[Q] Virgin Mobile unroot question

I've got a Legend on Virgin (Canada) and I'm still debating rooting it. My question is if I needed to unroot for warranty or whatever else, would I need to find a Virgin branded ROM? Or could I just use a generic ROM and update normally? I'm still reading up on the whole root procedure but I want to make sure I know what's going on before I try it.

i think you would have to re-root with a virgin rom if you sent it to htc for warranty...
on the virgin legend i think we have to downgrade the bootloader before we can root and flash with a new rom
i am also debating on rooting but will probably wait until there is an official 2.2 rom from htc (supposedly this month)

So if that is the case (I agree it probably is), does anybody know where I can find the proper ROM? From what I gather I can't back it up until I've rooted the phone, but to do that I need to downgrade using a generic ROM, which means that I've already lost mine (correct me if I'm wrong...). Shipped-roms doesn't have it. I don't really want to root unless I have the option of at least attempting to reverse it because I'm paying for an extended replacement plan that I don't think I can get out of. Not too worried about the rooting process, but it'd be lame if something else happened and I couldn't unroot to send it back.

The Virgin HTC Legend is the same as Bell's rom wise and shipped roms have Bell's 2.03

Perm root and unroot, warranty questions.

I'm currently using the temp root solution through visionary with the assumption that if something arose that I would want to use tmobiles insurance thing to warranty my phone in the event something happened, I could just remove all traces of it as to not encounter a warranty issue. My question with the now perm root, is there anything available to unroot the device, essentially returning it to stock so there wouldn't be an issue? I don't have a problem with it voiding the warranty/insurance once its perm rooted if there is no way to return it to stock, I'll just cancel my monthly insurance charge if that's the case.

There was a post earlier today saying that all you have to do is flash it back to stock. It even had instructions. Having said that you shouldn't worry about perm root interfering with your warranty.

I spoke with T-Mo Android support today and was told that rooting voids the mfc. warranty, but that reverting back to stock should yield no issues.

i had the same questions after i perm rooted.. glad to know the answer

How to go from DJ Steve to Stock Unrooted?

Hey guys,
I upgraded my girlfriends Streak to DJ Steves 1.1 a while ago.
The LCD is now broken and needs to be sent back for replacement under warranty, so I need to get back to stock 2.2 for Optus Australia (unrooted).
Does anyone know the steps to doing this? (I can still use the screen, just the corner is broken).
Your help would be GREATLY appreciated

Can I just find the Optus 2.2 zip and flash it? or could that brick the phone?
Hopefully this isn't too hard

If the screen is broken, why would they care if it was modded? It's not like the software broke the screen.

I just wanted to make sure that they don't try and say the warranty is void. Do you think that it should be fine?

I think you'll be fine. I have yet to hear a story about a company claiming warranty void for a rooted/custom rom.
Also if u do find the .zip, it should work if you flash it with a custom recovery. If you get the stock .pkg file then you'll need the stock recovery with a version before the stock rom your attempting to flag or you'll get a FOTA model mismatch error

ok, I might just take it in if you think it'll be ok, since I haven't found the optus version of the 2.2 Rom that I need. I doubt they'll know anyway (people at phone shops seem to have no idea about phones).

I don't believe there is an Optus version of 2.2 as the Optus Streak is exactly the same as the unlocked EU Streak.
Just use QDL tool to get you back to stock.

Where exactly do the manufacturers draw the line of warranty?
Rooting.
Upgrading firmware (definitely is under warranty)
ROMs flashing ( I dont think this keeps the phone under warranty..)

I have CFW Gen C with Prometheus, which lets me enjoy the "superuser" status there.
and I can play the developed games too "non-market" "third party" apps !!
If I restart my PSP it auto boots to Original Firmware (5.03) !!
So, I can take it to Sony any time if required ( I hope I nevva have to!!)

I have read somewhere, rooting is not going to void the warranty.
But if you flash after the rooting.. then you void your warranty.

Well I didn't take it back to the stock firmware in the end, I just took it in and am hoping that they don't notice. I think they'll probably just turn it on, see the screen is broken, then either tell us that it's covered by warranty or that we have to pay for a new phone.
Sony, I think that if you unlock the bootloader then the warranty is void. There are some way's of rooting some phones that don't unlock it. Not totally sure on this though.
So I've got my fingers crossed they don't notice that it's tooted

Sorry to resurrect an old topic, but my Streak is running DJ Steves build but it has suddenly started acting very odd, most noticeably not registering many of my touches.
I flashed to another ROM and the issue is still there. I am sure Optus will try to void the warranty given that it could be seen as a software issue even though it isn't. I am hopeful that the insurance will help me get an HTC One X
Is there an actual answer to this question?

[edit] I can't get an optus ROM but this update.pkg works with this recovery.img it should keep them happy unless the look too deep.

[Q] Rooting and warranty Samsung galaxy 3 gt-i5800

Hello everybody,
I`m new to the rooting part of android phones and i have searched a lot about the risks of rooting. One problem i couldn`t solve is the warranty voiding problem. If you root your phone warranty will void, right? Well if i root my phone and something breaks, is there maybe a way i can make it look like the phone was never rooted and get my warranty back?

or u can just re flash the original rom again via Odin
download the original rom from samfirmware and re flash it if u want to give ur phone for warranty purposes or read the roll up thread in the development section i have given a few rooting thread links their is also info on how to un root in one of the threads

What's going to break?

I want to root my M but don't like the idea of losing my warranty. So what problems have you guys had that would be covered under warranty?

From what I can tell, rooting the stock rom is a software issue and should not void any hardware warranties, and if you break the phone with insurance on it how can they possibly tell any way? The issue arises when you put a custom rom on your phone. I'll give you an example: I bricked my M trying to put a custom rom on it, so i used RSD lite to flash the standard rom, and still had issues, so i went to the Verizon store and gave the some bs and they scanned it and factory reset it for me. Voilà!

I think rooting a phone voids the whole warranty. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I don't have insurance on it I roll all hard core like that. I'm wondering what have people had problems with?
