Anyone successfully return a broken phone to a bestbuy and get it replaced 10 months after the purchase? I really don't want to send it away for 6 to 10 days to get repaired.
Sent from my Htcclay's SuperCM7 G2 using XDA App
It's probably under warranty, meaning they just give you a refurbished one.
You think they still got g2s? I couldn't even find the G2 on tmobile website.
Sent from my Htcclay's SuperCM7 G2 using XDA App
So I'm guessing you've missed the news from a month or 2 ago that the G2 was discontinued?
When I had a mytouch 3g I had to send it off for repair. What a horrible experience. Very thankful for turn best buy warranty/service plan since it is better than the carrier's warranty but it isn't likely to be a 6-10 day repair. They had mine for over a month during which I called them several times a week. I eventually was given a new phone and was upgraded into a mytouch 3g slide, then finally a g2. A friends phone had to be sent back recently.and it also took close to a month to get back. Most I can say to you is to get comfortable and hopefully you have another phone laying around that you can use. Best buy's loaners are pricey. I had a Nokia for loaner that cost 200 (refunded of course) but still.

Best buy wouldn't take it back because I didn't buy one of their warranties but I went to the tmobile stand and they said I could just have them send me a new phone then I send mine back. I saw that the G2 was disscontinued but they still have refurbs.

Good to hear, still can't believe they have discontinued the G2 already. Its such a good phone...

I just ordered a warranty replacement from Tmobile. Has anyone done this recently? If so, did anyone get it with gingerbread on it? We still can't root a G2 with stock gingerbread on it right?

I've seen people still getting 2.3 or 2.2 its a real luck of the draw. Most likely if the refurb has been sitting in the bin for awhile its most likely 2.2, but w/e either way ull be able to downgrade and swap with whatever os u want
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
That's a relief.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
I just got a replacement g2 last week. It ended up being a brand new phone that still had the 1.34 Android 2.2 on it. Even if it does come back with 2.3, there is a root method via downgrade so you'll be flashing custom roms in no time either way

Hi xda well I'm looking at the sensation bout to jump over to it but I want the Samsung galaxy s2 but I was wondering I'm only a month away from my upgrade I've been with T-Mobile for 1 year and I have made every payment before its due. Any idea thanks.!
Sent from my HTC Gingerbread Glacier using XDA App
I was under the impression that you had to be with tmobile for 2 years for an upgrade
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
Yeah you don't get an upgrade until your 22 mo mark. I believe at 13 months you get a partial upgrade, where it's like 30% off of full retail value. You could always threaten to cancel, retention might offer you an early upgrade or a good deal on a phone. You won't be able to get the Sensation through tmo until the 15th though.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Wth really.??? Well that sucks I wanted to upgrade to something newer dual core. Oh well I guess I'm going to have threaten them haha lol. Unless I buy it on craigslist but oh well. Well 30 percent I might take as well. Thanks for your answers.
Sent from my HTC Gingerbread Glacier using XDA App
It sucks but really you knew what you were doing singing the contract and getting the discount on your current phone. Why try to screw them over you always know the second you buy a phone is out done a month later deal with it.

Well I bought the vibrant but then I had the g2, nexus one, back to g2 then somebody traded me there brand new glacier for my used g2. Well I guess I'm going to have to pt out of my pocket in that case ill wait till the sgs2 comes out. Seems to be befier.

Well I wasn't due for an upgrade until last month, but they gave me an exception and thus a full upgrade when I bought the MT4G back in Nov. So if you call it's possible to get one.
Good luck on the early upgrade it could happen, as for my upgrade it's in august and i'm thinking if the mt4g slide don't have more then 1gb rom i will probaly just wait it out till either the hercules or Nexus 3 come out. I'm not hurting that bad anymore anyways, since i'm coming from a g1 upgrade, i got a sick deal for this current mt4g phone on craigslist that didnt require a 2 yr contract woot.
Yea might as well wait a lot of good phones are coming out. Mytouch slide I might not Get. Yea if no 1gig I'm buying something else. Ever since I got the mytouch 4g I've been running stock gingerbread I tried cm7 but I'm in love with faux aosp rom. Well till then lets see what happens. Thanks again guys for the response.

So i filed a claim through asurion yesterday to replace my stolen phone and they told me that they no longer support the vibrant model and that they were going to upgrade me to a new model at the same deductible. it looks like there are no more vibrants through insurance. i will definitely miss my vibrant =(
Not good!!! Looks like ill be lookin on craigs list
Can you let us know which phone they send? Thank you.

Most likely the sgs 4g
Ya let's us know dude!

wonder about through tmobile? i'm still within one year...might get a 4g for the hell of it.
Interesting thread. I purchased my Vibrant the 1st week when it released, and I bought the insurance. The T-Mobile rep told me that "when" they stopped supporting the Vibrant, ill get an updraged phone, if I pay the $100 bucks for the deductible. YES, they used that as a sales pitch to get me to buy the insurance.
Now, I use a G2, but my wife has my Vibrant. It will be interesting to know what they send you.

I got a new Vibrant through T-Mo just a few weeks ago. (GPS on it is great, btw.)
I think it's crazy that a year old device is already "unsupported." WTH?
yeah shows that tmobile really only cares about profits. this makes me think that the vibrant is not going to get any more updates. very sad. makes me really hesitate about buying phones from tmobile if they are not too worried about support
Yeah, the fact that Tmobile no longer supports a year old phone is the reason why I'm seriously considering buying the Galaxy Nexus out of contract even though I am not pleased with the features they released. I would much rather wait for the new Galaxy and a higher res screen but I don't want to take the risk of having support for that dropped too.
I did a warranty claim b/c my phone was not charging, i got a vibrant S and not a Vibrant 4gS....
Read my first post in detail brah. Mine was through insurance. Not warranty

I'm actually kind of bummed about the galaxy s 4g. There's no internal memory card, no CyanogenMod, and there are a lot more roms and modifications on the for the vibrant. The front facing camera is a neat addition but i hardly ever use it. I dont really see a difference as far as the 4g modem. It's pretty much the same for day to day usage for me.

I've recently notice dust under my screen and at first I just ignored it but it has gotten worst over time. Now I've had this phone since July (2011) that makes it under a year so I can still have a warranty exchange right? Now would they replace it with a mytouch 4g or would they offer me other types of phones like a mytouch 4g slide? My other question is if they offer me a different types of phones which ones should I not fall for and which ones should I think about I really like the mytouch 4g cause of development so I hope they just replace it and is it better to call or go straight to the store what would be faster? Thanks!
Sent from my HTC Glacier using xda premium
I'm not sure that dust under the screen would warrant for a warranty exchange. Anyways, warranty exchanges are for same phone only. I've tried asking for a different phone when I had a Blackberry since I had so many problems. I think I had a good 4 or 5 exchanges in the first year I had it.
nope, actually, a lot of times they offer you a different phone, saying that their MT4G's are "out of stock".
this is just my opinion but,
MT4G Slide: good
LG G2X: eh good enough, your choice if you want a duo core, then choose that
Samsung Sidekick: DEF no way
Samsung Galaxy S: NO WAY, MT4G OWNS THE GALAXY S
HTC Sensation: if you're lucky, then of course, TAKE IT!
hope this helps... those are the phones i've heard of before being a replacement for the MT4G.
Thanks! now I have an idea. Also would it be free for a warrenty exchange?

Yes, warranty exchange is free, BUT you have to pay for the shipping and handling. If I remember correctly, it's $9.99 for 5-7 business days -or- $19.99 for 2-3 business days.
They can be jerks at customer service so be mindful.
They told me that they'd waive the shipping fee because my phone broke within 30 days of buying it.
I've only had the phone for 4 total months now since the original purchase and I'm on my 4th one because the warranty phones are all refurbished junk that someone else sent back. And they are still trying to charge me the $20 shipping fee on each one, after saying they've waived it.
The last one I got was broken out of the box. Had to do a factory reset just to get it to power on. I sent it back, and now they want to add another fee for not accepting it.
When you ask to speak to a customer service supervisor, don't believe their BS story about how their manager just walked into a meeting and they'll call you back. It's a lie. I've asked for supervisors 3 times in this process at various times of the day and amazingly....each time the supervisor had 'just walked into a meeting' like it was being read off a script.
None of them ever called me back.
So they will lie to your face. Don't take any of the BS from the customer service reps. Tell them your phone is unusable because of poor manufacturing and that you're not going to accept anything other than a replacement. Then be aware that you will NOT get a new MT4G. If you stick with the MT4G you WILL get a refurbished POS.
Wow thanks now I'm having second thoughts. I went to the t mobile store instead and they where nice about they said they would replace with a other my4g and said it would be new but I know that's bs now.
Also do you really need to unroot your phone? I just have the stock Rom with non apps that require root permissions? I've heard of people just returning it like that with no problem just want verify. Thanks

Has anyone sent in their MT4G for warranty replacement due to the unresponsive keyboard issue (keys randomly not responding, lag while typing)? Also, is tmobile still sending out the MT4G as replacements or are they giving out the slide and sensation now? Thanks!

Yes. They go through the whole troubleshooting process with them... for me nothing they did helped. In which case, they start the process of a warranty exchange.

Warranty exchange doesn't count as an upgrade right?
Someone on I know has verizon and their phone messed up and they gave them a different phone but it was considered an upgrade.

No it's not an upgrade. When I got the mt4g replacement, it doesn't change anything, it's covered under them. When the guy offered me the sensation, I asked him: is this costing me more $?, does this affect my contract?, does this affect my upgrade date later in the year? Everything was a no. He said it would cost me $5, which it did. That's about it.

I went about an hour ago and they said I'd have to go through two more replacements (cause I've already been through one) before I can get a "warranty exchange"
But off topic, they just tried to hire me cause I know so much about the phones and stuff and some guy wanted his iphone 4 on t-mobile but they didn't know what to do about it, so i jumped in the conversation and told him exactly what he needed to do.
Anyone know what the replacement would be through T-Mobile/insurion since they no longer make this phone?

Recently people have reported they have been given options of sensation, lg mytouch and mytouch 4g slide. Guess it all depends on when you call and how nice they are.
I just got a warrantly replacement for a mt4g, the guy said they had plenty in the Warehouse. i asked for a sensation offer and he said he had none.
I talked to them about a month ago and they offered me the choice of another mytouch or the lg g2x.
I was offered a MT4G or a ****ty sidekick, turned down both because my phone was still functional. And probably better than the crap that they would send me anyway
I recently had my MT4G replaced about 4 times, so they should have plenty available, but the down side is that, all of them came with a badscreen and a bad emmc chip, so...
