Could someone tell me what is the difference I will see in upgrading to 1.5 from 1.0? I know the Almighty Lenn will probably chime in here, he always seems to have the correct answers for me.

If not having any issues with 1.0, is it a need to upgrade? Is it any faster?

Lenn,
As normal you are here for the board. Could you please give me a step by step on how to update...the easiest way? Much props to ya bud!!
Yes I have a problem with updating, I tried with the UrukConfig app but it completely does nothing and then deletes the file. I am in need of help.
This was for all of the urukdroid betas.

Did you update from beta 2 to beta 3?
Anyway,
For downgrade to 1.0:
-Boot up with volume button down
-Recovery System>>Repair Device>>Format Disk
-After the wipe you have to connect your archos to your pc and copy the lastest *.aos file from archos.com (firmware, look under downloads)
-Just install urukdroid 1.0 normally as you did

I updated from 1.0 to 1.5B3 without any steps.
Is there no way to keep all my stuff?

Hm...
there is a way to backup your apps (just the apps no savings) but you need a linux distro to do so
if you have linux do this:
Connect your archos with your pc
Boot with volume down button hold down
Recovery System >> (i think..)Repair Device>>Start Usb MSC
You should see 3 different devices connected to your linux pc
I dont know which it is, but you just should search a directory like "system/app"
In this folder there are all your games apks you can copy these to your pc and do my instructions above..
After that just install the apks on your new urukdroid system

Put it into data/urukupdate
Wait 5-10 minutes
Your archos will reboot and flash the new rootfs

I had exactly the same problem with the launcher. after installing from UD1.0 I re_installed ud1.0 as a completly fresh install as per the UD wiki install instructions, then placed update file as per lenn's instructions. it worked first time after this. keep perservering, I am finding 1.5 is much better, less random reboots and lost wifi.

I'm currently compiling all the various updates for 2.3.4, According to Google, you should get an update to bring you right up to 2.3.4, if you can give me the baseband model, i'll add it to the OTA's that are still missing for 2.3.4

I've added it. BTW, if you don't mind wiping the phone, you can do a stock 2.3.3 image, then upgrade to the .4, links can be found in my first post.
No need to wipe. Just manually apply the 2.3.3 update. Then do the 2.3.4 update manually too.

No problems although you could find your answers on the forum if you searched. But for simplicity...
Here's my instructions for moving from 2.3.2 GRH78C to 2.3.4 GRJ22. (amalgamated from various sources...) Let me know how you go with them.
Charge phone to 80% or more!
1. As you are running 2.3.2 GRH78C first download this to your computer:
http://android.clients.google.com/packages/ota/google_crespo/98f3836cef9e.signed-soju-GRI40-from-GRH78C.98f3836c.zip
2. Plug in your Nexus S to your PC (or mac), switch on USB Storage and copy the file from wherever you saved it to the root of the removable disk (your nexus S)
3. rename the file "update.zip"
4. Disconnect your NS, and shut it down.
5. Holding down the volume up button, press the power button. You should boot into the "bootloader" (big android logo and some options)
6. Use the volume keys to highlight the "recovery" option, then press the power button (it works like a select button here)
7. Your screen will show "google" then a open box and a little android man, then this will turn to an exclamation mark inside a triangle.
8. Press the power and up buttons again, then select "apply update from /sdcard" as before using the up and down keys and the power button
9. select "update.zip" and press the power key - the phone should then update to 2.3.3
10. Once it is completed (check the status bar) select "reboot system now"
11. Complete!
Once your phone reboots you will have 2.3.3. Repeat the same process as above but with this file instead to go to 2.3.4: http://android.clients.google.com/packages/ota/google_crespo/a14a2dd09749.signed-soju-GRJ22-from-GRI40.a14a2dd0.zip
Remember to remove the 2.3.3 "update.zip" from your Nexus S before copying over the 2.3.4 update.zip
Many thanks for the kind reply with details. On number 2 you say to the root. Isn't it just copy and paste ?

Yeah, copy and paste to the "root directory" of the Nexus S internal Flash Storage. (When I say "root" in the instructions I don't mean "root" as in rooting your android phone to enable super user, I mean the "top level directory" of the Nexus S storage)
Hope that's clearer

Haha Ok I'll break it down just to make it clearer (as I didn't quite understand what your last post meant - sorry!)
1. Download the file
2. Copy the file you just downloaded from your pc (copy the file you see on your pc screen that you just downloaded)
3. Paste it onto your Nexus S (in other words, don't put it in any folders!)
4. Follow the rest of the instructions
If this still doesn't make sense I'll try again!
When I tried to apply update, it failed with following message.
Assert failed: apply_patch_check("/system/framework/framework-res.apk". (status 7)
I think the reason is that I have used percentage battery framework. Does anyone know where I could get the 2.3.2 stock framework-res.apk ?
Many thanks,

Please search the forums, this question has been answered many times already (by me and many others).. but as I am nice... follow the instructions posted higher up. As you are on GRH78 you need to use this file to go from 2.3.1 to 2.3.3 instead of the first one posted in my instructions
(2.3.1 GRH78 to 2.3.3 GRI40) http://android.clients.google.com/packages/ota/google_crespo/e0b546c442bf.signed-soju-GRI40-from-GRH78.e0b546c4.zip
then use the later file from my instructions to go from 2.3.3 GRI40 to 2.3.4 GRJ22
Any problems message back...
Many thanks for the kind reply and details. I will update on this as soon as I try it out. I forgot my USB cord at my shop so I can not do this tonight. I have two laptops and tried to do it at my shop today using my Apple MBP but that was useless since I was unable to rename the file on my Apple so I will bring back home the USB cable tomorrow and try again tomorrow.
Freakin Apple won't allow us to rename them files
2.3.3 worked perfectly and the screen turned yellowish as everyone reported. I applied the zip 2.3.4 file and it also worked perfectly. Many thanks for the kind reply and help with details. Aaah that was the problem
You've downloaded the aos file several times
Some PPL on the development forums were asking how to boot $auron's UrukDroid out of bubu's openAOS Boot Menu. Since i can't post there yet, i'll post here.
I looked at bubu's initramfs/init script and it should be fairly easy to boot any partition as well as any rootfs.img.
the menu.lst syntax is:
Code:
{NAME(has to be unique)}|{DEVICE(leave blank for img)}|{IMG}|{INIT}
A special thing is putting 'ARCHOS' into {DEVICE}, because that will boot from ARCHOS' stock SQUASHFS file
so adding this line to menu.txt should let you boot UrukDroid from sdcard
Code:
UrukDoid|/dev/mmcblk2p2||/sbin/init
I have to add, i havn't tried it myself yet, because i haven't put bubu's loader on my A70IT yet.
I would really appreciate you letting me know if it works!
Greetings Oro

First:
Thanks for your work
Would this also work, with on internal installed urukdroid?
You would have to get the device name of your root partition
since mine is a sdcard install i can only provide that information.
but if you can boot into uruk right now you can do the following to get the device node:
Open any terminal emulator and type:
Code:
cat /etc/mtab
then search for
Code:
<device> / <fstype> rw,noatime,barrier=1,nodealloc,....
in my case that is:
Code:
/dev/mmcblk2p2 / ext4 ....
take the first one (<device>) and put it into the menu.lst line:
Code:
UrukDroid|<device>||/sbin/init
still i haven't tested any of this. it's just the result of my looking at the bootloader's init script

I really want to have uruk again, i hate the stock firmware
I know these steps, but is there no way to compile a *.img from uruk?...
i compiled one but these dont worked...
first of all IMO putting Uruk into an image file would be stupid,
second you'd have to either find a way to run the installer on your computer, or ask $auron what exactly it does and put a working rootfs togehter manually or dump an existing thing
your best bet would be to boot openAOS and dd Uruk's Root Partition into some img file. But since you don't know which yout Uruk Root is and i don't either, only thing left would be to ask $auron where he installs it. and if you know that, you can use my method just as well

Nope
if you've got the device node of yout Uruk root you should be able to put it into that menu.lst lint i showed you where <device> is.
Just to mention it, I don't know if $auron provides a working live-initramfs, but if he does you should be able to simply flash that through the sde recovery menu.
by live-initramfs i mean one, that doesn't launch EasyInstall but run UrukDroid directly.

i aksed sauron per pm
Hmm.. how do i explain.
It's like this:
the device node is like a link to the partition.
If you put Uruk on a Partition, you have to tell the bootloader which partition is the right one, the one with Uruk on it.
The bootloader then searches for an init-file there and executes it
so bubu's menu is the bootloader in this case, so you tell him where he has to search for Uruk by putting the right device node into the menu.lst.
hope you understand it a little better now
greetings

Okey, i'll try it and i'll see
another question: any idea how to get the menu booting instead of normal archos android?
(Sde instead of archos, like sauron did at urukdroid)
What exactly do you mean?
Like switching between custom and stock?
That'd be for hold voldown while the archos bootscreen shows up and selecting SDE or Android.
And the SDE entry will launch whatever you put there through the SDE recovery Menu
Greetings

No, he mean booting on it not by going in the recovery menu, just on pushing the "ON" button.

Yep, this will be helpful, when i have urukdroid on my boot menu, because then my normal use will be uruk, until cyanogen is ready for saily use..
Any hints on that?
I don't really know, but doesn't it remember your last choice?

You have to install the OC Kernel by ardatdat here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=897877
Or you install Urukdroid (our only rom) with the OC-Kernel (i think this would be the better option)
What do you want?
I could give you instructions
Well from what I have read I could go upto about 1.2 Ghz to give it a little more zip. Is the rom any good?. Would probably go for the kernel. Ideas?

The rom is very good
but when you just want the kernel..
first: what firmware version do you have?
Now you say the roms good maybe I should give it a go. How much of an improvement is it?

Much
You have EXT4, that makes everything a little faster, you have root (Chainfire for HD games...) and such stuff, you can overclock, and with the libq modifacted kernel from sibere you have a real speed boost
i would try it
Ok will give it a go can you point me at a noob proof tut. Would really like to give it some extra speed.

Here i haved copied the installation instructions for you:
Code:
Step one
Assuming you have already installed SDE from Archos:
Download and extract installation files from archive UrukDroid_1.0-EasyInstall.rar. Inside you should find three files: initramfs.cpio.gz, zImage and UrukDroid-install.tgz
Flash initramfs.cpio.gz and zImage from SDE boot menu:
power on (2) Archos device, hold up/+ volume key (1) until you see "Archos AXXXX - Boot Menu",
choose with Volume +/- (1) "Recovery System"->"Developer Edition Menu"->"Flash Kernel and Initramfs",
connect Archos to PC (5) and copy zImage and initramfs.cpio.gz
press power button (2) shortly, you should see Archos flashing new kernel
if flashed properly, press power button (2) shortly to reboot...
Boot to SDE:
power on (2) Archos, hold up/+ volume key (1) until you see "Archos AXXXX - Boot Menu",
choose "Developer edition"
You should see "UrukDroid 1.0 Installation framework" title. Please choose simple install method. When asked to, connect Archos to PC (5) once again and copy UrukDroid-install.tgz, disconnect Archos from PC properly (umount, safely remove device etc.) and press power button (2) shortly. Now EI will check installation file and prepare it for next step.
Later, you will be also able to choose whether you want to copy /data partition. It's recommended not to - but you have this option. For advanced install method - look below.
After reboot you should see UrukDroid 1.0 boot up screen (if it happens to boot to stock OS, reboot once again and go to "Boot menu", choose "Developer edition").
You should see some progress information on bottom of the screen. For few minutes you will see installation message with progress bar. Few minutes later, after some postinstallation procedures you should see UrukDroid boot animation and shortly after Archos setup wizard.
If with first run "Archos configuration wizard" creates "Force close" errors, please reboot device (hold power button shortly for more than 1 second, this will bring "Power menu" and press power button long until "Reboot" message will appear).
Congratulations! you have just installed UrukDroid
Here is a video how-to:
Thanks, will give it a try later and will post back to let you know how I get on.

Are you sure you downloaded the correct files? You want to use Urukdroid 1.0, not 0.7. The link is here: http://sauron.pourix.com/UrukDroid/UrukDroid-1.0/UrukDroid_1.0-Install.rar
The install instructions are here: http://code.google.com/p/urukdroid/wiki/Installation
It shouldn't take more than fifteen minutes from the point of having the SDE installed, to having Uruk fully running.
Well your probably right, don't think I started with 1.0 . I started with the easy installer but I think it was 0.5. Do you think this is the problem?. Will give it another try later with 1.0, is your link to the easy installer version?.

You said it was an A101, right? It should work fine. What method are you using to install? Easy or Advanced? Do you have an SDcard in the slot? When you tried with 1.0, what was your exact procedure. In other words, more details please...
Could you tell me how to OC 1.2 with Uruk 1.0 ?
Hi,
I'm new here and new with Android too . I'm a PC guy. I've had Urukroid 1.0 installed in my Archos now (in internal). I'd like OC to 1.2 GHz but I don't know how to do it with OC kernel by ardatdat. Can you show me? Thanks!

The ardatdat kernel is not compatible with Uruk, that's why he said either/or. As of a couple days ago though, there is a new alpha OC kernel for Uruk: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1017593/ArchosGEN8/UrukDroid-1.1/UrukDroid-1.1RC1-kernelOC.tbz2
