Hi All,
I have a 2GB storage card. I have been playing music just fine for months and then all of a sudden when I try to access the music via the library I get the following error message: An Unexpected Error Has Occurred. I can play the music files when I go through the Explorer program with out a problem.
I searched the forums but all I found was one post that suggested hard reseting. But I'm trying to avoid that since silly me can't recall all the registry tweaks made, how they were made, or even how to get them back. Unfortunatley, job is kicking my a## so hard I don't have time to re-research for a while. Also, the post suggested something being wrong with a files id3 tag. After discovering what that was (end portion of the mp3 file where the data about the audio files is stored like title, artist etc...for those who didn't know) I figure this can't be the problem b/c the music files haven't changed - so they were ok prior too - anyway they play in the Explorer. Also, when I go in WMP, go to menu, and open file, I can play it. Update library works but I still get the same error message when I try to play music. I tried a soft reset - no changes. Tried Google - found quite a few people have had the same problem but no one had a solution.
Thoughts?? Please help got a 2.5 hour flight tomorrow that would be much better with music!!
Thanks!
Bump....
Out of desperation - someone here has to have a clue....Thanks!
well when i had that problem i copyed all files off the card on to laptop (has card reader) then i formated the card to fat 16 and have not had any problems since!!!
You can try that!
If you are using Oxios Memory Hibernate, quit using it. That seemed to be my problem when that error message occurred.

I doubt this is specific to this model phone, but....
Basically had a device that was acting funny enough to deserve a hard reset. I had about 25 music files that were DRM-protected but sync fine and play flawlessly on my Storage Card. (Oddly, that's the LIMIT! Windows Media balks at anything over 25 and gives an error, which Microsoft recognizes and comments on on their site - anyone know anything about this?)
After the hard reset, none of the files would play, which I didn't take as any huge surprise, I just synched again. No go - The files synch fine, but I get an error saying something about the filesize being too large and unable to play ANY file in my library. (the actual error message is in Chinese, so I'm not sure about the exact wording in English, sorry)
I have deleted MSMETADATA from the storage card and thought this would solve the problem, and upon the next synch I got a new directory that I didn't notice before - WMDRM, and a file WMPInfo.xml. Don't know exactly what these do, or if I should delete them.
Has anyone experienced this and have any advice on a next step? I really REALLY don't want to hard-reset again as I've kinda given up on SPB Backup (it was after a scheduled backup that things got strange) and am re-installing things by hand.
Thanks in advance!
It seems that when I switched from my 512MB micro SD card to my 2GB sandisk microSD card, windows media player could no longer see the storage card when adding to the library. When i select menu-->Library and select library drop down from the top menu, I only see my device and not the storage card. Is there something that i can do to resolve this? Is there away to reinstall WMP10 client on my 8525 without reloading my entire phone? I am howerver able to select Menu-->Library-->menu-->Open File and can see the storage card but who wants to do this each time i want to listen to music.
Thanks for any assistance.
Have you tried updating the library?
I have the exact same problem. I can see the card in file explorer and through the "open file..." menu in WMP, but it doesn't show up in the library. Adding the files from it to the library hangs not on searching the card (it finds the files on it) but it hangs on actually adding them to the library.
My card is a SanDisk Ultra II 2 GB. I thought it might have something to do with the 2GB threshold that was the origin of many problems in earlier (desktop) windows versions.
I am planning to try and test it with some other mediaplayer. Anyone has a suggestion which player to try?
hey guys, I too have experienced this exact issue and it just started about a week ago. I did not make/add changes.
For months, I have been able to see the library from WM10 and one day I realized the same symptoms as previously described. I'm not sure what the fix is.
Yes, I m having the same problem, just only recently, i didnt install and upgrade anything. Out of a sudden, I just can't see the 2GB Card anymore. Planning to perform hard reset on this weekend.
Delete the MSMetadata folder
Had the same problem. Here is how I fixed it.
On your storage card delete the MSMETADATA folder. Then update your Library again in WMP.
That fixed it for me.
Every now and then this also happens to me... Last 2 times I resorted to a hard reset...
But deleting the MSMETADATA folder did the trick for me.
Thanks!

Missing data card in WMP 10
It's a known issue with HTC Hermes. HTC Europe told me it would be resolved with the next software upgrade. Well I am still waiting for that to happen.(Since Sept. 2006)
The workabout above is the only way to restore your data card in the Media Player, but you will find it "drops" out every so often. I am so used to this routine already that I can do it in my sleep.
This problem only seemed to occur on the earlier models. - Before serial no. 631...........
So I wonder about the software side as I have upgraded to the latest ROM and the problem persists!
Regards
Thanks guys. I removed the MSMETADATA and it resolved my problem. I am now able see the storage card in the library and have WMP search for new files in the library without failing.
Dang...Wish i had seen this thread before...I did thehard reset
On the up side i got rid of a lot of stuff i wasnt using
What do you know it worked for me too. Thank you big time.
Thanks for this thread
Was getting really confused why my card had dissappeared in Media Player. Deleting the folder did the trick. Thanks!

while you are in explorer on your pocket pc you have to go into "menu" on the bottom right of your screen and then click on (activate or check), "show all files" that way you will see the hidden files on your sd card an you can delete it
Solution: Use TCPMP.
Seriously, the ONLY thing I use WMP for anymore is WMA/WMV streaming and playback. As far as I can tell, WMP can't even do streaming MP3 playback; it chokes on every URL I give it saying the data is corrupted or it's a format it doesn't support.
MSMETADATA Deleting
First off thank you very f#@@king mucho!! This had been driving me nuts. I went into the file explore>storage card> menu>tools>options>view tab> uncheck hidden files>ok>the MSMETADATA folder should appear> delete that should fix your problem.
YEAH!
Searching here first really does help.
Problem still exists on Hermes WM6 official, and the workaround still works.
Recently(couple days ago) Windows Media stopped finding music on my storage card. The files are no longer included in the library and if I update the library the files won't be added. I also can't change the directory to the storage card anymore. If I use the open file option I can open the storage card and play a file or folder but i cannot add the files to the library. Previously this worked fine. I haven't made any changes or anything lately and I am confused. Any ideas?
Also my camera button stopped working. It feels kind of loose. Pressing it has no effect. I can run the camera no problem, it is just the external camera button. I haven't dropped my device either. I've thought about cracking it open to check the problem out but figured I should ask here to see if it's common.
I'm running the official att WM6 rom on my 8525 and I have been since it came out. Neither of the problems started then. Please let me know if anyone has any idea on either problem!!! Thanks!!

Regarding media center, I have heard of a file getting corrupted and if you delete that file, it will fix it. I cannot remember the file name, but a little searching should find it.
Regarding the camera button, I can only suggest that you check the hardware button assignments and see if it got changed somehow.
Use explorer on the device and delete the metadata file from the storage card, then update the library through windows media on the device ans you should be good to go - it is very likely to occur again so stick a note in office just in case
thanks guys, I actually ended up finding the media fix on my own, had to do it a couple times now... The camera button is definitely a physical problem it has a loose feel to it, and does nothing upon being pressed. The button is correctly assigned.
Hi Guys,
I have a fairly standard (a few basic tweaks here and tere) Touch HD and when I got it I removed the two demo tracks from it via the Music screen. I created a folder on my SD card called "Music" and loaded up a couple of music albums using direct transfer (ie not ActivSych). I then pointed the Music screen at the SD card, it did a search found the albums and listed them including the album cover artwork.
A few days later I decided to change the albums and deleted the two original albums I had previously loaded in favour of two more (by the same artist). The problem I have is that in the track list I can still see the tracks from the original 2 albums I loaded and where the cover artwork should be there is now a grey box with an exclaimation mark (!) in it. When i flick through the tracks on the "Playing Now" screen it passes over the no longer available tracks and skips to the next available track.
I'm assuming that the current track list is held somewhere in an xml file and that it hasn't update properly.
It could also be that I'm pointing to the SD card, where was the location of the original two demo tracks??
Any help appreciated..........
try taking the memory card out while you are in the tf3d music screen and then plug it back in. that should force it to update it's database. the two demotracks are stored in Device: My Documents : My Music
but once after a hard reset i saw them in Device: My Documents : MUSIC .. but anyway try taking the card out and see what happens
Thanks for a quick reply.
Since I posted I removed all music from the SD and now the "Music" screen just says "Searching". However if I go into the Library the original tracks are still listed and are still missing their album art. Obviously the dont play.
I have just removed the SD as suggested and done a soft reset using the button and.....They're still there exactly as described above....GGrrrrr.
Isn't it funny how the smallest thing can drive you NUTS....!!!!
i know i'd be annoyed if something i deleted stays there and stares right at my face lol i feel you man but i have no idea what to do other than taking the card out and plugging it back in while in the musicscreen. that did work for me once.. wait till someone more experienced than i am shows up cause you're not going to like my backup solution to this problem lol
did anyone find a fix for when you are in the song List and when you try to scroll the songs disappears?

Hard reset.....NNNooooo !!!!!
I'm tempted......but only when frustrated by the whole thing.
Somewhere out there a Touch HD Guru is waiting to enlighten me (hopefully)/
I had similar issue with my device - Only "Searching" was displayed on the "Music" screen.
I got over it by deleting the following file: My Device\Application Data\HTC\AudioManager_Eng. Then it recreated whole database from scratch.
MKo_1 you are a SUPERSTAR...!!!!!!
Deleted the file as suggested and all those nasty old files with there nasty old grey boxes have gone.
Days of frustration and pulling my hair out have all now been washed away in a haze of heady excitement.
All I can say is thank goodness for XDA Developers and especially MKo_1.

We're already having a thread on this issue:

But: there still isn't any solution...

Thanks MKo_1 !
You solved my problem too !
You can fix the Artist lists etc not showing by flashing to a new custom rom - all of the new manila roms I have tried have solved this problem. I guess it just depends as to whether or not you want to flash your rom
I get the "searching...." problem in music player too. I tried to delete the file referenced but it won't let me. Just to confirm is it the directory named audioManager_Eng or the file of the same name with a .vol suffix? I tried both..... It managed to delete playlist for the directory but not the directory.
Hello everyone,
I tried finding a solution for this on Google and through the forums here and fell short.
When I record mp4 files with the Camcorder on my HD2 that are larger than, say 90MB, they do not play on the device (when you tap the file, nothing happens). Also, when I copy these files on my Windows PC, Quicktime prompts a "Bad Public Movie Atom".
I cannot find a way to recover these files...and it does not happen with smaller mp4s.
Anybody experience this/found a fix for it?
Really? No one's experienced this? Sorry for being a little desperate and bumping this thread...but if anyone can help...would be much appreciated. I figured if anyone could help, it would be the guys at XDA. Thanks again.
Have you tried playing them with some other program?
Yes I have...Quicktime...RealPlayer...Windows Media Player...Media Player Classic...Divx Player. I always get a random error message about how the file cannot be played back. They will not play on my Archos 5IT either. Very frustrating. What is surprising to me is that no one else has reported similar behavior on the HD2, at least to my knowledge.
Doesn't make a whole lotta sense to me...as I frequently record stuff thats like 150+MB for my YouTube...and they work just fine. What kinda SD card and formatting are you using?
I am using the 16gb SanDisk SD card that came with the phone (class 2 I believe). I have not changed the formatting since I bought it.
Well man, that is just terrible all the way around...uhm, have you tried hard resetting? I am at a total loss here.
try open the file in some tag editor software, change any tag, save it. See what happens, and let us know.

Thanks for the tip. Installed Mp3Tag v2.46a. When I try to save the tag I get an error message: "File cannot be opened for writing". The file is not set to Read Only...so I am not sure why I am getting this message.
ah well, it was just something i came across on google.
Well, seems that I found the root to the problem. I backed up all the contents of my SD card to the computer, then formatted the SD card, using the format function on my HD2. After I restarted and copied all my backed up content back, the camcorder now shoots videos normally...and they come out much smaller in size than before. The down-side is, the corrupt videos I took before will not work, and I still have no way to fix them, even after trying all the suggestions that come up after a Google search.
I just felt obliged to share...if you are shooting corrupt videos with your HTC HD2...format your SD card, and it will solve the problem for future videos.
