Rom we wanted to see what you guys like and what you guys dont like.
So please keep it short and simple if you want to see a specific thing like a Theme or a Mod please include the link to the thread.
It will help us find what we are looking for and get to making your wishes happen. If you want something just let us know we will honestly try our hardest to meet every wish of the community for V1.5. If we dont get your idea into 1.5 I will let you know and let you know if it is possible and if it will be coming on a later release.
Thank You all for your support.

Do you mean the stock clock that flips with the Weather? if so I cant include the one made by HTC cause that is a Sense Only item and it is not Open Source, But I am pretty sure I can accommodate your request with something. So great suggestion it will be in the next release.

Yes, it is that one. No wonder the question has been asked a few times on the net (when I Googled) and no one seems to know.
Ok, no problem. There are a few other apps out there that are similar. But not quite. Thanks though.
Top request if at all possible would be the original camera. Picture quality is better and speed is wayyyy faster.
DSP Manager
Car Dock (even though it’s available as apks)
Genius Button (I personally like it)
Ability to mute camera sound

Personally, I like this Rom as is... Though I moved on to using Royal Mint as my daily just because of the sense look... Love the work TeamRoyal... I have the zip, and a backup with all my most used apps for EVERY Rom I have ran across with the TeamRoyal name on it...

1. Ability to receive MMS view like on stock froyo.
I hit download, and it rarely works. Stock it normally already has picture showing, instead of hitting download.
2. A big pickup, although i don't think it is possible, would be to add date along with clock in status bar.
3. Calendar similar to stock calendar, which is default month view.
4. I love the themes with battery display % options.
BTW, you guys are most excellent!
royalknight, hope you gets to feeling better, brohim....
all in all, fantastic rom, but.... (and since you're asking), this is what i would like added:
(1) stock mt4g calendar (pink in color i believe) because there's more options than the one included with RG (ie. ability to have agenda view when executed). if it's tied to sense and can't be ported to RG, then no worries.
(2) use of the genius button with dragon dictation (already mentioned). i'm not sure if i'm the minority here, but i used that app a lot.
(3) desk dock/car dock (already mentioned).
(4) stock camera (already mentioned).
not sure if there's anything else that this rom needs as i'm sure the more you add, the better chance it will become slower...
The problem with the "stock" apps you are all referring to from the original rom, is that they require sense frameworks to function. Unless HTC open sources sense, we may never be able to make it happen. (doesn't mean we can't try )
I think this should stay as close to stock Google as possible.
By trying to add in all this sense stuff... why don't you guys just use a sense rom and install the gingerbread launcher. That's basically what you want this rom to be.
I enjoy this rom because of how minimal it is. Please keep sense junk out.

People's request in AOSP roms are always sense related add on's. Launcher pro has some good alternatives for sense widgets and so forth. But I agree, keep this rom bare and clean in AOSP standards. Although I would like it if you guys added Torch app back on
And I do have a question, I love the rover theme included, but I feel like that actual battery percentage decreases my battery life by a lot everytime I use that theme. Any way you can take out that battery percentage out in the middle of that circle?

The battery life decreases due to the broadcast message required every time it changes a percentage and has to call a new image to be displayed.

man bummer... i love that theme but thats a killer for me. anyway you knwo how to take it out?
A completely blacked out (inverted them would be really nice) Kind of like the the terminal settigns, but with maybe more feel and texture than those. I do a lot of night use, that would be good. I like the terminal ones, but some things completely get lost in the transition. Now I am asking for too much!
This rom is so customizable, and now that I have a clean install, the fc have for the most part disappeared, and I have not even thought about flashing stock, like I normally did.

10-4, just wasn't sure how feasible it was... it's not a deal breaker if none of those happen, but he asked... have a good one, option...
thought the stock camera was a part of the sense framework as well, could be wrong.
My main request is to have a ROM specific theme. I switch ROMs a lot and after flashing lots of ROMs now on different phones (I'm the go-to guy at work now), I like the aesthetic touches a lot of devs put on their ROMs. You guys are adding more and more tweaks in this regard, so I doubt this even needs to be a request, but it's really cool to see those extra touches. After seeing gingerbread on so many different phones now, I've come to learn how unimpressive it is visually. Using the theme engine could then satisfy the themers out there, giving them the option to use what they want, but allow you guys to offer the Royal Theme that makes the ROM your own. I've also seen things like boot animation/fonts/optional app install scripts written into the settings. Things like that offer customization within the ROM and help it to stand out from AOSP GB.
Hopefully our tabs see this soon!

That would make navigation so much easier. Hence making it easier to install custom ROM's.

I don't know if i would want that for Clockwork as it looks (though, a stock Honeycomb ICS bar for the time being would be cool, with time and battery)... But TWRP and 4EXT Recovery Touch both have touchscreen versions and they're pretty damned good too, they trump any other Recovery. In fact I'm using 4EXT Touch on my myTouch 4G.

Having a touch based version would introduce numerous mistakes, but i would probably enjoy it if they made confirmation dialogues. Making it similar to layout as AndroZip or astro file manager would be amazing. I am not sure if they can do this as they don't have access to these UI components, but maybe they will find a way.

It could have somemistakes, but it would make navigation through CWM a lot easier. The UI would have to change though to be more accustomed to touch. The simplest thing to do is to space out the text and add an extra confirm or cancel to avoid accidental mishaps.

So theres already almost every launcher available right now on any device, TouchWiz (Why you would want that is beyond me), the Xperia Launcher which is actually really sweet, and the LG G2 launcher has been added recently with an array of features, is there anyone that can port the Sense5 launcher from the HTC One, i know the widgets and things like that are part of the actual framework implemented by HTC so that prob wont work but apart from that is there a way to port over the base launcher atleast? Every other launcher can be done so why not Sense?
P.S. Please dont say why dont i just use nova/apex with a Sense theme or anything like that, they dont look as good, look out of place with different screen sizes and they dont work in the same way, it annoys me when people always say that :S

It's nearly impossible , tho some guys from s4 managed to port the whole system lol , you might wanna take a look if they could share the info how they did it , tho don't expect even if it gets ported it'll ever work , most of the stuff are and will be broken , mainly hardware related stuff.
