Google buys Motorola... - Atrix 4G General

Google buys Motorola Mobility, will this mean that the Atrix and other Moto phones will get faster updates?
And possibly run better being that they contol the hardware and software like apple and Iphones?

1) please search before you post there have been a few threads on this
2) it is a possibility we'll get updates faster, but they said Google and Motorola mobility will act as seperate companies

Yes that has a lot to do with it but its also to compete with Apple. If you the OS and hardware work together it creates a seamless design. Thats why Apple does so well with the iphone.

Just remember that an Android phone has more power than a jail-broken apple phone/device. Think about it this way, if they don't patch stuff like that... other countries like china will use them against us and attack the USA. They must patch. When someone can HACK A PHONE THROUGH A SIMPLE website, that isn't very secure. When we do it, it takes actually doing it manually. knowing what we are doing sortof.
Well, i for one, am sad to see this new patch ruin jailbreakme.com. I used to have so much fun wandering through the Apple stores in Dallas and quickly jailbreaking all their devices.

I can pretty much 100% guarantee you that the average selling price of the iPhone is significantly higher than the average selling price of Android phones. This includes highend phones like the EVO, Droid x, etc. The iPhone 4 is always $200 (same as the regular retail price of high end Android phones at launch) subsidized in the US and constant at similar price over seas. How many sales, first and third party promotions, and drops in prices happen to highend Android phone? At times you can get highend Android phones for free or a couple of cents! Then add big selling low end lines like the Optimus One, and smaller lines are even more popular in low income countries. Look at what's selling there.
Yeah, that's what I thought, you again fail at thinking things through.

Google Pulls Support For CDMA Devices

Yea, that's bad. Basically it boils down to this scenario:
Google: Sure you can have ICS on ____ device
CDMA carrier Sprint/Verizon: Well, we'd like over our skin on ICS
Google: We'd like to keep it stock Google
Carriers: We want the skin...
Google: No [and cue that article]
Says its based on the software to make it 'fully functional' Because CDMA device needs carrier binaries to make them work.
There is no way in hell US carriers will open up their binary drivers. This just hurts users on Verizon/Sprint. Does this mean the next Nexus will be GSM only?

Who said it was Sprint only? It ranges to all CDMA made phones not one specific CDMA carrier.
My understanding is that this is Google only.
It has to do with the trying to keep Android compliant with the GPL, and the companies making the CDMA radios are making it difficult so Google pulled out. It doesn't mean no more Android phones on Sprint or Verizon (that would be a bit silly) but it does mean no more Nexus phones on CDMA. It could also mean Motorola will be pulling out of the CDMA market as well.
Then again, this could all be a plan by Google to force the companies to release the drivers. It wouldn't be the first time Google has played hardball with companies. If Google and Motorola both leave, this puts pressure on Sprint and Verizon to push the manufacturers to release the drivers as it leaves them at a severe disadvantage compared to GSM carriers. It's good in a way, but could have some bad consequences down the road if it backfires.
It's nothing to really worry about guys if i can find the article I'll post it but Google came back and clarified why they did it exactly and it was to do with how CDMA phones have certain files stored for them and it caused an issue with compiling from AOSP and all. They still are pushing straight updates to cdma nexus phones as usual too.

Apple really doesn't realize that a lot of Android users will not switch to Apple, even if the iPhone is the last smartphone on earth. I'd happily go back to a basic flip phone even if someone offered to pay me to take an iPhone

well, seeing that litigation doesnt happen without leeches and leeches dont litigate without money, this should go on for another decade or so considering the 1.5 billion settlement.
These actions from apple are what are known as cunning, and cunning is nothing more than the attempt to take down anyone around you while you are collapsing.

What was the point of Google's purchase of Motorola if they keep having LG and others make their phones and tablets?

Because Motorola is owned by Google, they gave up their rights to make Nexus devices. Each year manufacturers bid against one another to see who will make the next Nexus, and it wouldn't be fair to others if Google used Motorola because they own them.

Even though Motorola is owned by Google, they're still two different companies. Motorola does not own the Nexus line, it's still a Google device. So Motorola will continue to make their phones, I.e. Droid and whatever else, with little involvement from Google.

Many companies purchase other companies, but continue to run them as separate entities. Google put some of their people into management positions at Motorola, but have yet to swallow the company whole. As far as the Nexus line, Google wanted to keep its stable of manufacturer partners happy by keeping the bidding process open to all. Motorola is free to bid along with other companies, but will receive no special consideration.

Patents simple as that.
Google now has thousands of patents that it can defend its self with or use as a bargaining tool.
I think it's totally possible that Motorola will make a nexus phone in the near future.
There's no reason why they wouldn't.
Maybe Motorola is trying to keep a small footprint right now because they want to gauge the success of the x phone first.
The markets are already flooded with android phones. LG probably isn't going to make much profit on a phone without an established carrier to help market it. You have to also consider that the phone carriers have new plans that allow people to upgrade their phones more frequently. This makes a non-contract phone even LESS attractive.

Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app

Moto X Sales figures to 1.4 millions based on this positing:

Now i made this conclusion based on this link:
500,000 from Late August to November.
http://www.theverge.com/2013/11/12/5097532/moto-x-only-500000-devices-reportedly-sold
900,000 in quater 1 2014 globally
http://www.cnet.com/news/motorola-to-shutter-texas-factory-building-moto-x/
Which equal 1.4 millions devices on Q1 2014,Q3 2013.
Now, Motorola or google want to sell it Texas factory what will the Moto x2 or Moto x+1 will look like?
As the deal is over by December of this year.
You guys posted and telling me or informed us with your opinion or conclusion to Motorola second devices that sell over million that they posted in sales figures since the original droid.
Samsung seeks over 10 mil and HTC half of that with much greater margins. It's all business, btw I don't think Google ever intended to ever keep Moto they just wanted the patents.
