Ok, Ive got a new problem with my XDA Exec.
Opened it up and tryied to turn on the backlight and nothing. tried a soft reset, nothingtried a hard reset now it just sticks on the splash screen, the red writing comes up on the right and side and just hangs there forever!
Please help
You're stuck. apparently the only remedy is turning it in to repair. For most of us it is under warranty.
Just off the phone to 02. Theres sending me a new one via courier on monday. it's less than a day old.
Is this a comon fault with the Exec?
erm ... I managed to experience this problem.
I was trying to uninstall SPB GPRS thingy that comes with the O2 package, and it just wouldn't go. I ended up deleting the program files and getting an error when it started up, so I deleted the GPRSNotify file under Startup. It never worked again ...
I got the splash screen, tried soft and hard resetting and various permutations (including standing on one leg and while holding breath) ... nothing. Did try to install fresh ROM, but startup wouldn't get far enough to let PC load ROM over USB.
Ended up contacting O2 who sent me a nice shiny new one, as it was only three weeks old. This time I haven't installed GPRS monitor thingy, and I don't intend to fiddle with it again ... or at least until I've forgotten my lesson ...
Sorry i ment to give you guys an update on this. I did manage to get it working again, although i still accepted the new one the sent to me.
What i did was installed a new rom off the 02 website. at 1st the computer couldnt see the phone so wot i did was enter what i think was the programming side of the phone. i found the instructions on how to this on the net. i think i pressed the 2 soft keys and the light switch while pressing the reset switch with the stylus (i think that was the buttons but unsure as i cant find the page again) when the screen light up again there was some faint writing on the screen with the word serial or usb. Double clicked on the rom file and 30mins later my phone was revived.
Funny it was the gprs monitor that i too installed before the phone screwed up? ive since installed it again on the new phone and have had no problems with it since.

Otherwise known as Bootloader mode
Aye, thats the one.
Cheers
So I am having to flash back to a previous version due to some issues with the camera and battery.
Flash back to a Telstra official ROM from HTC website - it installed fine - however when it goes to the 'align screen' it doesn't register any taps at all.
If I try to reflash with an older original rom it comes up with a connection error
Any ideas?
--- Update ---
I have updated to the original stock rom for Telstra + original SPL 1.15 - when I boot however it does the 'first time setup' - and the align screen comes up - if I 'rub' my finger around the location it will move - but no single tap works - after going through the five spots - it will just then loop again... really frustrating!
Similar symptoms
After updating my touch HD I noticed a similar effect. When my phone was new the screen align requested 5 taps then proceeded, however after flashing to newer ROMs the screen align intermittently repeats itself.
I've found however that it suceeds more often (and quicker) when I use the stylus to tap the center of each cross and make sure each of my taps are 'long-holds' (like when holding the 'tap' for the context menu).
I have put it down to an update perhaps trying to more accurately align the screen to the user? But I would be interested to find out if in fact it is a problem with the software, or something with the screen maybe?
Unfortunately though, my only offer of a solution to your current problem would be how I got passed it; patience, and firm screen taps (with the stylus).
i think it's best to use the stylus whenever you align the screen. i usually tap-and-hold until the crosshair moves to the next spot. i've never been able to align with my finger.
I would recommend a hard reset and try again. Worked for me!
yeah I tried a hard reset - and tried holding for ages as well - no luck so far

are you using a stock ROM along with a stylus? also, if i recall, you were wanting to reinstall your stock ROM to get your device serviced? correct? was the screen one of the issues you wanted to fix? and finally, if you applied the stock 1.15 SPL, be sure you flashed the ORIGINAL Telstra ROM. i'm not sure of this (and it could be a moot point) but flashing to the newest Telstra ROM could update your SPL. sorry for all the questions; this is my way of brainstorming via user forums.
My Touch HD is frozen....was using fine so many days - suddenly overnight - I can no longer use. The whole unit is unresponsive.
Tried the following:
Soft reset...got stuck on the home screen after boot....
Hard Reset....boots then stuck in align screen
ROM Flash...tried 6.1, 6.5 flashes...then boots then stuck in align screen
Official ROM Flash...flashed..then boots then stuck in align screen...
I am out of ideas - what to try next...can someone give me idea what could be the problem - I think my fone is still on Warranty - I bought it on August 2008. SO I will probably need to send for repairs! Will need to put back stock SPL etc...before I send it...
When the fone is stuck on align screen and I link the fone to my Laptop the activesync starts - and I can browse the folders on the fone - that's about it!
Is there any way I can bypass the align screen part - so I can see if the rest of the fone works.
Gosh! how much will it cost to get this sorted?
Please someone give me some ideas on what I can do to get this resolved.
thanks

Have you tried flashing orginal stock rom which came with device. Has been known to fix a multitude of problems.
Also you can bypass align screen. Read alternative solution halfway down first post in this thread, though it does require copying a file to your sd card
Thanks Spartan
Yes - I have flashed with the official ROM - same issue got stuck in the Align Screen.
Then I tried the welcome.not procedure to bypass the align screen and it crossed that stage and now I can see the home screen - but none of the screen functions work, not even the four buttons below - phone, home, <- and the end key. I tried the volume key and it bought up the volume screen, and sound is OK as i change the volume - rest nothing is working.
I can receive calls but I cannot pick up - since there is no response from the screen.
I was wondering if there is a way to install some app on it so I can use the PC to control the functions? all I want to do is to make sure I have all the stock and details before I send it out for repairs.
Any idea what the problem could be and how much it would cost to repair? will it be covered under warranty?
Thanks/DD
I managed to install MyMobiler - and can use the functions using my laptop - which would imply something wrong with the screen and due to that it's not responding. Voice is OK, incoming outgoing is OK....
Any ideas if this repair will be under the warranty? how much it will cost?

If device is still in warranty period it should be covered. If you can access bootloader you can check whether or not you have stock SPL and Splash screen should tell you what build of rom your using, which should be enough to confirm if you have stock rom on device
Thanks Spartan.
Looks like it's send to HTC for repairs for me. Hopefully it wil be covered by warranty.
Does it make a difference which Stock SPL i need to have I have been reviewing the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=431217 for stock SPL and see different versions.
File Type: zip Restore_Stock_SPL_114_2.zip (132.7 KB, 27307 views)
File Type: zip Restore_Stock_SPL_113.zip (132.7 KB, 11818 views)

I have already flashed the Official ROM which incldes the radio RUU_BlackStone_HTC_WWE_1.56.405.1_Radio_52.62.25.34_1.13.25.24_Ship.exe
so which SPL shoud I flash - or can I just flash the last one SPL154?
thanks

Hi Spartan
One final question....I am sending off my HD for warranty repairs and want to make sure I am OK. I have replaced stock SPL and also flashed the official ROM and the details are as per below:
When I check bootloader - I see the following:
BLAC100 32M
SPL-1.54.0000
MicroP-Blackstone (LED) v6
When I boot the HD normally - I see the following in the bottom during startup:
R 1.13.25.24
G 52.62.25.34U
D 1.56.00.00
Due to the screen freezing, I am unable to check the ROM version etc - but I have used the following to Flash.
RUU_BlackStone_HTC_WWE_1.56.405.1_Radio_52.62.25.34_1.13.25.24_Ship.exe
Can you please confirm - if this is OK (in terms of sending to HTC for repairs) as I am unable to go into the unit (screen frozen) none of the buttons except volume working. Have tried everything.
Thank you for all the help.

sounds like its your digitiser thats broke
looking at your info, all loos well for returning device. As long as you have stock SPL and rom you'll be fine, which you do
HD Frozen "Same Problem"
I have exactly the same problem "Copy cat" of what've suffered lately but I noticed something in my touch screen that when you look at it with 180 angle you see that there is something wrong with screen colored...
I think the problem from degitizer...........

Well I'd imagine if you had turned the phone 180 degrees, you'd be staring at the back and not be able to see the screen.
I read somewhere that you can skip the align screen by holding volume up and down buttons and tapping the screen.
I mean to look at the screen horizontaly
I did by holding volume - + with tapping the screen, but it doesn't work
Please tell me your latest update as I'm out of soution and it's under warranty.....
Take care

Looks like you have something like a Newton Ring (search the forum for more info).
I also had one unit with this problem and I fixed it without replacing the touch panel, but it requires you to have some hardware skills... that is if your device is not warranty covered.
You have to heat up a little bit the touch panel using a hot air soldering station and gently lift the first layer of the touch panel to allow the air to go inside. But I have to warn you that you could easily damage your touch panel!
Extract the file and place this welcome.not file in the root of the SD Card and hard reset and it will bypass the Align screen segment....

I just set a 4 digit password on my HTC HD T8282 a few days ago. Its worked fine for several days - when I turn it on and enter the 4 digit code, everything is fine. But a couple days ago I turned it on and the password screen shows the number pad, but when I touch the numbers, nothing happens (usually I would see an * for each digit I press), but nothing happens when I touch the digits now, however I can press the "Menu" button on the bottom right of the screen and get a selection of Reset Password or Cancel - but the only option that can be selected is cancel (the 'Reset Password' option is greyed out).
Any idea how I fix this, I can't use may phone now!
I'm trying to avoid doing a hard reset if I can.
Any suggestions???
it might be an issue with your touch screen calibration, have you tried connecting and controlling the device using a windows pc and mymobiler?
Interesting! I did notice that the screen calibration was off one day and recalibrated it and everything seemed fine after that. But I'll definitely give this a try! I'll let you know what happend too.
Thanks for the quick response!

I downloaded mymobiler v1.25 and intalled it. My PC is running Windows XP and I use ActiveSync v4.5. ActiveSync is able to connect to my pnone when its connected to my PC but I can't get mymobiler to connect to it.
I see the mymobiler icon in the system tray but it gives a "not connected" message if I place the mouse cursor over the icon. Also, if I click the icon and get the menu, even if I click "Connect" nothing seems to happen.
Also, the mymobiler screen doesn't show when I select "Open Mobiler".
Anything I'm doing wrong?
that reminds me of the question i should have asked in the first place:
did you set the password with the windows mobile built-in security feature or using a 3rd party software?
background: the windows mobile's own security is meant to prevent proper activesync connections, because, without entering the password, you are not supposed to be able to sync data or access the phone, in that case, activesync should ask you for your 4 digit password, before the connection is really established.
also, if i remember correctly from my blueangel (which had a password bug with cooked roms), a hard reset wouldn't even be enough to unlock the phone again, because potential thieves could do that as well and had a brand new phone on their hands. so only flashing the device with another rom did the trick.
assuming that, as a reasonable windows mobile user, you create regular pim backups, either using pimbackup, MS myphone or outlook sync, you might be better off, just flashing the rom again, performing a hard reset and start over. after all, as of now, your phone is only a useless brick and being able to use such a great device again should be worth more than a few sms or the 90-120 minutes it takes you to flash the device and set it up again and install your apps.

Its the Window's built in security feature.
It seems as the activeSync works to update my Microsoft Outlook with information from my phone while connected to my PC. But Mymobiler doesn't connect to the phone.
I wouldn't even know where to start for flashing the rom - never done that, looks like I'm going to have to do some reading on the forum...
UPDATE: I did a hard reset on my phone and now after booting, it shows a screen alignment screen and I keep pressing on the screen where the marker is, each time the marker moves to the next location (center then each corner of the screen). After I finish with each location, the process starts all over again - it just keeps doing this.
Any idea what is wrong now???
if it just keeps starting over, the points you pressed were too far off the regular grid, so the device "doesn't believe it". you should have a look at your screen, whether somewhere there might be a tiny peace of dirt or an air bubble under the screenprotector or something like that. since the blackstone lacks multitouch, when it detects 2 display touches, the relative center of the 2 points pressed is the touch point it recognizes. say, you have dirt pressing your display in the top left, you are aligning the screen at the bottom right, it will determine the relative middle of the display as touched point.
so what i'm trying to say is:
either your screen has some hidden peace of dirt somewhere, which would mean, clean it thoroughly, OR your display is starting to fail due to a hardware defect, caused probably by the device's age and everyday wear and tear. in that case, have a look at ebay for the digitizer+lcd combo, download the blackstone service manual and exchange the display. also, in case you need to buy spare parts, be advised that the price for a used blackstone, depending on your location, might only be as high as 80-180$ (which makes some spare parts heavily overpriced in comparison to the price of the device itself).
Thanks again Chef Tony! I'll give that a try.
I was just looking at ebay for a digitizer+LCD combo and saw this but also saw a digitizer only which was much cheaper. Since my LCD screen appears to be fine (image on the screen visible), do I need the Combo, or will the digitizer only work (or is it much easier to install the combo, etc?) Since I've never done this, just wondering...
i believe there are a few other threads on this forum dealing with both the installation of the digitizer only and the combo. the problem appears to be that the lcd and the digitizer are glued together, which makes it very hard to separate your original unit and there is a risk of harming your lcd in the process, which makes the repair more expensive. personally i'd go for the combo for more convenience.

Thanks - that make sense. I'll look at getting a combo. I found the post with pics about replacing it on the forum and hopefully that does it for me. Thanks so much for all of your help!
Thanks Chef_Tony! Got the combo unit and installed it today - phone is back up and running! Thanks for all of your help!
I found a good video on disassembly and reassembly on the web, just in case anyone else needs it, here's the location:
http://vimeo.com/7623264
Hi, a while a go my phone crashed, so i took out the battery and put it back in and started my phone up, but it would only load up to the HTC screen and then it would constantly loop at that screen. To my knowledge, it has never been rooted.
Its running SPL-3.03.0000
small update, tried to update it, to see if that would fix anything, but the update failed. Now it goes directly to the colored bar screen.
don't know for sure but it sounds to me like a motherboard issue.
Check all 3 battery pins contact well.
Also try using the reset button under battery door .
also try booting with sd & sim removed.
i've tried before with and without an sd, i haven't had a sim in it for a while. i used the reset button and it took me to the screen saying update failed.
What update error message exactly.
What model HD2 is it ? EU or TMOUS (t-mobile usa, red & green end/call keys)
TMOUS
System update failed. Please try again.
What ROM you try flashing ?
I would go to HD2 Wiki & use the links to download the original TMOUS ROM & try flashing it via PC & if keeps failing try sd card flash too.
For some reason, my phone won't show up as a removable drive on my computer. It connects to the computer because i hear the sound and it shows something i can eject, but it won't allow me to access the sd card on it.
Do you have windows activesync or WMDC on you computer ! if yes download the original TMOUS ROM for your HD2 then attach your hd2 via USB & run the ROM installer from computer & see if it can recognise your HD2 & attempt a ROM flash.
I expect failed flashes could of left it in more of a mess than was. I would remove SD card when trying flash & if need access sd card use card reader.
Ok, so i installed HSPL4 and that worked, and then i installed the official rom and it worked. Now my screen isn't responding to touch.
try doing hard reset & see what happens but expect you may need new digitizer if all else seems ok ... you can connect it to pc & use mymobiler which will create a window on the PC with image of HD2 screen display & can be controlled from pc which may be handy for checking all function of HD2 if digitizer completely dead.
so after a couple of days of not working, my touch screen finally worked for about 15minutes, and then stopped again. Would that be the digitizer or would it be the end call button problem?
Edit: So i think i found out a way to make my screen work. It all depends on the way i press the end call button that allows me to use the screen and not use it.
Probably still the digitizer as main flex runs close to end key so movement in this area tends to make or break connection in a failing digitizer ribbon ...
Would personally buy spare button board if do a digitizer as makes testing new assembly very easy before building it back together plus if old on faulty or broken during strip down you already got it & outlay for button board is $5 tops, Digitizer is around $15 .
