Need help from good people of xda - Galaxy 3 General

So i am on this forum for a long time now i tested every rom and kernel with games and how they work and all but now i need your help currently i am on stock rom and i am sick of it because it is slow and my internal memory is 150/190 mb used... i stopped playing games and i am now looking for fastest rom that won't bug,and i need it for messages and music player so do you have any opinion on what should i use cm7 ? kyrillos ? or there is something better ? faster ? easier to use?
ty to all that help me

Kyorarom would help in opening apps faster as you can use kyora app to lock apps in memory so they open faster. I recommend kyorarom too for its tweaks and theme. Its really up to you
Cheers

Ok, let me summarize a bit... I was planning on making a guide for my setup for all those who want update but are a bit skeptic towards custom ROMs.
Let's get started...
Firstly, I have to state that I tried almost every ROM out there and Kyorarom, personally left biggest impact on me considering speed...
BUT, few days ago, I had some crazy picture in my head which was saying that modding one part of ROM crashes whole integrity of that ROM. So I was thinking that probably the best solution would be putting stock ROM and changing kernel only.
So, what did I do?
I decided to try to update ROM to original Froyo supplied from my provider (T-mobile Croatia)
1.) I flashed complete eclair...
2.) Failed to update to Froyo via Kies (who would say...)
- when Kies downloads a ROM it stores it to temp folder. As it didn't want to update from Kies, I took the same ROM and flashed it through ODIN
3.) As that worked perfectly, I had clean XXJPQ (So far the best one I got...) and decided to put a root as I faced some problems before while flashing kernels which should grant me a root...
4.) After I got root, it came to me that I just have to choose right kernel. I decided to go for fugumod. In this case, I took fugumod 2.4 800 Mhz (Cpu setup - 333.5 / 800 Mhz, governor performance)
Right now, you have a ultra mega fast ROM with incredible battery life. (Using ROM whole day with data and wifi + some music got it down to 85% from fully charged)
After that all I did was put 5LS mod and extended power menu...
I'm using Nemus Launcher which has left the smoothest impact on me and the most satisfying options provided for customizing...
If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
EDIT:
As there wasn't recovery, and with that no backup option, I had feeling like it's really needed. Fugumod didn't serve any kind of recovery and I haven't found any kind of standalone install for CWM, it was time for me to change kernel. Candidates were kyorakernel (hillbeast) and astrum (moikop). As I tried kyorakernel before and it is based on fugumod and g3mod I decided to go for astrum which is based on samsung.
Results:
It showed great results for now. RZ Recovery packed with kernel is really great. Simple to use, has better interface...
Kernel also gives possibility to use Data2SD (hybrid) and OC to 1ghz (I preffer myself 800 mhz with lagfree governor)
Also, as it simply wasn't enough for me, I decided to go for CMbins 0.3.1 made by hillbeast.
OFC, it gave great boost to the phone...
I was thinking that there isn't much possibility to make it any better but once again I proved myself wrong...

that's a great idea though fugumod is a bit outdated.
any idea on how to enable hd2sd on that? otherwise i ll wait for hillbeast or moikop to iron the bugs on theirs...

No idea, sorry... To be honest I'm waiting for kyorakernel or astrum kernel too. Fugumod is solution because it's the best kernel for now, even outdated...

s'funny, i was thinking about this yesterday, i'm having problems with a gps app, dev thinks its because of custom rom. that got me to thinking about smonic (member) who is/was using stock jpu.
i was wondering if you could flash stock jpu, then g3mod 2.2.2 as kernel? then you would have cwm, extended power memory etc.
sd carc partition would also work?? (methinks? i have a lot of apps, and i use pretty much all of them!)
is this scenario viable????
pretty much a noob at these matters, i get it all, but i dont!!

Of course it's viable I'm advising everyone to flash eclair and take froyo supplied from your provider via kies

problem there was i flashed froyo because my provider wanted me to hand in phone and have it sent off to be updated, taking 2 weeks...
thats why i began on the slippery slope to flashing and rooting
but flashing stock jpu from the list somewhere on this site should work too? or not?
edit- maybe we should start this as a new thread, kinda hijacked this one....not intended @shadowmaniac.

If kies detects your phone you should be on your way to update. It probably wouldn't want to update it but will download ROM in temp folder. You can take it from there and flash via odin.

FreeKernel Feedback (Bootloader bypass) UPDATE:VIDEO

Please post all feedback/comments to do with the FreeKernel here

We are able to boot custom kernels now!
Anyway... this is the first release of the fully working custom kernel (flashable via xRecovery). I haven't had much time to work on it so it's kind of proof-of-concept. Tested for 48h without any problem (not even a reboot).
FreeKernel-alpha1:
http://www.mediafire.com/?d8v914keiqsmc3n
This is the alpha version of custom 2.6.29 kernel based on the SE sources. I do not plan to work on this release anymore - it is just for testing purpose. From today on I'll start to port SE stuff to the latest (GBread) kernel.
Changes:
- removed 32 fps cap
- implemented netfilter (Droid wall, native USB/wifi tethering etc.)
- undervolted to 0.950mV to save battery
- don't remember what else I did, I bet something nasty
- super ugly boot logo!
Requirements:
- baseband .52 + the relevant kernel
- clean 2.1 ROM, compatibile with .52 baseband (e.g. .504)
- working xRecovery
Please note I am not responsible for any damage this software may cause to your device! Use it at your own risk!
There is absolutely no support for this alpha release!
Click to collapse
So, if you want to test this new kernel, please keep in mind it is only compatible with stock 2.1 firmwares (.504 and above) that are compatible with baseband 52.
It is only for testing purposes, and any feedback for this alpha kernel is purely for the benefit of others, Z is not and will not be supporting this version, do not expect it to be ready for daily use!
Please post your results and how you get on with the kernel.
Video of FreeKernel
http://vimeo.com/21838810
does anyone know how to embed it?
I tested the kernel on baseband .46 on TripNMIUI 0.3.2, and the removal of the FPS cap is incredible, the phone is so much smoother and fluid it is unbelievable - it is like having a new phone. I noticed the screen feels a lot more responsive aswell!.
Obviously it is not at all compatible with the ROM, there is no radio and there are frequent reboots, but just a taster in terms of things to come
Apologies for the poor video, but I think its enough to get the general gist of the smoothness
Tried custom kernel just for kicks on trips miui 3.2...bb 54 and up super unstable no network/wifi tons of reboots....
bb 52 and bb49 no network but wifi IS working no sd card mount though
gonna test other roms aswell....
For install custom kernel to be need xrec by Z not from flashtool.
All works, clean install bb 2.0.46 and 2.0.A.0.504.
Dont problems.
I done back to my custom rom way xrec and flashed the patch bb.49, nothing problem.
cheers
this will not work on bb .46 i have tried and failed. no network at all. have tried on several roms... only eternity roms are working on this kernel on bb .52....
supposedly it is suppose to work with bb .49 have not tested on this bb so i cant say for sure.
guaranteed on .52 build 504...
results on quadrant show fps cap has been removed.
overclock is not possible but undervolting is
colors have not yet changed but should upon release of other custom kernels
Can I brick my x10 with this or only bootloop it (because bootloop is fixable with SEUS)
will this work with freex10 and can anyone give me a link to the main thread where zdhihu posted this? i can't find it. thanks.

You can't brick it as you only flash some files to the system, and you should still be able to access xrecovery if it bootloops
THIS IS ONLY USABLE WITH STOCK 2.1 ON. 52 BASEBAND!!!
This is a test kernel not meant as anything more than a proof of concept. There is absolutely no reason to flash this unless you are personally working on making your own custom kernels. This kernel is not even an alpha release, it will never be developed or supported. If you choose to flash it just to toy around don't whine about functionality.
When custom kernels are available anything the hardware is capable of and drivers can be written for will be possible. Everyone needs to calm down and quit asking the same questions over and over.

No. Z posted it in the bootloader cracking thread. This is only meant for stock 2.1 FW on. 49-.52 BB and is not functional for daily use. This is only meant as a test if you want a stable new kernel its still going to take a little while.

It won't work with any ROM 100% - its just designed for testing, you won't be able to use it for daily use yet.
If you just want to try it out, its possible it will boot up on freex10 and you will see the effects of not having a FPS cap - but it is unlikely the majority of things will work, like radio etc. as it is meant for stock 2.1 roms.
If you do want to try it, make a backup on xrecovery first
I dont know what you have xD
What do you mean with "its not ready for dayly use" ?
I use it now since yesterday afternoon and everything works perfect!
I had no random reboots and everything is very smooth!
My Battery lost 1 % with stable 1 Ghz (playing around and testing).
So not be scared! flash it!

As in its only supported by the stock 2.1 ROM, and if you run into any problems with it, its not being supported so you won't get a fix
so for example if i install this kernel on my freex10, how can i remove it later if i have problems with it?

Does someone if it works with 2.0.2 (the ROM which Eminence V1.2 is based on) works 100% with this kernel?

[Q] Which ROM would you recommend?

Hello,
I am trying to flash a better ROM for my sister's Galaxy 3, currently the one came with the phone is super laggy and slow. I am coming from the X10 Mini Pro forum, and we only have like 3 custom ROM there, but it seems Galaxy 3 have quite a lot more choices...
I am wondering which one is the currently most stable ROM here that have the lag issue fixed? I flash my X10 quite often, but i don't plan on flash and re-flash my sister's phone. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
i would recommend jpm+jit enabled.....
i am cureently using the same....and i am quite happy with it....
I am a advance user, like i said, i flash my X10 pretty much every time the xda developer come out with a hotfix or a newer version of their ROM, the current ROM that i am running on my X10 have stuff like hybrid Foyo/Gingerbread, overclock, undervolt, jit etc. Is not 100% stable, and i need to force close some stuff once in a while, but i have no problem with it.
I don't mind flashing a custom ROM, as long as one of its release is stable (since this will be for my sister's phone, which is a noob).
However, won't the "stock XXJPM or JPN" still have the lag issue though? I thought all the OEM ROM have the lag issue?

Shouldn't you be plugging your own ROM?
That aside, I think stock JPM will do her a treat. Or then deodexed + JIT + Fugutweaks. The camera is an issue pretty much in every rom and it can be avoided by disabling the location stuff. Or it could be someone has a fixed Camera.apk laying around somewhere. If so, let me know, I want it.

no i was thinking that destiny might be the most stable ROM here and thats why i suggested it and as i said EVERY rom has bugs but i tought destiny didnt... and people should just try GreenMods ROM i dont want to say its the best, i know when people test it they will love it i dont have to recommend it

Hum.. i know X10 Mini Pro's ROM has Camera.apk that came with it, and works, but i prefer the Sony Ericsson's SECMCamera.apk instead. So i swapped it out. I wonder if that Camera.apk would work on Galaxy 3...
I think i will try to download and gather up the above mentioned 2 ROMs, and try it out this weekend then...

recommend a rom

after becoming fustrated with the lack of a update for north/latin america, ive decided to flash my phone. Im currently on jh2 and its working really well without problems. Ive download jpm to flash but not sure if it will work as its a european rom and also been hearing recently it has a few bugs like the battery showing an incorrect percentage.
So can any1 tell me if it will work/recommend me one that will.
Well i can tell you one thing - you will be getting lots of advises !
However, first you might try the latest Canadian Firmware which was released last week since that seems to be the closest stock ROM you can get for North America
P.S. - You might check THIS THREAD too...

I've installed indroid 4.2 and it's a really nice rom. The only thing until now that's not working is the gps. It takes really long time to get a fix. And when i get a fix, my google navigation crashes. In indroid 3 it was working perfectly.
Thanks for all the responses guys. As this is my first time flashing ill stick with stock. I have the the jpm without bootloader files so ill give it a go.
Btw anyone know if its recommended to remove your sim and sd when flashing or optional.
use stock JPM most of the custom roms are stock modded and nothing special..
Use stock and your own ****ty tweaks which is a lot better !
I recommend cyanogemod....Marcellusbe is working on that. It will be great if he finishes it.
try Destiny Based on JPN, and its fully stable.
I recommand the Kyrillos'ROM 5.5
It's the more stable and battery saver rom i've ever tried !

And yes, cyangenmod when it's finished, big thanks to marcellusbe

Even the indroid developers respond very quick and to the point. Rudolf is awesome. @everyone: go for indroid 4.3
Hi
My preference is:
Kyrillos 5.7 JPM-based with Fugumod 2.2 Bleeding Edge kernel OC 1300mHz
Most stable ROM I've used, quick responses and no FC so far (only been using again for 8 days but hey all the others I tried would FC a few times a day). I love it!
Switched to Indroid for a while and it is good but went back to Kyrillos as I prefer it.
Ive finally flashed (jpm). I just couldnt wait anymore. Everthing seems to be working good thus far, Thanks for all the help.
for american roms try stock DTLKDA or rafo's ROM those are the only ones I know for america I am currently on Rafo's Rom and its very stable btw I am new to this forum
I would recommend using team lambent kitchen and creating your own personal rom. I'm using jpq with g3 v1.32 lite for extra stability. G3 has a ram script built into it already so just remember not to install the ram hack performance mod.

Best rom at the moment?

Hi!
Im thinking about install a new rom to my phone but cant decide which...
I want a rom with so small bugs thats possible but still some features that makes the phone better
I installed this Clockwork Recovery for a pretty long time ago and dont remember what it do
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044585
So I wounder if I need it or just can remove it?
And if I gonna install a new rom, which Recovery is the best at the moment?
Would be very thankfull if somone with more experience could tell me their opinion!
My prefer is void. (2.2.2; #eridanus) by Noejn.
Install Perfect Recovery 4.0.0.5 and try yourself all ROMS.

Okey will try that rom and recovery
But if im not happy with the rom can I then change back to the orginal?
IF you take a backup with recovery yes,!

At the moment definitely VOID 2.2.2 latest
What makes void so great? Dec got rid if his phone so no more updates. Might as well use something that'll get new fw updates..
I believe that Oxygen is the best Rom at the moment. Miui is very good as well, but with Oxygen battery life is amazing (more than 40h, with wifi and BT on all the time) and it's got most things sorted.

It maybe so, but at least camera is fully functional.
So, which ROM would you suggest overall? Fully fuctional, acceptable battery life, speed etc. I'm with B137 v8.2 and I feel I need something new.
FYI, I usually clock the cpu to 1Ghz or 1,2Ghz.
then go for the v8.4 & his new kernel

how do you know that is. good Rom. did you tested it already? so is a room like void with Android 2. 2. 2
i use this rom for almost 2 months now. from v7 i think.
i never ever had a fc reboot etc (except 1 time i had the cpu at 1.5ghz).
everything is working fine, the only small problem lies in the modified franco kernel genokolar used (he modified it to be even more stable),
it has some problems on charging (franco's kernel had them also as i have read, i dont know if its fixed on his newest version cause the modified one is 1 version older than 20 july one).
(u can avoid that problem the kernel creates by not flashing the kernel and keeping v8.4 kernel).
here is a link that i have uploaded both 3
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=V99GYVBN
dont forget to install superuser from market or root will not work without it (as everywhere else also).
for the ones that want performance its not the best out there but its still a good one.
i get 24xx at quadrant at 1.3ghz when this void user gets the same at 1.5ghz but i get lower on antutu (3018, made a 2nd run and scored 3167 if it matters) propably cause of the 0.2gz less cpu speed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15978575&postcount=326
but this oxygen user gets allot more than me on 1.3ghz http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16303582&postcount=391
(i have also 1.2gb worth of apps installed if this matters)
the good thing this rom has is stability and everything works, from what i read most other roms have things not working, bugs and not that great stability, miui is a VERY good rom also (has its small bugs) cause its based on 2.3.5 but i dont like miui style ^^ (personal opinion).
oh i forgot to mention that its totally stock (except 1 small app with reboot, shutdown etc options).
i made some changes please re-read my answer

oh and flash works just fine, i dont see any reason not working.

Thank you very much. I have flashed your uploaded three files and would like to confirm that this v8.4 is the best ROM for u8800 nowadays. BTW, since the original ROM is from China, I do hope to have your help to keep update this ROM whenever there is a new version or any changes.
no problem, i can keep you updated, at least until Genokolar decides to put his work here.

Hey guys, so I'm kinda new at doing custom roms and kernels and I'm super eager to learn everything. I just unlocked my bootloader and rooted my phone succesfully yesterday. But of course, rooting the nexus s is a must to install custom roms.
I want to know what you guys think are GOOD and STABLE ROMS where everything seems to function.
I was looking at the nexusshacks website and they have the AOKP kang jellybean ROM but I'm hearing from a bit of people that not everything works and it freezes at the boot screen. also there's a problem that apparently you cant see your gallery and music, and also data doesnt work on it.... I just want something that works good and is stable and gives me good battery life!
Thanks for your time

The best thing about these ROM is you can try them for yourself and see if it work for you.
A lot of people don't follow the instruction and complain all the time, there are people enjoying the ROM and you will never hear from them. My respect to the developers who do great work, because of them I have the latest and best android experience ever, for the last two years I have no need to upgrade my phone.
Try them all.

Cool, thanks alot for the advice, I'd still like to know what other ROMs are out there tho so that I can try them all out one day
Is there a good kernel? I'm not too educated on kernels lol
Hi
Rooting isn't a must for installing custom roms you can always use fastboot tool to install custom recovery
I've flashed one million custom roms to my i9023. And what I learned from it is flashing most of them was just a waste of time. However, if I hadn't done this, I wouldn't have known what to choose now. Gingbread roms are really fast and responsive. However they are not so smooth when it comes to scrolling. Also gingerbread roms lack a lot of nice features that come in later builds.
ICS was a misunderstanding for me. It was slow, laggy but the functionality was better than gingerbread. I was ready to sell my nexus because of that disappointment.
Finally Jelly Bean came along. And that, my friend is something different. Project butter makes the phone so smooth, scrolling is superb, animations and applications seems so smooth now. Speed of gingerbread(almost) and looks and functionality of ics
You can try every rom you can. You're gonna waste a lot of time just on flashing restoring, flashing and restoring and so on. You might even get frustrated. Or you can try this and simply start liking your phone

This is pretty stock, just the way I like it. It's freaking smooth, it hardly ever lags, perfect to bring you some smile from using your nexus most of other roms always come up with some bug or lack of some feature that works on stock rom. The rom I mentioned simply works. Trust me and install this one and you won't regret

cool thanks man... ONE question before I begin... Im assuming the kernel is already in the ROM .zip file here right? Now if the kernel is seperate do you just add into the SD card like adding a ROM to the sd card? do you have to do anything under recovery?
Kernel is included. Just install this rom from the recovery kernels are always in a zip file, you install them like you install a rom.
But this time you don't have to even think about the kernel, because it's already built into whole rom zip file

the pic & music issue is probably related to the bad Rom manager app update that put .nomedia files where they didn't belong.
I always run a new/updated Rom with its baked in kernel for a day or two to see how it does before flashing a separate kernel, unless I have major issues related to the baked in kernel. Not all devices act the same, even on the exact same setup.

If you're new to the whole flashing game with the android devices id say start with Flashing Custom Kernels. So you can get the the feel for what just the kernel can do for your phone. There's a couple well named ones that you might hear a lot about like the Matr1x Kernel, GLaDOS Kernel, Thalamus Kernel. For the most part a few of them have the same stuff but certain Kernels run faster or smoother. Once you get the hang of that then move to Custom ROMS. As everyone says you kinda have to try out Everything for yourself as 2 people can have 2 completely different experiences with flashing. Essentially though, the Names that you see a lot are typically the most liked ROMS and Kernels for there Features and Stability.
Happy Flashing
I think its the other way around due to fact that I would not recommend flashing a kernel over stock ota without backing up first. Reason for this is that if you want to get an ota update with the stock ROM it won't work if the kernel is different from the one Google provides (experienced this problem while trying to flash a completely stock Google provided rom). So I would first flash a ROM and test it, trying as many features and see if that's what I like and then start experimenting with different kernels as most might not be stable for your particular phone. I am a vanilla Android type of person nonetheless.
Note: the rom a developer chooses are most likely the ones that he thinks are the most stable so in theory you should not run into any problem with it.

Hey guys i really appreciate the advise. Just to let you all know, I flashed AOKP kang ROM and it's so smooth and quick. I also flashed a matrix kernel v.22 (believe its the cfc version). However, I was really hoping to overclock my cpu a little to get some better gaming performance. I'm looking everything under the ROM settings and the actual phone settings to see if there's anything to change for the cpu.
How do I overclock the cpu??? I know there's customizable roms where you can overclock the cpu for games then tone it down for normal usage and what not; that's really what I wanted.

I use a an APP called "NSTools" or "SetCPU"
I'm order to oc, you must be using a kernel that supports oc. The matr1x 22.5 (his jb version) doesn't support oc, but he should have a new version it soon. I can't say if it can be overclocked though.

good question.. personally I use codename (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1839249) with air kernel(that supports oc, even if I set max cpu 1000 as default).. really fast, no lags with good battery life and everything seems work great. I've tried a lot of roms and a lot of them are really good (I like to change a lot) and in my opinion you have to try a lot of them and chose your favourite
p.s.every time you flash a rom or kernel is better to make a backup(and then a wipe), so if something went wrong you can restore the phone as it was before.. sometimes kernel is not included in rom, you have to check it in phone informations.
I hope this was what you needed

Hey I actually checked out that codename jellybean thread you showed me... I clicked on the link and their zip is 3.1.0 and i have 3.3.2 downloaded on my computer.... I got the file from nexusshacks.com - am i missing something? Also, Im not sure if there's a kernal that comes with it, so i was wondering if there is any kernels and if there is, do you have a link?:cyclops:
EDIT: I'm going to have to apologize to AOKP. I think the ROM i was running on my phone was a buggy ROM, the unstable one before BUILD 1. I didnt realize this until I watched a video on nexusshacks.com.. but either way i flashed codename jellybean

I gave you the link with 3.3.2.. even because it's the same ad 3.3.0 but updated:laugh:
kernel is not included in that rom.. I use air kernel, which has everything you asked for (use nstools to control it). this is the link
