Ok. This is my 1st post in blade section. Hi everyone..
For the past 6months i have been using htc wildfire. It was the only low end android option when i purchased it back in november. Im not much satisfied with it because of its qvga display, lack of gpu, apps support, games support, video recording . So recently i sold it to my friend for a decent price. Now im thinking of purchasing a new phone.
My options are zte blade (dell xcd35) and spice-mi410.
At the moment i can get the dell xcd35. The features im upgrading as i think are 600MHz processor (msm7227 with adreno 200gpu), wvga hdpi, video recording. Few questions on blade..
1.What is the maximum overclockable frequency. Is it stable at that with custom builds.
2.how is the battery life.
3.how is the music play and video play. If possible let me know the max video specs that can be playable (in terms of fps, resolution, bitrate for H263 video.)
4.What is the maximum video recording capability (fps, bitrate, resolution)
5.linpack score at stock frequency and max overclock frequency.
6.I will be mostly getting gen1 xcd35 with 256MB ram. Can i unlock the ram to 512 .

Finally can i expect a great difference between wildfire and blade.
And the 2nd phone spice-mi410 is a kinda experimenting. It has great features but dont know about the quality of hardware and service. Moreover i need to wait to get it. Also at the moment i feel putting more price on a phone is not satisfactory since they get outdated much quick (like for wildfire). So, what do you recommend..
Thanks in advance..........
Depends which ROM you decide to use, I am at 600mhz on CAE 2.3.4 Mod, but with Cyanogen you can reach 710hmz Stable.I get around 36 Hours with frequent use.The cameras awful and yes you can unlock the extra RAM, I also came from a wildfire to the blade ive never looked back it wipes the floor with the wildfire!
I'd say so. The screen would also be a big upgrade.
now it is in my hands (the DELL xcd35). Purchased it 6hours ago. I'm pretty much satisfied. Btw I got 512ram and froyo by default. So i think it is gen2. Lot games to play. And wanna keep the stock rom for a while before flashing a custom build. Everything is pretty much satisfactory except the absence of flash player.

If you want Flash there's a ARM v6 version floating around, it's not perfect but it might be better than no Flash at all if you really need/want it.

it doesnt play browser youtube videos right.. does it? Few more questions...
And is there an index thread in blade section. I cant find any.
I wanna overclock my stock rom at the moment. Which kernel do i need to flash.
And is JIT enabled (either by default or can it be) in stock 2.2 rom gen2 version.
How to enter bootloader mode or fastboot mode for gen2 dell xcd35 (for the purpose of fastboot flashing).
If i need to use the TPT flashing, which tpt should i choose for an INDIAN GEN2 DELL XCD35.
Thanks in advance...

I think it plays the HTML 5 ones but not the Flash ones.
Check MoDaCo for more info.
Not sure which kernel exactly, you could try one of the Swedish Spring ones (Check MoDaCo)
JIT should be enabled by default.
Volume Up and Power at the same time to enter the bootloader.
You don't TPT if your phone came as Gen 2. Keep it as is or use this: http://android.modaco.com/topic/339...re-to-a-stock-or-windows-upgraded-gen2-blade/

I tried volume up + power. Also tried volume up + menu + power but cannot enter the bootloader mode or fastboot mode.
I checked this link given by u. It says fastboot is disabled in stock gen2 whereas enabled in custom gen2. So I think I need to flash custom gen2 tpt. But I will learn bit more and then decide whether to flash it or not.
Btw, I rooted and installed rom manager. Then installed cwm recovery 3.0.2.7 I think. Now I'm on cyanogenmod, the latest nightly.

I just know the nightly links for wildfire (codename buzz) . Once I enter the download page, there is device selection on the left side from which I can download for blade. And I knew Google apps package is universal for cm7.
I always like cm7 for its customization and performance. Awesome rom. I love this blade a lot over wildfire. Im very happy. Beats wildfire in every aspect. Also surpasses many phones like LG optimus p500.

Hi friends.
First, I want to praise this forum ... that is fantastic!
My question is about the currently ROMs for my milestone 2...
I want to flash my ML2 with another ROM, to get a better experience with the battery life...
What ROM is the better choice?
- Argen2Stone 2.7
- CM7
- TIM Retail 2.3.6
- MIUI 2
- Others.... ?
Thanks again guys!
I test all these roms, personally I prefer CM7 of Tezet + the update of Endless7
Lose the video recording at 720p, but it works great.!!
It depend on your version of MS2. I have problems with gps in cyanogen's rom, so i'am using ms2ginger 2.1. It's perfect, everything's working, but it have shorter battery life. My friend have older revision of MS2, he had serious problems with keyboard and multitouch, but Endless7 cm7 runs perfectly on his phone.

YES!
+1 for that rom .
It's pity, there's no Endless7's update for latest Tezet's CM7
Guys, I tried flash my phone with CM7 times ago....
I first flash the SO with "update-cm-7.1.0-DROID2WE-signed.zip"
After this I apply "gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip"
All using Bootmenu.
But, the phone doesn't boot... the screen stay black and nothing happends....
After this, I recovery to 2.2 TIM RETAIL...
Can you post a link with a better tutorial for me?
Thanks!

May sound stupid, but allthough the milestone 2 and droid to appear to be the same phone, they are not the same phone.
Main difference is one is cdma (no sim - droid 2) and other is gsm (has a simcard - milestone2)
No method will ever get a droid 2 rom working on your milestone 2.
EDIT:
(moved to start of rant) If you have upgraded to the official gingerbread you can only use CM9, CM7(endless7), argen2stone. Just the ones with the GB kernel.
But as for other roms all roms, the choices are:
CM9: Not finished but quite stable now and a great look into ICS certainly work having a try of it. Uses GB kernel so no multitouch bug.
CM7 (tezet version): Stable, good, fast, has multitouch bug due to froyo kernel
CM7 (endless7 version/defy port): Not much difference from tezet version, but some added bells and whistles. Also uses the CH gingerbread kernel, so no multitouch bug and better touch response. I'd recommend this version personally, but it's all a matter of opinion. Also both versions show all market apps regardless of compatibility - can be handy if you wanna take advantage of a great sale knowing you can just use it when it is patched for your device or you upgrade. Or if you can tweak some stuff enough to trick it into working.
MIUI: Simply wonderful. Most stable one i have used. At first i hated the iphone likeness of it - but you can install a custom launcher if you wish. I got used to it though and ended up loving it once I tuned it to how i liked it - 1 screen with several folders and a clock widget the themes are great. It also uses the froyo kernel, so unfortunately has the multitouch bug. So i had to leave it
Argen2Stone: Pretty close to stock so if you liked the stock firmware but not it's slowness you will probably like this. Simply wasn't for me but for the time i used it, it was quite stable. Uses the CH gingerbread kernel though, so no multi touch bug here too . OH and is one of the few that has 720p video recording working I think.
I can't really remember ms2ginger and i have never tried blurless, so I won't comment on them.
Moral of the story, you can count the amount of roms we have available on you hand so why not get them all, and try them 1 day at a time?
They are all great roms and far better than stock was, so you can't really go wrong. No one here can possibly tell you what you like so you will just have to test them yourself soon enough and find out

+1 me too great works of tezet and endless7
ive used Argen2Stone 2.7 ..its a really good rom.
now im using CM9 by tezet.
My vote goes for tezet's CM7, because I like more that clean CM7 than endless' mod.
i think CM7 of Tezet is the best.
I'm voting for MIUI - but I understand if someone don't like it due to it's quite bad touch responsiveness.
I want to shar my experience with you. I used all the rom you listed except "tim retail 2.3.6".
I'm now using A2S and UK 2.3.4 kernel. It has the perfect experience whatever daily use or game playing. But it has the shorter battery life(the same as cm7 or may be a little longer).
I often got reboot when i using cm7 especially when i entering games.
MIUI has the different style from other android roms. It also based on cm kernel, if you are boring with the original android UI ,you may try this rom. But this rom has the shortest battery life even less than CM7, and has the slow reflex when you have incall.
Sorry for my terrible English.

CM7 for me.. even if it doesn't have 720p recording it is battery friendly.. i like argen2stone but the only thing i dont like on this rom is blur UI.. they should have remove the UI because it eats too much ram >.<
So i am on this forum for a long time now i tested every rom and kernel with games and how they work and all but now i need your help currently i am on stock rom and i am sick of it because it is slow and my internal memory is 150/190 mb used... i stopped playing games and i am now looking for fastest rom that won't bug,and i need it for messages and music player so do you have any opinion on what should i use cm7 ? kyrillos ? or there is something better ? faster ? easier to use?
ty to all that help me
Kyorarom would help in opening apps faster as you can use kyora app to lock apps in memory so they open faster. I recommend kyorarom too for its tweaks and theme. Its really up to you
Cheers

Ok, let me summarize a bit... I was planning on making a guide for my setup for all those who want update but are a bit skeptic towards custom ROMs.
Let's get started...
Firstly, I have to state that I tried almost every ROM out there and Kyorarom, personally left biggest impact on me considering speed...
BUT, few days ago, I had some crazy picture in my head which was saying that modding one part of ROM crashes whole integrity of that ROM. So I was thinking that probably the best solution would be putting stock ROM and changing kernel only.
So, what did I do?
I decided to try to update ROM to original Froyo supplied from my provider (T-mobile Croatia)
1.) I flashed complete eclair...
2.) Failed to update to Froyo via Kies (who would say...)
- when Kies downloads a ROM it stores it to temp folder. As it didn't want to update from Kies, I took the same ROM and flashed it through ODIN
3.) As that worked perfectly, I had clean XXJPQ (So far the best one I got...) and decided to put a root as I faced some problems before while flashing kernels which should grant me a root...
4.) After I got root, it came to me that I just have to choose right kernel. I decided to go for fugumod. In this case, I took fugumod 2.4 800 Mhz (Cpu setup - 333.5 / 800 Mhz, governor performance)
Right now, you have a ultra mega fast ROM with incredible battery life. (Using ROM whole day with data and wifi + some music got it down to 85% from fully charged)
After that all I did was put 5LS mod and extended power menu...
I'm using Nemus Launcher which has left the smoothest impact on me and the most satisfying options provided for customizing...
If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
EDIT:
As there wasn't recovery, and with that no backup option, I had feeling like it's really needed. Fugumod didn't serve any kind of recovery and I haven't found any kind of standalone install for CWM, it was time for me to change kernel. Candidates were kyorakernel (hillbeast) and astrum (moikop). As I tried kyorakernel before and it is based on fugumod and g3mod I decided to go for astrum which is based on samsung.
Results:
It showed great results for now. RZ Recovery packed with kernel is really great. Simple to use, has better interface...
Kernel also gives possibility to use Data2SD (hybrid) and OC to 1ghz (I preffer myself 800 mhz with lagfree governor)
Also, as it simply wasn't enough for me, I decided to go for CMbins 0.3.1 made by hillbeast.
OFC, it gave great boost to the phone...
I was thinking that there isn't much possibility to make it any better but once again I proved myself wrong...
that's a great idea though fugumod is a bit outdated.
any idea on how to enable hd2sd on that? otherwise i ll wait for hillbeast or moikop to iron the bugs on theirs...

No idea, sorry... To be honest I'm waiting for kyorakernel or astrum kernel too. Fugumod is solution because it's the best kernel for now, even outdated...
s'funny, i was thinking about this yesterday, i'm having problems with a gps app, dev thinks its because of custom rom. that got me to thinking about smonic (member) who is/was using stock jpu.
i was wondering if you could flash stock jpu, then g3mod 2.2.2 as kernel? then you would have cwm, extended power memory etc.
sd carc partition would also work?? (methinks? i have a lot of apps, and i use pretty much all of them!)
is this scenario viable????
pretty much a noob at these matters, i get it all, but i dont!!

Of course it's viable I'm advising everyone to flash eclair and take froyo supplied from your provider via kies
problem there was i flashed froyo because my provider wanted me to hand in phone and have it sent off to be updated, taking 2 weeks...
thats why i began on the slippery slope to flashing and rooting
but flashing stock jpu from the list somewhere on this site should work too? or not?
edit- maybe we should start this as a new thread, kinda hijacked this one....not intended @shadowmaniac.

If kies detects your phone you should be on your way to update. It probably wouldn't want to update it but will download ROM in temp folder. You can take it from there and flash via odin.
Hey guys I'm pretty new to android roms etc etc I have a 512 mb gen 2 european blade that much i found out but i wanted to know whether there was a complete stockish rom with the latest kernel patches? I am running GSF now and it is fast and stuff but i would really like it to go faster with the latest kernels as it was updated quite some time back so i imagine it wont have the latest patches... any ROM without any cm7 mods and all just plain and simple stripped and modded stock with latest kernel mods like gpu axi uv etc ?

U know the answer cm with tons of performance boosts and options
to be honest if you want your phone to go faster i would go with cyanogen mod 7 latest kang + wbaws kernel with GPU overclock
So the stock based ROMS arent the ones with the best performance..?okay and by latest kang which should i try?(i really dont want to overclock and things like that as it may damage the phone no?)
Err.. Cyanogen?
In my experience, cyanogen is one of the heaviest and slowest roms I've encountered, although that might just be me . It's filled with cool stuff and options though.
So far I've been hugely impressed with Elite Blade Rom:
It also has a stock looking ui, except for a sexy lock screen. It's very fast, and battery lasts f o r e v e r. Which is very important to me atleast.
Overclocking doesn't damage your phone, because it only lets you overclock to about 800mhz, and if it doesn't like that clock, it just crashes and goes to normal. Around 730mhz always worked for me, and battery life seems not to be affected.
Stock roms are like buying a new laptop, filled with user friendliness and sponsored apps. In other words; Mighty damn slow. So custom ones are definitely the way to go.
One down, nine to go!
By stock Roms i meant stock based modded roms but i agree thats what i thought was bad about cyanogen that it was real slow when i tried it once before i dont thats why understand how the KANGS will make a difference plus i want stock similar roms as there are no bugs not even minor ones for example in elite blade in landscape mode in the status bar the peeking android looks weirdly stretched and stuff the small things..are perfect in GSF.. if the KANGS can work faster then im willing to try that but preferably i want to know if there's a way to add the latest kernel patches or the latest kernel to GSF..?
Thanks for the replies guys
(Swedish Snow was nice but for some reason GSF still feels faster )
hmm ok i will help you out a bit after trying a lot of different roms available for the blade including ones not available on these forums since they are only Chinese based (im not chinese i just like to try out there roms).
Overclocking will not damage your phone mate because if you overclock your phone to a limit which is not supported by your phone it will simply reboot and put back the normal CPU settings for your phone to work in a proper manner (Do not tick set CPU settings in boot).
GPU overclocking is nothing to worry about because the GPU will overclock when you overclock the CPU (3D games experience on the ZTE Blade has improved)
As for other saying they find cyanogen mod 7 slow i do not know what version they flashed but i prefer to use CM7 Kangs developed by BurgerZ & Kernel developed by wbaw (both extremely talented devs).
The reason others may find CM7 slow is because they use ADW Launcher (free) by default but burgerz uses stock gingerbread launcher.
if you dont want to use CM7 my second fav rom for performance would be Swedish Snow
@ruckus92
i tried the rom when it was updated last, it was not bad neither good as the libs it uses need updating nowadays.
CyanogenMod is pretty bloated, but some kangs are not as bloated.
I find that Burstlam's kangs are pretty light and fast. I guess he must have gotten used to developing for Chinese blades (they only have 256 mb of ram)
You can find his latest build here.
I have tried the stock-based roms but didn't notice any major difference between them and Burstlam's rom.
And like Kannibalism said, ADW Launcher free is slow as heck. I suggest you switch to ADW Launcher EX, or a different launcher the next time you try a cyanogenmod rom.

nope no trouble mate just restore your backup
follow these steps:
1) take out the battery to turn off the phone
2) power on the phone holding the power button + volume down button (keep holding do not let go of these two buttons till cwm boots)
3) Clockwork recovery will boot up
4) select backup & restore
5) select the backup you want to use
6) wait for it to restore your data could take a few mins
thats all mate

Currently in the GB stock rom the IMEI is present. Pigfish says Gen2 - sold with Froyo, thats true. I only want to use an oc kernel, not whole custom rom, because they are not fully localized. This phone uses my wife and she likes our native language. I use a huawei u8800pro and the speed difference is huge. I hope that 100 mhz up helps her a little bit.

You got a T-Mobile device? The original (Gen1) T-ROM is awful, hiding the half of RAM, try to make Gen2 - if you have T dev, use the T's .exe updater. All ZTE Blade have 512MB RAM.

Word to the wise. Posting your email address on a forum is usually a bad idea. That being said I dislike the "best" idea for a rom/kerne/app and will ask you to not make threads to that regard. I will not lock this thread because the ram inquiry.
As a Android phone user.
It will be hard pressed to get ICS running on 256MB of ram. My i897 runs on total 512MB (~390MB as usable ram) 1Ghz cpu (200mhz bus & GPU) OC'd to 1.392Ghz (232mhz bus&GPU) and its no where as smooth as a dual core phone. I can't imagine how a 256MB and 800mhz cpu would fair with ICS. Like everything it will probably run but how well?
I have tried ics on my Idea Blade (256mb ram). It is smooth but lots of FCs. Not stable at all. The launcher always restarts when i return from an app. Had to revert back to cm7.

Switch off your mobile. Then press home+volume up+power button combination while restrting the Idea Blade mobile. Then you will be in CWM Recovery screen of Idea Blade. From there you can take backup of your current stock ROM. It worked for me.
