Yeah, I was jsut coming back to edit it ad add that 2.6.32 is froyo kernel source. I believe we are waiting on 2.6.35?

Yup. As the title says, the "official" froyo source code has been released. Check it out here.
What does this mean? Nothing to you if you have to ask this question. Just know it will make your phone even more awesome than it already is with a little xda-dev "magic" .

Thank god we can get an actual .32 OC'd now. I am sick of running an old kernel just to run at 1.3 ghz
First of all, it isn't Netflix not supporting the Epic and its not Samsung denying Netflix support. It is 2.2 not supporting the hummingbird drm good enough for Netflix.
It is not the epic 4g, it is hummingbird based devices on the 2.2 kernal. Our cm7 isnt built on gingerbread source. It is still on 2.2.1 source. The reason that you need 2.3 because it has better hardware support for the hummingbird processor due to the fist flagship device to have a hummingbird was on 2.3 release not 2.2 release. Also, our software DRM that Samsung gave us in our 2.1 and 2.2 based ROMs sucks/is unable to support Netflix web streaming.
It is kernal drm enhancements for hummingbird in 2.3 that cause Netflix to work. No, we can't port this over to 2.2.1.
Please don't make any more Netflix related threads!
You know they won't stop, but thank you for the effort

Cm7 is ONLY 2.3. Idk where you got an idea like that. It's aosp and has nothing to do with sprintsung ROMs. 2.2 is cm6.

From what is being said it will be fully functional once Gingerbread source is released.

Big differenced I had the evo for almost a year, the samsung nexus s for a month and the epic and cm7 blows anything out of the water, they are some bugs hre and there but really cm7 has a lot work done that you won't believe from cuztomizing lock screen to take prmission from apps and such, from modifying power control widgets on the drop bar menu to themes, I think google should have done that first, cyanogen has done a lot of work and best of all is free, I donated a few times already they deserve the recognition

Ha ha yeah sort of, well they all got their ups and downs I mean the epic I think take better pictures then the EVO or the nexus s , the screen on the epic and the nexus s are amazing compare to the EVO , bit yet the EVO got the best development and support (netflix and such) and the nexus too, I wish the EVO would have been a 4" screen and super amoledl and the epic camera and the huminbird processor lol , well practicly and epic with HTC sense and development ha ha
I'll say stick with the EVO till EVO 3d could get fully rooted

Actually, GPL states that you must release the source code with the release of the program.
Still can't post links, but Google HTC 0 Linux Core Devs 1 and check out a nice funny story about it.

If only I knew. I was just clarifying that it's not 30 days. It's SUPPOSED to be immediate. Just because they're not happy with it is no excuse to hold back the code.

Google wrote a lot of the code for HC, and has been able to get around releasing the code because it's still a work in progress (it came out around March and is already on 3.1).
Also the main reason (or at least the reason they've given) for not releasing complete source code (kernel source is available) is to avoid cheap knock off tablets that run underwhelming hardware flooding the market and destroying the Honeycomb reputation before it even has one.
Discuss people... lets complain!

why not? the kernel source is the kernel source. until we get a gingerbread kernel from samsung, there will be no driver source for the epic.

Yes, but maybe this is a good sign? If they released it for the ET4G then perhaps they will eventually release it for us? Until now, I had never seen anything suggesting they would release driver source...
I wouldn't be surprised if uncle Sammy purposely delayed the update till after the S2 was out to try and get some people to jump ship from the epic.

Both EB13 and EC05 sources contained all built-in kernel drivers as well as source for many, but not all, external kernel modules. Both only contained souces for GPL & LGPL userspace components, which is uselessly little.
We'll get kernel source code for Gingerbread when it's officially released. I wouldn't expect userspace sources beyond those components released with EC05.
I would not hold my breath waiting for anything to come for the epic 4g. Now that the epic 4g touch is here samsung has all but forgotten about it.

Where's your logic here?
Obviously not since 1. Samsung has been perfecting a gingerbread build for the epic since froyo came out. 2. Its not like it was a surprise to them that the epic 4g touch came out... I mean they did make it and plan for it. 3. the epic 4g was even taken of the EOL list.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
if the touch sells well, and if the ginger bread issues are still prevailent, i could see them giving up on finishing gingerbread. im sure there is a careful formula that takes in to consideration the percentage of users who even care and the cost so far and projected losses of not releasing it vs acually finishing the build.

Galaxy Nexus and Nexus S(our phone! ) are the only two phones getting a version of ICS optimized BY the Google Team.
Huawei take the source from AOSP and fit it to their mediocre phone.
It's an easy choice..
