Hey guys, I just bought my galaxy s2 a couple of days ago and went and rooted and installing villain rom on it and it works like a charm but I noticed that in the carrier brand firmware thread over at the development section there was no Mexican firmware, there were lots of other countries just not Mexico.
When I was trying to download the correct kernel to root my phone, I noticed mine was KE4 and there were no KE4 files either but I read that I could use KE2 just as well, so I downloaded that and it worked, then I installed the newest villain rom which replaces it with another kernell anyways so it wasnt that big of a deal but the carrier firmware is something that worries me in case I want to go back to the original stock, you never know, right?
Thanks!
Your can flash any stock fw. It doesn't matter. Their pretty much all similar.

Hi guys,
Ok, here is the deal, a few months ago I bought a SGS GT-I9000T and via Kies updated it to Froyo, all was great, then updated to Gingerbread (not rooted or anything fancy), and everything went down the hill from there, force close,,random shutdown, drained battery ,.....
anyway, I replaced the phone and the new I got, was already on froyo, so I kept it like that. The phone has been working great, even the gps works well (was not working on the first on too well). It has been 4 months. The problem is,now I am starting to see apps that require gingerbread so I am tempted to do the update, but only if I can revert if things go south.
And to revert I will need to flash the original firmware. I looked on samfirmware and it is not there, so I was thinking the best way might just be to get it from the phone directly.
So how can I get the firmware directly from my phone so that I can flash the file back to Froyo if I get the same problem with Gingerbread.
Anyway, my Froyo version is :
FROYO.UBJP9
Firmeware 2.2.1
Kernel: 2.6.32.9 [email protected]#1
Any help would be nice.
Yeah IDK why that particular FW isn't on samfirmware either since many keep looking for it.
You could always do a Nandroid Backup. That makes a complete image of your phone that you can go back to.
I don't have a link handy, but there are a bunch of Nandroid tutorials out there to Google...

Thanks a lot. But I am not rooted. I would not mind rooting, but I have the same problem, a lot of the guide that I found ask for specific files for a specific firmware and unfortunately I cannot find mine.
Is there any way to back up without root?
Please help me. I tried a factory reset from the settings and now im stuck in boot loop, i see samsung logo then samsung animation over and over.
i used this method to root : http://www.androidauthority.com/how-to-root-your-samsung-galaxy-note-video-30421/
My device is a UB version so there is no stock firmware available, from all that ive gathered so far.
I just went thru the root method again hoping it would unbrick it from the boot loop but it didnt.
How can i get out, anyway possible. Maybe install a rom or something????????
I can get into download mode and cwm if that matters.
ANY other info needed ill be right here to answer
i guess ill try and flash the sheep rom
Ok i guess i cant use that rom since its kka kja ????????????????????
this is frustrating me more than any phone ive ever played with

I didn't assume anything. They are imported. From where i have no idea imported only going off what i have gathered so far

You live in America, so gather this information: Portugal also colonized America, and the result fo that is Brazil. No, we do not speak spanish.
why are you even here in this thread if thats all you want to do is talk **** that i dont care about.
Are you able to help or are you just looking for an arguement?????

I can only assume that you are stuck in a boot loop not because of root but because you removed or froze some system apps and didn't undo it before you did a factory reset.
At this point just flash one of the other stock ROMS using Odin and it should bring you back up.
If you are looking for your specific stock firmware you will need to know your product code (usually it is on the box and will show up something like GT-N7000XNBFSS) You will also need to know the EXACT version of your PDA, CSC and MODEM and then you will be able to grab that specific stock rom using CheckFus
I didnt freeze any apps at all. i was still in playing mode. my phone looked ugly from all the messing around i did.
I just wanted to reset back to default for everything and start over
Im not real sure how to flash a rom with odin but im about to figure it out. Not to mention i am looking for stock roms i can seem to find
Thanks for letting me know though, that i can be back in bussness
What would be the latest stock rom that i can flash with odin and where do i download it? Im going in circles here. Is it the hong kong rom?
See, ive read wrong pit files are bad and that hong kong has a pit file. do i flash without the pit?

Here's what I did:
1) Installed CWM recovery with odin. This is relatively straightforward.
2) get the hong kong rom, put the zip file directly on your sdcard.
3) use cwm's 'install from zip' to install the rom.
It's pretty straightforward, and I didn't have to mess with pit files.
The hong kong rom might not be the latest, nor is it stock, but I'm recommending it because it's a working rom that I installed fairly easily.

CWM was already working because i guess it was installed when i rooted with that not so popular method. installed the hong kong rom. i was hoping to get a stock rom cause i was playing with stuff and checkin it all out, but thats ok, this is probably what i would have ended up with, a nice clean system without all the garbage.
privacy/ factory reset is WORKING now !!! and the yellow triangle is gone now
Thanks!!!
Ok lastly, i lost CWM with this rom though its rooted. I like that. How do i get CWM back. I need to flash that updated market thing with it to update gmail app
I need to install this, but it doesnt say how to in there
ROOT + CWM kernel and official kernel Download: http://min.us/lbr3L9wf7aHUuC
OK I've finally got it back but I'm not in love with these custom roms. I tried the Hong Kong ROM but it was cleaned of a lot of apps and a few problems. I'm now on one of the other roms but it seems to be chewing thru battery and a couple of apps that showed and installed from the market on my stock ROM do not show in market and say incompatible from the market web site. I wish I could just get back to factory. Maybe ill sell it and order another one and not root until its an easy root method like the infuse was

I'm from the UK and have the UK version of the Note. It seems that pretty much everywhere else on the planet are getting firmware updates and we are not. Since the release of the Note, I've read of other countries getting updates yet there has only been one here since release. I'm currently KK5 (or it could be KKA, not sure which number)
I'm just wondering why others get updates as we don't.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
different countries always get differne updates, every company works that way with regards to android updates
You have the latest update for our country if you're on kka if u feel like ur missing out you could always grab a stock rom and flash that.. latest is LA6 or try out one of the custom roms available

Time to bite the bullet! I was wondering when we'd get an official update too, as I didn't want to go down the same road as I did with the HD2 and flash a new rom every other day trying to find a good one. So I rooted the stock rom (same as yours), flashed the Samsung LA6 rom over it, then flashed the Abyss kernal. Much better now! Probably won't flash a new rom now until ICS is officially out.

I'm with you on that.
I have the abyss kernel with KKA. Do you find much improvement with LA6? I have read about a few issues.
Hey guys,
Long time lurker here, I flashed back to stock 2.3.6 carrier firmware (telstra in AUS) about 3 days ago because I feared my phone had the infamous USB port error (random charging without charger plugged in and other related issues) and I might have had to return it for warranty.
I got a notification popup while on my home screen (right now 8pm GMT+10) that there is a new update available which will wipe some settings in order to install ICS (215.72MB Update).
Just thought i'd update you all that are in the same boat as I havent seen any information about carriers updating to ICS.
I'll update you and let you's know how I go.
I can't show you a picture becuase i've posted less than 8 posts.
Bit late on the update..
Telstra, and Optus have already rolled out ICS for S2 a few weeks ago..
I run 2 Galaxy S2 phones, on both networks. Both upgrades are so much smoother. Although TW launcher is the same, so just flash a new launcher to suit..
I use alot of features and high power apps and no bugs as yet..
Although I am looking for a telstra DVLP4 insecure kernel to re-root. If anyone could be of assistance?? For a beer, or thanks..

I too am looking for the rooted Kernel. Please let me know if you find one. I flashed the new update from the wanam rom and I must say I am loving the battery life. Watching Fox on the telle from my phone is kinda cool also.
Anyone who wants an 'insecure'/CFRoot LP4 kernel should extract the stock kernel zImage from the rom package, send it to Chainfire & ask him nicely to make a CFRoot kernel.
Doubt you'll see an insecure/root kernel for this build otherwise.
Neede Kernel Bad
Hey Guys i would really like the stock kernel for this rom can any help me Please I have search for ages pleas help

By the way i have tried and tested this kernel and it works great for ics on galaxy s2. And is rooted had has cwr 5 pre installed give it a try.
CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_LPS-v5.4-CWM5.rar Google it new user so it wont let me post links yet sorry
CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_LPS-v5.4-CWM5.rar
I tried it, and so far so good. One problem was rebooting after I flashed it. Phone says TW failed to launch than rebooted nad no worries mate!

I upgrade via kies too. But if ypu flash the kernel above you will have root access again!
Does anyone know what the modem after the update is? And if this modem can be used with a GB Rom.
DVLP4 according to Checkfus. Yes. You can flash whatever modem you like. Modems originally supplied with GB stock roms will work with ICS & vice versa. However, different modems tend to work best with particular networks and sometimes even vary a bit with location (variations in equipment/bands used by the same telco in different locations).
You should be able to find a CWM flashable version of the modem via a Google search with XDA appended to your search terms, or, have a look in the AU SGS2 thread. I'm fairly sure this modem has been discussed (and posted/at least links to CWM versions) somewhat recently. If you can't find it, ask someone to post it for you in that thread.

So long as it's a Telstra modem, I'm happy. I see your flag says you're with vodafone..
From Checkfus - Android/GT-I9100T/Australia (Telstra) - GTI9100LKJTEL:
I9100TDVLP4/I9100TTELLP2/I9100TDVLP3/I9100TDVLP4
The third bit is the modem. Yes, I'm with Voda. And ?

I assumed the modems were different for vodafone and telstra even if they use same frequency
What telco I use has nothing to do with anything I looked up the Telstra details with Checkfus, plus I keep an eye on the AU thread so I know it's been discussed. As per the edit to my post above, the modem is actually the 3rd bit in that string. Go back to the AU thread, I'm about to post there.

*ignorant post about not being sure how to root*
EDIT: My original post was asking a bunch of questions for how to root my Telstra specific Ice Cream Sandwhich phone. I have now done this and it was surprisingly easy.
The easiest way is to follow the following guide here (which is already Telstra specific).
However you will want to use the following kernal (pretty much first step). which is for ICS, you can find this filehere.
I was concerned I would lose my Next G speeds, but all is good. Still getting 6000kbps at home!
Cheers
Thanks Great Info
Here is the latest stock ROM from Telstra dated 27/03/2012 for the Telstra variant with 4G/LTE.

I saw this on sammobile the other day but wasn't sure if I should install it or not. Will we have to re-root if we install via Odin?
Tim
Hi There,
Bit the bullet tonight and installed the new ROM through ODIN. The only difference that I've seen so far is the 4G logo has changed and the arrows now have colour.
It overwrites root and CWM but the existing methods to reinstate these work just fine.
