Ok just great now volume keys are working when they want to work..
Don't mean to bump but I am having the same issue and same results.
Home button could be stuck.

I'm pretty sure the home button + power would boot it into safe mode. It's more likely the volume rocker is stuck, so every time you boot up it thinks volume down is pressed and goes to hboot.
Try fiddling around with the volume buttons and see if they're sticky or something. You could also try taking the phone apart, and checking it out, but I feel like that's extra work.

I've read tons of supposed n00b guides that just say to boot the phone by pressing camera+power, but when I do that, I just get a logo of a phone with a warning symbol.
Either the walkthroughs are all missing a step (like what to press)
or my phone is jacked up.
also, is there a complete n00b walkthrough?
I got my phone yesterday, and all the walkthroughs seem to skip stuff, or assume you know stuff (like they'll say "boot into the bootloader" but assume you know how to do that. It's probably cause most people here all got the phone when it came out. but there are some new users who just got the phone)
thanks
Are you sure you held in power and cam? Sounds like you held in power and home. Just hold in cam and power until a rainbow screen comes up and it will tell you there. Thats assuming you haven't rooted yet and applied hardspl
thanks. I had a bad camera button. I had to hold it SUPER had. but it worked

Cool glad it worked.
I bought this MyTouch 3G version 32b phone for $ 20 on craigslist to learn about rooting etc (I don't want to sacrifice my MyTouch 4G for that LOL). I guess this phone was a rooting attempt gone bad. No matter what I do, which button combination I use, it goes into hboot/fastboot. I checked the volume rocker button possibly being stuck by disassembling the phone and noticed that there were 2 - 8GB microSD cards on top of each other in the microSD card slot. One of them is readable (the one that was stuck on top), the other one won't get recognized when I use my microSD card adapter in my computer. I noticed also that the moisture detectors in the phone are all pink which I assume is NOT a good thing LOL. From what I have learned by reading posts on here and other websites I need to install a new rom on the phone to make it work again (if that is even possible). The phone is not being recognized by windows when I connect it with a USB cable to my computer, the SD card won't show up at all. Shall I accept that this phone is bricked and stop wasting my time on it or do you think there is something I can do to make it work again? Thank you so much for your help !!

When I power it on, it goes through some sd card checks, at least that is what it looks like. I took the phone apart again and noticed that the volume button flex cable is broken, could that be the reason why it is acting up?
I GOT IT FIXED !! Actually, I completely disconnected the volume up/down flex cable from the board and put the phone back together. VOILA, it booted right up. It seems to be working so far, at least from what I can see. Maybe this will help others who have the same issue. It could be a hardware issue such as a broken flex cable. THE PHONE IS NOT BRICKED and once I get a replacement volume flex cable, I'm ready to root and play around with it, yes !!
First of all I'm sorry if this is in the wrong section. I can't for the life of me find a section specifically for the myTouch Q so i usually just go ahead to the glacier thread.
But My phone is bricked. It loads the LG and myTouch Screen, then goes to the lock screen (draw pattern) But i cant touch the screen at all. The background is black, and its a matter of minutes before shutting off again and repeating the cycle.
I know that going into bootloader will solve my problem but the phone has no physical buttons. So I cant hit any buttons for a factory reset. I checked all over the internet but cant find any good info on the Q and its touch bottons.
Sorry buddy, but your right , this is the wrong forum. Are you sure there is no hard way to get into the bootloader ?

I have no idea. I can't use the phone at all since I cant do anything at lock screen. I was thinking that there would be another way for bootloader maybe by usb or a software but nothing.

What do you mean? does the Q not ship with physical buttons? I doubt that, but I havnt looked at the phone much. Or do you mean ur physical buttons are broken?
IF they are broken u are most likely out of luck, unless u can hold down the power button for that menu to pop up. then u can press reboot and press bootloader or recovery. That is, IF the rom supports it.
also u never stated if the phone was rooted and had a custom rom. that would make a huge help
The phone has pressure sensitive buttons unlike the MY4G. So the Menu, Power, Volume factory reset is i think not usable
It's rooted but doesnt have a custom rom. I am using another launcher though if that helps
never mind I found out. It's a little different for this phone
cant provide url to page but thanks
Just when I got interested, he bailed! The suspense is gonna make me Google it myself!

I woke up this morning and my phone will not boot. It automatically boots into the bootloader (hboot) and the up/down (volume keys) wont move the cursor to allow me to get to the recovery option. Also if I try to boot into recovery using the hard button combo it vibrates 3 times and the led turns to green, then it just sits/never gets to recovery. Since hboot is looking for the PDimg file I figure I could use this file to revert to stock but I was hoping someone here might have a better answer.
If not can someone let me know how to go about flashing with a PD15img file and where I can find a copy?
Thanks guys
Sounds like your volume button is stuck

Nope because it knows when I'm using them to try to go straight to recovery also the power button cannot be used to select either but it works to turn the phone one. They just stop working in hboot.
A constantly pressed button will of course also react when you're trying to boot directly to recovery. The phone doesn't "know" anything.
Another option is a stuck trackpad.
If all else fails you might try to reflash recovery and or Hboot, it never hurts to try from a clean install.

I think you guys are misunderstanding the point. This has nothing to do with the buttons. My issue is when I turn my phone on (by hitting the power button once) the phone will only boot into hboot. Once in hboot none of the keys (power or volume) work. If I try to boot directly into recovery by holding vol up/down + power; the phone will viberate 3 times and the LED lights up green. It then just sits on a blacklit black screen and does nothing else.
I am looking for eirther; Anyone that has ever had this issue and may be able to shed some light onto why it happened. Which by the way was completly random, I shut the phone off before going to sleep and woke up too it viberating like crazy then when I tried to turn it back on; this is what happened.
Or the answer to this question; How do I install a rom from hboot? Can I just install any rom as a "update" by using the method of naming it PD15IMG? Since it does search for this file when I have a sd card in at boot. But if my memory serves me correct it will ask; "Would you like to install this update?" and if my hard buttons do not work and I cannot click yes than what else can I do?
Thanks for all the help guys!!!!

And I think you can't read. You've been told in 3 posts that the phone boots directly to HBOOT because EITHER A VOLUME DOWN BUTTON OR A TRACKPAD BUTTON IS STUCK, ON ELECTRICAL LEVEL - THE CONTACTS ARE ALWAYS CLOSED. And THERE'S NOTHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT ON SOFTWARE/FLASHING LEVEL. You need to fix what's broken, and you've been told what's broken. Patience isn't one of my skills. Good luck from here.

I do thank you for your help but you may want to aquire some patience if you plan to continue helping people... since people in need of help are most likely confused.
Thanks though :highfive:
Im my experience Jack_R1's answers are always right and are the answer to your question. If you think otherwise one of two things is happening.
1) You did not explain your problem thoroughly.
2) You need to examine his post(s) more closely.
He has zero tolerance for stupidity or ignorance due to laziness (i.e. not searching). I'm not trying to speak for him or defend him or anything else. He's grown and quite capable of handling all that. The man just knows the answer and gets to the damn point.
I wish we had more people around here like him.

Hey there, guys. I was rooting my friend's Mytouch 4G, and all was going well. I was able to downgrade and then it was time to root. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=858996 I followed this guide. To the very end, it seemed like the phone was going fine and then I restarted. I tried booting up, but I would get a flashing orange LED. If I hit volume button down and power, I get a steady green light. I'm hoping I can somehow recover the phone. There are multiple solutions posted up, it seems. One being to leave the battery out so I'm going to do that while I go to sleep and hope for the best. But I'm up for suggestions.

If you can't boot into the bootloader your phone may be dead. So holding Volume down and Power gets you nowhere?

That makes it vibrate and the LED becomes a green light instead. It's a shame, I followed the steps exactly.
