My 3G Xoom is my first android device. With help from all the great developers I have been able to root. I am currently on Launchpad 1.3 gemini which I love. I do want to get the update to 3.2 but now I am confused as to what to do.
I have read that Launchpad has teamed up with Tiamat. My question is there going to be some Kernal that will allow the 3g users to get 3.2? Tiamat is coming out with all these updates I feel that maybe I am behind. Do I need to just wait?

The newest Tiamat Roms do indeed support the 3G Xooms. Launchpad 1.3 is a kernel for the Xoom, not a custom Rom. It sounds like you are on the stock 3.1 Rom with the Launchpad kernel. Follow the steps I have provided, and follow what the quote below states if you want know a little more additional info.
Step 1: Back up all apps with their data via the Titanium Backup app. Reboot into recovery. Wipe data. Install Tiamat 1.1 Rom:
Titanium Backup on the market
Tiamat 1.1 (HC 3.1)
Step 2: Wipe data again. Install Tiamat 2.1 Hammerhead Rom:
Tiamat 2.1 (HC 3.2)
Step 3: Restore all apps with their data via Titanium Backup.
Step 4: (Optional): Install the overclocked GPU Tiamat kernel:
Tiamat "Tachi" OC GPU kernel (HC 3.2)
From there you should be ready to go with your new Tiamat Honeycomb 3.2 Rom!
And if you need any additional help, let me know, or you can post your question in the appropriate thread that you are having the problem with in the links I have provided above. They are the official Tiamat threads.

You could flash the Tiamat Rom 1.1 which is for 3.1 (but you will need to wipe (it's a rom) and then flash the manta ray which will get you the 3.2 update, and preserve your root. I love it with the "tachi" kernel. From there you could flash the Hammerhead rom or just hang out with the Manta Ray for a while...It is shark week, right?
EDIT: On edit, I see that Team Tiamat has labeled their Manta Ray rom obsolete, so I guess the progression should be directly fromTiamat Rom 1.1 (for HC3.1) to Hammerhead Rom 2.1. Just load these files onto your sdcard, get into recovery , wipe/factory reset, flash 1.1, reboot, get back to recovery, wipe/factory reset, flash 2.1, reboot and hopefully Win1!
Does that sound about right? Oh and the tachi kernel (non-oc gpu) is included with the 2.1 Hammerhead Rom, but you can flash the oc gpu version over the rom if you like.

Sounds right! And yeah, I was going to tell him to skip the Manta Ray Rom completely and go straight to Hammerhead, which is why I put optional in parenthesis, I was debating that.
I'll do some editing for him. Make it one nice post. Thanks, like always!

Hi everyone,
Which would be the best (most stable for daily use) ROM+Kernel combination?
From what I've read, I'm favoring Virtuous Picasso+UnityV3. If I apply it from a fresh install (factory wipe, dalvik, cache), will the issues (wifi dhcp, gps) appear?
Thanks and great work to the devs!
I use Virtuous Picasso with Thor's kernel, but good luck finding it. It's very stable and I have not had a single reboot yet. I have not tried too many kernels yet either. Reason, why switch if it works great.
For me, it is the Virtuous Picasso 1.0.8 ASUS Rom + thor's 1.1 beta2 kernel. Smooth, fast, worry free...
One big plus is that the ExternalSD is accessible when connected to PC!

How about VP 1.0.8 with Unity?
+1 for thor's kernel with galaxy ROM. The kernel is the best part, not a single reboot or issue since switching to it

Minimalist 3.2.1 ROM.
Built on custom modified Tiamat Xoom 2.1 ROM and HoneyVillain 2.5 kernel. No screenshots available. Just imagine or look up what the Xoom's UI looks like.
Download the ROM here.
Instead of doing a mega-patch, I've just decided to upload the numerous enhancements and fixes as an entire new ROM.
Kernel sources will be available here - https://github.com/anarchron/Iconia_a500_3.1
Thank you for posting a new rom, though a more detailed guide of what is included/not and some screen shots would be excellent. Thank you.
What is this based on? Stock Asus?
EDIT: But also, thankyou for putting in the effort!
Just wondering, since you didn't mention it in detail in the first post.
Did you include honeyvillain 2.5 kernel?
Stock Xoom 3.2 with modified HoneyVillain kernel.
any chance of some screen shots?
also, what apps are included/excluded?
thank you.
ROM is working very well here, thank you for the effort you've put in.
I decided to be a bit cheeky and see if it would work upgrading from HoneyVillain (3.1 Acer base) without a data wipe, and it worked fine. If I come across any issues though I'll be sure to wipe before complaining.
Downloading......seems very interesting specially the fix of the portrait mode....
Thanks

First feedback - will it work with Richardtrip's stock 2.5 kernel without your modifications? And if not - could you enable overclocking in your kernel? You've got it set to a maximum of 1ghz it seems.

It won't work on the stock kernel. I made a mistake earlier and left out the over clocking function. I'm currently rebuilding the kernel and preparing a patch to enable overclocking.
To fully comply with GPL stuff, I will be forking the HoneyVillain kernel source sometime later this week. I have yet to figure out the subtleties of github.

just flashed ... seems to be most stable 3.2 for now ...
will try some apps and stuff to see if it will be still stable
well ...
i have one request: can u offer a patch to bring back german language?
Google Account Sign-In
I keep getting a 'Google Account sign-in failure' when I try to set up my gmail account. I've performed a full wipe and initially I flashed the rom and then I immediately flashed the oc patch. On the second attempt I wiped again and just installed the rom and both times I get the same error. Any help would be great!
Disregard that last message, it seems to be working now. Odd...
I just got my A500. I'm running the stock ROM, rooted, and it's working fine for me. I don't really see a reason for me personally to flash a custom ROM. However, I would like to have the ability to OC, and would like some of the other tweaks that come with a custom kernal.
My question is: If I flash RichardTrip's custom kernal, will I be able to update to the Acer OTA 3.2 update when it becomes available? Or will I have to flash back to a stock kernal, update, then re-flash the custom kernal?
Thanks for any help.

That's a good question because I also want to keep my custom rom but flash a OC kernel on my tablet. Where did you find the OC kernel because i have been struggling to find kernel anywhere.
You can find kernals here on XDA that will allow you to OC. For example, Richardtrip's kernal: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1170319
It's my understanding that once you flash this kernal (or Thor's, for example) you can download an overclocking tool from the market, such as Tegrak or CPU Master, which allows you to set CPU speed, voltages, etc.

OK I got the kernel but now how do I flash it to my stock from. I can't seem to find a how to anywhere. They make finding how to do these things so hard.
Basically to flash the custom kernel you need to load the kernel onto your external SD card or USB. Then reboot into CWM recovery, and select "install zip from SD card". Choose the correct zip, and it will flash it.
Here's a tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1205204

if you are running stock either 3.0 or 3.0.1 make sure you have the correct thor or richardtrip kernel. The current versions of both kernels only work for 3.2 roms, you need to download an older version.

Where can I find the correct kernels for the 3.0? I looked on http://xda.richardtrip.org/Acer/a500/kernel/ however it doesn't say if its for 3.0 or 3.2.
Anyone know a direct download link to a list of kernels to include the one for overclocking on custom 3.0 rom
Get version 2.5 of richardtrip's kernel from the link you posted earlier. That's the latest of the HC 3.1 kernels. The kernels version 3.0 and above are for the 3.2 ROM.

@ shambooi ...
You need to practice thoroughly reading on these things to prevent seriously your device...
as this was quoted at that kernel thread...
"As of 3.0 this is only for Honeycomb 3.2. For an older version of this kernel to use on HC 3.0/3.1 check here: http://xda.richardtrip.org/Acer/a500/kernel/"
You obviously saw the link to to kernel list... but completely missed what preceded that link...
Back to my original question... I'm now running richardtrip's HoneyVillian kernel 2.5 on my stock 3.1 ROM. When 3.2 comes out OTA, will I be able to update it as is, or do I have to revert to the stock kernel?
Thanks.
Test this
Look for the older stock rom version before latest release like for us end with. 07 or 11.
Flash your tab to that.I believe the kernel will stifll flash to that.do so then try to update.
Read read read and try at your own risk of course.
Does it work?

I think that what he was getting at is that you really need to read before you act. In the "Iconia A500 Android Development" section under richardtrip post called "[KERNEL] Stock/HV/Taboonay V3.4 for HC 3.2 10-09 - 1.64Ghz/UV control", in the post #2 you will find the changelog for Richardtrip's kernel. From the changelog you can readily find out that the last kernel that supported the 3.01 rom was V1.7. Version 1.8 to 2.5 are for the 3.1 rom, and versions 3 and up are for the 3.2 rom.
It's all there for the reading.
Jeff.
I was a little surprised to see that there were no OC'd kernels to add-on to the stock IML77 official Google ROM that I've been playing around with. So, I set up a linux install and an android build environment so I could make some hybrid boot images combining the kernels from the latest (1/15/12) Team EOS and Cyanogenmod 9 ROMS with the stock ramdisk to use to fastboot on to my IML77 build.
I strongly suggest if you are going to try this to boot into Recovery and take a nandroid backup of your boot partition so that you can have that to fastboot back on your Xoom in the event that something goes wrong here. I take no responsibility if things go south for you.
to use, download the boot image of your choice to the same folder as your fastboot binary and run "fastboot flash boot CM9_stock_hybrid_boot.img" or "fastboot flash boot EOS_stock_hybrid_boot.img" depending on the kernel of your choosing.
Team EOS (Tiamat) 2.6.39.4 kernel: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/28227060/EOS_stock_hybrid_boot.img
Team EOS (Tiamat) 2.6.39.4 kernel mirror: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/28227060/stock-IML77_boot.img
Team Rogue (CM9) 2.6.39.4 kernel: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/28227060/CM9_stock_hybrid_boot.img
Team Rogue (CM9) 2.6.39.4 kernel mirror: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/28227060/stock-IML77_boot.img
In case you did not heed my warning above and need a stock IML77 boot image, here's the one I pulled from my system.
stock boot image: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/28227060/stock-IML77_boot.img
stock boot image mirror: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/28227060/stock-IML77_boot.img
One last thing, I take no credit for any of the kernel work (Thanks goes to Team EOS and Team Rogue for that!) only putting it together into a boot image that's usable with the official stock Google IML77 ROM.
Hmmmm....... not sure what to make of this or what to say. I can say that without some modifications this will break init.d, CIFS, and USB OTG on our kernel. In the meantime anyone is welcome to check out or use our git, or wait until we release our ICS kernel which should be soon....

Yep, 3g all good
And yes, I am missing many apps from the Marketplace, I think this is due to the ro.fingerprint values contained in the build.prop (can't confirm until I solve the issue though).
