SCROLL DOWN FOR CHANGE LOG
First let me start by saying I am by no means a developer. HOWEVER, Ive become somewhat obsessed with getting ram management right for my usage paterns. After a good week of fiddling around with different LMK values, this is where I ended. Blend of performance and keep in ram, i can have 3-4 apps open and hit the browser and it doesnt have to reload, and ive yet to see ram usage go above 293. It works for me so I want to share with the community. It is your choice on whether you want to keep zram or disable it. Some report better performance either way. This is not a "hack". It is a re-calibration of lmk settings. These settings have been tested on 0.4.4.16 and up versions of Talon kernel on Apex. I am not responsible for any mishaps.
Directions: Flash from CWM
UPDATE 11-1-11:
More effective lmk adj/oom settings
Changed lmk values to achieve balance of performance and memory
Adjusted home app adj value to prevent launcher kills
Adjusted home app mem to improve multi task
SPECIAL THANKS TO PIKACHU01 FOR IMPROVED LMK ADJ/OOM LEVELS
Special thanks to:
Existz for the outstanding feature packed Talon Kernel
Kodos96 for initial ram management
Apparition for creating the CWM flashable file
Anyone else associated with the development of the Talon Kernel
Juwe 11 for peaking my interest in ram management
And finally watsa for the masterpiece that is Apex 9.1
*Edit* PROCEDURE ONLY FOR TALON KERNEL! For other kernels, you must locate where your ram settings are located and adjust values there.
Thanks for the research... Where is the ram.conf located?

*edit* maybe you could upload your ram.conf file so we can just download it and put it where it needs to be?

^^^^^i second that, im exceedingly curious about such scripts and how yours will stack up to v6 supercharger, or even how it will improve upon v6 when paired with it, but i cant pull up your screenshot (my computer at work issue, nothing wrong with it) so uploading the .conf file would be convenient
Can this be used with xcals I9000 reorient kernel? Isn't talon based of xcals?
If your Rom does not contain a ram.conf file....im pretty sure it wont work. Youd have to find out where your Rom keeps its ram management files and adjust from there

I had downloaded the Apex ROM to see if I could pull one from there since that's what you said you were using but I couldn't find it... Besides what would it hurt to try? If it doesn't work with my ROM then I just added a file to my phone that doesn't do anything. No big deal

You might have to rename it to .txt before you upload it or add a .txt on the end and then just note in the OP to rename or remove the .txt I would suggest zipping it up, but some might think it's a CWM flashable zip and then spam the thread with post about not being able to flash it...

Not sure. I dont see why not. Just go to etc folder then scroll down and see if theres a ram conf. file. To be safe, make a back up thru cwm since it would save ram.conf. Then edit away

As he mentioned in OP, it is for Talon Kernel. Apex ROM package comes with DarkCore Kernel. You will have to flash Talon Kernel to use this hack.

He said it's only been tested with Talon's Kernel. It may or may not work with other kernels.
It only works on Talon.., Talon is the only kernel that uses the ram.conf file (it is from Kodos96's LMKset designed for Talon)..

Will I be replacing any files? What location do I place the services.jar file? I assume system/framework/framework.jar?

so here it goes.. this is for u guys who favor froyo for its battery life and smoothness, i present to u NoName rom which based on froyo S5830DXKC1
Features:
1- based on froyo S5830DXKC1, flashed as onepackage and can downgrade from any gingerbread rom.
2- deodexed and prerooted.
3- default filesystem ext4.
4- cwm 4.0.0.9
5- cfroot b-81, so basicly u'll get any feature that came from this kernel eg smartass cpu governor, interactivex cpu governor, bln, cifs.ko, tun.ko etc etc.
6- host file modded to block ads.
7- modded build.prop
8- nexus bootanimation.
9- default gingerbread launcher.
10- font changed to more pleasant in the eyes one. seriously i really hate the letter "g" on any stock rom that use droidsans font
10- nexus iconset for all app that came default from this rom.
11- the smoothness and battery life of froyo
12- darktremore a2sd installed, but u need to activate it to use. do this on terminal:
Code:
su
a2sd reinstall
Howto install:
flash as onepackage via odin. odin 4.42 and cooper.ops included in archive. first boot it'll install csc and then it automatically reboot once again to cwm, this time u need to reboot again manually.
Disclaimer:
standard disclaimer applies, i wouldnt be responsible if bla3.. u know the drill

Retried now it works. Try http://search.4shared.com/search.html?searchmode=2&searchName=Ubuntu_R it's an apk, try installing and then changing via display>font.
Anyway, do you prefer using interactiveX or smartass?
both is almost similar, it rammed down cpu when screen off, so dont need screen off profile for both governor. but i think interactivex has better implement of it since its newer than smartass.

For some reason the su binary isn't installing, I have to go get ready for work so I won't be able to mess with it until tonight.
I will have to remove the rooted part in the first post.
EDIT:Fixed, forgot to add busybox and su to system\xbin. I thought I did that, but obviously I didn't, all good now...
I also got the errors about my phone being rooted. When i went to update the superuser binary with the superuser app, it gave me a failure... I think the issue is with the binary. Flashed the fuguroot kernel, then re-flashed the boog kernel and all was well. Love the ROM, by the way. Especially the battery icon, and changing colors

Thanks. I'm not really a fan of the fusion theme. Just like keeping as close to stock gingerbread as possible. Is there any significant difference between KK4 and KJ1? My KK4 Odexed Rom was kinda slow on gaming..i just need an all rounded rom..

I believe Fusion has a stock revert theme, if you can't find it in the thread I can upload it for you but in either case I can't do anything til later this evening. I'll hook you up one way or another. So no ICS?

I am at a loss here. I am running CLK 1.5 PA 1.1a with tytung r3, however, the device gets icon flash similar to icecreamtosti, where the icons do not respond without a reboot.
I wanted to flash Dorimanx v6.9 or v7.2 HWA, and understand I need to place the ROMs initrd.gz file in the initrd-custom folder. I have tried this on Snow Leopard & XP to no avail using a variety of different compression programs including 7-zip. I unzip the kernel and the ROM, put the PA 1.1a initrd.gz in the correct folder and rezip it. Each time though, even after re-downloading the kernel and ROM, I get an error within CWM, which reads that the installation has been aborted. Why is this? Do I need to re-compile the kernel in Android Kitchen? (I do not know how to do this by the way) or what else am I doing incorrectly? I have trawled the XDA HD2 forum, but had no luck. Suggestions?

You don't unzip the contents. By doing so you break the signing. What you wanna do is open your ROM zip using 7 zip then browse to the initrd.gz file copy to your desktop, close everything. Now open the kernel zip file browse to the initrd-custom folder open it. Now double click and drag the initrd.gz file from your desktop to the 7-zip window which has the kernel zip opened to the initrd-custom folder.

Have you tried installing the kernel without adding the initrd.gz? I remember getting that error when the download was inturupted or something. So if you still get that error without editing the zip, then it most likely is the zip file and you need to redownload. Because if you did exactly as i said then it should be working. Im a long time user of his kernel's on almost every ROM out there and never once ran into any troubles. But we will surely figure this out
Can you post a link to the ROM you are using, and i'll download it and edit the kernel then repost it in this thread for you.

Thank you so much, I wanted to experiment whether v6.9 is better than v7.2. Would it be possible to repack that kernel too?

Haha yes I could, I personally preferred 7.2 over 6.9 but my favorite is 6.5D xP
Did you flash the zip yet?

I flashed it with success, but it doesn't feel as snappy as tytung r3, it takes a few seconds to unlock and load programs, even clocked at 1612mhz and experimenting with ZRAM on and off. Thank you though, I will probably stick with tytung's for the moment though, did you use 7-zip to transfer the initrd.gz file?

Hmm i wonder if its cause i took the initrd.gz from an older version of Paranoidandroid. I have version .6 on my computer thats why i used it. I'll redownload the latest and try with that. I might even flash it myself and test it out. Maybe the lib files need to be transfered as well. Dorimanx has by far been the best kernel for myself, but i dont really care for ICS yet but when i was testing the waters i used DM kernel and i loved it. Snappy responsive and pretty awesome. It just lacks a boat load of features i rely on in CM7. CM9 claimed they will re add the features once they iron kinks out so once they release a better build i will most likely convert

Very curious by this statement, and admittedly, my own android experience is limited... I've used ACA SD android for a number of months, and have switched over to ICS. Currently with ICT & DM's 6.9 kernel, but love the UI in hybrid mode of PA... and so, am really curious what you meant when you alluded to 'missing features' that were in CM7, but not CM9. What was lost? What am I missing? (sincere question) Thanks, -Rob

Well, there are two that i pretty much LOVE and cannot live without xD
Those are,
1. Disable full screen (status bar remains visible no matter the app, has a "hide" button if you wish to use full screen in a game or app, then you can unhide by pressing home key(my choice))
2. Really big one, lockscreen gestures. I love being able to draw a 'C' on my lockscreen and open the phone whitout having a custom app slot being taken up. Plus, gestures allow for an app to run while still displaying the lockscreen.
THose are the only two big ones i will miss, there are a few more small ones but i dont remember without flashing CM9 and checking And its been awhile since ive tested the waters, so i might download the latest AOKP and CM9 to see where they are at. But they both are good and pretty cool. CM7 is just perfect for me. No issues what so ever.

It would be brilliant if you could test out the kernel with the initrd.gz from 1.1a PA, that might explain why it felt slow when I tested the original.
