Hello,
I want to install the 2.2 rom, but I dont know how, I've searched here, but I couldnt understand much, the link I've tried are dead or in russian (which confuses me a lot).
So I'd really love if someone could make a step by step tutorial to help me out.
Please, include links.
Thanks
And please, if you can, plz help me understand what is the recovery mode, and how to do so...
Thank again

Follow this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=857213
If you can't understand...I'll post another guide.

This is a guide I followed from another forum, and posted elsewhere with some minor additions in case anyone had problems.
The guide is from a forum post at the android forums,it is NOT my work, the added bits are mostly what I have found from browsing here and from asking questions. While I can't be held liable if you mess your phone up having done so myself I thought this could helpa few people and save them searching various threads for answers so hope it helps
The guide
To install this ROM you need to have fastboot enabled on your phone. If you have Android 1.6/2.1 installed from LG, then fastboot is not enabled. I will explain how to enable fastboot on your phone (this involves re-flashing/replacing your currently installed firmware):
I am unable to post links yet so you will have to copy and paste the appropriate link into your browser replacing the ** with tt
KDZ Updater Carphone Warehouse Unlocked.zip can be downloaded at h**p://goo.gl/7aRTc - A link to a zip archive with all the files needed to flash to Android version 2.1 with fastboot (Carphone Warehouse Unlocked)
KDZ Updater Europe Open.zip can be downloaded at h**p://goo.gl/BOcYT - A link to a zip archive with all the files needed to flash toAndroid version 2.1 with fastboot (Europe Open)
Download the version that best applies to you, if you live in the UK, I'd recommend you download the Carphone Warehouse Unlocked version, whereas if you live in Europe, I'd recommend the Europe Open version (simple right? )
I live in the UK and used the open rom from Europe as the Carphone Warehouse rom would not install
Now, how to flash these versions; I'll explain in detail how to flash the ROM's from starting with backing up.
Instructions to install ROM with Fastboot:
1. Before you start, make sure you backup all your data by installing the z4root.1.3.0.apk file onto your phone, then open it and choose 'Permanent Root'. Your phone will root and reboot. Then go to the Market and install 'MyBackup Root', open it and do a backup of your apps and personal data (contacts, sms, call log etc.) Once this is done, go to Settings>SD Card and Phone Storage>Unmount SD Card, a notification in the notification bar should appear saying 'SD Card safe to remove'. Remove the battery cover and remove the SD card and store it in a safe place. Then continue to step 2.
2. Extract the .zip file you downloaded to your computer (e.g. your desktop). Open the folder and install MSXML 4.0 SP3 Parser (msxml.msi).
3. Once that has finished, install LGAndroidDriver_WHQL_ML_Ver1.0_All_Win7.exe which are the drivers so your computer will recognize your phone.
4. Next, open KDZ_FW_UPD.exe
(i) Change 'Type' to '3GQCT' *THIS IS A MUST, THE UPDATE WILL NOT WORK OTHERWISE AND YOU MAY BRICK YOUR PHONE*
(ii) Make sure 'PhoneMode' is set to 'DIAG'
(iii) Browse for the 'V20B_00+Fastboot.kdz' file.
5. Prepare the phone by enabling USB Debugging by going to Settings>Applications>Development>Enable USB Debugging and connect the phone to the computer via USB cable and wait for the drivers to install for the phone.
6. Click 'Launch software update' and do not use your computer until the update is complete. The update will take roughly 10-20 mins to complete.
If you have a problem with this try a different rom, this guide offers two to choose from.
Instructions to install CyanogenMod:
Once the update is complete, your phone will reboot, what you need to do is power off the phone and whilst the phone is off, press and hold the 'Camera' button all the way ANDpower on the phone, make sure you hold the 'Camera' button. The phone will display the LG logo and disappear, then display a blank screen. The phone is now in fastboot mode!
Now you want to download this file: Flashing CyanogenMod.zip and extract it to a folder called 'Android' (without the quotes '') on the C: drive (you'll probably need to make this folder yourself.
1. Now open CMD with administrator privileges (Search for CMD in the start menu and right click on 'cmd' and click 'Run as Administrator' )
2. Connect the phone to your computer via USB cable and wait for the necessary drivers to install.
If when connected with a usb cable the computer says "waiting for device" and nothing else happens try installing the fastboot drivers. You can do this by going to the control panel of your pc, from the Windows start menu, opening the list of devices and where you see the one representing your phone (likely, as was the case with me, it will say android and have a yellow exclamation mark over it). Different versions of Windows do things slightly different but what you need to do is simply update the driver by choosing the icons properties box choosing UPDATE or INSTALL DRIVER and when asked pointing it to the folder where you unzipped the drivers.
3. Then go back to the cmd window and type:
Code:
cd C:\Android
(i) Then type:
Code:
fastboot.exe -w
(ii) Once that's completed, type:
Code:
fastboot.exe erase system
(iii) Once that's completed, type:
Code:
fastboot.exe flash system system.img
(iv) Once that's completed, type:
Code:
fastboot.exe flash boot boot.img
(v) Once that's completed, type:
Code:
fastboot.exe reboot
4. Your phone will now reboot with CyanogenMod 6.1.1 (Android 2.2.1). The first boot might take longer than a normal boot.
If your phone stays at a blank screen you simply forgot to do one of the above steps, in which case simply repeat them. It is likely if that happens that you simply forgot the flash boot image instruction.
5. You can now re-insert your SD card and go to Settings>SD Card and Phone Storage>Mount SD Card
Enjoy!
The instructions for flashing both the firmware with fastboot and flashing CyanogenMod are included in the zip archives called 'Readme'. I'll update the links so that you'll always have the most up to date version of CyanogenMod available for download, note that if you choose to update your phone you will loose all your data including apps etc. so backup before you update
And that, with a few comments added by myself, is the guide.
Once you have set your phone up the way you want power off your phone. Hold the HOME and POWER buttons down while the LG logo appears and you will see a menu appear on screen.
Using the volume down key to navigate the different menu choices, and the camera button to select an option choose the BACKUP OR RESTORE option and from the sub menu that it will give you choose BACKUP.
This will make a backup of your phone AND all your data, if you ever mess up an update or think you have damaged your phone in the future simply holdthe POWER and HOME buttons down and when the menu appears choose the RESTORE option
Click to collapse
You also need fastboot drivers.

Another question, which one should I donwload?
KDZ Updater Carphone Warehouse Unlocked.zip
KDZ Updater Europe Open.zip
My phone is from US, so both would work?

Either one will be fine. Those are just for temporary Rom because they have fastboot. You wont be keeping them.
Sent from my GT540 by MBt

little question... how long does it takes to complete the process? my phone is on download mode for like 30 minutes.. kinda nervous here, its stuck at:
3GQCT : wParam = 205, IParam = 0
btw, internet should be on?

What!? You sure u followed the instructions very carefully? Using the KDZ updater tool and correct settings?

yes, followed step by step
What happens if I cancel the process?

Well...which step are you on at the moment?

Step Complete : C Drive Erase

Wo wo wo...so it's done? Finish flashing v2.1 on ur android with fastboot?

dont understand, its done?

Well...what's happening on screen in the updater? Does your phone reboot now? No more safe mode?
If it is rebooting then it's done. Now all you have to do is get into fastboot mode which means holding CAMERA + POWER when turning on your phone.

on the phone is still download mode and the last line on the updater is:
3GQCT : wParam = 205, IParam = 0

Did you uncheck "Mass Storage Only" in the phone before you flashed? That may be ur problem....or try unmounting the SD.

yea, I think mass storage only was off, and sd card isnt in

What about USB debugging mode? That needs to be checked.

[GUIDE] Gain root access HTC Hero TMobile

I have finally managed to root my phone. after trying for a rather long time, i did it yesterday and am running modaco custom ROM which is superb. I have listed the instructions I followed in case anyone else is having the same issues as i had
(unable to backup via amon RA image - backup failed)
Text in Bold indicates something you need to type
(Instructions taken from various sites - for XP only - Credits to Unlocker & Modaco)
If your current build number is 2.73.405.5 you can skip the Goldcard section
Phone Details:
Model Number
T-Mobile G2 Touch
Firmware Version
1.5
Baseband Version
63.18.55.06FU_6.35.07.08
Kernel Version
2.6.27-0078c992
Build Number
2.73.110.26 CL#69351 release-keys
Software Version
1.0.0.A6288
In order to root the phone, I had to downgrade the build number from 2.73.110.26 to 2.73.405.66.
Setting UP ADB on XP
First things first, we need to download and setup android SDK,
1) sdk can be downloaded from developer.android.com/sdk/
2) Extract the file to c:\AndroidSDK
3) Plug your phone in to the pc via USB cable. Windows should automatically find the drivers and you should get a message in the bottom right corner saying "device is setup and ready to use" (or something similiar).
Any issues here, google is your friend, find the drivers for your device
4) Now that windows can "see" your hero, click on Start, Run, type cmd and hit enter.
5) on this screen we need to check if adb is working so change the directory to where we extracted the sdk folder:
cd\ press enter
cd\ AndroidSDK\tools press enter
adb devices press enter
You should get something similiar to:
List of devices attached
HT9BTL900210 device
6) If you see this number, all is ok so far.
Now that adb is setup and we can communicate with our phone from the pc we need to create a Goldcard
Create Goldcard
( I tried with a 8GB ScanDisk and it worked)
Take a bakup of your sd card data, copy the files to your pc, before creating
a Goldcard as we need to format the card.
1) Ensure SD card is in your phone, click on Menu | Settings | SD Card & Phone Storage | Unmount SD card, wait a few ticks, then click on Format SD Card
2) Press back a few times and go to Settings | Application | Development and put a tick in USB Debugging
3) Connect the phone to the pc, then click on Start | Run | enter cmd and hit enter, we get the same command window as before
4) Now we need to obtain a code so that we can create the gold card. in the command prompt enter the following:
cd\ press enter
cd\ AndroidSDK\tools press enter
adb devices press enter
you should see a serial number displayed
5) Now type the following
adb shell press enter
cat /sys/class/mmc_host/mmc1/mmc1:*/cid press enter
You should get something similiar to this:
045354535230384780705c3088008a10
Make a note of this code.
6) Next go to this website >> http://hexrev.soaa.me/ , enter your code and click on Submit and make a note of the new code
7) Now go to http://revskills.de/pages/goldcard.html, fill in your details and paste the code, click on submit and check your e-mail. The godcard will be e-mailed to you, save this to your desktop.
8) Now we need to download and install a HexEditor so click the following link, download and install
http://download.cnet.com/HxD-Hex-Ed...068.html?part=dl-HxDHexEdi&subj=uo&tag=button
9) On your phone, pull down the notification bar and click to copy files to your computer, Click on Mount
10) Open the HexEditor and click on Extras | Open Disk | Under Physical Disk select Removable disk, uncheck "Open as Read Only" and click OK
11) Click on Extras | Open disk image | select the goldcard.img file (sent to you via email) Click ok when prompted for the disk size (512 Hard Disk/Floppy Disk)
12) You should have 2 tabs, one is your sd card and the other the goldcard. click on the goldcard, click on Edit | Select All, then Edit | Copy.
13) Click on the sdcard (removable disk) tab, highlight from offset 00000000 to 00000170, click on Edit | Paste Write. The highlighted cells should go red.
14) Click on File | Save and close the HexEditor
15) On your phone, pull down the notification bar and select to turn of USB storage. Pull down the notification bar again and click to copy files to your computer, Click on Mount. If XP opens the SD card all has worked ok.
16) On your phone, pull down the notification bar and select to turn of USB storage. Reboot your phone with the goldcard (sdcard) still inside.
Downgrade to an older ROM
1)You should already have HTC Sync installed on your computer, if not head over to http://www.htc.com/www/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=283&cat=3&dl_id=852 | download and install HTC Sync
2) Next we need to down load the ROM, RUU_Hero_HTC_WWE_2.73.405.5_WWE_..exe which can be downloaded from here http://www.megaupload.com/?d=RCQ6V92U
3) Connect your phone to the pc and ensure HTC Sync picks up your phone, any issues here, either reboot your pc or phone until the phone\pc can see each other.
4) Double click the file you downloaded RUU_Hero_HTC_WWE_2.73.405.5_WWE_..exe and follow the instructions. they are very straight forward. It can take up 10 mins to complete.
Hopefully you should now have a phone with the Build Number as 2.73.405.5
If this is the case, continue reading.
Download Custom ROM
Now would be a good time to download the ROM you want to use, I am currently using Cronos which is based on 2.1 and is super quick
http://www.cronosproject.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=16&sid=332f8bccd0147f4ee8eb093920eb428d
1) Once downloaded, rename the file to Update.zip
2) Connect your phone to your pc and pull down the notification bar again and click to copy files to your computer, Click on Mount.
3) Copy the file, Update.zip to the root of your SD card.
4) On your phone, pull down the notification bar and select to turn of USB storage
Gain ROOT access
1) On your phone, click on Menu | Settings | Applications | put a tick in "Unknown Sources"
2) Connect the phone to your pc and on your phone, pull down the notification bar and click to copy files to your computer, Click on Mount
3) Download the following 2 files and save them to your desktop
http://zenthought.org/content/project/flashrec Version 1.1.3
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=WP29CWHK recovery-RA-hero-v1.5.2.img
You can also use recovery-RA-hero-v1.5.3.img but I found version 1.5.2 worked for me.
4) Copy both of these 2 files to the root of your SDcard, should show as Removable disk\media within "My Computer"
5) On your phone, pull down the notification bar and select to turn of USB storage. Disconnect your phone from the pc
6) Go to the market place and download a file manager, I used ASTRO
7) Open ASTRO and select flashrec-1.1.3.apk (the file you copied over), if prompted select package installer. click in Install if it doesnt automatically install the app
8) Open FlashRec (click on open after install) and click on Backup Recovery Image. Should take a few seconds to backup
9) Now click on the empty text box and type the following
/sdcard/recovery-RA-hero-v1.5.2.img then click on Flash Custom Recovery Image . It should take to long doing this, 10 seconds maybe
10) Power of your phone, once shutdown, hold down the Home and Power button together until the phone boots in to recovery mode
11) On the Recovery Screen, select Backup/Restore (using the trackball) and then Nand backup, this should take a minute or so
12) Next click on Wipe and select Wipe data/factory reset
13) Now select Flash zip from sdcard, this can take up to 5-15 mins. Once this is done, it should prompt you to reboot your phone, if not select "Reboot system Now"
14) Done, hopefully if everything when according to plan your phone should boot with Cronos (whichever rom you chose), the first time it boots it can take ages.
Update Radio
Check to ensure the radio version is 63.18.55.06JU_6.35.09.26, If yes skip this section, if not you can download it from the Modaco site
http://android.modaco.com/content/h...oms-radios-in-update-zip-format-for-gsm-hero/
1) Connect the phone to your pc and on your phone, pull down the notification bar and click to copy files to your computer, Click on Mount
2) Remove the update.zip file from the SD card
3) Rename the radio from 63.18.55.06JU_6.35.09.26 to Update.zip
4) On your phone, pull down the notification bar and select to turn of USB storage. Disconnect your phone from the pc
5) Power down your phone, select HOME and POWER to boot in to Recovery mode
6) Select Flash zip from sdcard, this should take roughly 5 mins, reboot the phone.
Thats it your done, If you click on Menu | Settings and nothing shows, reboot the phone again ( I had this rather strange issue)
Setting up SD CARD to work with A2SD
Follow this guide, its very good
http://androidandme.com/2009/08/news/how-to-manually-partition-your-sd-card-for-android-apps2sd/
Hopefully you now have a rooted phone all setup and working. As someone on here said, Road to Freedom
Thanks for this.
I'm still stuck. The goldcard seemed to work twice but when I tried the RUU_Hero_HTC_WWE_2.73.405.5_WWE_..exe it said "waiting for bootloader" and the screen on the Hero had changed to the white screen with 3 skateboarding androids and what looked like a selectable option "?RUU USB", can't quite remember but there was no way of selecting it and no buttons advanced the process.
Don't know if anyone else got this? Any tips on what I'm doing wrong?
did you receive any erros on your pc, i,e the RUU setup should be running andupdating you with whats happening, did that throw an error?
I will do it again tonight but got something along the lines of "waiting for bootloader.....timed out" Will confirm in the next hour, but some other threads said they needed to create a gold card a few times before one worked.
Any advice welcome
On the windows RUU update utility I get
ERROR [171]: USB CONNECTION ERROR
This is despite the device syncing well and being fully recognised by RUU until failing waiting for bootloader....
On the HTC Hero I get a white screen with 3 skateboarding androids on it.
On the white screen at the top I get
HERO CVT SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-1.76.0007 (HERO10000)
MICROP-010f
TOUCH PANEL-SYN0104
RADIO-6.35.07.08
Aug 4 2009, 19:43:30 (not the current time)
RUU USB <---- Highlighted in orange. making me think you could select it, however, no buttons on the device do anything. The Hero stays like this until I pull the battery out but then it boots normally (even after the RUU.exe exits). If I pull the USB cord out, the USB text dissapears and only RUU remains highlighted.
Any ideas? The SD card used is the stock one shipped with the device which others have said works fine. If no one has a better idea, I will try later using my other 8gb card, but this is a pain as I have to back it all up.
I formatted the SD card ie non-gold card version and repeated the RUU and got the same message so I'm assuming the goldcard didn't work. Sigh... not to back up my 16Gb card...
So i got a SD card another member recommended as working as a gold card = no go.
This is getting beyond a joke now. Nobody has information on what the actual
credentials are for a card to be use able? I've spent too much money on this crap
I think I'll just sell this ****.
So I tried my 16Gb card but that didn't work either.
I don't think I'm that unlucky to get two cards which won't work as Goldcards and am very confident I have followed the instructions correctly.
The only thing I can think of is that as my phone was returned from being fixed only two weeks ago, they may have patched the kernal so even Goldcard will not work. Sigh, I might just have to wait for T-mo to pull their finger out with the 2.1 upgrade.
For what it's worth, Kernel version:
2.6.27-0078c992
Build : 2.73.110.26
Software version: 1.0.0.A6288
Kernel Version:
2.6.27-0078c992
[email protected] #821
Build Number:
2.73.110.26 cl#69351
Software Version
1.0.0.A6288
Bought and last updated in December 2009
Anyone with the same build etc that was able to gold card?
Thanks for this info.
Looks like it's the same. No-one with a goldcard in south london wants a little visit from me and my Hero ?!?
Chaps, I tried 3 times and on my fourth attempt I was successful, I used a 8GB Scandisk Card which worked. I gave up twice but eventually got lucky and it worked so I understand your frustration
It maybe worth uninstalling and re-installing your drivers, or you can try this:
USBDeview >> http://download.cnet.com/USBDeview/3000-2094_4-10614190.html, download and install
Whilst the phone is plugged in, open USB Deview, find all the htc drivers and delete them, after deleting them, disconnect your phone and plug it back in, drivers should re-install,
Try again with a different USB port on your machine, let me know how you get on
For the guys having problems with goldcards,....
Once you have made the changes to the SD, saved and closed the HEX editor,... re-open it again to make sure the changes have actually saved.
...... Alternatively,... Check to see if there are any differences in the tutorial from this thread, compared to the one here ---> [Guide] Newbie Guide to Install a Custom Rom [Updated 14/04]
Hope something there helps.
Maybe OS may be an issue,... Mine failed on Win7 64bit but worked 1st time with an XP machine.
Complete success!
Seems it was a problem with Win 7 (32-bit).
Worked first time in Vista with the stock 2gb card already created using Win 7 earlier.
Happily now enjoying a custom 2.1 Rom!
Angry yet again with M$.
So pleased I've moved to Ubuntu as my main OS.
I managed to get my goldcard work first time round, fortunately. I used a SanDisk 2Gb card, but curiously, I realised afterwards I forgot to format it, I still had all the hidden linux files (starting with a .) on it
I think all T-mobile branded hero's use the same firmware initially.
Also, I couldn't get the USB to work on Win7, had to go onto XP.
Finally, a guy at my work had the same problem, not being able to goldcard his Hero, I suggested to him, when he goes into the hex editor, include all off the offsets, like when you get down to 170, highlight all the way down to the right of that line.

I have to agree, modaco 3.2 is fantastic, even when memory is running low its still quick, Paul has done an excellent job, flashed the hero with modaco 3.2 as soon as it was rooted, havent tried anything else yet

[Q] Update questions (2.1) (2.2)

Hi forum - I updated my GT540Go to 2.1-update 1. V20a a few months ago using the kdz method and i think i rooted it, I have the superuser icon but some apps say i still need root access??? and would like to go to 2.2 openswift (newest version with most bugs fixed) with recovery and overclock.
Now when i connect to PC Suite IV it says i have an update available so my first question is what will it update my phone to if i do it?
I have now read/watched everything i can find about flashing to 2.2 but it all still looks too complicated, Is there a proper step by step guide anywhere that i can use with some confidence?
Please help me and others like me who are confused how to use ADB and SDK
Thanks.
Best to wait until OpenSwift is out of beta and is nearly complete then install. Really no point in upgrading now if you don't know how to do it.
I am a newb and managed to flash to 2.2 with a guide I found at the android forums. Would be happy to post it here if it might help.
Love the new rom its faster and aside from camera not saving pics and no screen calibrator it is fine.

Perfect.

[GUIDE] Step by Step ROOT Nexus S via ClockworkMod Recovery image (i9023 and i9020A)

Hi all,
i've recently bought a Nexus S which is a non-US/UK (GT-i9020) version having a SC-LCD screen (GT-i9023).
Which is not, sadly, the only difference...
MOD EDIT: This tutorial also applies to AT&T/Rogers/Telus variants of the Nexus S with SAMOLED screen (i9020A)
This tutorial is based on AllGamer's [GUIDE] Step by Step ROOT Nexus S via ClockworkMod Recovery image (i9020 only).
Part 1 - Drivers
1 - Download Android SDK
2 - Unzip & launch "SDK Manager.exe"
3 - Cancel the first popup & go to "Available packages" > "Third party Add-ons" > "Google Inc."
4 - Select "Google USB Driver package" & click "Install Selected"
5 - Once you're finished go to your SDK installation "extras\google\usb_driver" dir
6 - (MOD EDIT: Ignore this step for i9020A models) Open "android_winusb.inf" and add the following lines to both "[Google.NTx86]" and "[Google.NTamd64]" sections :
;
;Google Nexus S GT-i9023
%SingleAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_18D1&PID_4E20as described here [SOLVED] Google Android USB drivers - Nexus S SCLCD GT-i9023 not recognized
7 - Turn Off your SNS
8 - Make sure the SNS is connected to the PC via the USB cable
9 - Boot the SNS into the Bootloader Interface, by holding Volume UP & Power button
It reads LOCK STATE - LOCKED
Open Device Manager (or run devmgmt.msc) make sure you don't see this problem (windows failed to identify the SNS and install the correct drivers)
10 - Do a right click and select Update Driver Software
11 - Select Brose my computer for driver software
12 - Point it to your Android SDK installation "extras\google\usb_driver" dir
13 - Make sure to CLICK "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
14 - Then from the list 3 choices select Android Bootloader Interface
15 - If it's installed properly it should show up like this (reboot is not required)
NOTE: if you encounter problems like question marks, unknown drivers, or exclamation marks eve after you have installed the drivers, download and try the USBDeview 32/64 to remove and uninstall all the junk USB devices from your computer/registry
Part 2 - Unlock
1 - Open a command prompt go to run & type "CMD" & hit enter
2 - Switch to the directory where you unzipped the Android SDK & go to "tools"
3 - Type "fastboot oem unlock" & hit enter
Then you will get thisfastboot oem unlock
...Selecting YES will wipe EVERYTHING from the SNS, so make sure you have backed up everything you needed to safe before you continue.
4 - Use the Volume up/down keys to select and Power key to apply
you should see something like this after it's done... OKAY [435.433s]
finished. total time: 435.433sNow back on this screen you should read
LOCK STATE - UNLOCKED
Part 3 - Recovery
1 - Download the ClockworkMod recovery image (for i9020A models, use this i9023 recovery image too!) 3024v3-i9023.img from [MOD][RECOVERY]Clockwork 3.0.2.4 New wipe & confirm menus!! i9023 & i9020 versions
2 - Save it to the Android SDK "tools" dir
3 - Open a command prompt go to run & type "CMD" & hit enter
4 - Switch to the directory where you unzipped the Android SDK & go to "tools"
5 - Then type "fastboot flash recovery 3024v3-i9023.img" & hit enter
You should get something like this, if not your image is corrupted, download it again
sending 'recovery' (3980 KB)... OKAY [ 0.621s]
writing 'recovery'... OKAY [ 0.511s]
finished. total time: 1.132s6 - Then back on the SNS select Power Off (Reboot also works)
Part 4 - Root
1 - Power ON the SNS
2 - Download su-2.3.6.1-ef-signed.zip from [APP] Superuser 2.3.6.1 - Now on the Market [2010-09-05]
3 - Save it to the Android SDK "platform-tools" dir
4 - Open a command prompt go to run & type "CMD" & hit enter
5 - Switch to the directory where you unzipped the Android SDK & go to "platform-tools"
6 - Type "adb push su-2.3.6.1-ef-signed.zip /sdcard/su-2.3.6.1-ef-signed.zip" & hit enter
7 - Boot the SNS into the Bootloader Interface, by holding Volume UP & Power button

Install from sdcard complete15 - select go back
16 - select reboot
You're now free to install the ROM you want.
Have fun, take care !

I was heading through this toturial and many others present in the SNS forum. There seems to be some confusion regarding rooting && flash custom roms.
Being rooted does not imply that we can flash new roms. For that we need custom recovery. In several phones, we could only had a custom recovery if the phone was rooted. In SNS, we just need an unlocked bootloader and a compatible recovery. No root is needed IMHO.
Also, in this guide, as in several others, there isn't said anywhere that the custom recovery will be reverted by the system as soon it finishes booting the stock rom. I think it should be clear that we need to remove/rename the script that does that.
Still... Thanks.
Brilliant. Thanks!
this is a very nice, but i'll suggest including the modifications instructions in this topic as well, instead of just linking it to the other topic

This tutorial is based on AllGamer's one concerning the GT-i9020.
Im very new to Android customisation, i've just followed some toturials i've found trying to make them works, so it may be inconsistent.
As far as i know, i got some problem using the RomManager application that was asking for superuser rights in order to install new rom. This application placed a superuser-xxx-signed.zip at the root of the sdcard, but install on my SNS SCLCD never worked.
Consider using the manual way, not the RomManager application, will be more straiforward.
May be all these steps are not mandatory, but in the end you'll be able to be able to nistall new rom.
Consider it as a global package for customisation.

Never noticed that. ClockworkMod recovery has ever stayed in place, even after rebooting the stock rom many times.

By the way AllGamer, i apologize for the non-agreed use of your tutorial, i was all in the thing at that time, just thinking about to end up with my cyanogen rom.
It works now, thanks to you. MIUI this evening
hi
i also have the 9023 and tried your guide. but im am stuck at #14 because it dont find the android bootloader interface entry, there are just three adb interface driver in this list. i also cleared the driver registry with usbdeview before.
adb driver is installed and i tried to unlock the bootloader but fastboot dont recognice the phone.
and i tried it on 2 different pcs, one with win xp and one with win7, same problem on both systems
ugrubni
When I unlock my bootloader, I've downloaded the "Google USB Driver package" and the "Galaxy Tab by Samsung Electronics".
I haven't edited any .inf file. Those were the instructions I followed from this article.
ok, finally i have bootloader interface installed with edited .inf installed on win7.
i tried to unlock with fastboot but it just does nothing. my nexus says
usb control init
usb control init end
standard_set_configuration
anyone an idea?
ugrubni
Before I root my Nexus S, i got some questions to ask.
Can I "unroot" my nexus s to stock if I do this?
What kind of roms are there available other than CM7 mod?
Hi all,
Followed advice above, had to reinstall SDK as did not have an adpfile. SDK all fine now, but am stuck on fastboot not recognising the phone - stays on waiting for device, did a search on xda but brought up other phones and nothing that could helped me...
updated: adb devices works fine, it sees the phone with adb, but just not with fastboot?
another update:
tried usbdeview to uninstall drivers
re-installed them again, no such luck.. annoyingly adb sees the nexus but fastboot does not..
would appreciate any more ideas?
i finally got it work
fastboot also dont recognized my phone
what i did is:
go to android-sdk/platform-tools folder and copy adbwinapi.dll and adbwinusbapi.dll to /tools folder where fastboot also is located and it worked.
cheerz, ugrubni

Ok lets try to solve it.
First things first, uninstall everything related to sdk and do the part 1 from scratch. Then go to androidsdk/tools folder and check if you have a file named "fastboot".If yes (normally yes because after updating android sdk manager the "fastboot" file must be there. Also make sure you downloaded the google usb driver) then go to androidsdk/platform-tools and find the two files AdbWinApi.dll and AdbWinUsbApi.dll .Copy-paste them to androidsdk/tools .Restart your pc and try the second part.
Hope to help

[GUIDE] Rooting HTC Wildfire (Froyo)

THIS GUIDE WILL HELP YOU ROOT ANY WILDFIRE WITH HBOOT VERSION 1.01.0001/1.01.0002
This guide is in fact a combination of two other guides:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1145035
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1130044
I take no responsibility for whatever may happen to your phone.
To root, you first need to gain S-OFF, this part is taken from the first thread.
So here we go,
- Before doing anything, make sure you have the latest HTC SYNC on your PC (get it from here).
- Connect your phone to PC and sync all your data (contacts, media, docs...etc.)
- Disconnect your phone, then uninstall HTC SYNC, but you must leave the drivers on your PC.
(i.e. Uninstall the htc sync program only, not the drivers)
S-OFFing the Device
Downgrade to HTC Froyo WWE for AlphaRevX "now named: Revolutionary" (HBOOT 1.01.0001)
It has been confirmed that AlphaRevX "Revolutionary" tool is not S-OFFing wildfire (buzz) 2.2.1, with HBOOT 1.01.0002!
Therefore, downgrading the HBOOT to 1.01.0001 is must for the meantime, to get an efficient S-OFF.
Lots of people seem to be having issues when trying to downgrade their Wildfire from a carrier-branded version (HBOOT 1.01.0002) to unbranded WWE (HBOOT 1.01.0001).
So, here’s a small package to help you do this.
If you have HBOOT 1.01.0001, you can skip to the step entitled Revolutionary
Extract this package somewhere you can find it, like your “Desktop” for example.
Step 1: run step1.bat from the package. This will downgrade your MISC partition to allow for the RUU downgrade.
At the end, GoldCardTool will start up, to allow you to create a goldcard which you will need before starting Step 2.
How to deal with Gold-Card Tool:
1. Switch off your phone, remove your microSD card.
2. Insert the microSD card into your card reader, connect it to your computer and format the card to FAT32 file system.
3. Insert the card into your HTC Wildfire and power it on.
4. Make sure USB Debugging is enabled on your phone in Menu > Settings > Applications > Development.
5. Connect the phone to your computer via USB and set the mode to charge only.
6. Launch Gold-Card Tool on your computer and click ‘GetCID’.
7. Copy the CID code from the text box and click the link shown below that text box to open it in your browser window.
8. In the browser window, enter all the details required and submit that form.
9. You should now get an email from PSAS. Open it and download the ‘GoldCard.img’ attachment.
10. Now set your phone’s USB mode to Mass Storage.
11. In Gold-Card Tool, click ‘Refresh’.
12. Select your mounted SD card from the drop-down menu saying “HTC MMC:”
13. Click ‘Load Goldcard.img’ and select the file downloaded in Step 11.
14. Click ‘Patch MMC’ and your Gold Card will be created. You may exit Gold Card Tool once done.
After you've made the goldcard, and patched it, continue with step 2.
• Step 2: run step2.bat from the package. This will downgrade your ROM version to HTC WWE Froyo for Wildfire (unbranded).
If you get a Customer ID error while doing this, your goldcard is not working!
Create a new goldcard and re-run step2.
Revolutionary
* Steps:
1st You need to get to: http://revolutionary.io/ to download the tool, and to get your “beta key” which you’ll get in a pop-up window in the same download page after you click the download link for (windows version).
The “beta key” is a must; the tool won’t work without it!
You’ll be asked to provide your phone “serial no.”, typically it should be something like HTXXETDXXXXX, and you can get it from:
Settings --> about phone --> phone identity.
Now, do the following:
1. Run latest version of HTC Sync on your PC and connect phone in HTC Sync mode and sync all your files. Remove HTC Sync and not the drivers.
2. Reboot phone.
3. Settings->Applications->Development->Check “USB Debugging”.
4. Run Revolutionary and connect phone to PC in “Charge Only mode”.
5. Revolutionary should recognize your phone and show your Device Serial number.
7. Type out the “key” in the Revolutionary tool software, keeping in mind the upper and lower case letters and press enter (you can copy / paste the key).
8. Revolutionary should start doing its job and you’ll get S-OFF in less than 90 seconds.
9. If it takes longer, just wait for the 15 minutes mark, if nothing, then reboot phone and retry.
(Some members got S-OFF after multiple tries)
Now, to get to actually rooting the phone by installing clockworkmod and subsequently, the superuser app.
1. Ensure that your SD Card is FAT32 then copy this to the root of your SD card: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=548407&d=1300751790
2. Go into HBOOT(switch off phone and switch on while holding down the volume down button) and click yes when it asks you to update
3. Remove the img file from your sd card and add this file: http://bit.ly/su2361ef
4. Go into HBOOT and click Recovery!
5. Click install zip from sdcard (or some thing like that) (Protip: Navigate in the recovery with the trackpad, not the power button!)
6. Click choose zip from sdcard
7. Locate your zip and let it update
8. Boot into your now rooted phone and install ROM Manager from the market.
9. Open ROM manager and Install Clockword Mod recovery (or sth like that) twice in a row (this is important to ensure proper installation)
YOU ARE NOW ROOT!!!!
Optional: Use ROM manager to install CyanogenMod or another ROM of your choosing

Firstly, were you even on HBOOT version 1.01.0002?
If you were, check if the downgrade was successful after running step2.bat
If it wasn't make sure HTC Sync has been uninstalled but the drivers have not
If the drivers are in place, I suggest looking for a solution at the orginal guide found at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1145035
nope i have 1.01.0002 and step 1 does its stuff no problem then goldcard automatically starts up no problem with that and i patched it and everything then step2.bat comes up and starts downgrade but like its doing a bit and just closes instantly back to hboot still showing s-on 1.01.0002????
i h ave windows 7 ultimate 64 bit../??? any help?

The first instruction tells you to switch off the phone before removing the SD card.
Try it again.
If it doesnt work, run everything as administrator, else, go to the orginal thread and post your problems there

Shouldn't.... but I did it on a XP 32 bit so maybe you could try running in compatibility mode...
i tried that but no luck..... i also tried on my windows vista 32bit with no luck
Finally got this process to work for me after numerous unsuccessful attempt. Main problem was I was using Win7. Switched to Win 3.1 and things worked.
Also in the guide the step
7. Copy the CID code from the text box
Need to me clarified to ... "Copy the reversed CID code from the text box "
After that all good and am now back on Hboot 1.01.0001.
Thanks for the guide.
Like a charm. Thanks.
Thanks for the information

make sure that you're using the proper controls...:
After boot you select items by vol keys and choose by hitting the power button.

At first boot it might take a while to boot up. If it remains stuck on the logo I'd suggest to reinstall but do a "full wipe/factory reset" from inside ClockworkMod (even better format system and data before).
BTW Which ROM are you trying to install?
Thank u very much for ur help....I appreciate u people very much....
Bt actually that rom was not good that's y I was facing that issue

IF YOU HAVE PROBLEMS WITH CMD and are on Windows 7 (or similar), make sure you start CMD in admin mode.
Otherwise it doesn't work.
1- Make sure the files are stored in a folder in C:\ (or somewhere very short unless you know command line). For example: C:\goldcard
Copy the files from the folder they came in and throw them in there.
2- Go to start and write CMD. Now DO NOT single click the program or type enter. Instead do CONTROL+SHIFT+ENTER
This opens it in Admin mode. (some pop up confirmation may appear).
3- Navigate to the folder by writing "cd C:\goldcard". (Without the quotation marks of course. Use the name of the folder you created in step number one.)
4- write step1.bat
That should do it. The same applies to step2.

2) BACKUP DATA AND INSTALL DRIVERS
Disable Antivirus.
Install drivers from my pack:
right click on HTCDriver.exe > click on Run as administrator and continue the setup.
Connect HTC One (while phone on) to PC, let drivers install.
In Windows explorer, HTC One should be available.
### If not make sure phone connection is in File transfer mode (see Android notifications).
### Phone is still not visible in Windows Explorer ? See fix at end of tutorial.
Collect all personal photos, videos, etc ... and backup these on PC.
Use an app like Backupyourmobile/SMS Backup & Resotre to backup texts, contacts, etc.
Check that backup is located on microSD card.
Then copy the backup on your PC.
Disconnect phone.
Check that you have the latest official updates.
### If your phone is Simlocked/carrier locked/Network locked, don't go further.
Visit official website of your network carrier (or call their support) to retrieve your desimlock code.
Ask them for details on how to remove simlock.
How do I know my phone is simlocked ? When you insert a SIM card from another operator, network is inaccessible.
Only a stock ROM can remove simlock.
To go back from custom ROM to stock, see dedicated section at the end of tutorial.
3) UNLOCK BOOTLOADER
In Android, go to Settings > About > Software information > More.
Tap 7 times on Build number. It unlocks Developer options.
Go back to the About menu, you can see the new Developer options menu.
Tap on it, accept the warning.
Toggle on the USB debugging option.
Connect phone, a message appears on phone : Allow USB debugging?
check Always allow and confirm by tapping on OK.
Now, open a Windows command on my "flash" folder (hold Shift + right click on folder -> Open a windows command here).
### Then navigate to my flash folder (if it is on desktop) with this command :
Code:
cd /d C:\djibe\flash
Enter command :
Code:
adb devices
, confirm by pressing Enter.
Command returns :
Code:
List of devices attached

### If no device is found, uninstall and reinstall properly the drivers while antivirus is off. Or see fix at the end of this tuto.
### Or start fresh on another PC.
Now type :
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
Phone restarts in Fastboot mode. Wait till phone screen is blank in fastboot mode.
Type:
Code:
fastboot devices
Command returns :
Code:

Command returns :
Code:
finished. total time: x.xxxxs
Now on phone, press Volume- to highlight HBOOT, confirm with Power button.
You are back to the booloader screen (UNLOCKED is written on top line), press Volume- to navigate to RECOVERY, and confirm with Power button.
Phone reboots in TWRP recovery.
5) BACKUP STOCK SYSTEM
In TWRP, check Never show this screen and Swipe to Allow Modifications.
You land on TWRP Home screen.
Always make a backup of your stock system. We never know when a weird bug will decapitate the system.
Go to Backup menu, select all partitions and Backup to microSD card.
Backup the generated TWRP folder content from your microSD card to PC.
6) WIPE PARTITIONS
Back to Home menu, go to Wipe > Advanced wipe.
Select Dalvik / ART Cache, Cache, System, Data, Internal Storage then Swipe to Wipe, go back to Wipe menu.

then Add more Zips -> mindthegapps*.zip,
then Swipe to confirm Flash.
Wait for operation to end (can be long).
When completed successfully, tap on Reboot.
Tap on Do not install when TWRP asks for the app install.
Wait during long first boot.
Setup Android.
8) You can use Backupyourmobile to restore data,
use GPS Status & Toolbox app to enhance GPS fix.
That's it.

A) Fastboot devices doesn't show any device connected
Install HTC USB drivers
Reboot PC
Open Windows Device Manager (Windows + R shortcut on keyboard > devmgmt.msc > hit Enter)
Search for phone at Other devices submenu > Device is named Android 1.0 or My_HTC
### If it is My_HTC > select it > right click > Uninstall. Disconnect phone. Reconnect phone. Now recognised as Android 1.0.
Select device Android 1.0 > right click > Update Driver
Search locally for driver > Show a list
Select ASUS Android Device.
Manufacturer: select Google, Inc. and set driver to Android Bootloader Interface
Confirm install.
B) Go back to stock from a custom ROM with a HTC One M8
- Either restore your TWRP backup with TWRP recovery
- Or restore a community TWRP backup with TWRP recovery (https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/tutorial-how-to-stock-stock-twrp-t3086860 see posts 2 & 3)
### With S-ON and keep device Unlocked
To find suitable backup for device, boot phone in Bootloader mode (Power + Volume-)
Look at your hboot version (hboot 3.19.0000 is most frequent)
Launch a fastboot command:
Code:
fastboot getvar all
Make sure IMEI is a valid number.
Look at your CID and MID values. Try to find exact same TWRP backups for your phone.
### Flash only exact model versions.
Then wipe all partitions and restore the correct TWRP backup an angel made for you.
- If TWRP restore fails, start with these posts :
You will need a Rom Update Utility (RUU) for your exact model version.
This is compatible with S-ON, will need to relock your Bootloader (save your Unlock_code.bin +++) and need original recovery

https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/general/guide-restore-european-htc-one-m8-to-t3072235
C) No IMEI visible and no cellphone network detected with HTC One M8
Composing *#06# shows an empty IMEI dialog window.
or Settings > About phone > IMEI. IMEI: Unknown, IMEI SV: Unknown
Refer to B) tutorial to get back to stock.
Tuto updated for latest TWRP recovery
Please remove the 15 second adb. The OP of adb 15 second states in his post that it's outdated and should not be used.

Hi, I updated pack with latest Magisk root version and checked download links.
For Windows 10 users, use HTC drivers version v4.17.0.001 - Download them from here - Zippyshare.com - HTC Mobile Driver v4.17.0.001.exe
Everything else works just fine. @djibe89 thank you.

Hi,
I'm at the stage of trying to unlock the bootloader. The phone restarts in fastboot mode but when i type in fastboot devices nothing happens.
and then if i skip that and type get_identifier_token. the return is waiting for any devices. and nothing happens.
What have I missed?
Thanks
i've since been able to get past this stage. I used htc driver 4.17. I'm now stuck on the token. cmd prompt keeps saying cannot load the file no such file or directory. but i'm so sure i have the file in the right folder

Hi, when
Code:
fastboot devices
doesn't return anything, it means there is an USB driver problem.
You'll have to try to fix from Windows Device Manager.
