Hi forum - I updated my GT540Go to 2.1-update 1. V20a a few months ago using the kdz method and i think i rooted it, I have the superuser icon but some apps say i still need root access??? and would like to go to 2.2 openswift (newest version with most bugs fixed) with recovery and overclock.
Now when i connect to PC Suite IV it says i have an update available so my first question is what will it update my phone to if i do it?
I have now read/watched everything i can find about flashing to 2.2 but it all still looks too complicated, Is there a proper step by step guide anywhere that i can use with some confidence?
Please help me and others like me who are confused how to use ADB and SDK
Thanks.
Best to wait until OpenSwift is out of beta and is nearly complete then install. Really no point in upgrading now if you don't know how to do it.
I am a newb and managed to flash to 2.2 with a guide I found at the android forums. Would be happy to post it here if it might help.
Love the new rom its faster and aside from camera not saving pics and no screen calibrator it is fine.
Dave

This is a guide I followed from another forum, and posted elsewhere with some minor additions in case anyone had problems.
The guide is from a forum post at the android forums,it is NOT my work, the added bits are mostly what I have found from browsing here and from asking questions. While I can't be held liable if you mess your phone up having done so myself I thought this could helpa few people and save them searching various threads for answers so hope it helps
The guide
To install this ROM you need to have fastboot enabled on your phone. If you have Android 1.6/2.1 installed from LG, then fastboot is not enabled. I will explain how to enable fastboot on your phone (this involves re-flashing/replacing your currently installed firmware):
I am unable to post links yet so you will have to copy and paste the appropriate link into your browser replacing the ** with tt
KDZ Updater Carphone Warehouse Unlocked.zip can be downloaded at h**p://goo.gl/7aRTc - A link to a zip archive with all the files needed to flash to Android version 2.1 with fastboot (Carphone Warehouse Unlocked)
KDZ Updater Europe Open.zip can be downloaded at h**p://goo.gl/BOcYT - A link to a zip archive with all the files needed to flash toAndroid version 2.1 with fastboot (Europe Open)
Download the version that best applies to you, if you live in the UK, I'd recommend you download the Carphone Warehouse Unlocked version, whereas if you live in Europe, I'd recommend the Europe Open version (simple right? )
I live in the UK and used the open rom from Europe as the Carphone Warehouse rom would not install
Now, how to flash these versions; I'll explain in detail how to flash the ROM's from starting with backing up.
Instructions to install ROM with Fastboot:
1. Before you start, make sure you backup all your data by installing the z4root.1.3.0.apk file onto your phone, then open it and choose 'Permanent Root'. Your phone will root and reboot. Then go to the Market and install 'MyBackup Root', open it and do a backup of your apps and personal data (contacts, sms, call log etc.) Once this is done, go to Settings>SD Card and Phone Storage>Unmount SD Card, a notification in the notification bar should appear saying 'SD Card safe to remove'. Remove the battery cover and remove the SD card and store it in a safe place. Then continue to step 2.
2. Extract the .zip file you downloaded to your computer (e.g. your desktop). Open the folder and install MSXML 4.0 SP3 Parser (msxml.msi).
3. Once that has finished, install LGAndroidDriver_WHQL_ML_Ver1.0_All_Win7.exe which are the drivers so your computer will recognize your phone.
4. Next, open KDZ_FW_UPD.exe
(i) Change 'Type' to '3GQCT' *THIS IS A MUST, THE UPDATE WILL NOT WORK OTHERWISE AND YOU MAY BRICK YOUR PHONE*
(ii) Make sure 'PhoneMode' is set to 'DIAG'
(iii) Browse for the 'V20B_00+Fastboot.kdz' file.
5. Prepare the phone by enabling USB Debugging by going to Settings>Applications>Development>Enable USB Debugging and connect the phone to the computer via USB cable and wait for the drivers to install for the phone.
6. Click 'Launch software update' and do not use your computer until the update is complete. The update will take roughly 10-20 mins to complete.
If you have a problem with this try a different rom, this guide offers two to choose from.
Instructions to install CyanogenMod:
Once the update is complete, your phone will reboot, what you need to do is power off the phone and whilst the phone is off, press and hold the 'Camera' button all the way ANDpower on the phone, make sure you hold the 'Camera' button. The phone will display the LG logo and disappear, then display a blank screen. The phone is now in fastboot mode!
Now you want to download this file: Flashing CyanogenMod.zip and extract it to a folder called 'Android' (without the quotes '') on the C: drive (you'll probably need to make this folder yourself.
1. Now open CMD with administrator privileges (Search for CMD in the start menu and right click on 'cmd' and click 'Run as Administrator' )
2. Connect the phone to your computer via USB cable and wait for the necessary drivers to install.
If when connected with a usb cable the computer says "waiting for device" and nothing else happens try installing the fastboot drivers. You can do this by going to the control panel of your pc, from the Windows start menu, opening the list of devices and where you see the one representing your phone (likely, as was the case with me, it will say android and have a yellow exclamation mark over it). Different versions of Windows do things slightly different but what you need to do is simply update the driver by choosing the icons properties box choosing UPDATE or INSTALL DRIVER and when asked pointing it to the folder where you unzipped the drivers.
3. Then go back to the cmd window and type:
Code:
cd C:\Android
(i) Then type:
Code:
fastboot.exe -w
(ii) Once that's completed, type:
Code:
fastboot.exe erase system
(iii) Once that's completed, type:
Code:
fastboot.exe flash system system.img
(iv) Once that's completed, type:
Code:
fastboot.exe flash boot boot.img
(v) Once that's completed, type:
Code:
fastboot.exe reboot
4. Your phone will now reboot with CyanogenMod 6.1.1 (Android 2.2.1). The first boot might take longer than a normal boot.
If your phone stays at a blank screen you simply forgot to do one of the above steps, in which case simply repeat them. It is likely if that happens that you simply forgot the flash boot image instruction.
5. You can now re-insert your SD card and go to Settings>SD Card and Phone Storage>Mount SD Card
Enjoy!
The instructions for flashing both the firmware with fastboot and flashing CyanogenMod are included in the zip archives called 'Readme'. I'll update the links so that you'll always have the most up to date version of CyanogenMod available for download, note that if you choose to update your phone you will loose all your data including apps etc. so backup before you update
And that, with a few comments added by myself, is the guide.
Once you have set your phone up the way you want power off your phone. Hold the HOME and POWER buttons down while the LG logo appears and you will see a menu appear on screen.
Using the volume down key to navigate the different menu choices, and the camera button to select an option choose the BACKUP OR RESTORE option and from the sub menu that it will give you choose BACKUP.
This will make a backup of your phone AND all your data, if you ever mess up an update or think you have damaged your phone in the future simply holdthe POWER and HOME buttons down and when the menu appears choose the RESTORE option
Perfect.

Either one will be fine. Those are just for temporary Rom because they have fastboot. You wont be keeping them.

little question... how long does it takes to complete the process? my phone is on download mode for like 30 minutes.. kinda nervous here, its stuck at:
3GQCT : wParam = 205, IParam = 0
btw, internet should be on?
What!? You sure u followed the instructions very carefully? Using the KDZ updater tool and correct settings?
yes, followed step by step
What happens if I cancel the process?
Well...which step are you on at the moment?
Step Complete : C Drive Erase
Wo wo wo...so it's done? Finish flashing v2.1 on ur android with fastboot?
dont understand, its done?
Well...what's happening on screen in the updater? Does your phone reboot now? No more safe mode?
If it is rebooting then it's done. Now all you have to do is get into fastboot mode which means holding CAMERA + POWER when turning on your phone.
on the phone is still download mode and the last line on the updater is:
3GQCT : wParam = 205, IParam = 0
Did you uncheck "Mass Storage Only" in the phone before you flashed? That may be ur problem....or try unmounting the SD.
yea, I think mass storage only was off, and sd card isnt in
What about USB debugging mode? That needs to be checked.
Hi,
So I have had a good experience with the Kogan Agora 7" a couple of years ago. I flashed a new ROM and my 6 year old still idolizes it. It's perfect for games and movies while traveling and cost bugger all.
I was considering getting my kids a console unit for games but came across the new Quad core HDMI Dongle. I though to myself there is the ticket, When traveling i could use it as a smart TV (plug and play is King) Or it may be possible to replace or augment my Media-portal HTPC system.
I bought one and on the face of it it appears to do all that I require from an Android device like web surfing, mail checking and video streaming fine, except when it came to installing the Playstation controller.
I needed Root access and it was a bit of a pain to get it done. BUT I found it!
I used RK3188_ROOT for CX-919 FW0715 MOD by Everal. found here.
1. Turn the device on
2. Make sure USB debugging is enabled
3. Connect the device to Win7
4. Start the file "TPSparkyRoot.bat" as admin
Enjoy.
So if anyone decides to purchase one of these to play with, you will be glad to know that it is a Rockchip RK188. Weather you think that hardware is good or not is irrelevant but it is useful to know as I tried many methods to gain root but once I had this bit of info it became easy.
Those infinity Pocket PC's may be the same although I can't be sure.
I managed to pair a sixaxis controller and am working on getting it running in a game. I will post if i have any more issues and or success.

Thanks for posting this info. However I'm not able to get this to work. My PC doesn't recognise the device when it's in "USB Debugging" mode. In the device manager it just appears in "Other Devices" as "KHSTVQCDONA". I've tried updating the software, selecting the "usb_drivers" folder containing drivers provided in the downloading Zip file, and also tried downloading the "Google USB Drivers" directly from Google, but Windows doesn't find the drivers for this device.
If I disable "USB Debugging" the device does connect successfully under "Portable Devices", but clearly that's not much use.
I can't seem to figure it out.
Below are the steps I took in trying to get it to work. I was going to write it as a guide for dummies, but I never got it working...
Download the software from the link above. On the "Share-Online" page click the small-ish button that says "continue for free", and not the bit "DOWNLOAD FILE (regular download)" button in the banner ad (that I feel very silly for clicking several times).
Once the file "RK3188_ROOT for CX-919 FW0715 MOD by Everal.zip" has finished downloading, extract it to a temp location on your PC.
Make sure the Micro-USB port of the device is connected to a power source (either your PC or the provided AC adapter). The port doesn't seem to transfer data.
On the Agora device, go to "Settings", open the "USB" menu, and enable "Connect to PC". Without this the device wasn't recognised by my PC at all.
In "Settings", click on the "Developer options" menu, and tick "USB debugging".
Connect the provided blue Male-Male USB cable to a full-sized USB port on the device, and to a USB port on your PC. At this stage the device connects but is not recognised.
Open the Windows "Device Manager".
In the "Device Manager", expand "Other Devices", then right-click on "KHSTVQCDONA" and click on "Update Driver Software".
Click "Browse my computer for driver software".
Navigate to the "usb_drivers" folder of the software you extracted earlier, select it, and click "OK".
Click "OK". THIS DIDN'T WORK, stating that "Windows was unable to install your KHSTVQCDONA" and "Windows could not find driver software for your device".
[*] Open "Command Prompt", by right-clicking on it and clicking "Run as Administrator".
[*]C:
[*]cd RK3188_ROOT
[*]TPSparkyRoot.bat
At this point I see the following:
*---* VonDroid.com N101 II Root Tool based on work by sunnydavid *---*

I terminate at this point
I've also done the following
Un-ticked "Verify apps over USB"
In "Security", ticked "Unkown sources", and un-ticked "Verify apps"
At this point I'm totally at a loss.
I had already started using the device initially, so I did a factory reset, but this hasn't helped at all.
Can you see anything I'm missing, or point me in the right direction?
Many thanks in advance! :good:
Ok So I know i messed around with many drivers installing and uninstalling before it worked. I Thought it was the last set that came with the Root method but I may be wrong.
Also I cant remember exactly now but I am pretty sure if you activate the connect to computer you bypass the ROM and connect to the SD card and the U SD. So that would not help when accessing the root files.
Try re-installing the drivers after connecting without the box checked in settings or try the ones from super oneclick 2.3.3 or even the pocket pC ones. you may also need to uninstall the device then reconnect to get a clean run at it. Windows likes hanging onto what it thinks is the best driver even when they don't work or are completely wrong.
Also I ran the batch file form within windows not in console, Just right clock to run as administrator.
I have just used it for a couple of weeks in Japan get let the Kids watch Aview (iView) and it worked a treat. Also the latest sixaxis updates made the controller even better than before. I can probably have a tool around with it later this week but I am busy before then so wont be able to help any. It can be done!
PM me if you cant find the drivers mentioned above I can email them to you.
Thanks for the quick response.
Can you just confirm that you were connecting using the blue Male-Male USB cable, and not a USB-Micro-USB cable?
When I connect to the Micro-USB port it doesn't see a device at all. It just seems to provide power.
When I connect with the blue Male-Male USB cable, unless I have "Connect to PC" ticked, it also doesn't see a device.
I don't have a micro-SD card installed, but that doesn't matter right?
I'll try those drivers you suggest. Thanks.
I am quite keen to figure out what is different but I cant access it for a couple of days sorry.
I definitely used a full sized USB to Connect, I may have used another one, and powered it from the Micro USB direct to power supply. If you are connecting it to the PC for power it may cause problems.
I know that you cannot access the recovery menu unless you are powering through the Micro USB only. Another thing I meant to mention in my original post. I may have posted it elsewhere.
SUCCESS! After I got the SuperOneClick software to forcibly install the drivers the device was then recognised and I could root the device.
Thanks. I'll write up the full instructions.
Excellent!! Thanks for writing up the guide.
OK, here is a full step-by-step guide for getting this to work:
Download "SuperOneClick" from Download.com (CNET). I can't post external links right now because I'm a new user, but it will appear if you do a Google search.
Extract SuperOneClick to a temporary location ("C:\temp" for the purpose of this installation).
Download the software from the link in the first post above. On the "Share-Online" page click the small-ish button that says "continue for free", and not the big "DOWNLOAD FILE (regular download)" button in the banner ad (that I feel very silly for clicking several times).
Once the file "RK3188_ROOT for CX-919 FW0715 MOD by Everal.zip" has finished downloading, extract it to a temp location on your PC (for the purpose of these instructions "C:\temp").
Make sure the Micro-USB port of the device is connected to a power source (ideally the provided AC adapter). The port doesn't seem to transfer data so don't connect it to your PC, unless you are using your PC as the power source. Basically as long as it's turned on, then continue.
Open "SuperOneClick"
In SuperOneClick click the "Advanced" tab, then click "Check Drivers".
When prompted to ask if you would like it to forcefully install drivers, click "Yes".
Click the "Install..." option when prompted by "Windows Security".
You should then hear the device connect, and disconnect, and see an message "Driver installed! Please reconnect your device", so click "OK".
Disconnect the blue USB cable from you PC, and then reconnect it. You should hear that the device has connected successfully (and it now appears as "Android Composite ADB Interface" in you "Device Manager" if you care to check.).
Open "Command Prompt", by right-clicking on it and clicking "Run as Administrator". (I found that running the .bat file directly failed because it didn't find the "adb" application)
C:
cd temp\RK3188_ROOT
TPSparkyRoot.bat
Follow the prompts from here. The application should reboot your device several times (if not something is wrong), after which point you press any ket to continue. From here everything was very straight-forward once the .bat file completed the device was then rooted.
Enjoy
I had to do things differently......
Used rocketchip_batch_tool_1.7 for drivers, superoneclick didnt do anything.
I ran the batch from the folder on my desktop.
For EACH device re-boot i had to RE CHECK connect usb on cx919 settings.
I got a few errors about no more storage on my device when it tried to copy some stuff, although i have the super user and i tried sixaxis controller which requires root and it worked. Not sure what the files were.
update:
Hmm and it seems SSL websites dont work now as well as Netflix or the Store.
ill have to try something else!
Update:
did a factory wipe. all seems ok now.

Enjoy

Worked fine since then. All a sudden same prob, no Netflix no store. Wtf?
Just wanted to post an updated root method since i got one of these second hand last week
1. get the universal rockchip drivers, or the latest generic google ones. both worked for me on two different PC's. (including windows 8.1 x64)
2. Enable USB Debug mode in developer options. you know the drill.
3. the kogan device has a "USB" menu in settings, that has a 'connect to PC' setting. turn that on or ADB cuts out shortly after the system boots - turn it off after rooting for it to work normally.
4. connect PC to kogan dongle via the USB port next to the power LED. The other one doesnt work.
5. root with whatever method you want - i used kingo root which rooted it flawlessly first time.
6. have fuuuuun!
3 and 4 stumped me for days til i figured out what was going on. not something i'd ever encountered before, and likely unique to this device and why some people cant figure it out.

hey, thanks for the guide. the link for the firmware doesn't work (anymore?). I did find http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/ however the firmware I downloaded only contains a md5 file and not the zip files shown in your guide.
Do you happen to have a copy lying about? Or do you know how to use the md5 file?

If you are saying that you have a single file with .MD5 extension if the file is of good size from around 100-120mb then you need to flash your device using Odin Multidownloader. All the steps are as same as i have shown but you dont need to select all that stuff i,e PDA, Bootloader etc in odin. Just tick the One Package in Odin Multi downloader and browse for your .MD5 file and click start. Thats It..!
Good Luck..
I've been trying to do this, but it seems the USB connection fails always when in download mode. I have tried multiple drivers, ports, cables, spinning around and tapping a table three times, nothing works, I read a post saying it could be windows 8 so I'm going to try it on a win 7 VM shortly. But otherwise I just can't fix it, device is always unrecognized when in download mode.

I believe it was 6.0 marshmallow. I do know that its no longer working for the newer version. I havent look into it but the idea is to get pass any screen that would allow you to install the apk via. 3rd party you can frp reset with the same apk file. (sometimes requiring you to push different buttons in certain order or speed)

True. I've watched the video a few times, and the goal is just to get to the place where you can interact with the phone and run that file. I want to say I made it most of the way through this method before, when I first started. But I was only beginning. So I didn't know about ROMs, and versions, and such. Now, i realize it wouldn't work because I had 7.0 and the menus and such differ. Anyway, off to try again. Sigh.

i believe the new methods now require to root with odin now. hope that helps. I remember my buddy telling me he had to root and then install another os into it. and root again afterwards with the orginal os.
