Just saw the update pop up on my phone. I am only on Wifi as well.
Did a quick google and this seems to be the updates with the new Homescreen (with themes!)
I won't pop the update as I am on an unlocked BL. Probs gonna wait till someone posts a flashable update.
Not available for me...
Nothing here.

Big Red is still blank as well.
Possibilty that OP got a phantom update message like many phones do.

Dont know how the OP has got notice of one tbh.
No update for Global Generic.
OP must have had the Update inception dream.
Got a UK unbranded Xperia Play here and no update........still. Seriously why is it taking so long for the update to be released for the Play when it's out for the Arc and Neo. Not impressed :|.

Just now i go to one of the SingTel roadshow, and they offer me firmware upgrade to Xperia X10, but since mine i rooted, i declined. I was thinking, i go back home, rebrand the phone again with SingTel firmware, then tomorrow i go back again.
But then i found this blog. Currently downloading the update, with very slow connection, maybe because many people using the internet TV to watch world cup final. hehe.
follow up will come after i done.
Hi.
The blog post is from two days ago, and doesn't seem to be anyone else mentioning it, so I'll wait and see.
Hope it is the 2.1 update but I somehow doubt it as no one else has mentioned this anywhere. This would be big if it was real so I'll wait for your follow up. Post pictures aswell
Edit: After looking at the blog correctly (lol) this is just the latest update for the Update Service. And if this is for the 23 version I still wouldnt download it...extremely minor update to 20 and less stable.
LOL! this isn't android 2.1 what a retarded blog. Its a download for the sony ericsson update service which happens to be version 2.10.7.15 so they thought its was android 2.1. and since when are ROMS 37MB? HA

In case you didnt notice, the download is simply the Sony Ericsson Update Service. This does not mean that it will update your phone to the firmware based on Android 2.1. Most probably you will just get the latest firmware i.e R2BA023. This release is most certainly not based on Android 2.1.

Just logged into Update Service and my phone downloaded something, it wasn't 2.1, and it still has build r2ba020. Sony installed something but don't know what. could be trying to plug the root holes?

Hey Chetan, care tell everyone exactly how to do that using flash tool and omnius? I mean don't you need to get the decrypted files (*.sin etc) in order to be able to flash them with these tools.
The new updated SEUS can be used to obtain them but its clearly a long drawn complicated process.
After trying to rebrand my Xperia X10 back to SingTel for whole 2 x 45 of world cup final, then SEUS updates, finally updated to.... R2BA020 SingTel... with Creatouch preinstalled.
Expectation too high.. beuuuh.. well i was hoping for something because we know that SEUS updates is brand specific, and so far i never see any decrypted rom updates for SingTel brand or anything even related. so just may be. July is Q3 after all. hehe.
no 2.1 available yet...

Wonder if it is R2BA027 or R2BA028. Maybe it is to correct the WiFi bug that some have been experiencing.

People just calm down, and stop blowing your own mind regarding FW updates. I'll rather dicuss when our OS get updatet to 2.1 etc later this month or end of September. And i got my hands on a test version for the X10i. So you can all soon been awaiting it on OTA or thru SEUS tools.
Enjoy.

Why bother posting in the thread if its not related to the OP topic?!
@vickysud theres a thread on 2.1 already on the forum please use that for discussion or start a new thread asking FRAPSROOTET directly please!
@All who are confused... The OTA version of the builds is a patch version which downloads only the bits that need to change.. the SEUS or PCC version downloads the complete file and in my experience the SEUS version was actually a bit slicker.
Just wondering as others got 026 other day. Im on orange but dont yhink the phone is branded to them it was from a 3rd party store not sure what the sigs are but I dont have any orange branded apps on the phone. Not had any updates since 020 would annoy me if 2.1 came and I couldnt pick it up lol
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Well if that happened then you could just debrand.
My phone is rooted and I still get updates though.
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Got bad news im afraid the phone is branded just secretly, the traffic TV app is exclusive to orange
to debrand i suggest you download http://www.megaupload.com/?d=NPNW099K that, follow the instructions to install the 026 firmware, that what i did and i believe it is now debranded, it also roots, etc.
vengeance
I'd follow steps 1-5 HERE to debrand, then run SEUS to get 026.
I rooted and debranded, so I could get 020 generic months ago, but I got an OTA prompt to say an update was available yesterday and to update via. SEUS. Haven't done so as I don't want to brick my phone, so am considering my options, whether or not it would be safer to flash my old O2 016 files, and then try to run the update. Even that could go wrong though,so maybe I should just take the risk. but dont want to brick my phone
I take it debranding is the obly way to get 2.1 on release for me then? Is there a chance of recovery if i brickit lol used ti flash alit of custom roms on winmo but still quite new to android

The chance of bricking it is next to none so wouldn't worry about it.
first of all, is it branded? if so maybe is your carrier if not then you just screwed it XD
There's still no confirmation as to when it will be headed to the soon-to-be-released Verizon Xperia Play, but Recombu is reporting that at least some iterations of the phone will be getting upgraded to Android 2.3.4 next week, at which point the Xperia Arc will also get bumped up to the same version. Assuming there's no surprises in the next week, that would seem to make them the first non-Nexus phones to get the update.

Yup. Looks like SE is keeping their promise.

As far as I know you will still be able to update with an unlocked bootloader and keep it unlocked. You will however most likely lose root.

DO NOT UPDATE! all signs point to the fact that you will brick your phone if you update with an unlocked bootloader.
When costum roms appear it probably won;t take long for them to implement 2.3.4. I advice to wait for that if your bootlaoder is unlocked.
Sony Ericsson has confirmed that you will be able to still get SEUS updates as long as you carry on using stock SE firmware, even if the bootloader is unlocked.

It’s also noted that, while Sony Ericsson have provided this service, using it may void your warranty. Also if you change the bootloader or load custom ROMs on to the handset, you will not be able to receive updates provided by Sony Ericsson through SEUS. However if unlocking the boot loader is all you do, you will be able to continue to receive updates from Sony Ericsson as usual.

SE themselves allowed the boot loader to be unlocked and not some third party unlocking it. So surely as long as the boot loader is unlocked and nothing else is done it should be ok?
Maybe rooting your phone and removing bloat makes SE think you have modified the firmware? Not sure but some guy on SE fourms http://talk.sonyericsson.com/message/75368 claims to be able to use SEUS to repair his Arc with an unlocked bootloader and the thread is from the 18th may.

Hey everyone,
O2 released the official ICS for O2 Branded Galaxy S2 devices today for anyone who wishes to know. Not sure if this is the right section, so I am sorry if it is wrong.
I updated mine there now. Looks nice so far; but may need to flash it with a version without touchwiz; this is the first time I have hated touchwiz on a rom.
Regards,
T.
You got me all excited but it hasn't shown up on Kies for me.
LPxx update..
Just appeared in my Kies, I take it this is the firmware update LPxx ? Does anyone know if this will affect root (as mine is rooted) ?

I bought it pretty recently from phones4u on contract with O2. So I'm pretty certain.
Could it be that they're staggering the updates so they don't have every single SGS2 user trying to download ICS at once?

You have an Unlocked version if bought from Phones4U. It is contract with O2, but still unlocked. When connected to KIES and it says "This is the latest version", underneath it will have the PDA, CSC code etc. It will end in XEU; this is unlocked. If it ends in O2U; it is O2 locked.
