Recomended overclock procedure - Galaxy 3 General

Can someone advise me on the quickest, easiest and most relaiable procedure to overclock my sg3
sent from rooted samsung gt-i5800 froyo

Ps. Im already rooted and have set cpu apk and as far as im aware i just need an overclockable kernal. I just need info on how and what to flash. Im familiar with flashing roms as i have flashed froyo myself but i dont know much about kernals
sent from rooted samsung gt-i5800 froyo

Ok so you need to chek out either fugumod or g3mod kernels you can choose the versions there, as for installing flash the .tar as one package like you flashed froyo, you wont lose data or something
Sent from my GT-I5800 using XDA App

So do i need to download the tar file and then flash it into the phone with odin. If so then it isnt as hard as i thought
sent from rooted samsung gt-i5800 froyo

Yes, and after that you can change the values in setcpu

i recommend the Fugumod kernel i've tried FuguMod 2.4 beta3
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=997367&highlight=fugumod
and now i'm using the Pre Release of Fugumod Ultra

Voodoo lagfix, following the detailed instructions via project-voodoo.org, has been troublefree for me.

Works like a charm...
what app/method do you use to root the device on 2.2?

You can't use voodoo update.zip on froyo - check the voodoo homepage and use beta 5 pre 6 via ODIN.
need to be very careful with these things or you will end up with a brick.
(Fwiw its saying that because you are on 3e not 2e - still not the right process for voodoo tho)

as dckiwi said please be very careful
you need to use Installation on Windows (For Voodoo on Android 2.2 AKA Froyo
see link here:

Don't panic, same thing happened to me. I'm no expert either however a research found the culprit. voodoo on 2.1! For some reason when updated to Froyo you can no longer do recovery zip updates cos of the voodoo kernel.
Go over to xda development and you will find a thread with a kernel that will fix recovery (do you can run voodoo again) as well as root 2.2
You will have to use odin which freaked me out at first but it's really easy

So, which full lagfix (one that converts all partitions, including /system) is better for JPO? "Universal"? The one that makes 340 mb ram visible? Which? I've kinda lost track of all those fixes.
I have JPO with the TouchWiz Mod and the 341mb optimized speedmod kernel. I have no lag whatsoever. The phone never felt so smooth, not even with voodoo on Eclair. Just my two cents.
Jpo + oclf + cf root.

Im very disappointed!!

Oh, too bad. My epic runs super fast at 1.6 ghz. With absolutely no problems. This epic CPU should do 1.8ghz with no issues. Can't wait! I noticed the stock sprint blue water live wallpapers rippled so much smoother at 1.6 compared at 1ghz. Beautiful powerful phone compared to the Htc lineup like the htc evo snapdragon. where is this diversity s kernel you speak of? a quick search and i no findie.
I have a question somewhat pertaining to this. I want to overclock, so I was thinking of flashing a custom ROM. I created a ROM of my system as-is, with the stock ROM. If I wanted to flash my backup ROM and get rid of the new one with a different kernel, will I be able to just flash my backup, or do I have to flash the stock kernel before I flash the ROM back?
Probably a stupid question, but I am slow, so better to ask than mess up my phone.

aye, its better to ask than brick, but even BETTER to search! but i wont be a total douche, if you backed up your phone with cwm, restoring your backup will restore EVERYTHING on your phone as it was when you backed up, kernel included, so no need to flash a stock kernel back first. did you backup with clockworkmod recovery or a backup app?

Help speeding up my SGS.

Heya, guys.
I'm Angelo. Nice to meet you all.
First of all, I want to say Congratulations to all the people who built this website up.
THere's my issue now:
I got a Samsung Galaxy S on the 22nd of December, so it's kinda new, already updated to Froyo 2.2 firmware version (factory) I9000XXJPP build RSJP5
Rooted with Z4Root and Lagfixed with Ryanza's OneClickLagFix v2.2, I also modified the schedule (I've set deadline with tweaks instead of the default cpq).
I'm not good at all with all those roms and kernels stuff, Odin... Doesn't sound "safe" for me, don't want to toss it after three weeks.
I tried to speed up my phone, it went from 952 to 1857, but I don't see any changes, only at the start when I boot the phone, it loads faster.
Could you guys help me with this stuff out? I'd like to avoid to flash my phone, just to point this out.
Thanks in advance, Angelo.

If you are rooted then you might as well download a ROM that can be flashed using Recovery Mode.
Download [ROM] [11.01.2011] Darky's v8.0 Gingerbread Edition ★ JPY ★

I recommend flashing any custom JPY rom, 2.2.1 is night and day compared to 2.2, very fast, also recommend using Hardcores Speedmod kernel as well, make sure to disable your lagfix,(oclf does not work in hardcores) and use the ext4 lagfix from Hardcores kernel...
All you really have to do is flash your rom of choice in recovery, then flash your kernel, in recovery as well, and then apply your lagfix.. check your rom of choices thread, most come with instructions on installing

If you check the threads for the ROMs you'll see very detailed install guides that the chefs have put together. You will probably need to use Odin for some steps so get the right drivers and read up on that (it's all here in the stickies or in General).
That's why it's always good to do lots of reading before posting
The best ROM available at the moment IMO, in terms of speed, customizability, and the best support community, it's Doc's Kichen.
Put together your ROM at www.romkitchen.org.
Check his thread for the instructions and if you need help. You won't be disappointed

Since you are running Froyo currently, you must first copy your desired ROM to your SD card, and then flash a kernel that has ClockWork build in (such as Voodoo or Hardcore). Then you can simply reboot into recovery (volume up + home + power) and install the ROM from the SD card. That's about all there is to it If you have problems you can use the "clean install method" of flashing back to Eclair with pit but this is rarely necessary.
Using Doc's ROM is really the way to go, you get great choices of launchers, kernels, themes, modems, so you can make it just how you want it without having to waste time changing/installing things afterwards.

Either way, the procedure is basically the same. We could go back and forth all day
With Doc's online kitchen you can have Voodoo 5.1 with his awesome sound work ready to go right out of the box (hmm that idiom doesn't really work with ROMs does it )

Sorry bud, but there is no way to flash a kernel without Odin unless you have clockwork already. Which you don't if you're on an official Froyo release that has 3e recovery (clockwork can't be used unless you change kernels with Odin).
Flashing with Odin is easy, go into download (volume down + home + power), plug into PC, open up Odin, press PDA, and browse to the .tar of your kernel (such as Voodoo or Hardcore) that you downloaded. Press start and watch the magic happen. This is covered in great detail in many threads, plz look around

ROM Manager is not recommended for most SGS ROMs. In addition, it is likely to cause problems with Froyo ROMs with 3e recovery that don't like unsigned zips.

I agree PW GB is very good except when I try to play 3d games (Guerrilla Bob) the touch screen freezes and does not allow any movement.
I currently have a rooted vibrant my buddy has a fascinate it has been ota updated to 2.2.1 is there a root method or do I need to Odin his phone back to eclair? Just use the guide I posted in the 2nd link. It will put his phone on powerwashed ed05 2.2.2 froyo. It's basically a stock rom thats already rooted, debinged, debloated, otb fusion 1.6 voodoo kernal...etc. No point in just rooting anymore with these enhanced stock roms that ccompos put together for us.
Thanks will do

I did this on my Fascinate. I went from Super Clean 2.8 back to stock, OTA updated to Verizon 2.2 and then Odin'd Powerwash Gingerbread 2.0 beta 3. No complaints here, PWGB is great!

thats because the version of cwm you are running supports ext4 only, not rfs that powerwashed gingerbread is built on. Make sure you have cwm 2.5.1.x red recovery. There is no need to go all the way back to eb01. the stock ed05 package is fine.
