When that happens, release both buttons and immediately press them and hold. That's what my Tab has begun to do.
Hold the power and volume. Once you see the icons flash on the screen release and quickly hold them down again. You should then be presented with the recovery and downloading icons again.

i will give it a go.. i have held down both buttons and cycled throught like three times.. i will try with the release and re-press..
follow up.. it worked thank you

I was starting to think I was getting slow in my old age. Thank you so much. The release and hold again method worked great.

It's good!

Behold 2

I was wondering if anyone is working on a way to fully root the Behold 2. I tried the temporary root tutorial but seeing how fastboot cannot be accessed I was curious if there has been progress made or is it totally unrootable
Eric
Yeah i'm working on it without a behold 2 at the monent
I have 2 or 3 ideas which i'm sure will work. I'll have more when i finally get rid of my galaxy and get a behold 2
I will keep my fingers crossed on you getting a Behold 2. I was going to take my Behold 2 back to T-Mobile and go back to the MyTouch 3G but I cant see getting rid of a device when there is soooo much potential for it. Plus having the AMOLED screen and the 5MP camera helps too.
Eric
don't forget 320mb ram!! even more than any other HTC phone right now.
The Behold II is nice, I have one, anything I can do to help let me know, I am very eager to root this thing and get rid of touch wiz.
u can install open home which should do it for now.
Thats already done, but there is still the taint of touchwiz.. wonderful phone, horrible UI.
Yeah I had Open Home on it as well but earlier today I purchased GDE from the market and am really digging this home replacement.
Eric
Found this by accident, cant figure out how to do it again. was trying to get into recovery mode.
Awesome. So it can be accessed somehow. that is VERY good news
Eric
Interesting!
You can flash the recovery through Odin too, but its restored on the next boot.
Fastboot mode
Ok so I have been able to reproduce it now, this is how I am getting into fastboot, have your usb cable plugged into your computer then plug it into the phone, very quickly press vol down + send + power. thats it, the part i was missing was the usb cable timing, it appears to be required, this is of course from a powered off state.
GREAT I just tried this and it WORKS yessssss.... someone wanna try rc29
I keep trying to get this, and all it does is bring me to recovery whether I hold or briefly press volume down, send, and power.... any suggestions?
It's powered off, plug in usb cable, quickly press buttons, and I get recovery... no fastboot for me
EDIT:GOT IT!!!!! Seems after trying in order volume down, send, power I wasn't able to get it, however, I just tried, send, volume down, power in that order and it worked!
no no no .,.,..
power off wait 5 sec's
plug usb in and immediately press volume down, send, and power
I think the reboot issue is caused by a scan in an init script or something like that..
To solve this issue I would have to look deeper into it, a quicker way would be to find someone who knows java.
He could write an app which starts itself on boot_completed and executes the root command.
I was looking at exactly that Getting there...
Getting there.
hehe, cant wait.
man i sure hope someone figure out how soon, i love this phone
This guy found a work around for the samsung moment ,,, which suffers the same reboot issue...

Cannot get into download mode after official ICS update

First off, I hope I posted this in the right forum. If not, then I offer my apologies.
Secondly, my problem is pretty much described in the title to this thread. I was going to wait until after the official ICS update before rooting my tab (sounds a bit silly, I know). Now, I have the official update installed and I was trying to follow directions to root the tab - all of which want the tab to be in download mode. The problem is that when I power down the tab and then hold the volume down + power button, I get the white "Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1" startup screen. If I continue to hold down the two buttons, then the tab simply reboots, never getting past the startup screen I just described (it will continue to reboot every few seconds for as long as I hold the two buttons down). If I release the two buttons right after that startup screen (as I've seen a few tutorials recommend), then the tab boots up normally.
Any thoughts on either an alternate method to get the tab into download mode, or on what I can do to correct this so I can get into download mode???
I will throw you a bone here friend...my policy is, everybody gets one. lol!
In reading this, I am scared for you if you are thinking about doing any flashing this early.
You are not following the procedure to get into download mode properly. Hold Power and Vol Down ONLY until you see the Galaxy Tab logo. Then release the Power button while continuing to hold Volume down until you see the two icons for recovery and download mode.
I very adamantly suggest you spend at least a week reading the basic How To's on this site or you risk wrecking your device. Not trying to be rude or condesending but your post really does expose your lack of research good luck!
I've flashed an HTC Hero, 2 Evo 4G's, 3 Samsung Epics and a Moment, so I'm not exactly new to flashing/rooting/rom-ing. This is, however, the first tablet I've tried to flash.
I appreciate you boning me, djmatt604 ( ). That was exactly what I needed and I am now in download mode. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Hold on the power button just until the samsung screens appear, if you hold the power button for 10s it will force shutdown your device.

Haha! Just paying it forward bud I got much of the same when I got started! Your account details definitely aren't indicative of a seasoned flasher lol...Glad you're in good shape!
Actualy you dont have to hold powerbutton the whole time.
Just turn off. Press power (not holding) and you can directly after that press and hold vol down till the download/recover chooser appears.

That's because I can usually figure things out with the immense help of google and the myriad of forums available. For some reason, I just didn't grasp that you had to hold the volume down button and release the power button. I'm rooted and happy now.
Thanks to all that replied, I appreciate you all!!!!
Right on bro, enjoy your tab!

How to turn off phone without screen

So, my wife sadly dropped my new Moto X Pure before I ever even got to see it, and shattered the screen. Display comes on fine but touchscreen is nonresponsive.
Other than just waiting for the battery to die, is there a way to turn the phone off while awaiting my new screen from China?
Nothing else you can really do .. Just wait a few days & let it die ..
On the 3rd or 4th day if you want, you can charge it while it's turned off, while your waiting!
Hold power button....

If I hold it down long enough it eventually reboots, but doesn't actually shut down. If I get it to reboot, can I get from there into download or recovery mode, and can I get from there to shut down without using the touchscreen?
adb shell halt?
I guess I will need to experiment to see if I can get to download mode without starting from "shut down", but from the middle of a reboot.

Hold Power + Vol Down. for a long time. It'll boot to bootloader. There is a "Power Off" option you can scroll to with vol keys.
Sure she wasn't mad because you bought a new phone and slammed it down on purpose?

If so she put on a pretty good act because she was very very apologetic even though I told her it was no big deal. In fact she just saw your post and was a little insulted.

S7 edge bootloader exception?

Dug this old phone out of a drawer to see if I could try to fix it, I had abandoned it a while ago since I just couldn't figure it out. I'm getting a bootloader exception when I try to turn on the phone [RST_STAT = 0x10000000]. No Samsung logo. I can't boot into recovery or download mode at all. It's an exynos model 935W8. I'm going to try to make a USB jig, but if anyone else has any ideas as to why this is happening please tell me. Thanks in advance!

Being on that screen, press the home button quickly 3 times and wait 2 seconds, do it (it worked for me the third time) until the mobile restarts itself and you will see an android icon in the center of the screen , then you can manually restart in download mode. It worked for me in G935F. If it helps, let me know. Luck. PS: I'm sorry for my bad English.

Sorry, but could you be a little more clear? Wait 2 seconds and do what?
For anyone searching and getting frustrated:
I botched some flashing and got the bootloader exception 0x100000 and 0x200000 (with some amount of zeroes, don't remember). I long pressed the home button when it showed the exception and there appeared an android icon saying forced uploading something something. After that I got the phone back in download mode by holding volume down, home, and power. I immediately flashed a combination file (search, but make sure you get the right one for your phone) and it booted back into the engineering ROM. Your phone is not definitely unsaveable! Keep trying new things.
Now I have to figure out how to remove the FRP-lock, but that's for another thread...

My phone Is Bricked Galaxy s8

I think thats what someone on another forum called it, they said to head over here beacause you guys know alot more. My Phone won't get past the "Samsung Galaxy S8 - Powered by Android screen"
I've tried the usual. Down and power key, Up Bixby and power. They either do nothing or keep bringing me back to that screen. I also didnt have Samsung Switch installed to try that way either.
If anyone has any idea I'd really appreciate it and hopefull ive posted in the right section of the forum.
Could you try pressing volume down+power button for aprox. 7 seconds (till the screen goes black), the phone should reboot now. (This next step can be kinda tricky, but you can just try over and over until you do it.) While the screen is still black, press either volume down+bixby+power button or volume up+bixby+power button. This should either boot you into recovery or download mode. Let us know if you can make it to this point
At work ATM, but yeah I will give this a go later when I get back, thanks for the quick reply!
