Asurion ROCKS!!! - Epic 4G General

As I posted here, Asurion said they would send me a brand new phone and that's exactly what they did! Just as if I had got it at sprint. It came in its sealed factory Sprint/Samsung Epic 4G box including the manuals, headset, battery, sd card w/adapter, charger, and usb cable. I'm really surprised! Lets hope it works. I'll post an update soon.

my refurb came in an Asurion box with a cheap little piece of tape covering the phone. The new one also doesn't have a sticker in the battery compartment that says "Asurion Remanufactured" or the square white water detection sticker. This one is definitely new.

Id be suprised if this was true huh maybe pigs fly. Why were you SOOO SPECIAL to get a new phone from asurion?

Nope not at all. My refurb came in an assurion box. No manual, headphones, cords, any of that extra junk.

It depends on their inventory. They have sent me new phones in the past.

the last replacement I got came in a cheap brown box with a phone in it with some yellow screen guards on it. it did not come in an epic retail box

I can say that I have been issued a NIB replacement from Asurion in the past. Not surprised at all.

Also, if you didn't read the post I referred to in the op, this is the second phone from Asurion. The first they sent me was a refurb and is malfunctioning. I told them about the malfunction and then I told them it had scratches so they said they would send me a new one.

I've only ever been sent new phones from asurion anytime I've ever used them (about 4-5 claims). Guess I've been lucky?

Either way I would never accept a refurbished phone. I bought a new phone and if it's defective I want a new phone.
P.S. Asurion still sucks LOL

Just dail ##786# and look it will tell you if its new or a refurb

This is right. Refurbs certainly do not come in brand new packaging, with accessories. My last replacement did and its kick ass, brand spankin, new. With charger headphones and sdcard. The one before? A brown asurion box with a battery and an sd card. They didn't even give me th right size I got an 8gb. Oh and when I had my hero replaced guess what? Brown box as well. Nows who's bubble has been bursted?
Cd's or tapes?

I've also gotten brand new Asurion replacements, 2 out of 4 with my Moment and 2 out of 3 with my Epic. Refurbs have always come in the bastard plain empty brown box lol

My sad story: Broken Nexus One =( [pics]

Got out of the car today when I pulled up the gym and had my Nexus One on my lap.
It fell.
The screen broke.
I'm sad.
Luckilly TMo insurance covers it through Asurion and the deductible is only $130.
If my stupid car dock had arrived on time today this would have never happened! LOL

Silly question: did you have a screen protector on it or no? I'm guessing no since the screen broke, and any decent screen protector actually absorbs shock impacts and prevent a LOT of would-be cracks...
That damn on the lap thing gets a lot of peoples phones when they get out of the car...
My wife's dropped her tp2 like 5 times that way.. luckily.no broken screen...

I always keep it in that and I have the feeling that would give it some good protection too. I bought a BSE (bestskinsever) full body protector, and I couldn't get used to it (not to mention it didn't slide out of the slip in case easily making it difficult to answer a call quickly) but I will use the screen protector.

it's funny to hear that mobile call-centers says lot of lies also in other countries of the world. I'm italian; here in Italy some people think about suicide when they must ask help with some mobile call-center and have no other ways to solve problems... LOL

When did you get yours, because I got mine at launch and they told me that same thing. However I kept checking back with T-Mobile, HTC, and Assurion everyday, until it was offered. I mean Assurion has Google as a supported manufacturer on their website specifically for the N1.
Update:
Asurion was actually PLEASANT to work with! They did ask some odd questions to "verify" that I wasn't trying to get a cheap/free phone from someone else's plan. I finished my claim last night at 6:30pm PST and my phone landed in Seattle from KY at 3:30AM today and left Redmond shipping center this morning at 6:45AM! Yay!
I'm still not going to get a screen protector or a case. I got my car dock so a case will make it not fit and slipping it on and off is not fun. Screen protectors have never sat well with me. I don't like the texture it adds. I have sweaty fingers/hands so most screen protectors are no bueno for me. I hadn't had a single drop since I got the phone in January so I don't think I'll have another one (I get drunk EVERY weekend too) plus i have the car dock now so no more lap drops!
Yeah I thought Asurion would be a pain in the ass but they were easy to work with (no connection to them lol). $130 deductible is very affordable.

I hate how badly HTC tempers some of their phones [screen that is]
I remember when I got my first TP2, broke screen on first drop... I had a replacement,... That I still have... I treat it like trash! And lemme tell you this thing is sturdy. My Evo... Has been abused, dropped, fell straight on the curb of the sidewalk (right onto the raised part and onto the floor). Only visible thing is a tiny dot of glass that chipped off the lower bottom right.. This one is sturdy as hell too...
this was my first time dropping the phone, I only had it for about two weeks.
The screen is like scratch proof but not shatter proof, it should be the other way around at least (hopefully both). I tried using my keys to scratch out a hole in the glass so i could take it out and see if i could get a replacement glass but the keys wouldnt even scratch as hard as i tried
i died a little inside when i saw that picture. if that happened to my phone...i would probably cry
Dang that really sux. I was so scared when I dropped my Evo at work from a height of 30 ft and lucky for me I just had sum dirt in the kick stand but that was the day I added insurance on my bill. I'm sure if u have insurance they will give u a new screen as there was a time with my instinct I broke the screen 3 times in a month and Sprint fixed it no questions asked

That sucks man . Well if you don't have insurance, they sell replacement touch screen digitizers on eBay. Not sure how easy it is to replace.

Most sprint repair stores are stocking glass/screen replacements. Just go down there and get it fixed, generally they can do them in 15-20 minutes
actually im within the first 30 days, so im taking the phone back to a store and swapping it for a brand new one. which seems like a great deal to me.
if you are rooted you will probably have to unroot... but you already knew that
I just flashed back to the stock rom i found in the evo wiki, that should be good correct ?

You should be good with that. In my experience I've had no trouble taking rooted devices in to them. I always make sure at the very least it appears stock when they power it up.
I called them and they are the ones that suggested i just return it and get a new one since it's within thirty days. I called the store too, not sprint (sometimes they like to contradict each other).

Yes, but its also possible for you to be within 30 days and some stores give you a refurbished and treat is as new...it happened before..
And yes after 30 days you get refurbished usually BUT there are those lucky who get a brand new one.

last I heard sprint doesnt have any refurb Epics yet and they are still giving out NEW Epics. Also if you go into a sprint repair store they do not charge you anything to replace it as long as you have insurance..

That is absolutely not true. I am on Sero Premium, which requires apparently some special activation process that my sprint store didn't know about. 3 TEP replacements in a week all with "non functional radios" (ie they didn't activate it correctly), all refurbs. Finally they figured it out and just replaced the screen on my original epic with parts cannibalized from one of my 3 TEP replacements.
My first replacement was new dunno Whuts gonna happen this time I. Don't want a broke down ****box LOL I honestly want to trade it for an evo

4th epic..? dang im still on my 1st and my only issue has been a dead pixel (red right in center) but i only see it on a white screen if i really look for it.

Other than possibly frying the nand memory with a bad odin flash, or running it over what do you guys do to your phones? I work in a computer shop/recycling center and I carry my phone in my pocket. I run into stuff, hit it with 37in crts, drop it in open computer cases out of my shirt pocket and the drop to the concete only nicked the corner otherwise its perfect.

Mine has been dropped, a lot, it's gotten more than one accidental boot heel, I've even dropped it in a puddle. This, as well as feverishly hacking it... and, as annoyed as I am regarding froyo.. I must say this phone has held up very very well.

WTF ATT!!

So I got my phone today and low and behold I have some serious (at least to me) blemishes and scratches on the back. Some pics below. I know they may not seem too bad but come on, this is a brand new phone, and unexceptable if you ask me. So I actually go to my nearby ATT store to see if they have stock already so they can swap it out and they don't have any yet. You could see it in the eyes of the workers that they hadn't seen one yet. Borderline oogling over it.
Anyways, they say call ATT and they'll send me another. I call and low and behold they CAN send me a replacement (not overnight mind you, I'd have to pay for that), but as I had to remind them, there is a backorder for it so they couldn't tell me when I'd get it. All this time I wouldn't be able to activate the phone. I say screw it, I'll keep it but you gotta give me something here. All they can do open a customer credit report and see if it goes through. Suffice it to say.....I'm pissed.

Thats how mine is from GPlay! Not as bad as yours but the same type of marks.... Seems like it was slid around and there was a bunch of dust/debris in the box on the phone.. I called them up right after I saw and they were gonna set me up with a new replacement but there is a problem with there system with that apparently...:roll eyes: So I have to wait for them to fix that then get in contact with me to set up the replacement... Im using this one in a case in the mean time but it definitely shouldn't fly to get one that looks this way!

They would have touched it last when flashing their splash screenand doing the logo on the back. But a previous commenter said his gplay device was the same. I would look at how the phone fits in the retail packaging. Does it have room to move around at all, is what i would be looking at.

I think it has some room to move because there doesn't seem to be anything keeping it in place or anything protective it has to sit on. Its just sitting on indent of the phone with the documentation. I think it happened during shipping possibly especially if it was man handled it could bounce around and scuff up but idk? i don't see how sliding on cardboard could cause marks like that.
Im also still waiting on Gplay to reply and fix there system to get me a new replacement...
Did you have any issues getting AT&T to initiate the return? This is ridiculous, mine has this too.

AT&T wouldn't have done it themselves, just semantically speaking.
They would have made a deal with the OEM (Motorola) to make the modifications on their behalf before packaging.
Not defending AT&T or anything, of course.

Mystery gift is a lousy water bottle

I had hoped that they would have sent those of us who ordered before the pop up box came up would have gotten the same gift, but boy was I wrong. A lousy water bottle included with the supposed $99 discount.
Had I known, I would have cancelled and reordered.

Right? Well since I also received the $99 water bottle I had to go to a T-Mobile store where I could buy a decent case for $42 dollars. Sigh.
Sadly my experience was the same, got the same stupid tiny water bottle/thermos, I was hoping for another charger like they used to do (or at least something more useful). I also had to buy a case from T-Mobile since my nicer case is coming from China and could be here anywhere in the next 3 mo (sadly I'm not exaggerating shipping time).
I also received a really shiny metal water bottle. It's too small to be of much use and was I was pretty disappointed when I realized that's all the "surprise gift" was....

I concur. Was thinking maybe a pixel since it should be more mod friendly
I got today my oneplus 8t with just a bottle, without cover. Even the clear does not come with that one

I'm really disappointed about the bottle too. I was hoping for at least a case and maybe earbuds but damn this really was a slap in the face. Unlike someone else that posted, I couldn't even find a case at my local T-Mobile store (or others within 15 miles of me). The cases on amazon seem like garbage right now as well.
Only good side is that shipping was fast... I got my phone before a lot of T-Mobile stores even had time to put up a demo unit according to one store I went to.
Graphically it is better
