Hello,
Is it possible to change the default filter in the contact list ?
By default this filter is "All"; I'd like to set it to "personal"
Thank you for your answers.
Regards,
been looking all over and cant find anything for this. it would be great though!
Edit a contact, go to the categories and change it to personal.
The personal will appear at the filters, if you edit another contact and change the category to work, work will also appear in the filter.
Try it out.
we know how to create filters...the problem is, when you open contacts, there is no filter, you see all the contacts. we want to have it so when you open contacts it is already filtered, say the last filter you picked or a default filter like personal or work. going to filter and changing it everytime i want to see a number is annoying
I have already put categories to all my contact.
The only thing I want is to see only personal contact when I open the contact list.
I searched in the registry but i found nothing ...
Nobody can help us ?
sadly i think nobody cares about this pain in the ass problem keep looking...
Yes, please, please, please.... Can anyone shed any light on this?
I too am frustrated that WM6 does not seem to have the ability to "save" the previous filter, or to let the user choose which filter to have as default (rather than having "all" as default, then requiring a manual filter each time)
It is REALLY frustrating having to trawl through ALL the contacts each and every time.
I have many contacts because I work in a few countries, and have categorized my contacts according to country. It would be super if I could "lock" the filter to a category (in my case country), so when I'm in a particular country, I can just view contacts from that country without trawling through all contacts from all countries.
Is there a fix for this? In WM6 itself? In reg? With a .cab? With a third-party software?
Can anyone help? It would be much appreciated.
I would like to have a default filter too... By the way, I am using WM5 (P3600/trinity), and it also shows everything when you get into the contacts. What I do for the time being is put the contacts I want to see everytime in the quick numbers list of the phone.
I know this thread's a couple of weeks old but I've been searching XDA for a solution. The weird thing is that Windows Mobile had the ability to retain a filter (at least until you rebooted) in Windows Mobile 2003. I had this feature on my Audiovox SMT5600 (HTC Tornado, I think) over 3 years ago.
Old thread I know...
Now that its getting close to 2009... anyone find a solution to this problem/annoyance?
Thansk
i am sick of this, i have wm6.1 and there is still same story, filter is returning to all mode...grrr
in lates version is still same thing ?
can anybody help please.....
is there still no solution?
i've cracked everybit till now and havent yet found how to set up a filter to choose only contacts with email addresses - but no success yet.
i recently imported my gmail contacts on my phone and want to send out an invite to all my friends - unfortunately unless i type a contact name, i wouldnt know which other contact exists there.
its getting be a pain..
any luck
Hi All
Sorry to bring this back, but is there a fix for this yet, i too find it a pain, would be much better if you could choose a default filter and not All.
Tom
I'm looking also for a sollution, but Microsoft it's sleeping and dont do nothing about this filter problem... all this years and wm it's the same ****...
There are a couple of good tools on here, both called Group SMS, which allow you to send a single text to multiple contacts, at the same time. The relationship here is one to many.
I am looking for someone to develop a tool to do the opposite, i.e. the ability to select a number of texts to send to a single contact. The relationship here is many to one.
Is anyone interested in taking this challenge on? The preference would be to further develop one of the group SMS tools to be able to accomplish both tasks from within the same tool rather than having to run yet another small program on the PPC. Alternatively it might be useful to develop a tool that can undertake both core functions, ie one to many and many to one.
I run a HTC Tytn, so I am looking for the application to be optimised for use on this device.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Cheers

well you can use threaded sms. it basically gives you a chat style so you can keep typing away.
Sorry Bowlopho, you have completely misunderstood what I want. I don't want to cut & paste into a threaded SMS application, which is what I think you are referring to.
What I want to do is pick up several discreet text messages, all at once, and attach them to a single contact, then send in a one time operation only. I want them to remain as discreet messages when I send them, not blurred into one giant text.
I know exactly what I am looking for. Appreciate your input.
WB
to me sounds like a SMS Bomber with like different messages Yes?
Forgive my ignorance; SMS bomber? Sounds sinister. What does that do?
All I'm looking for is a tool that will let me send several discrete texts to one person in one overall selection process rather than to tediously have to repeat the process for each text message over and over.
The idea is a simple one and is the reverse of the tools already out here that allow one to send a single message to multiple/many contacts.
Thanks
WB
Hiya,
I'll add this to my Pocket SMS Manager, as it should be easy AND someone else requests it.
Pete
Pete,
Good to hear from you. If you are able to blend this into your tool then that would be an excellent result. How long would this take to develop/implement?
PM me if you need more detail in terms of what I am looking for, although it should be sufficiently clear from my posts in here. Incidentally, have not had chance to keep up with developments on your tool. Have you sorted the delays and slow updates, assumed to be caused by Activesync, that I reported to you some time ago?
Let me know.
Cheers
WB

WB -
Please elaborate more about what you want - just so that it's very clear your concept request is understood -
Having the idea scope would be helpful:
* What is the benefit of having this tool
* For what major purpose would it serve
* When you mention chaining a few selected texts together to send to one recipient, can you provide a theoretical example?
If you can provide some more detailed walk-through hypothetical scenarios, it would help me as well.
Thanks,
DSO
IMSMS,
Thanks for the response. I will develop some scenarios and email them to you so you can have a clear idea of what I am looking for.
Thanks

Hi everybody! I'm new from here!
(I'm Italian, if I do mistakes, please correct me!)
I'm developing Android apps since 3-4 days ago and I made 4-5 stupid apps, just to learn.
I don't have an Android Phone yet, anyway taking a look on the emulator AVD I noticed a thing that I'd like to change. It's about the Contacts app, the Contacts list view in particular.
I observed that for any contact in the list is possible to assign, in addition to name and surname, also a Nickname, useful for friends!
Despite this, in the options menu, I haven't seen a sorting and viewing method by nickname!
Is there a way to view, if setted, only the Nickname of the contact and, otherwise, Name and Surname?
If there's not, i would like to write a sort of add-on for the contact list that give the priority at the Nickname. Should be awesome also to set Nickname as a global default name to view, causing that will be displayed also during an incoming call.
How should I do? What do you think about? Suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
Daniel
Ok, I'll edit the Android code directly.
Last question: how to make default an app instead of the default one?
Nice... Have you make any progress on that ?
Hello All,
I sure hope someone can help. Kinda embarrassing to have to ask.
I am new to the G2, and have been a Blackberry user for the last five years, which I always justified because of my business use and needs from my device.
I was told the android system, and the G2, was a good business choice for an upgrade from a blackberry, but now I'm starting to wonder if I should have stuck with a Blackberry.
Can anyone point me in the direction of a good email app or program that will work on the G2? I just experienced the embarrassment of going to business meeting with fellow associates and some clients, where all were watching, as some of my latest email communication from my new G2 (as well as other peoples) where being presented to a large group of people on a slide show for all to see, and as far as mine go from my G2, it looked like a moron had written the emails...........My mistake for not first reviewing my email on a large monitor, but was in a pinch for time, and was trusting the G2 email app.
This is kinda embarrassing for the G2, and the android OS, to have a native email program that is reminiscent of early 1980's technology. Yeah, that's how bad it is.
Here's what I'm looking for and what's needed, (btw was basic to all blackberrys).
> > > Something that will allow the G2 user to compose an email where the user can choose from a good selection of different fonts, and choose several different sizes of fonts, at a minimum> > > Need something that will allow the G2 user to compose an email where the user can choose from a good selection of different fonts, and choose several different sizes of fonts, at a minimum. > > > So that when someone receives it on a standard office monitor, it doesn't look like it was composed by someone who knows nothing about good communication... ..... maybe a stand-alone Application made for Android? preferably something compatible with POP and/or IMAP ? but please no suggestions for some Web-Mail in any form.
Is that asking too much LG/Android, geez? .... If Blackberry was able to do it, shouldn't Android at a minimum be able to produce something equally as good for business users of their product?
Who in business wants to receive an email from the native email application that comes with the G2?...anyone.....anyone?
Please help.......can anyone provide some options that will allow a business G2 user to compose basic, decent emails, that when received by someone who is reading them on basic office desktop monitors they don't look like something that originated in the early 1980's (when programmers where just figuring out how to create scalable fonts and providing basic communication options for email).
... ... ... there must be some good business options out there for all G2 users that are in business and that care about how their email communication comes across to the receiver.
Sorry for the rant, but my brief initial search at Google Play has turned up crap.
I'm sure I am not alone on this issue.
Thank you in advance. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
kind regards,
TahoeRunner

Does anyone know how to sort contacts to last name , first name from first name, last name?
Every android phone I have used its phone>contacts>settings>sorty by> last name
I do not see the sort by in settings now and have scrolled through all the settings and still can't find it.
This is a must for me and I'd hate to think they just removed this setting. I have the verizon model.
Thanks in advance!

bump
Probably related to the verizon model, present on my international at least.
Edit:
Or did you just check it through the phones app? The settings menu stays the same if you just change to the contacts tab there (for phone therefore), you have to open the dedicated contacts app to get its specific settings.
Contacts "Sort by..." not present
My phone is not showing any option to sort contacts by surname (or anything else). I have a S7 SM-G930FD which I've rooted, running Android Marshmallow v. 6.0.1, build no. MMB29K.G930FXXU1APD1. Going to Contacts>More>Settings only gives four options (Import/export contacts; Contacts to display (i.e. account/source); Share multiple contacts; and Service numbers.
Can anyone shed any light?
Incidentally, it's also not showing any of the stock Android ringtones...

I too have the same problem with my unlocked SM-G930FD. Sorting option is missing from Contacts/More/Settings screen and no where else to be seen, e.g. in Apps manager.
I have the same phone as yzfreeman above.
Have contacted supplier and Samsung and await reply!
Still nobody an idea?
I have the same problem and would love to hear a solution. Samsung tech support told me this 930FD software is different than the stock they sell in Germany with only one SIM
Solved it!
Go in the application Contacts (orange icon) not phone.
From there you go to Settings and after that you'll find the setting SortBy.
