Many seem to want the HTC Desire ROM for Sense UI just because of the HTC apps and widgets. People like me prefer the Stock experience with the HTC apps and widgets installed.
Some of the reasons for this include the preference of the consistent Googley look and feel, smoother scrolling on stock apps, and many other objective and subjective reasons.
Modaco provides an Online Kitchen for making custom HTC Desire port ROMs for N1. On the kitchen, you can choose to not include the Sense/Rosie app in the ROM. This is a huge step to creating the stock look and feel. How do we install the custom launcher without the need to bake a custom ROM with the Online Kitchen? Will this also convert the overall look and feel to the stock one?
Because we can't install HTC apps and widgets without the whole HTC Sense UI framework, how do we achieve seemingly having a stock ROM look and feel + HTC apps and widgets?

Code:
adb shell rm /system/app/Rosie.apk
will drop Rosie and give you your standard launcher. I highly recommend grabbing 'Root Explorer' from the Market and perusing the /system/app dir.

Just wondering, great sir, why did you decide to drop Rosie?
edit: oops. I thought, you meant, you're going to drop Rosie on the HTC Desire port ROM. I misunderstood. Sorry

I was able to drop Rosie.
This can be done by simple using Home Switcher (an app on the Market) to use "Launcher" instead of "Rosie" as the Home app. However, HTC widgets can't be used without Rosie. HTC apps are fine without it, though
Still a step forward.
EDIT:
I also noticed that things are still kinda laggy. Scrolling the stock app list isn't as smooth as how it is on stock or other ROMs. Probably, the lag is caused by the ROM. It's still in alpha so we'll just have to wait. Still very early now
I figured I was in the minority here with zero interest in senseUI. I quite like the stock look/feel of android 2.1 but can fully appreciate the user experience the widgets and such inside sense provides.
I do wonder if all of the rom creators are going to jump on the senseUI bandwagon and move away from the stock experience leaving those of us who rather not touch HTC's bastardization out in the cold Thankfully Paul seems to be keeping everyone in mind with his roms...I wonder what Cyan is going to do with future releases...
...this post contains zero useful information
Strange is, that on Hero (with SenseUI) everybody wanted a stock rom without it, and on Nexus (without SenseUI, you know) everybody wants these lame senseUI.
I like this smooth on stock Android, hoping, that Paul and cyanogen creates there good stuff, based on real Nexus code wthout anything of the HTC stuff.
I dn't know, why there is so much hype about these Desire ROMs for Nexus.
I belive it will be better to make the stock ROMs better...

2,5 things interesting me in Desire rom:
1) HTC PDF Viewer
2) highlight text for copy (like on iphone)
3) flash player in web browser (it's 0,5 thing, because work not well on all websites.... )
I hate the rest... (after test Paul roms) it's just my modest opinion!

Because we would like to have some sense app on stock rom! not to have Desire rom with stock apps!
You make a great work but for my daily use, there to much bug for now... (bluetooth, flash, missed app in market, etc...)
I'm sure in next weeks I could make another good try on your rom!
PS: did you see my private msg on Modaco? thanks!
Dislike sense UI love the stock look.
But HTC'S framework do have quite a few added extras that would make the stock 2.1 awesome all around.
one being the select text format similar to the iphone. The camera on desire is 100x way more attractive then the stock one. The htc camera makes you feel like your holding a 2010 product. The stock camera feels and looks like is a polaroid cam.
To have desire with everything it brings widgets, apps & have the stock look feel and dialer is my DESIRE.
The dialer on HTC'S is awful. I am so used to stock 2.1 contacts app is just awesome.

you cant run the widgets and thats what the OP was talking about.
I'd like to use the stock contacts and dialer because the HTC dialer doesn't let me dial out using my google voice number.

I'll give you numbers one and two. At least the nexus will be getting (as far as we all know anyways) full flash (10.1) while the desire thus far has flash lite...
These three are not enough to keep me stomaching seuseui though.
Its all a matter of opinion on what you like. I was trying to get a lot of what the senseui does natively already on my stock 2.1 so it makes things easier for me. I can't see all that much of a difference in stock 2.1 vs. senseui in terms of how it looks anyways. Just a couple small visual differences.
The senseui has a lot to offer over stock. The apps, widgets, clock, lock screen that allows control over music, better copy and paste, browser is better, ability to call someone from any screen and not have to worry about finding phone icon, flat scrolling for me in programs is better than a 3d scroll, dark status bar unlike the white stock,
Most of this can be done through market apps and or tweaks done to a stock rom but this seems to do it better all in one. The things senseui does not have that are on stock I just move over.

I only meant that with senseui the phone icon follows you through all 7 pages as opposed to the stock 2.1 where you have to click on the actual phone icon to launch the dialer.

Simple solution for that really...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=630659
Obviously this mimics the way sense handles things but such a simple mod removes yet another reason to change the entire interface.
I don't find the sense ui intuitive, nor do I like it as a whole much in the same way I don't like apple's ui or find it intuitive
But as you said before, it's all a matter of opinion. I assume if I were to force myself to acclimate to sense, I would get used to it. This all becomes a moot point though if/when flash 10.1 hits for our phones and not for the desire/sense. People will have to choose between full flash (assuming that the desire sticks with flash lite) and sense...unless someone manages to build a nexus-centric rom with sense baked in
how to make stock launcher
made this thread a wee bit earlier, its the best recourse for those who want a stock launcher.
it wont let me paste a forum link but if you google search
stock froyo launcher htc desire
its the first one that comes up.
please link this to other forums, im not an active forum member/ poster but a lot of people have been looking for this.
since i saw some thread saying it can be rooted, means that we can flash it to a new rom say like HTC sense UI? (if there's any)
i like sense ui better than touchwiz, so i probably want one if it exist
would be appreciated if anybody knows a link to the rom also
I do not know of any roms for the tab yet.
Regarding sence i seriously doubt there will be a rom in the future since its not supposed to run on the tabs resolution. It wouldnt feel right anyways without beeing optimized fot tablet use, the widgets would be ridiculously big (tried with launcher pro widgets) (-:
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
Sense would be fugly on the Tab :|
lol, fugly is it?
somehow i still see this one as a huge smartphone than a tab, yet
unless maybe the release of gingerbread will make it feels like a tablet more
anyway, the more the merrier
it wouldnt kill for someone to actually develop a different rom for 7inch tab, or maybe after htc actually release one of his own htc tab
thanks anyway ^^
Before we get custom ROMs, someone needs to work out how to get a custom bootloader and/or recovery onto the device so we can write to the lowlevel filesystem. As of yet, this hasn't happened.
If you want Sense then I suggest getting LauncherPro Plus as their widgets are very similar to the Sense ones. You can also track down a copy of the .APK for "LovelyWidgets" which is a clone of the HTC flipclock. You won't get the in-app changes, but you can make the launcher look a lot like Sense at least.
Also, seeing how much work it takes people to port Sense between extremely similar devices (HTC Desire & the Nexus One for example), there would be a lot more work involved porting it to an unfamiliar system with a screen resolution that AFAIK doesn't exist on any other Sense-based devices, so as well as porting things, they'd need to rescale some of the graphics to make them fit which might not look too pretty.
If you want Sense, then you might wanna either wait until someone _maybe_ ports it, or until HTC release a tablet of their own, which is surely just a matter of time.
ah, i see
is launcher pro gonna affect my original system and i have to root my tab 1st to make it usable?
does it works well on 7" and tab res?
i'll google about launcher pro and see what they looks like, thanks
The pro plus widgets are pretty ugly as well. In any case, something will come along shortly, just you wait.
well, since i failed to get my galaxy tab today, i'll wait for sure lol
only 1000 unit sold for today only and the line is up to car parking area, geez
gonna wait for when it touch the stores then
bad luck

No, you don't have to root your Tab to use LP. Just download it from the Market (when Google get's down from their high chair and fixes it so you can actually USE it...) and install. It doesn't replace anything. If you don't select default home, you can even switch between LP and TouchWiz with the Home button.
IMO, the LP widgets look good on the Tab, not "fugly" at all. I'm happy using LP+ as it is, but it will be better when LP manages to support the Tab more fully (using 5x5, 5x6 or perhaps even 6x7 grid of icons?)

Yes, infact I can. I tried that on the SGS and it looked horrible so I didn't try it on the Tab. However, after another member suggested that also, I tried and it isn't that bad. Infact it looks quite good and I'm now using a 6x5 grid on my Tab. So, thanks for the suggestion to the two of you

Have you guys tried to change the LCD density on the tab? It makes everything smaller and gives it a high res look. That might look really good on the tab. On the galaxy s you can get rootexplorer and edit /system/build.prop there is a setting "ro.sf.lcd_density=240". When lowered to 180 or 200 on the galaxy s it makes it feel like a tablet and makes changing the rows and columns to something like 5x6 look alot nicer. One of y'all with the Tab should try it out and post back.
Oh yea you have to reboot after edit as well.

Check out this cool 3D interface for the Nexus S. I installed using Dropbox On my wife's Nexus S and was so impressed I tried it on my N1 and it seems to be working fine. So smooth... just like the video.

MOD EDIT: This is an unauthorized and leaked beta build. As such it is considered warez and has been removed.
You have to have 2.3.3
Wow, that's great! Thank you so much!
But aren't there any settings to configure it?
I'm still playing with it but I find the N1 menu key works on most screens and some screens have there own menu key at the top right.
tank you very nice
Looks great, downloaded onto N1 but cant access it. How did you apply this to the N1
Thanks
Press home.
What's 3D about it exactly anyway? Just a bunch of homescreens? Quite funky though.

At first it doesn't look like there are but it's actually pretty customizable. You can re-arrange and/or remove panels by pressing menu and then choosing Manage Panels. If you long press on any icon (Not in 3D) you can then press the arrows to view the different layouts of certain applications/settings. Some items like Tools have an additional editing button (Available when the arrows can be pressed) which allows you to move certain items around or add/remove them.
It's a nice launcher but the 3D interface seems very touchy, is anyone else finding that also?
Pretty sure this is about to get locked.

Hello I just wanted to let everyone know I tested this on my nexus one running cm7 rc1 which runns off of android 2.3.2 and it works with no problem.
Would keep it on my phone but just for showing it off.. since it is pretty cool put otherwise it eats up ram like crazy!
Might be warez, it's not even realeased yet. http://spb.com/android-software/mobileshell/
Edit: It's in a private beta, so the version you posted is probably a leaked one. http://getandroidstuff.com/spb-mobile-shell-android-50-home-replacement-app-hits-beta-sign/
Looks very impressive but it's not for us minimalists! Great to show off to your friends though
Well, its not for the rest of us here anyway until cm7 come with 2.3.3.
Im not trying it yet but from what i see its to much animation. I still prefer the Miui interface.

What do you want to see or not see in RoyalGinger V1.5?
Like I said in the actual RoyalGinger thread on the Development page we wanted to pull the community and see what you guys like and dont like and what you want to see and what you dont want to see. I know at least for me I might try other Roms especially for testing but I always come back to RoyalGinger, This little red head has in my opinion everything a Rom needs and everything a Rom user wants. So just to make it more of the Peoples Rom we wanted to see what you guys like and what you guys dont like.
So please keep it short and simple if you want to see a specific thing like a Theme or a Mod please include the link to the thread.
It will help us find what we are looking for and get to making your wishes happen. If you want something just let us know we will honestly try our hardest to meet every wish of the community for V1.5. If we dont get your idea into 1.5 I will let you know and let you know if it is possible and if it will be coming on a later release.
Thank You all for your support.

Yes, it is that one. No wonder the question has been asked a few times on the net (when I Googled) and no one seems to know.
Ok, no problem. There are a few other apps out there that are similar. But not quite. Thanks though.
Top request if at all possible would be the original camera. Picture quality is better and speed is wayyyy faster.
DSP Manager
Car Dock (even though it’s available as apks)
Genius Button (I personally like it)
Ability to mute camera sound

1. Ability to receive MMS view like on stock froyo.
I hit download, and it rarely works. Stock it normally already has picture showing, instead of hitting download.
2. A big pickup, although i don't think it is possible, would be to add date along with clock in status bar.
3. Calendar similar to stock calendar, which is default month view.
4. I love the themes with battery display % options.
BTW, you guys are most excellent!
royalknight, hope you gets to feeling better, brohim....
all in all, fantastic rom, but.... (and since you're asking), this is what i would like added:
(1) stock mt4g calendar (pink in color i believe) because there's more options than the one included with RG (ie. ability to have agenda view when executed). if it's tied to sense and can't be ported to RG, then no worries.
(2) use of the genius button with dragon dictation (already mentioned). i'm not sure if i'm the minority here, but i used that app a lot.
(3) desk dock/car dock (already mentioned).
(4) stock camera (already mentioned).
not sure if there's anything else that this rom needs as i'm sure the more you add, the better chance it will become slower...
The problem with the "stock" apps you are all referring to from the original rom, is that they require sense frameworks to function. Unless HTC open sources sense, we may never be able to make it happen. (doesn't mean we can't try )
I think this should stay as close to stock Google as possible.
By trying to add in all this sense stuff... why don't you guys just use a sense rom and install the gingerbread launcher. That's basically what you want this rom to be.
I enjoy this rom because of how minimal it is. Please keep sense junk out.

People's request in AOSP roms are always sense related add on's. Launcher pro has some good alternatives for sense widgets and so forth. But I agree, keep this rom bare and clean in AOSP standards. Although I would like it if you guys added Torch app back on
And I do have a question, I love the rover theme included, but I feel like that actual battery percentage decreases my battery life by a lot everytime I use that theme. Any way you can take out that battery percentage out in the middle of that circle?

The battery life decreases due to the broadcast message required every time it changes a percentage and has to call a new image to be displayed.

man bummer... i love that theme but thats a killer for me. anyway you knwo how to take it out?
A completely blacked out (inverted them would be really nice) Kind of like the the terminal settigns, but with maybe more feel and texture than those. I do a lot of night use, that would be good. I like the terminal ones, but some things completely get lost in the transition. Now I am asking for too much!
This rom is so customizable, and now that I have a clean install, the fc have for the most part disappeared, and I have not even thought about flashing stock, like I normally did.

10-4, just wasn't sure how feasible it was... it's not a deal breaker if none of those happen, but he asked... have a good one, option...
thought the stock camera was a part of the sense framework as well, could be wrong.
My main request is to have a ROM specific theme. I switch ROMs a lot and after flashing lots of ROMs now on different phones (I'm the go-to guy at work now), I like the aesthetic touches a lot of devs put on their ROMs. You guys are adding more and more tweaks in this regard, so I doubt this even needs to be a request, but it's really cool to see those extra touches. After seeing gingerbread on so many different phones now, I've come to learn how unimpressive it is visually. Using the theme engine could then satisfy the themers out there, giving them the option to use what they want, but allow you guys to offer the Royal Theme that makes the ROM your own. I've also seen things like boot animation/fonts/optional app install scripts written into the settings. Things like that offer customization within the ROM and help it to stand out from AOSP GB.
Is it just me, or is touchwiz on a tablet actually really nice :L
i know it slows the tab down, but the widgets icons and notification bar r really minimalist and generally not bad looking!
And the fact that stock touchwiz hc roms come with polaris office and a pen memo means that i dont really mind the occasional lag it has :L
Im also looking forward to the ics touchwiz build aswell.

Well, there are a few things I didn't like about TW:
1. Bright settings menu. The whole tab felt that it should have a dark theme and in most places it did. But then there was the settings menu that feels out of place.
2. The statusbar is annoying. I don't know how often I accidentally made a Screenshot when I didn't want to. Or brought up the pop up bar which contains alps I never use.

Ok yeh i get it about the settings. But the screenshot button is useful. And im sure in the newer versions of tw u can have custom apps in the pop up bar?

is there a way to change those apps on the pop up bar? That would actually be useful if you could customize that.

Having a Screenshot function available is nice, but I agree. But I prefer the way the ICS Rom I am using implements it: hidden in the power menu. I mean, why would you need it readily available at all times?

Im not sure that stock ics has the screenshot function in the power menu. Its only added in later on through custom roms and tweaks such as enabling it in rom control :L

Yeah, but in the same respect I am not even sure if the things I complain about a HC or TW features

Haha fair enough. Tbh HC was a bit of a fail on googles part. It felt rushed and ill prepared. Hopefully ics will iron out everything.

Honeycomb is a very good concept but a "beta version" software: slow, laggy, unstable and incomplete in several ways... I got my G.Tab 10.1 in January and 2 weeks later I flashed (and kept updated ever since) ICS KANG and loving it.
That said, I do like the added Samsung apps and functionality (on both my Note and my G.Tab 10.1) so as soon as it comes out I will flash Samsung's ICS update.
The Note is already great as it is on the latest LB1 Gingerbread ROM so I don't mind waiting a little more for ICS BUT I really can't wait to get Samsung's ICS ROM for the Tab 10.1 and pretty pissed off that they can't seem to be able to give a less vague date.
I hope they make it up to me by adding the split screen funcionality shown off on the Note 10.1 and a revamped note app which syncs across my Note's S Memo app and Outlook notes..
I think touchwiz on 3.X is amazing, really improves the experience. I cringe whenever I see the stock notification bar (I have to open it, hit settings and then hit settings again to actually open the settings compared to open it and hit settings once in touchwiz).
If touchwiz is that amazing, what's HTC sense? Sense is great on both phones and tabs. Look at the HTC jetstream, HTC did a much better job then Samsung.
I don't mind Touchwiz. I like some of the little extras, etc. Stock Honeycomb is still fugly so TW helps a tad, but since it's so light, not much. ICS is a huge improvement on phones, but not so much in tablets. It's bascially what Honeycomb should have been in the first place.
I'd rather have HTC Sense, but since HTC never had any good wifi tablets last year, it just wasn't in the cards. I will say, the GT 10.1 has been a good tablet and does everything I need it to do, but I won't be buying anymore Samsung products like.... um.... Ever. My next tab will be W8 and probably from Asus or something.
I have never liked HTC Sense at all, Touchwiz is a great compromise between adding functionality and staying as close as possible at the "Android experience" (which keeps on getting better and better). Ideally I would like to have a consistent experience across all Android devices with, at best, "touches" added by the different makers and design and hardware to differentiate among them. Sense goes totally against this.
