Unflashing a Metro Evo... - EVO 4G General

My friend recently got an Htc Evo 4g and he found out it was flashed to Metro PCS which he did not want, so is there anyway to flash it back to Sprint?

I have not.... was hoping for a simple process to flashing it back to sprint =/ but i'll take a look into that then.

I found that the Evo, my friend has is not rooted and has the 2.3.3 update, I've read to unflash the phone back to sprint i would have to flash a stock ROM that contains the Sprint ESN. but the problem is can a 2.3.3 Evo be rooted at least get CWM on it to flash the stock ROM? anyway around this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First I would find out with sprint if the esn is good.

an Evo flashed to MPCS is likely going to have a bad ESN and will not be able to be activated on Sprint again, hence the reason that phone was probably sold (or was stolen). However, that's not guaranteed. Definitely need to call up Sprint and check the ESN/MEID, or try this website http://www.checkesnfree.com/index.html, no clue if it really works though.
The ESN has not been changed on the device at all. The rom has nothing to do with the carrier. The phone can have whatever rom you desire on it and work on Sprint, MetroPCS, or Cricket if flashed properly. No ESN change necessary.
Btw, if that phone has the 2.3.3 update on it already then it IS a stock Sprint rom, and you won't be flashing other roms to that phone since the boot loader is going to be locked.
However, this should not stop you from being able to put the phone in diagnostic mode and flash the phone back to Sprint using QPST or some other phone flashing software.

Thanks for the response, and yes, the phone was sold to my friend which he later found out it was flashed to Metro PCS, and since the phone is on 2.3.3 the last option would be to call sprint and see if anything can be done.

I might of bricked my phone.

Okay I messed up I rooted my phone and updated it, and I tried to take a chance to put the hero rom on my phone, and now it's stuck on the install icon. I take the battery out and try to access recovery mode and it won't get off that screen.
What happened? I was wondering if someone would help me out here. Please.
What is the "install icon"? Your post doesn't make sense... can you describe what you're seeing?
Also, can you enter bootloader by holding down the camera button while powering up?
it's a box with a phone next to it. and no it won't let me enter bootloader. the same stuff came on.

If you can't enter bootloader or recovery, then you're definitely bricked. However, simply trying to flash a Hero ROM wouldn't do that. Did you flash the new radio and SPL?
I don't understand why newbs insist on flashing straight to a Hero ROM once they've rooted... you HAVE to update to a regular ROM first in order to flash an upgraded recovery, then flash radio, then SPL, then Hero ROM.
It was totally a noob move. I'm new to this whole thing and saw this youtube video of this guy running android and hero 2.0.1 on his g1 and like wanted it so bad and now I'm paying for it cause my phone is slammed stuck.
The Hero rom actually didn't do it, it was the radio update that was given with the hero rom that did it.
What Hero ROM did you use? Can you post a link? If you had flashed the SPL already, then flashed the updated radio afterwards, then yeah.. that would do it.

Yea thats what I did. Son of a *****, I knew I should of just waited until T-Mobile released 2.0 for the G1, but NO I had to "HAVE" it. ****!
That sucks man... did you buy your phone from T-mobile recently? If so, you could get it exchanged by telling them that there was some update, and then afterward it just gets stuck at that screen.
naw i got it about eight monthes ago. i bought two, one for me and one for my girl.
If you bought it brand new 8 months ago, it should still be under warranty. Call T-mobile if you ordered it online or over the phone, or take it back to the store if you bought it from there. They'll replace it for you.
Just don't tell them what you were doing... play dumb and act like you don't know what happened. Tell them there was some message about an update and you hit ok, then when it rebooted it got stuck.

Thats a actual hero rom for the Hero phone, you needed the ported one for the G1 / Dream.
I know its no help now the damage is done, but once you get the phone sorted.
As others have said just act dumb with tmobile and you should get it replaced.

Just flash a donut ROM after you root the replacement. Dwang's is a good choice, as it includes Terminal Emulator, which comes in handy to flash to an updated Recovery. I recommend Amon_RA's latest v1.5.2. Once you have flashed the updated recovery, THEN you should flash the updated Radio, THEN the Danger SPL. Follow the directions in my sig for flashing the Radio and SPL. Then you'll have to flash Dwang's ROM again, since the SPL flash will throw your phone into a bootloop. Just don't freak out. Make sure you read the tutorials and ask us questions if anything's unclear.

Sprint hero

okay so here is the question i have just bought a sprint htc hero i am going to flash it to metro pcs service... my question is this does anyone know if i flash it to metro pcs would me changing the roms as often as i do with my mt3g affect the flash of the service??? the reason i ask is becuse i work for metro and i know with the samsung instinct or even blackberrys if you upgrade the os after you have flashed the service you lose the flash.... understand?
I could be wrong on this but I dont belive it will affect it. With the BB and instinct if you change the OS you are actually UPGRADING the OS ie. 4.3 to 4.5. but when flashing a rom onto a hero you are not so much upgrading the OS as much as changing and tweaking it a bit.
Once again I could be wrong but thats what I think to be the case.
unless of course we get a fully working 2.1 going then the situation could be different.
thanks for your input
actully that does make sense but then agin when we flash our roms we do full wipes and alot of files and things that make the phone tick change well not change but they are reset everytime are they not? meanin that w.e i do has to be done agin in theroy being that i wiped the phone? and another question while im acting as a noob lol witch roms work with the cdma hero the same ones as the other hero phones? or only the two i saw in this section of the forum?

I am not a cell phone genius by any means, but I am pretty sure the way you move the Hero to another carrier is to change the PRL. Flashing our roms does not mess with the PRL as far as I know.

as they said DO NOT FLASH GSM ROMS!!
if you do you will brick your phone. for CDMA you have several different options. just check out the stickie wki at the top. also I forgot that Kcarpenter was right I belive you just change the PRL even if that is not the case, when you do a data wipe you are not reflasing back to stock all it does is erase all the user settings. anthing that is in the codeing for the phone remains.
edit: BTW the only roms you have to do a wipe with are the AOSP 1.6 the 2.1 v1.8-7 and the AOSP 2.0.1 the others should just flash over stock without any issues. I personally use Fresh 1.1 with the modaco kernel (love the setup very fast) links for all are in my sig also check out "Noj lockscreen" in my sig for some cool add ons.
okay okay
thank you its starting to make sense now thanks you guys yea im going to read all that now.. thank you guys

How do I flash back to Sprint?

I've got a Sprint HTC Evo that was flashed to work with Cricket. What do I have to do to get it back to working for Sprint? I talked to Sprint and the ESN is clean so no issues there.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I really don't know, but I would think running ruu on desktop may set it back completely stock.

Thanks.
I downloaded the RUU it ships with, thanks to ppcgeeks:
RUU_SuperSonic_S_Sprint_WWE_3.26.651.6_Radio_2.15. 00.07.28_NV_1.40_release_140444_signed.exe
File Size: 193Mb
And got HTC Sync from htc.com. Now all I need to do is use the Sync to put the RUU on the phone?
Is there any best way to do this or pitfalls I should watched out for?
Jim
I think you will just put the file in the root of your SD...then boot to fastboot. It should automatically scan for the ruu.
Well, yes the ruu will probably be cleanest way to go so, yes your right. I'm a MAC user so I know nothing of HTC Sync but it won't hurt to install it and then run the ruu. I would go with the newest ruu. But really, any for the evo will go perfect. Also, just to be extra clean with it, wipe everything in your recovery before. And so you know, the new unrevoked works with all current evo versions. And another note, if you plan on keeping the phone rooted but want to run the ruu, flash unrevoked forever (before you run the ruu) and you won't loose root no matter what until you flash unrevoked s-on(unrooter.)
XDA's evo development section has a thread which has all of the ruu's for the evo.
Sent From My HTC Evo 4G On The Now Network From Sprint Using Tapatalk Pro!
Where should I get the latest RUU? I just tried to run the one I got from ppcgeeks and it errored out.
It gave "ERROR [140]: BOOTLOADER VERSION ERROR"
I connected it through HTC Sync and ran the RUU from my desktop on my PC
I'm going to try the 3.3 RUU from shipped-roms and see if that works.
For reference the HBOOT on my EVO is 0.97.0000
probably need to flash radio and wimax also.
I thought the RUU handled the radio and wimax? I thought that the fact that it had _Radio_ in the title of the RUU meant it handled it? No?
If not, then how to I flash those?
UPDATE:
The 3.3 RUU installed just fine, and during the process it said "Updating radio...". Now let's see if it will activate [fingers crossed]
Some include all 3 and some are just the phone rom. I use Sprint Lovers. He shows 2 versions to download.
I am in the same situation, I have tried everything to get it back on sprint to no avail. Anyone else have some more options? I am un-rooted and back to stock, but still cant get data to go through on this damn phone.

[Q] Which EVO Rom to go with?

Ok so I am getting 2 HTC EVO's from a buddy of mine, Im going to be putting them on metropcs for my girlfirend and myself. Im going to do the flash by following the guides I found below;
1. Go to metro store and have them do a port for $30 (unless somone know a cheaper way to get my ESN added to metro's database)
1.5 Update Phone to 2.2 Froyo (if its not already, im not sure what android version is on these yet)
2. Root Phone and Unlock nand by using the method in this video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GsoVzMadiQE
3. Get all the goodies working, by following this page.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=796257
Now this is where my questions comes in. First, Does anyone see a problem with my choice of guides? If followed properly should everything above work just fine? Second, I want to flash the custom rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=795182
What are all the different downloads for? Are they differet builds or are they things that need to be installed on the phone after the flash? is there maybe a link to a guide on the rom itself?
And if I do flash a different rom, will all of the above settings still stick? SO is it literally 1. Install rom from SD 2. Boot rom and wait 3. Have fun? I wont need to "redo" anything after flashing?
Hope someone will lend me a hand here. Im not new to flashing phones, but I am new to flashing smart phones, For the most part the seems pretty straight forward.
Also I have the $40 MetroPCS Talk,Text,Web Plan, I do not live in a evdo market so I do not have 3G access, I will be using 1x and thats fine with me. However, do I need to upgrade my plan to beable to make this work? If yes then which plan would work best? if I dont "need" to upgrade, would there be any benifeit in doing so?
Ok I think thats it for my questions...Now I just cant wait to get the phones, he'll hopefully ship them on saturday.

I found a List of different roms, but do I need to use roms specific for MetroPCS or can I safely use any rom and everything should work?
Also is it safe to flash multiple roms? is it fixable if you get a bad flash?

That's an interesting question. I'm pretty new to flashing myself, but have been doing a lot of reading here and now have flashed 3 different ROMs. As far as the MetroPCS thing, someone else will have to answer that one. I only think of the EVO on Sprint. Can't think of a reason why any of the ROMs wouldn't work, other than Sprint specific apps, but don't know for sure.
As far as flashing multiple ROMs, from what I gather you can flash as many as you want. Of course you can only have one running at a time, but as long as you do your wipes between flashes, you should be good to go. If I'm wrong about this, somebody please let me know.

Ok so ill start looking around for MetroPCS specific roms. Does anyone know a good place to start looking?
as far as using sprint, I though about it, I also thought about porting to boost because with boost i could still get 3g, where with metro ill only get 1x. However Neither Sprint nor Boost have service within about 5mi of my apartment. Not only that but MetroPCS has actually been good to me for the past 2years.
Ok I found the Rom im looking for, but maybe im just slow, but IDK how to install it...

Cant do ESN swap on rooted evo 4g

Doing a chat with sprint to try and complete an ESN swap.
Evo 4g and IP4s.
so the agent attempted the esn swap and neither went thru so far.
Started working on the evo first.
Cant get the dialer to dial in the code:
##XXXXXX#
X's are replaced by a code they gave me.
Rebooted the phone, ect.
Rooted with latest fresh and using the stock dialer.
Looks like we will have to do a hard reset.
Any other tips?
Damn! Chat w sprint got disconnected.
Are you on a sense rom?
My knocked up EVO
You need to be on a stock sense sprint rom to be able to use all of those dialer codes.
Thanks guys!
I am on the latest Fresh rom.
Can you please direct me to a good sense rom?
TIA!
Just use a rooted version of the latest stock rom.
this made me laugh. yeah just use a Sense rom.. You wont be able to do this on a ASOP
ONLY SENSE has the EPST app required... As I recall it.
Other phones don't have it because its probably copyrighted.

It's actually because it's much more complicated to add than you think.
They were working on trying to incorporate this functionality into AOSP [the same way the Nexus S 4g does]...still not done. [Not sure if it will ever be, I heard the person that was working on it is on a hiatus]
Any ideas as of why my EVO wont let get into the data programing screen dialing ##3282#? I can get DIAG MODE (##3424#) to come on, but the ##3282# wont work anymore.
I'm running "barebones_evo_4g_467_deodex_012112_signed.zip" witch is a stock rooted rom I installed earlier and cant get the dialer to get me the ##3282# screen...
...any ideas as of why?
