In the US, I know a custom rom of any kind will void the warranty. I don't know the laws of other countries though.
The roms themselves don't void warranty. Rooting your phone in general voids the warranty. However, if you unroot your phone before taking it back (I have done this before) they don't know it has been rooted and your warranty is still good.

Have you tried searching or even reading a few threads in this forum?
I have searched through this forum, but am unable to locate a solid answer.
I rooted my Xoom 3.0, using the one-click root.
What is the proper method to upgrade to 3.1?
This is the US WIFI only Xoom
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Can't root 3.2.1. Having the same problem. Tried the adb method, ginger break, iconia root, etc. Found method to revert back to 3.0 and then root, install recovery and go from there. In the middle of trying that now. Google is your friend.

So, I'm going to get the D802 variant tomorrow.
I want to root this phone, but still be able to use warranty in case I need it.
What I'm going to do is:
1. Root using this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2448887
2. If I need to un-root to get warranty repair, is it correct all I need to do is flash my stock ROM again and they will have no clue this phone was ever rooted ? if so, (A) can I backup my stock ROM before rooting, so I could use it when I need, and if so, how ? (B) what program do I use to flash my stock ROM, if I want to un-root ?
Thanks!
Edit:
I just saw this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2471370
Does this answer my #2 question regarding how to flash my stock ROM ? (so I don't even have to save my ROM, I can download it from there?)
Doesn't anyone has an answer for this ?
This is a very important issue to anyone who root and want to be sure he doesn't lose warranty...

You want a manufacturers warranty you don't root.... You want to root you get insurance.... You have insurance, you won't make a thread like this.

I'm not sure what are you talking about... you can definitely root AND have warranty (all around the world). The only thing you need to do is un-root before you send it for warranty repair. This thread deals exactly with that - how to un-root.
I've rooted every phone I've gotten since the Incredible 1 and not once have I unrooted before sending it in for warranty. All they do is check the hardware, hook it up to a machine, and flash the stock software. End of story.
