[Q] How to install xap on DVP?

Hi All,
New DVP unlocked from Dell.com here.
New to WP7 also.
HOw do you install things on this thing (not from marketplace)?
How do you browse the content in it?
I have copied a bunch of stuff via the mass storage registry hack, but how can i see it now?
I didn't expect this level of difficulty with WP7, i had WP6.5 and Android and i dislike the way zune is mimicking itunes with locking you out of the content.
makes me have second thoughts on switching from android.
I am also having problem with hebrew fonts, it shows clearly the email subject but not the body. I think this is related to html format rather than system fonts.
So next question: how do you change email display format on WP7?

how were you able to edit the registry, i am informed this cannot be accomplished?

I think he means the registry edit in his PC to enable WP7 device as a mass storage device. This way he can copy files to the phone.

First off, welcome to the DVP forum. If you are on pre-Nodo, then you can use Chevron to unlock to side load apps to DVP. If you are on Nodo and post Nodo, your only option is to become a official WP7 developer to side load apps.
Currently, there is no way to browse contents in DVP like a explorer style (even if u have copied stuff using the mass storage hack on the PC).
WP7 is pretty much locked in all ways possible by MS and more so with DVP (due to no support from Dell). If you want all the fun stuff you mentioned, you are better off with a HTC WP7 device as that has the most # of hacks and tricks from the homebrew community.
DVP is the top WP7 phone from a pure WP7 user experience and gorgeous screen (provided you have the FW update installed) and not so much from a Dev experience.

But i read in this forum a detail, the numbers of applications I can install are 3? Can you confirm that?

If student account then yes, only 3 apps can be installed

If I downgrade my phone with Pre-Nodo backup will i be able to edit registry for upgrade the number of "3"?
I have a backup of my original ROM without any update...

No registry editing in DVP irrespective of the WP7 OS version.

Did you really receive an unlocked phone from dell which you can immediately use any carier SIM on it from the following link

or you receive it locked to t-mobile and you called dell to give you the unlocking code,

I bought the phone for a man who won it in internal DELL competition and it was directly unlock with the lowest FW of WP7!
I use it in FRANCE with Mango BETA2 and no problems!
I'm just searching how can I upgrade this number of three but it is just impossible...

DVP already can update via zune to manago.
which is the point of that thread.. which is impressive for that because it is an HD2.

My dvp is nodo 7392 and locked i want mango with unlocked chevron done is this possible ?

directly from NoDo with Zune 4.8.2345.0?

just provision your phone for mango updates - get to 7712 via zune and then use the bat files to get to 7720.
that is the same thing everyone is doing .. (and what the thread for the HD2 is for... i have 2 HD2s running mango)

Can u please guide me how to provision phone to Mango and it will unlocked after 7720 ??
i have DVP 7392 nodo Locked (cannot install sideload apps)

there are many many threads about geting you wp7 to mango. search
also, this is a general wp7 question... look in that forum (not the hd2 one)

[Q] Offline update DVP to 7740.....Latest Mango update

I have update my DVP to 7740 using the offline update tool posted in Windows development and Hacking, But there has been no changes in the software just that the phone now shows 7740.16 instead of 7720.
Has anyone else updated their phones, and if there has been some changes in the software they have noticed, please post here.

You sir are my hero for pointing me to that offline update tool. I was able to not only update my DVP but also add my mother tongue as a language (dutch).
Having said that, other than the different version number, I have not noticed much change from before. My DVP still has difficulties connecting to my wifi AP... Compass is still broken as well (to be expected).

Yes the compass is still broken, but i am having no problems connecting to my secure wifi .

7740 only fix voice mail notification and Exchange server connection issue. No tethering, no compass fix.

Tethering is likely never to come to the DVP. It was never promised.

Could you be more specific which offline update tool did you use (I don't want to brick my DVP cause it's far away from US where it was bought)?
Or perhaps you could share with us the entire update procedure.
My DVP is unbranded (generic) with Mango 7720 and recently Chevron unlocked.

I can't find a wp7update tool on internet, its says its unsupported by the developer and no link for the files ... ...
BTW does this work on a bricked dvp ?
I'm trying to flash a firmware onto it, it's basically missing the original SD card so it's saying Storage Card Not Working ... ... or is that simply the case of using a nokia phone to flash the card and hopefully it will update on zune ?

Sorry if this is stickied/posted or doesn't belong here but I can't find anything. I just recently flashed a Windows 7.5 rom on a HTC HD2 that's locked to T-Mobile, so I purchased an unlock code to try and use it on At&t but it doesn't work. I added the APN settings and nothing. Is it not possible to unlock? Does it need to be unlocked in Windows 6.5 stock state?
Rom Installed: [v4 Final Version] CTRLPDA FSM HD2 Mango ROM [03.01.2012]
FYI - Unlocked Sim Pin was also accepted but it still says no network found.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I wish to confirm this.
My friend tried to unlock with windows phone 7.5, but it would not take. It showed 'unlocked', but it did not unlock.
Went back to wm6.5 and it was OK. Then reinstalled 7.5 and it remained unlocked.
It was a lot of work really because a lot of time was put into the project in the end - trying to figure what was wrong with 7.5 then going back to 6.5 and loosing all the settings etc. So be warned!!!

settings from apps and games you can backup and restore with Windows Phone Device Manager v1.7.0.0 (unfortunately not work with public v1.8.0.0)
edit: new WPDM v1.9.0.0 working very fine

yup unlock works fine in wm, to save yourself time have a wee search or failing that ask, could have saved you some time =)

I'm looking to buy Omnia 7, and as i haven't caught up with all the stuff needed for an interop unlock, what should i look for before buying, ie: OS version or bootloader version so that i can interop unlock it?
Is it possible that the phone cannot be unlocked if someone updated regularly through Zune to latest OS version?

You don't need to do any flashing to dev unlock your device. I have one running 8107 with tethering and all you need to do is go to http://windowsphonehacker.com/windowbreak on your phone's browser and click "windowbreak me" and follow the steps. When you're done (takes about 5 minutes tops) you'll have dev unlock and tethering, if the device you buy doesn't already have it.

Please dont lie to him. Many people (and also Me) are having the same problem - Non retail device when using Wp7 Downloader or USB error (206) when using DFT and nobody knows how to help us. Type non retail device in google, You gonna find many topics, many problems and tears ;-)
I dont know how to check it before buying, You can ask about version of WP and Zune updating, mine shows that i have the newest version. (ha! ha!)

So i should just check if the phone is updated to 8107 before buying?
