ROM back -up? - XPERIA X10 General

Hope someone could help me out with this one, I just did a back of my rom using xrecovery. Does that back file get saved on my sdcard and if so where, and does it get saved as a zip file?
Sent from my X10i using XDA App

It gets saved at /sdcard/xrecovery/backup/ in a regular folder. The folder contains 3 image files (system.img, data.img, cache.img) and a nandroid.md5 file.

I always rename the folders. I find it hard to keep track of them by the dates alone. I always name them something along the lines of YYYY-MM-DD.HH.MM.SS-ROM-NAME-BASEBAND. That always works for me.
EDIT: But I NEVER touch any of the files inside.

You can rename xrec back up but dont put spaces on it. Eg; gb2.3_Stock or whatever you like but no spaces.

Change your Android folder to what ever you want and edit the startup.txt accordingly. You can have as many build as your heart desire.
Yeah I know. What I'm saying is....I used androzip to unzip to sdcard, which when writing to specified location OVERWRITES any existing folder named android with the one it is unzipping. I'm retarted for short

Use pocketrar and you can set the location it extracts to, chose something like Android2, Android3 etc then in startup.txt edit this line:
Code:
set cmdline "rel_path=Android2"
Set the rel_path to whatever folder its in, and there you go.

Virus boot animation

My friend has the HTC evo which is the same screen size as the DX, and I noticed he had a sick boot animation from the Virus rom. I had him send me the bootanimation.zip file.
Would this work if I replace my current bootanimation with it?
I am just worried about whether or not it will boot. I know how to do everything else
Give it a try. Your phone will still boot if it doesn't work.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Yea all that will happen if it doesnt work is ull have a black screen while it boots up instead of an animation... Even if it wasnt sized right as long as u put it in data/local in its zipped form it should work
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Do u have a preview? Could u post the file here?

/data/local? In all of my experiences it has only worked in /system/media, which is where my current one is and there is nothing in /data/local. I will try both I guess.
And yes I will post the file here, just after I test it
Well apparently data/local is the default for any rom... (it would override system/media if there was somthing there.) Let us know how it works for you.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
I just tried it, and it worked perfectly. I copied the file into /system/media where my old bootanimation.zip was, and rebooted, and it worked. There was no boot animation in /data/local, and when I put it there in the past, it didn't work, so I did not try it in there.
I have attached the file with my post if anyone else would like to try it out.
Hmmmm..... Never mind my computer is not allowing me to upload the file, I will do it in an hour or two with my phone.

Sweet thanks Jmoney

Here it is... Credit goes to the creator of virusROM - XxXViRuSXxX (or whoever created the boot animation for his ROM).
Rename to bootanimation.zip and copy to /data/local/ (for me it did not work in /system/media/ where I usually put it, but try it in either one).
virusROM bootanimation.zip
Thanks for posting. Sorry everybody, my computer was being gay last night.
Please nobody try to flash this in CWM, it will not work

Warning - do not rename Backup folders!

so i made a backup via CWM recovery and, to recognize the backup, i renamed the folder to the name of the ROM... when i tried restoring it, i got a size mismatch error... good thing i made a backup of all of my sdcard, including the original name of the folder, and the restore worked again
SO PLEASE! do *NOT* rename the backup folder!!
and this is news because....?

Actually, here's the deal
You CAN rename backups. I do it all the time. What you CANNOT do is add spaces.
My_Rom <----works
My Rom <-----will fail
I usually use camel casing (camelCasing). I've seen people with this problem in a few other phone forums and just happened to stumble on this
OP, if you rename your backup to one that has no spaces, then you should be alright!
Hope I helped!
i didn't try without spaces, but could a space make the md5sum different? i thought just renaming the thing changes the md5sum

Nope, the md5sum is stored in a .txt file in the backup folder and doesn't ever change (even with the name). If you change the .txt file in any way it'll probably break the back up. I'm not sure the logistics behind it, but spaces break something that removing the space will fix.
A couple things.. The spaces are because of the file reader cannot register the new tokens, some programs (windows and most OSs) are completely fine with this, however some just don't have he exception to deal with it. As for changing the .txt file with the md5, that wont actually break the backup, but CWM will think that it is cause they don't matchup
Why not just use 4ext? They name the backup for you, very nice recovery.

[Q]Where can i find the nandroid backup?

I want to save it on the PC,and put it in another nexus 4...but i can't find it
Which recovery did you make the backup with? CWM and TWRP save them in different spots.

With Solid Explorer? Try a different file manager. You could always just upload the backup to the cloud and download it on your PC lol

how lol?
btw i have to copy all the clockwork folder or just the folder inside the backup folder?
i guess i need also the blob folder with all that files in it..

Just the backup folder. If you open up the blobs folder inside there will be many more EMPTY folders (at least for me).

Check the permissions in your mnt/sdcard whether owner and group are root and the there are full read write permissions.
You can always cloud upload and download and
Yes you need the blobs folder. I assume you have cwm6 and the blobs folder has important files..

it still not working
but, i did use the camera to capture new pictures,
the new ones i can see in the gallery, but the old ones still cant, all the picture in the same folder !!
1. Copy them (not the parent folder) to another file or off device
2. Reboot
3. Copy back to device original folder
4. Reboot
