Espresso ROM Finally Coming To The Fascinate - Fascinate General

I've made Espresso ROM For The Droid X. And Will Now Finally Get It To The Fascinate. My Plan Was To Get It To All The Galaxy S Varients, Nexus One, Samsung Nexus S, Samsung Droid Charge, HTC My Touch 4G, HTC Droid Incredible, Wildfire, HTC Hero, Original HTC Desire, HTC G2 (Desire Z) And Aria.
When Will Espresso ROM Be Released?
Later This Week.

His point is that JTs work on the fascinate is the reason all of these other mtd based roms are being ported to our device now.

Umm..so far all the Gingerbread roms that are out are still having some issues...low in- call volume, no hardware acceleration(videos), no flashlight...etc...and aren't quite fully functional as Froyo is just yet..which is perfectly understandable...
I was just wondering if your up coming rom will still have those issues....or if you are going to blow our minds with a fully functional Gingerbread rom for the Fasciante...

Completely understand your frustration. Unfortunately, if the devs don't have a full, stable source drop to work with, we really can't hold the current crop of common /generally recognized GB issues against them. Heck, they're probably more frustrated about it than the rest of us
OP, I look forward to the upcoming release and maturation of your project!

Another option would be terrific, but good luck with the SD card!

dont feel like its personal if you are met with flak about "new and upcoming" roms here. you can thank Tonu for that.
but good luck either way man!

My point is that no legit devs post coming soon ****...they work on something then release it...hype is just lame and time after time these threads end in disappointment or the rom just doesn't offer anything worth a hype thread

yes on our *website* we have a coming soon tab..we dont make those posts on xda

the work would stand on its own without hype...but i looked at his post history and there are nothing but coming soon threads for various phones
*if* one is going to do this type of thread, at least list what the rom is comprised of (aosp, tw, other) what differentiates it from other existing roms (besides a theme, there are enough throms out there) and why it needs to be hyped up
either way ill eject myself from the thread now

I do know one of my roms will have 2.4 Ice Cream when google releases the SDK. But most are AOSP coupled with Touchwiz. They will also come with my version of The JIT Compiler. They will also come with my version of build.prop tweaks. And more.

I think there may be a way to get FROYO/Gingerbread on Fascinate

Ok I was thinking to myself & reading through all the forums & thinking the only thing stopping us from rocking out froyo/Gingerbread action on are samsung Fascinate's is the kernel issue right ?
off the beaten track but need to read to understand the train of thought:
Well being a former 2 week droid X owner & me being the modder I am I rooted it & as many of you Know the droid X has a locked bootloader but that has not stopped a well known android developer by the name of Jrummy to Develop a app to Overclcok the Droid X even with the locked bootloader but still the system is reading that the phone is still running a 1ghz speeds
Main Idea :
Well I was thinking why cant a more experienced dev than myself as I just started out as a developer a more experienced dev develop a app along the same lines to trick are fascinates into running Froyo/Gingerbread roms but still using the kernel we currently are using I am guessing the kernels might need to be tweaked but I think this is possible I believe if a more experienced dev contacted Jrummy he would give the source code to them to develope off of I am not sure but pretty sure he has it @ GITHUB

Actually he is half right. Punk.kaos currently has froyo and ginger running on the eris? He also apparently had froyo booting on the fascinate as well. And there is no source for the eris for either? Any clarification on this would prove to be very educational for all....

It's a nice thought, and one day we might see it. One thing is YES GB as well as FROYO have been seen booting on the Galaxy S phones but they have been GSM based phones not Verizon CDMA phones which have a totally different system writes.
Best bet would be to check on the IRC channels and see whats going on there, and see how things progress, great idea but not anytime in the near future, welcome to Samsung.
Cheers.

I came from the eris to the fascinate, and yeah there are now a ton of eris roms running froyo on the 2.6.29 kernel. And as I understand it, kaos is also working on gingerbread for the eris as well, and has a gb rom running (tho it still has problems). But to get to the point where the eris is at now, as far as it being able to run froyo perfectly with no bugs or glitches, it took a pretty long damn time. Its not nearly as simple as fooling the system into thinking that we're running a 2.6.32 or .35 kernel, unfortunately. There were tons of things that didnt work at first. In fact, almost nothing worked at first. But kaos and the other devs kept at it, and with each new release, they'd fix 1 or more of those things broken. Of course, they had help from a bunch of hero devs that were simultaneously working on getting froyo to work on the cdma hero.
My point is, however, that our devs are already working on this, but right now there are still some huge issues that make the roms/kernels far from ready for public release. But there is no reason to fear, as the devs will continue to do their thing, and even if samsung puts off releasing froyo for another year, I promise you that before too long the devs will have found a way to give us what we want.. namely, froyo and gb!

Are you seriously complaining that there aren't enough roms after 2 weeks (never mind it being christmas and stuff)?? Wow, your sense of entitlement is quite amazing! Never mind bothering to recognize all the good stuff that has come out already (cyanogen alpha, modaco r2, voodoo kernel, 2.3.1 update ports, market fixes, rooting scripts etc)
Think about it, everyone is dying to get the newest google software update (kinda the reason most of us got this phone) so it's quite understandable everyone is working on gingerbread ports. Why on earth would you expect the same enthusiasm for downgrading by porting sense or touch wiz to a phone already running android 2.3? Not saying it won't happen but it's understandably not the first thing on everyone's priority list (yours excluded).
Oh and thanks for taking the time to read the guidelines for what belongs in the development section. It's people like you that make xda great!

Gingerbread on IRC

I've heard alot of chatter about dev's working on gingerbread for our beloved fascinate. What I haven't seen is a topic here on Xda discussing it. What do we have so far? Is there a timeline? And is it going to be a cwm zip file or an Odin push? Just wondering......

it isnt exactly close to a released rom yet... they got the kernal to boot...
still work to do im sure... but i just started to monitor IRC today...
looks like i'll be in irc a little more often now.
Birdman was getting the FIRST build cooked last night, I'm pretty sure there will have to be plenty of testing & fixes probably no where near a stable release. Just be patient, asking "Where is Gingerbread?!" Is not going to make it get here any sooner.
In IRC Birdman said he could have a rom in a day...if he had that much time. It'll get done when it gets done. I also heard that the aosp stuff will be able to be ported to gingerbread.
I imagine the build he's working from is based on the Nexus S, which would be AOSP from the start.
May not be the case however.
Which channel is that discussion happening in? I'd like to follow it, myself.

See, but that that link plus IRC don't mean anything just yet.
It'll come out soon though. Just remember to support your local Dev for their gracious work... Someone took time out of their day to make software that even the manufacturer wouldn't produce for you. So please remember to support their efforts.
Yup, we should all support our devs with encouragement and donations so that they don't jump ship to another phone. It seems like there are much fewer devs for the Fascinate than other phones so it would suck if they moved to the new stuff hitting Verizon soon.

I agree with the support-the-devs sentiment, but the only imminent releases on Verizon look to be an Evo rehash, a Desire Z rehash, and the iPhone. Given the latter, I wouldn't be surprised if Verizon lagged on true high-end Android releases for a while.

There is no other version of gingerbread. The only skinned version I've seen is the PlayStation phone and that hasn't been released. No altered form of gingerbread exists right now.

Still no signs of Android 2.3 for our beloved "Vibrant"?

Oh come on Samsung, its big time we get to taste the Android Gingerbread OS for our Galaxy S Vibrant. I have a Galaxy S I9000 and I got Gingerbread update in the month of Apr-May. But Samsung has not even released Android 2.2.1 for Vibrant. Did they forget this model?
Edit: No doubt I love the amazing Cyanogenmod 7 on my Vibrant but I'd love to see the 2.3 update from Samsung (some TouchWiz love LOL).

T-Mobile doesn't want to cut into upgrades. Since the Vibrant 4G is out and is the current model, the original Vibrant is deprecated. It is pretty obvious, as no other carrier has been denied a Gingerbread version for the Galaxy S except for T-Mobile.

The 4G isn't much of an upgrade for current Vibrant owners imo. I don't see why we couldn't get the software it's not like it would give us a FFC or 4g(maybe). I guess for those of us smart enough to root and flash that we survive with better roms anyway. We probably should have seen this coming. I mean the only way possible to get froyo was to update via kies which hopefully won't brick your phone.

[ICS] should they stop working on it

I've been following the ics project since after my birthday (11/27/11) and a lot has changed but when it comes to (FFC) it came to me that its not gonna work till maybe after the summer or never, whenever HTC gives out the code bit what's your opinion about the ics for the EVO 4G?
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
This doesnt belong in the Android Development section, belongs in GENERAL.
My bad I thought it was general at first. The system will automaticly do it for me as usual.
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
ummm my opinion on it is that if they dont want to they shouldnt. It will give us an awesome rom but more importantly that means our wonderful devs are learning stuff. this means that in the future they can use these experiences to help them in work or in other aspects of there personal lifes. so dev on guys you are doing great
Why in the world should they stop working on ICS? It makes little sense.
Deck and Kang and others are making great ICS ROMs for lots of phones, not just the EVO4G.
htc will release the code.. because it is an open source project. when is the question, not if.

The OS code is open source. The device drivers are not last I knew. So no, HTC does not have to release driver code.
HTC may release the FFC code for our OG's as soon as they sell enough of their newer devices.
They seem to be dragging their feet in releasing the official ICS updates for the Evo 3D and the Evo Design when they said they would, but they're holding it back, why? Cuz they want to sell enough of the One series models before they officially update the older HTC models that are scheduled to be updated with ICS.
Its kinda crappy of HTC to do that, but hey, they're a "for-profit" business.
But in answer to your question, heck no they shouldn't stop developing ICS for our OG Evo's! This sh*t is fun as hell.

what is the point of this thread? why is that a question? sorry no disrespect.
Yeah, I don't get why a thread was started for this. But why should devs abandon ICS on Evo? Because they can't get FFC to work!? I've been on ICS since the minute they got camera working (around Xmas), and could NEVER imagine going back to GB or Froyo (well, ...maybe froyo).

That's my point. This thread makes no sense. Ics development for evo is extremely active. Don't understand the creation of this thread.

Hahaha. Let's see... These devs have given us some of the smoothest ROMs our phones have ever seen, with incredible battery life and cutting edge features...
But if I can't look at myself in my phone with a FFC, what's the point??

Hell no. I am ugly. I don't want to see myself anyway.

The evo is EOL(end of life) HTC doesn't have to support it any longer meaning they won't release any source for it as they are not working on ICS for the device. Hardware mfgs may release source for the same hardware in other devices, like they did with the adreno or the devs may code their own drivers. But don't expect HTC to do a damn thing for the evo, period.

All I'm saying we have a lot of people love the ics Rom but some people hate it cause no 4G. But let me tell one thing about the ics it came a lot since then and like some people who are poor or they don't make a lot of money, its hard to keep up with ics roms when the last two months the biggest change was 4.0.4 which is like starting all over again. Don't get me wrong with the debate about their work, its freaking amazing, but the biggest break through will be the ffc. Closest to that is from a horse ride to a plane ride experience

I don't think that they should stop working on the ICS ROM's. I went from Sense to Ice Cream Sense to ICS and having ICS on my phone is like having a brand new phone. We don't have 4G in our area, and the front facing camera I hardly used. I am using gummyWorms ICS right now and so far had no major problems with it. There are minor glitches sometimes but, that is no big deal. I hope that the ICS developers can get everything working and I know that it will take time to do so. I appreciate all of their hard work in bringing us some ICS goodness to our phones.
