okay so here is the question i have just bought a sprint htc hero i am going to flash it to metro pcs service... my question is this does anyone know if i flash it to metro pcs would me changing the roms as often as i do with my mt3g affect the flash of the service??? the reason i ask is becuse i work for metro and i know with the samsung instinct or even blackberrys if you upgrade the os after you have flashed the service you lose the flash.... understand?
I could be wrong on this but I dont belive it will affect it. With the BB and instinct if you change the OS you are actually UPGRADING the OS ie. 4.3 to 4.5. but when flashing a rom onto a hero you are not so much upgrading the OS as much as changing and tweaking it a bit.
Once again I could be wrong but thats what I think to be the case.
unless of course we get a fully working 2.1 going then the situation could be different.
thanks for your input
actully that does make sense but then agin when we flash our roms we do full wipes and alot of files and things that make the phone tick change well not change but they are reset everytime are they not? meanin that w.e i do has to be done agin in theroy being that i wiped the phone? and another question while im acting as a noob lol witch roms work with the cdma hero the same ones as the other hero phones? or only the two i saw in this section of the forum?

I am not a cell phone genius by any means, but I am pretty sure the way you move the Hero to another carrier is to change the PRL. Flashing our roms does not mess with the PRL as far as I know.

as they said DO NOT FLASH GSM ROMS!!
if you do you will brick your phone. for CDMA you have several different options. just check out the stickie wki at the top. also I forgot that Kcarpenter was right I belive you just change the PRL even if that is not the case, when you do a data wipe you are not reflasing back to stock all it does is erase all the user settings. anthing that is in the codeing for the phone remains.
edit: BTW the only roms you have to do a wipe with are the AOSP 1.6 the 2.1 v1.8-7 and the AOSP 2.0.1 the others should just flash over stock without any issues. I personally use Fresh 1.1 with the modaco kernel (love the setup very fast) links for all are in my sig also check out "Noj lockscreen" in my sig for some cool add ons.

I have a CDMA Hero running fresh rom 2.4.0 by flipz. I am trying to put it back to stock cause i would like to sell it and get a EVO. When I go to put the stock 2.1 on there it says the phone is not connected to the computer. But I can charge and do everything else. But it will not put stock sprint 2.1 back on there. Can anyone offer any help.

There was a locked thread in development where someone asked if it would work. A lot of people replied (obviously without even knowing what they are talking about) that it wouldn't work.
it DOES work on the myTouch 3G's - I just did it on one.
It works on any android phone - but the current apk implementation flashes the 1.4 cyanogen recovery image so it only works on phones that image will boot (i.e. the HTC Dream, or the Sapphire... etc)
It's way easier to apply that than it is to apply the nbh downgrade... etc.
Cool
I posted the question in a wrong area im glad someone with a mytouch tried it i bricked my first mytouch
Worked
This worked for me also I am now on CyanogenMod v3.9.11.2 and it works very well.
TY Cyanogen!
ed
Works...but hesitant
This definitely works on the MT3G just tried it...whew glad it worked Still extremely hesitant on flashing new rom though. Dont know why even though I have a rooted G1. Perhaps I just love this phone too much to f*#$ it up

Now that I think about it...If you just use this to get the recov img the MT3G still has the "perfected" spl. So exactly will this allow you to flash any new ROMs? That is why the "goldcard" was used to trick it and flash to an earlier "non-perfected" spl which would then allow you to flash ROMs updated radio etc etc etc. Shed any light on this?
I know there can be risks when doing any kind of modding/hacking. What is the main risk with rooting the MT3G? Is it mainly an issue with the battery falling out or running out of juice? Or is the rooting process invasive enough (i know it is root = can touch everything) or unstable enough that there is a relatively high probability of an issue running the canned procedure?
I have my phone, love it, my wife would kill me if I wrecked it. I just want to know how likely I am to end up with a brick using this method.
Also a question to understand this procedure, if I run the apk and reboot normally then there is no lasting root, correct? I have to go into the recovery mode and flash over a new rooted rom for root to become permanent? Does this actually change the SPL on the MT3G, does it preserve the ability to flash other roms at any time in the future? I want to know if this is a one time open up your phone for rooting or if after I do this will I always have root.
Sorry for all the questions, but I have been lurking around and haven't found definitive answers to these questions. Thanks!
Dave
Dave, Ive used this method. However if you didnt notice in my previous post...the spl does NOT change. Which is why I questioned the ability to flash any ROMs. The more "complicated" method (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=547133) requires a "goldcard" with an earlier version of the spl. Which I believe allows flashing to occur.
Yeah, I saw your post after I posted. I think this is great for a simple root I am thinking to have future rooting I will need the goldcard method anyway.
It would seem that this method should be able to modify the SPL since it is able to run as root, maybe not though...
I did mine last night and now doing my wifes MT3G and I was comparing cyanogen's vs stock and its night and day...no loading screen issues with cyan's build and keyboard response got better too...
LOL yeah Ii was thinking about the SPL if we can change it out? I kinda want to call my phone semi-rooted
so anyone flash a new spl/radio using this one click root? success? or no?

Just did it...1.33.2005/ also S-off. this is definitely legit and makes things a hell of a lot more easier than all those damn adb commands. Dont get me wrong at all I do appreciate all the work that was done by Haykuro and the other boys because without them Im sure this wouldnt be possible. Anywho...it works.
Okay. As newb as one can get with phone mods, etc. But it actually works. I dont know what the exact benefits of it are but I am running... Mod version CyanogenMod-3.9.11.2 per about phone. All my downloads are gone but it worked. I dont know what the difference/any limitations is for down the road, in comparison to the gold card method (I hope none), with this type of root but hey it actually worked and I would have kick my own a$$ if I bricked my phone. Thanks to folks who found this way and are their any "rooted" differences now that I am on cfw using this method for say updating to cyanogens 4.0 eventual release?
Alright, I took the plunge and it worked flawlessly!
I use the 1 click install via the market app called Recovery Flasher. I installed CyanogenMod 4.0.1 Stable. Zoom zoom zoom...
I thought I may have had an issue when I rebooted after flashing since it sat at the MyTouch 3G splash for a ton longer than normal. I had read it was normal for the first boot to take longer so I didn't freak out and pull the battery. I just let it come up and now I couldn't be happier.
If I remember reading correctly CyanogenMod has the fix for the root vulnerability used in this hack to root plugged. So, now that I have a rooted ROM and recovery 1.4 will I ever need to worry about having the dreaded "Perfect SPL?"
so easy a caveman could do it! a thousand times, thank you.

Oh, thanks for Quick Office.
now im just guessing through trial and error but i believe that if you go to the new damage rom then you WILL NOT be able to go back to any roms that will change the PRI because i and others have been noticing that when getting the damage rom and we dont like it and want to wait for a faster stable version we try to go to the previous version and it freezes on boot screen, and in fact i just tried this with a few eris build that have been reported to change PRI and even the modded version of damage and that's what my phone has been doing any one else try and notice this or can confirm this?

Last night when all the PRI issues popping up, I was a flashing fool trying to simulate what was going on!
And I can tell you that the only thing that affected it was the ERIS builds!
I should say it was the Eris build and user error!

you have? so this is probably a different error but does your phone have the with google on the back? because mine doesn't and i know that the with google has a higher sense version (by like .55) and they fixed some problems with the ones without with google when changing sense so what im thinking now is that its not the pri its something different and going to be a pain to find out

see i did this at least 8 times and still has this issue
The cause of the change of the PRI is not Damages latest ROM.
I was one of those that had to get their MSL to reset the phone, but I went
and re flashed Damages latest and the PRI stayed good.
So I'm pretty sure is not his.
There is people testing around trying to find which was the ROM that caused
it, but not sure if they have found out yet.
Okay this is what I did!
I am rooted and running a stock sprint ROM, this morning I flash this damage 2.0, bluethooth audio still does not work, but everything else was working great though. I nandroid back to 1.5!
Fast forward to this evening and all the problems everyone else has, and damage new version, I figure I will flash again to try it out! Then everyone starts talking about the PRI, so I jump in and start flashing other ROMS to try to get a different PRI#(Mine is 1.70_003).
So I go to the eris leak and flash PRI, it is still the same, but I have unknown operator and no sprint on my lock screen. Just for ****s and giggles I decide to flash back to the newest damage build without a wipe and what do ya know!
Now I have unknown OP and my PRI has changed to 2.11_002!
So now I am going to wipe and try to flash the newest damage build and see if it changes back!
I am wondering somewhere along the way some of you did not wipe first before flashing all these ROMS!
So it seems not doing a wipe causes this to change and stick for some unknown reason!
I am now back to rooted but stock and I still am stuck with the same bad PRI 2.11_002.
That was lastnight!
So this morning I did the PRI fix and got back to 1.70_003, and downloaded the legend leak ROM, did a wipe and flashed and verified my PRI was 1.70_003, then I nandroided like I did before without a wipe back to stock with root and my PRI is the same, so it is without a doubt related to the ERIS leak, and I also think that not wiping first has something to do with it as well!
I KNOW WITHOUT A SHADOW OF A DOUBT THE ERIS LEAK CAUSES THIS!
AND THAT IS REALLY THE ONLY ONE THAT WOULD AS THE PROBLEM DID NOT POP UP UNTIL THIS CAME OUT!
rulyskull said:

yes, it has with google, but I still changed to the bad PRI last night for some reason. I got back the right one using the fix and it has stayed there even though I have had 3 diff Roms on my phone today, one being the new Damage v2r2. I am on v1 right now due to needing apps2sd. The only thing I did diff last night was forgot to wipe when flashing from one rom to the next once. I somehow think that is part of the issue.
You also have to remember that alot of builds that came out after the Eris leak were for the most part based on or contained part of the Eris leak!
So even if it did not say Eris leak it prolly had aspects of it in!
Roman G, I dont know if you are aware of this yet, but only way to get your old PRI 1.70_003 is to get the MSL and do a phone reset.
Flashing a RUU or any other Rom won't do the job.

I not sure if your aware of this yet, because obviously you have not read anything I have posted, but I have done this 4 times already!
Thanks for the advice though!
I went back to my nandroid backup after installing damage's rom and I still don't have protected apps in the market. At least one other person has reported this so I know it's not just me.
I tried running the RUU back to a stock 1.5, still no protected apps.
I tried the pri fix that everyone is talking about. Called Sprint to get my number and followed the steps. Everything seemed to work ok but still no protected apps.
Anybody got any ideas?
I am wondering if there will be any issues returning my phone to sprint with the flipz01 PRI and this thread seems the best place to ask.
trying to clean sand from under my screen I blew out the microphone and can not use voice. I used Flipz tool to flash back to a stock ROM, however I noticed today that for PRI it says Flipz01. Sprint has already ordered me a replacement phone, but when I do give this phone back is there any way Flipz PRI can come back and penalize me?
Thanks in advance!

I would recommend reading everything in this thread. yes you can revert back to stock after flashing new ROMs. I highly recommend doing research before you start...that means searching. All the answers you will need are contained within existing threads.
Yes, you can restore the original ROM. In the guides to root it tell you to make a nandroid backup. That'll let you restore the original ROM.

Ok so I am getting 2 HTC EVO's from a buddy of mine, Im going to be putting them on metropcs for my girlfirend and myself. Im going to do the flash by following the guides I found below;
1. Go to metro store and have them do a port for $30 (unless somone know a cheaper way to get my ESN added to metro's database)
1.5 Update Phone to 2.2 Froyo (if its not already, im not sure what android version is on these yet)
2. Root Phone and Unlock nand by using the method in this video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GsoVzMadiQE
3. Get all the goodies working, by following this page.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=796257
Now this is where my questions comes in. First, Does anyone see a problem with my choice of guides? If followed properly should everything above work just fine? Second, I want to flash the custom rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=795182
What are all the different downloads for? Are they differet builds or are they things that need to be installed on the phone after the flash? is there maybe a link to a guide on the rom itself?
And if I do flash a different rom, will all of the above settings still stick? SO is it literally 1. Install rom from SD 2. Boot rom and wait 3. Have fun? I wont need to "redo" anything after flashing?
Hope someone will lend me a hand here. Im not new to flashing phones, but I am new to flashing smart phones, For the most part the seems pretty straight forward.
Also I have the $40 MetroPCS Talk,Text,Web Plan, I do not live in a evdo market so I do not have 3G access, I will be using 1x and thats fine with me. However, do I need to upgrade my plan to beable to make this work? If yes then which plan would work best? if I dont "need" to upgrade, would there be any benifeit in doing so?
Ok I think thats it for my questions...Now I just cant wait to get the phones, he'll hopefully ship them on saturday.

I found a List of different roms, but do I need to use roms specific for MetroPCS or can I safely use any rom and everything should work?
Also is it safe to flash multiple roms? is it fixable if you get a bad flash?

That's an interesting question. I'm pretty new to flashing myself, but have been doing a lot of reading here and now have flashed 3 different ROMs. As far as the MetroPCS thing, someone else will have to answer that one. I only think of the EVO on Sprint. Can't think of a reason why any of the ROMs wouldn't work, other than Sprint specific apps, but don't know for sure.
As far as flashing multiple ROMs, from what I gather you can flash as many as you want. Of course you can only have one running at a time, but as long as you do your wipes between flashes, you should be good to go. If I'm wrong about this, somebody please let me know.

Ok so ill start looking around for MetroPCS specific roms. Does anyone know a good place to start looking?
as far as using sprint, I though about it, I also thought about porting to boost because with boost i could still get 3g, where with metro ill only get 1x. However Neither Sprint nor Boost have service within about 5mi of my apartment. Not only that but MetroPCS has actually been good to me for the past 2years.
Ok I found the Rom im looking for, but maybe im just slow, but IDK how to install it...

I found that the Evo, my friend has is not rooted and has the 2.3.3 update, I've read to unflash the phone back to sprint i would have to flash a stock ROM that contains the Sprint ESN. but the problem is can a 2.3.3 Evo be rooted at least get CWM on it to flash the stock ROM? anyway around this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First I would find out with sprint if the esn is good.

an Evo flashed to MPCS is likely going to have a bad ESN and will not be able to be activated on Sprint again, hence the reason that phone was probably sold (or was stolen). However, that's not guaranteed. Definitely need to call up Sprint and check the ESN/MEID, or try this website http://www.checkesnfree.com/index.html, no clue if it really works though.
The ESN has not been changed on the device at all. The rom has nothing to do with the carrier. The phone can have whatever rom you desire on it and work on Sprint, MetroPCS, or Cricket if flashed properly. No ESN change necessary.
Btw, if that phone has the 2.3.3 update on it already then it IS a stock Sprint rom, and you won't be flashing other roms to that phone since the boot loader is going to be locked.
However, this should not stop you from being able to put the phone in diagnostic mode and flash the phone back to Sprint using QPST or some other phone flashing software.

Thanks for the response, and yes, the phone was sold to my friend which he later found out it was flashed to Metro PCS, and since the phone is on 2.3.3 the last option would be to call sprint and see if anything can be done.
