Hi everyone,
Which would be the best (most stable for daily use) ROM+Kernel combination?
From what I've read, I'm favoring Virtuous Picasso+UnityV3. If I apply it from a fresh install (factory wipe, dalvik, cache), will the issues (wifi dhcp, gps) appear?
Thanks and great work to the devs!
I use Virtuous Picasso with Thor's kernel, but good luck finding it. It's very stable and I have not had a single reboot yet. I have not tried too many kernels yet either. Reason, why switch if it works great.
For me, it is the Virtuous Picasso 1.0.8 ASUS Rom + thor's 1.1 beta2 kernel. Smooth, fast, worry free...
One big plus is that the ExternalSD is accessible when connected to PC!
taboonay for incremental update
honeyvillain for be close as real acer

No, no, no, you got it all wrong.

How about VP 1.0.8 with Unity?
+1 for thor's kernel with galaxy ROM. The kernel is the best part, not a single reboot or issue since switching to it

Love it lol. Asus 1.0.8 and thor v1.1 beta 2 for me right now also galaxy 1.0.2 with thor v1.1 beta2 for that rom. Better overall in each especially on 1080p video playback. His kernel wipes the floor with that bourne ultimatum hd trailer lol

Hi, anyone want to engage in a discussion of the differences between the new Acer-based 3.1 Honeycomb ROMs??
We've got Dexter's Aconia ROM, Virtuous Picasso 1.0.5+, HoneyVillain, and maybe some others too. What are the pros and cons of each? I tried Dexter's PRIMEE ROM, but wasn't keen on the ASUS/Acer issues. I am currently running Virtuous 1.0.5, but think I might try Dexter's next. Now that these have gone to the leaked Acer 3.1, they should be easier to compare...
I'm talking ONLY the Acer-based ROMs... What works in one but not in the other, what does one do better than the other, etc., etc. Not trying to bash any one ROM -- I am sure each one is great -- just trying to figure out which one to go with long-term.
EDIT: I just realized I may have put this in the wrong place... sorry. If this should go in the "General" discussion, I apologize. Can it be moved or closed (and restarted in General)?
I was wondering the same. I now have the default stock 3.1 loaded and rooted my device. But reading the positive storys of the other roms, I actually want to try them. But not sure where to begin.
Perhaps Ill just wait a week or so and see which thread is most active, that will prob be the most popular rom

Main issue this leak is from china and for me my main issue is uk locale. Websites think I am in wrong region like bbc iplayer etc. English us is only language option in location. The Asus rom is global and when you buy a transformer the 3.1 updates downloads auto and asks you to install it. However Acer are lagging behind too busy with w500 tablet to offer us official 3.1. Asus rom also more multimedia focussed so many parts of it blow this Acer roms away. Widgets on Asus rom are great like email and weather even clock. Pcasso 1.07 is good but graphic glitches and reboots make it a no no for me. Honeyvillian is good but I need a bit more flare on this iconia. Picasso will push this tablet and get most out of it as m-deejay is a major dev. Too early to judge as we really just started here

I'm using tabonay right now, because it's the first one I found that did not require a data wipe when going from acer stock rom. (At the moment, i wasn't inclined to reinstall my apps and widgets). Can't say anything for the other 3.1 roms, as I havn't tried them yet.

Sticking with Virtuous 1.0.6
I have Virtuous 1.0.6 working flawlessly now; and given the nasty bugs that've been reported on 1.0.7 and on Dexter's mod, I won't be updating anytime soon. I don't have any need to overclock so I guess I'm fine with what I've got for now.
I'll wait until things settle down a bit and go with the ROM that seems the least buggy. I imagine things will continue to develop at a furious pace for a couple weeks, then slow down.

where you able to retain your apps from 3.0.1? or have to wipe/format...
I am running HoneyVillain and it may not have much flash as previously mentioned, it is very stable. Given how soon its been since the first ROM was ported, I am putting more emphasis on stability for now.
Well, since Virtuous 1.0.8 is now out with Acer and ASUS based ROMs, I took the plunge (I'm a sucker for new versions). It's awesome. Overclocked by default and running silky smooth.
I think you could probably skip a wipe (and thus keep your apps) if you go straight from 3.0.1 or 3.1 to Virtuous 1.0.8 (as long as you go with the Acer-based ROM). I'm not sure. I wiped before going to a custom ROM.
Keep in mind, you'll lose all settings on your system apps, as the system folder gets deleted.
In case I have missed any thing. Are there any kernel source available for Acer based 3.1 rom up to now? If no, why some self compiled kernel say it can compatible with both Acer & Asus 3.1 ROM? Thanks.
I am using leaked 3.1 advantage being there is no need to wipe out data , disadvantage cannot overclock .

Cool. .Maybe I didn't wait long enough after first boot on Virtuous and Honey Villian.
My 3G Xoom is my first android device. With help from all the great developers I have been able to root. I am currently on Launchpad 1.3 gemini which I love. I do want to get the update to 3.2 but now I am confused as to what to do.
I have read that Launchpad has teamed up with Tiamat. My question is there going to be some Kernal that will allow the 3g users to get 3.2? Tiamat is coming out with all these updates I feel that maybe I am behind. Do I need to just wait?

The newest Tiamat Roms do indeed support the 3G Xooms. Launchpad 1.3 is a kernel for the Xoom, not a custom Rom. It sounds like you are on the stock 3.1 Rom with the Launchpad kernel. Follow the steps I have provided, and follow what the quote below states if you want know a little more additional info.
Step 1: Back up all apps with their data via the Titanium Backup app. Reboot into recovery. Wipe data. Install Tiamat 1.1 Rom:
Titanium Backup on the market
Tiamat 1.1 (HC 3.1)
Step 2: Wipe data again. Install Tiamat 2.1 Hammerhead Rom:
Tiamat 2.1 (HC 3.2)
Step 3: Restore all apps with their data via Titanium Backup.
Step 4: (Optional): Install the overclocked GPU Tiamat kernel:
Tiamat "Tachi" OC GPU kernel (HC 3.2)
From there you should be ready to go with your new Tiamat Honeycomb 3.2 Rom!
And if you need any additional help, let me know, or you can post your question in the appropriate thread that you are having the problem with in the links I have provided above. They are the official Tiamat threads.
okantomi said:
You could flash the Tiamat Rom 1.1 which is for 3.1 (but you will need to wipe (it's a rom) and then flash the manta ray which will get you the 3.2 update, and preserve your root. I love it with the "tachi" kernel. From there you could flash the Hammerhead rom or just hang out with the Manta Ray for a while...It is shark week, right?
EDIT: On edit, I see that Team Tiamat has labeled their Manta Ray rom obsolete, so I guess the progression should be directly fromTiamat Rom 1.1 (for HC3.1) to Hammerhead Rom 2.1. Just load these files onto your sdcard, get into recovery , wipe/factory reset, flash 1.1, reboot, get back to recovery, wipe/factory reset, flash 2.1, reboot and hopefully Win1!
Does that sound about right? Oh and the tachi kernel (non-oc gpu) is included with the 2.1 Hammerhead Rom, but you can flash the oc gpu version over the rom if you like.

Right, I've rooted my Acer a while back and installed CWM (Clock Work Mod for those who don't know) an wondered what is one of the best ROMs out there for it?
Just want the ROM to work with no bugs and has the possible ability to overclock (only a but though) plus that has some of its bloatware removed. Any Ideas? Greatly appreciate any good comments
You have an A500 or an A501?
For A500 / A501 Taboonay, 2.0 or 2.2 The Ginger stuff is ok also. Lightspeed is ok also, but you have to run the patch.
For a little less cooked, try Harkon or Ice. But for Ice, I recommend the thor 3.9R3 Kernel. And for Harkon
Thors kernels are the best.
Thor. Stable, fast and overclockable. Simply the best Rom out there right now for the A500.
I have tried Taboony, ran Lightspeed from 1.0.1 - 1.0.7 and although it is a GREAT clean ROM I have been using Thor's 14.2 and it is Amazing! I think Thor is a tad above Lightspeed right now. Make sure u get the flashable file to make it more Acer instead of ASUS if you want to use your Gameloft games.
+1 Thor's ROM v14. 2
+1, Thor's ROM v14.2 !
Another +1 for Thor's rom. Installed V12 a few weeks ago, and then V13 came out. Being a beginner, I was unsure if I wanted to upgrade and deal w/ possible user error issues, but the update to V14.2 was fool-proof.
Ok, I've seen many people here talking about Thor with pleasure... I am thinking about rooting my device, but, what I have to do exactly to keep my Gameloft games working?
9mm I believe is Gameloft, and it ran fine.

Ok, not trying to hijack the thread. I just ordered an a500 from best buy for $219. I have rooted my evo and a flytouch 3 before so i know it has it's advantages. In a nut shell what does thor do over acer's default scenario? IF there is a sticky or link that answers that i'll take it.
Thanks
Another thor 14.2
I have tried them all and thors 14.2 kicks ass, love it and have had no problems.

The difference between 3.2 and 3.2.1 for G100W consists in update of applications of Google. In that case VG 1.1.0 it is possible to consider the same 3.2.1. Whether the Samsung will be let out 3.2.1 for Ð7õõ0 by me don't know. ICS 4.0 will be let out in the spring for Ð7õõ0. If there will be no problems with transfer, I will make on it following VG.

Thank you for doing this. I was thinking the same thing. Nice job and this was definitely need. Much confusion about which, where and how to find them.
But where is the real V13 link ......
What are the differences between the different boot kernels?

There are kernels, no ROMS.
If you want a fresh R13 RC1 for a reverse, there is not one.
I still get lock screen of death with all these kernels, how do I fix this problem?

Take a look at your CPU min value, if it's set at 100, that could be why your lockscreen doesn't respond. Bump it up to 200 and that should fix it.

I seem to have this fixed by installing NSTools and enabling Deep Idle.

Best performance/smoothness I have found using passion v13 and this kernel: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1432051
it has lots of performance tweaks but really helps with the 65fps increase. all other kernels I have tested only have 55-56 fps. the 10fps makes a huge difference in the smoothness of transitions and especially in 3d apps.
you can easily test by downloading "FPS Test" on the android market. its free.
one drawback: I wasn't able to overclock over 1.1ghz stable. I had to use nstools to live OC as built in overclock did not have 1100mhz option with this kernel
Multiupload down...
can you make another link?
Thanks
Great job!
with latest pics kissed+ kernel GPS is a go after deep sleep.

Thanks for posting the links, cleanup link is not working in passion thread. I have few newbee questions
Currently i am running bionix 1.3.1 Fishmanmod.
1) I have read somewhere that one can install this over bionix 1.3.1 without cm7 and GB Bootloaders. Resulting boot loop can be fixed by reflashing ICS passion by removing the battery.
OR is better to JFD to stock froyo and install CM7 and bootloaders. Is the ICS_Passion_v13_boot.zip file i would use to flash booloader or should i download from bootloader link in ICS Passion post.
2) How to use clean up patch, do i use it before or after installing ICS Passion.
Thanks for your help.

I have always done the Odin JFD > CWM CM7 > Odin GB Bootloader > ICS.
The ICS_Passion_v13_boot.zip is the kernel from Passion v13rc1. The clean up patch is ONLY used after flashing the v13boot3 kernel. Using the v13 cleanup patch with any other kernel can possibly mess with your phone and require a Odin to JFD. (1st hand experience)
Thanks for this great post, followed it and was able to install ICS Passion on my vibrant. I have a quick question, now all the carrier names are displayed as numbers. Do you know of any fix for that.
One more thing i want to add is that my camera/video was not working and i had tried couple of different roms but all gave me this error "Camera failed". But now its working like a charm. Cannot post in dev forum right now but would like to thank the developer.
No wipe is a must.

The Kiss kernel is included with EuphoriaRC1, but Kiss v2.2 was released afterwards. Kiss v2.2 also solves many problems people were having kernels included with Passion starting with v12 to v13rc1, i.e. GPS w&w/o deepsleep and also Speakerphone issues.
