1.6 is the highest currently. Doubt anyone is going to push Eclair higher, everyones moving onto developing for FroYo.

Oh, too bad. My epic runs super fast at 1.6 ghz. With absolutely no problems. This epic CPU should do 1.8ghz with no issues. Can't wait! I noticed the stock sprint blue water live wallpapers rippled so much smoother at 1.6 compared at 1ghz. Beautiful powerful phone compared to the Htc lineup like the htc evo snapdragon. Snapdragon is just a paper tiger.cool name but no guts.

where is this diversity s kernel you speak of? a quick search and i no findie.

I have a question somewhat pertaining to this. I want to overclock, so I was thinking of flashing a custom ROM. I created a ROM of my system as-is, with the stock ROM. If I wanted to flash my backup ROM and get rid of the new one with a different kernel, will I be able to just flash my backup, or do I have to flash the stock kernel before I flash the ROM back?
Probably a stupid question, but I am slow, so better to ask than mess up my phone.

aye, its better to ask than brick, but even BETTER to search! but i wont be a total douche, if you backed up your phone with cwm, restoring your backup will restore EVERYTHING on your phone as it was when you backed up, kernel included, so no need to flash a stock kernel back first. did you backup with clockworkmod recovery or a backup app?

It does not backup the kernel. Flash the kernel of your backup and then do the nandroid restore

I did the clockwork backup. So if I go download the stock kernel from the brick thread, than I can just flash the kernel with odin, then do a restore with the backup I made?
Thanks guys.

I use cwm to flash back to stock. Kernel and everythings gets put back in place again.i never have used odin. Cwm does a fair job.

When I upgraded to the dk17 kernel, under About Phone info, it says 2.6.32.9. Shouldnt it be a different number?

1.3 Ghz is the highest overclock, the 1.6ghz are fakes. Yes you will get benchmarks scores that appear higher, but it is not real. Get a stopwatch and time how long it takes Quadrant to finish with 1.2 ghz compared to 1.6Ghz, interesting that the 1.2 Ghz is faster huh?

Downgrade from 2.1 to 1.5

Can't we just begin a Flash of the latest 2.1 leak onto the device and find a point in the middle where we remove the battery causing the device to lose the build number. This would allow it to put 1.5 on because it has no build number and would assume 1.5 is an upgrade...
Has anyone tried anything like this?
It may be a dumb idea that will just brick the phone.
As far as I know this would just brick your phone
would result in a brick.

I tried the battery pull on my Eris during a flash. Didn't work for me maybe I pulled it out at wrong point.
I think the boooader is still newer so it would only allow me to flash a same or newer image.

there is a rooted 1.5 i used to go from 2.1 o 1.5. its here on the forum and works great!

My experiance was that the phone woulndn't boot, but i could get to recovery. After the battery pull, during a flash. Maybe pulled at the wrong point to brick the phone. I was on leak v2

wait.....what??
I would STRONGLY advise against pulling your battery during a flash.
A few individuals tried this for us while we were trying to find a downgrade and we ended up with a few bricks and NO successes, so the chances are pretty high that you WILL BRICK IF YOU DO THIS.
Downgrade from 2.1 to 1.5
I'm sure we would all love to know how to do that

You mean you had a rooted 1.5 then loaded a 2.1 rom then loaded a 1.5 rom i assume? Since 2.1 isn't rooted yet so you can't go from 2.1 to 1.5.
I think Failure is confused, and is confusing others in the process. Use identifiers like 2.1leak or 2.1root to avoid misunderstandings in these threads that are viewed by both leakers and rooters. I think he meant he has 2.1root and either went back to 1.5stock or 1.5root.

Yeah. I tend to be a pretty heavy lurker in the 2.1leak root project threads and don't remember anyone saying that there was a downgrade available. I'd have been all over that in a heartbeat.

hes slightly mistaken
as 11BE-5 mentioned, that downgrade is from ROOTED 2.1 to 1.5. there is no downgrade for leakers.
Would there be anyway to get another 2.1 3rd party ROM on there? I have a friend with a 2.1 Eris that was updated via RUU from someone internally at Verizon. Tried to flash it back to 1.5 and the RUU would say it couldn't communicate with the phone after a minute or so once it started trying to flash. The 2.1 ROM isn't a root ROM, so is there anyway to go back to 1.5??

Are we still on 2.1 kernel? Does it matter?

Ok, so I was sitting here with birdman's new FlyX ROM loaded and I was all happy. Them of course I had to go and start thinking.
I know we have loaded 2.2 by using koush's recovery. And I think I understand that the recovery starts things at a super low level and then switches us to the 2.2 kernel and everything loads as 2.2.
So, my question: Do we need to load the OTA when it hits? It seems to me that it would be better to have the bar kernel loading and them just make higher level changes.
Thoughts? Discussion?
If u installed the leaked 2.2 u have 2.2 kernel with jit disabled

Hey, I have yet to see anyone show proof that it neither DOES or DOESN'T have JIT enabled.....
Care to share your thought on why you believe it isn't??? Thanks.

I need to go back and reread how I loaded it to agree here. This makes sense if we were able to load it properly with signatures and everything.
EDIT: Ok, I stand corrected, or clarified, by sp1kez. I re-read what I did to get 2.2 installed and the 2.2 OTA leak is a full update of everything it updates both the baseband and the system!

i'm running myn's with one of netarchy's kernels and i'm having trouble with it, too. i have a feeling you might even need to reflash to a stock kernel, upgrade, then flash back to whatever you use daily.
it would be pretty sweet if some one made flashable ZIP's to download through ROM Manager *clockwork*that would update these kind of things!

Flashing something like Mikfroyo also flashes a stock kernel as well.

update profile just sets up your phone to authenicate with the EVDO channels. Once it is done you do not need to do it again unless you wipe out your data settings some how.
Prls are stored in a different location then what a flashable zip could touch from what I understand.
Yeah i think your right, I was assuming*mistake* that it was similiar to flashing updated radios... curious as to know why though*just wondering for personal knowledge
If u flash eng-pc36img, it will put your prl back to 60662. If we could put newest prl in that....rcdata I think
Anyone else have a 01115 prl?
Strange to me.

You got lucky with a 2.2
www.unrevoked.com should work for you.

Because there is still not a method to gain root access on 2.3
The good thing is you can root your phone.
Unrevoked has a linux tarball to root your phone http://unrevoked.com/recovery/
Once rooted, you can flash unrevoked forever to have permanent S=OFF ( and it's reversible if required) You will flash this from the custom recovery that you just installed.
Then, go get ROManager so if you want, you can use Amon_RA recovery (if you want)
what is the difference between clockwork recovery and amon_ra recovery any benifits

A lot of people complain about Rom manger and cwm. Amon ra seems to work well with less problems. And roms that depends on what you like sense or asop. Newest sense is synergy(that is a team effort by the top devs) with sense 2.1 with some 3.0 mixed in( stock kernel so far on that) and as for asop I hear cm7 or kings(but that depends on personal taste).

VaelPak. 3.2 if you want FroYo, 4.0/AOSP if you want AOSP. Link in my sig.
So for the newest OTA do the old methods still work? I assumed Unrevoked didn't and didn't see any threads.
I guess it doesn't. Oh well. No root for co-worker.

Ps. Im already rooted and have set cpu apk and as far as im aware i just need an overclockable kernal. I just need info on how and what to flash. Im familiar with flashing roms as i have flashed froyo myself but i dont know much about kernals

Ok so you need to chek out either fugumod or g3mod kernels you can choose the versions there, as for installing flash the .tar as one package like you flashed froyo, you wont lose data or something

So do i need to download the tar file and then flash it into the phone with odin. If so then it isnt as hard as i thought
sent from rooted samsung gt-i5800 froyo
Yes, and after that you can change the values in setcpu
i recommend the Fugumod kernel i've tried FuguMod 2.4 beta3
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=997367&highlight=fugumod
and now i'm using the Pre Release of Fugumod Ultra
