Now, either my eyesight is seriously failing, or there is some weird bug going the rounds. This happens using the Energy ROM and I have noticed this for quote some time:
It seems each song in my (4Gb worth of Music) Storage Card is doubled up in the Sense Music Player "Now playing"... I havent got any playlists setup and have deleted Audiomanager.vol a couple of times and each time the Music Player recreates, the doubleups are there again.
I thought maybe setting upa playlist mught help, but the odd thing is as I add a single song it adds to the playlist as a double and from there I cant delete the song...
ANyone seeing this and/or solved this????? This is sending me spare, so any/all help will be gratefully recieved.
P.S. I have posted this in the Energy ROM forum as well, just in case
Just in case anyone else has this problem... I found the solution:
Went & had a look at the Registry entries (why I didnt go there in the first place, I will never know)... it seems for some odd reason the HKLM\Software\HTC\AudioManager_eng\Config had both a device_scan_path_path set to \Storage Card\My Music and a device_scan_path_path_0 also set to the same directory - deleting the entry for path_path and then redoing the deletes & resets, then brought everything back to normal. The path_path entry was then reset to "My Documents" and all was right with the world.

Hi All,
I have a 2GB storage card. I have been playing music just fine for months and then all of a sudden when I try to access the music via the library I get the following error message: An Unexpected Error Has Occurred. I can play the music files when I go through the Explorer program with out a problem.
I searched the forums but all I found was one post that suggested hard reseting. But I'm trying to avoid that since silly me can't recall all the registry tweaks made, how they were made, or even how to get them back. Unfortunatley, job is kicking my a## so hard I don't have time to re-research for a while. Also, the post suggested something being wrong with a files id3 tag. After discovering what that was (end portion of the mp3 file where the data about the audio files is stored like title, artist etc...for those who didn't know) I figure this can't be the problem b/c the music files haven't changed - so they were ok prior too - anyway they play in the Explorer. Also, when I go in WMP, go to menu, and open file, I can play it. Update library works but I still get the same error message when I try to play music. I tried a soft reset - no changes. Tried Google - found quite a few people have had the same problem but no one had a solution.
Thoughts?? Please help got a 2.5 hour flight tomorrow that would be much better with music!!
Thanks!
Bump....
Out of desperation - someone here has to have a clue....Thanks!
well when i had that problem i copyed all files off the card on to laptop (has card reader) then i formated the card to fat 16 and have not had any problems since!!!
You can try that!
If you are using Oxios Memory Hibernate, quit using it. That seemed to be my problem when that error message occurred.
Hi Guys,
I have a fairly standard (a few basic tweaks here and tere) Touch HD and when I got it I removed the two demo tracks from it via the Music screen. I created a folder on my SD card called "Music" and loaded up a couple of music albums using direct transfer (ie not ActivSych). I then pointed the Music screen at the SD card, it did a search found the albums and listed them including the album cover artwork.
A few days later I decided to change the albums and deleted the two original albums I had previously loaded in favour of two more (by the same artist). The problem I have is that in the track list I can still see the tracks from the original 2 albums I loaded and where the cover artwork should be there is now a grey box with an exclaimation mark (!) in it. When i flick through the tracks on the "Playing Now" screen it passes over the no longer available tracks and skips to the next available track.
I'm assuming that the current track list is held somewhere in an xml file and that it hasn't update properly.
It could also be that I'm pointing to the SD card, where was the location of the original two demo tracks??
Any help appreciated..........
try taking the memory card out while you are in the tf3d music screen and then plug it back in. that should force it to update it's database. the two demotracks are stored in Device: My Documents : My Music
but once after a hard reset i saw them in Device: My Documents : MUSIC .. but anyway try taking the card out and see what happens
Thanks for a quick reply.
Since I posted I removed all music from the SD and now the "Music" screen just says "Searching". However if I go into the Library the original tracks are still listed and are still missing their album art. Obviously the dont play.
I have just removed the SD as suggested and done a soft reset using the button and.....They're still there exactly as described above....GGrrrrr.
Isn't it funny how the smallest thing can drive you NUTS....!!!!
i know i'd be annoyed if something i deleted stays there and stares right at my face lol i feel you man but i have no idea what to do other than taking the card out and plugging it back in while in the musicscreen. that did work for me once.. wait till someone more experienced than i am shows up cause you're not going to like my backup solution to this problem lol
did anyone find a fix for when you are in the song List and when you try to scroll the songs disappears?

Hard reset.....NNNooooo !!!!!
I'm tempted......but only when frustrated by the whole thing.
Somewhere out there a Touch HD Guru is waiting to enlighten me (hopefully)/
I had similar issue with my device - Only "Searching" was displayed on the "Music" screen.
I got over it by deleting the following file: My Device\Application Data\HTC\AudioManager_Eng. Then it recreated whole database from scratch.
MKo_1 you are a SUPERSTAR...!!!!!!
Deleted the file as suggested and all those nasty old files with there nasty old grey boxes have gone.
Days of frustration and pulling my hair out have all now been washed away in a haze of heady excitement.
All I can say is thank goodness for XDA Developers and especially MKo_1.

Thanks MKo_1 !
You solved my problem too !
You can fix the Artist lists etc not showing by flashing to a new custom rom - all of the new manila roms I have tried have solved this problem. I guess it just depends as to whether or not you want to flash your rom
I get the "searching...." problem in music player too. I tried to delete the file referenced but it won't let me. Just to confirm is it the directory named audioManager_Eng or the file of the same name with a .vol suffix? I tried both..... It managed to delete playlist for the directory but not the directory.
I've just came across a problem that I can't seen to resolve: my Music Tab from sense just hung up one time, lending me to have a forced soft reset.
Ok, I just thought it would be something I've uploaded and, after reset, went into the Music Tab again.
Now, it just restarts HTC Sense.
I took off my MicroSD and soft reset the HD2: nothing! Every time I load Music Tab, Sense restarts by itself.
I've already erased every single audio file, and still the Music Tab cause Sense to restart every time it's acessed.
I started to happen when I started playing some mp3 files I've just uploaded. It played the file for something like 10 seconds than this started to happen.
Does anyone know how to solve it? Is there a "Music Tab" cache or indexer somewere that can be erased?
I have Manila 2.5.1921 and a 1.66.707 WEE based ROM from Laurentius26 dated 01/12/10 (don't think it's ROM related, though).
I've searched forum but didn't found someone having a problem similar to this...
Is hard reset or flashing another ROM the only solution?
And here is the solution:

Try to delete the music-library file: Application Data/HTC/AudioManager_Eng/AudioManager_Eng.vol (the file is hidden) The next time you hit the music tab, this file is rebuild again.
Maybe this will solve it.

this is defo a bug as its happened to me as well as a few others.i created a thread on the issue a while ago http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=639497
i think it happened to me because i loaded up too much music without hitting the "sync" button in between albums. i ended up re-flashing my phone which isnt a problem as all my app cabs are stored on my card. im afraid all i can suggest is to re-flash your phone and sync between every album you upload. touch wood its worked for me up to now......
Thanks!
It did help!
But I would never find your topic since the keywords I was using didn't match the ones you used, hehe.
Nevertheless, here is the solution for future reference:

I deleted the file but SENSE crushed and it does not start :S
Thank you for this fix. Love when I can solve something with 30 seconds of googling, and people editing their original posts to describe the fix makes that possible ^^
In my case, cookie home tab was causing sense to never start/keep restarting because I'd added the music player to one of the home screens. Fixing the music player made this issue go away.
Hi All,
I have a new TMOUS HD2 with the stock rom. I've flashed HSPL and I've added a few tweaks such as landscae mode. Nothing too much for now.
Problem I'm having is that every time I navigate to the music player it seems to hang and I end up getting the "send to M$" notice and phone's locked up. Then I have to restart the phone again.
I have the music stored on my storage card under Music/Artist/Album/Song and I have about 4 gigs worth.
Any ideas to what this could be? Appreciate the help.

You flashed HSPL, but not a new rom?
I would start by putting just one or two mp3's on your phone's onboard storage, then pulling the card out, soft-resetting, and then seeing if your music tab finds and is able to play those couple of mp3's without locking up.
If it works fine then, you're probably experiencing the same issue many HD2 owners have been dealing with when accessing a large volume of files on the SD card. There's a number of suspected causes, mainly relating to the fact that the music (and documents) tab(s) index the whole contents of the card to find and catalog those types of files for quick use in the tabs. Therefore, a large number of files on the card seem to bog down not just those tabs but often the whole phone.
Another cause is believed to be the fact the factory card shipped with the HD2 is only a class-2 card, the slowest of all the speed ratings. If you have access to a faster card (class-4, -6, etc), even if it's a smaller size card, try that and see if it improves things any. If not, then your only other option right now is to reduce the number of files on your card until it doesn't lock up when sense tries to index it all. It's rumored that there's an update coming shortly from HTC/Tmobile, and I'm hoping that it might address this issue, but I'm not holding my breath.
I personally believe that the code used to do that indexing just isn't able to scale to the volumes of files seen now in the larger SD cards.
EDIT: Also, if you're not using it, be sure to turn off the "recent documents" tab...I don't know that it will clear up the problems with the music tab, but it can possibly help avoid lagging overall.
I can see what you mean about the indexing. Does it index each time the phone is rebooted or does it store the indexing in cache that's reused?

I honestly wish I knew
I've been trying hard to come up with a solution to this issue, and I'm afraid that's one of the unknowns that I'm struggling with...how/when exactly the process is triggered, and whether or not there's any cacheing. I suspect that it indexes (in some form anyway) much more often than every reboot, as you'll see if you delete a music file, and see how quickly the list in the music tab reflects that change.

Sirphunkee..I remember a while back when I first started reading this HD2 forum. Since before I was in the Wing Section. I read somewhere about copying a file to the startup in the windows folder. I cant remember exactly what file it was but it had to do with the music so when you woke the phone up it automatically started queing up the music that way when you went to click on the music tab it was already cached and ready to play?! I have yet to come across that thread again so that I could try it out?!

Ok cool, thank you! I hadn't heard about that one, so I'll go look for it and see if it gives me any insight. Did you have TF3D (the older version of sense) on your Wing, with a music tab? Maybe this is behavior that HTC added to sense at some point, with the same exact intent in mind...
you can disable the docindexservice perhaps it will be of some help. I don't use NRG ROM but the cook did put this cab out and you can give it a try, if it doesnt work just simply uninstall it and your settings will be back to normal
Disable Docindexer.cab

Sweet! Thanks again Jimmy...I'm gonna dig into this when I get home this evening, and poke around in the registry area it changes (HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila\HTCService).
I'm curious if it just does the same thing as turning off the documents tab, or if turning off the service is a wider-reaching change. Since this is the personal handiwork of NRG, I'll ping him too, but I know he's busy.
there are a number of possibilities (though i agree its likely to be the indexing)
don't use sync to copy the music, use disk mode, or put the sd in the comp
excessively long path\filename.mp3
extended set ASCII characters in the mp3 tags,,,
i'd copy over a few dozen albums at a time, see if there's a noticeable point which problems start.
also some connected reading here

Hahaha thanks Sam...I JUST finished reading over the same thread LOL Very helpful, and it's given me some further insights into this.
toreone, the first think I noticed common to your problem and the one in the thread samsamuel posted is that your music has a rather deep file structure (4 layers deep). I haven't seen anybody mention that in the troubleshooting, so it might be worth seeing if the same volume of music, but no more than 2 folders deep, still gives the same issue.
Also, in that thread, sammybusse made and posted the cab below, which makes simple registry change related to chacheing: HKLM\System\StorageManager\Profiles\SDMemory\FATFS
EnableChache 1 (changed from 0 to 1). So, perhaps the problem stems from the fact that it wasn't chacheing, rather than doing it too aggressively..
I haven't had a chance yet to poke around with it, but I think it's certainly safe enough to try and see if it makes any difference for you (it helped some people in that thread).
Another solution tried there, that had some level of success, was making sure you don't have any of the mp3's set as "read only"

Here it is:
Go to your Windows folder and find the file "AudioManager_Eng.exe" Create a shortcut (.lnk file) of this file and put it in your Windows\StartUp folder.

Nibbley, when I did this, for some reason the file would only be renamed as AudioManager_Eng.lnk.exe. And once you do it, you can't seem to delete the file. Just a heads up.

Here you go I created a shortcut and made a cab to put it in start up. Let me know how it works
before reading further, try this first. it resolved mine:
"Go to Application Data\HTC\AudioManager_Eng, delete "AudioManager_Eng.vol and make a soft reset."
[orginal post]
I'm out of ideas.
I have a kingston 8gb micro sd "HC 4" card in my hd2
(rom 1.66.404.1 (76641) NLD).
the little wheel in the upper left corner of the music player tab keeps turning and nothing plays.
I've tried formatting my memcard, I've tried reducing the number of songs in the music folder.
I tried putting only around 20 songs in the main music folder (thinking putting the music in folder within another folder may cause the prob) but to no use.
and yes I did use the "music stability hotAIR"
complete waste of time. didnt help a thing.
Nitrogen plays my mp3s with no probs. I'm trying to get the native music player working coz I can't control nitro with my wireless headphones. controlling the volume works but not skipping beween songs.
is anybody else experiencing this? any suggestions?
I have the same problem. I get an error msg, something about AudioManager_eng i believe. please can someone help.

hmh... sounds like quite a drastic measure. isnt it a good idea to cut and move it to a different location temporarliy?
in any case thats what i'll be doing and i suggest to others the same.
thanx for taking the time fighter!
You don't have to backup file. System will create a new one, after deleting.
HOLY COWS!! two months of searching, dozens of correspondence with HTCs (extreme slo-mo tec support), after banging my head against the walls and biting on my hd2, fighter comes along and says "naahh, do this, it will work" AND IT DOES!!
god danm, if i knew i'd travel to Greece to get this solution.
thanx very very much FIGHTER! how many times can I click on the thanx button?... oh, uh.. it's gone
