Can't root 3.2.1. Having the same problem. Tried the adb method, ginger break, iconia root, etc. Found method to revert back to 3.0 and then root, install recovery and go from there. In the middle of trying that now. Google is your friend.

Hi there
I'm new to Android and will receive my Transformer tomorrow.
First I will update it to 3.1, and then I'd like to root it.
But... there my wisdom ends. What exactly do I have to do to root it? Is it a command, do I have to install something or a whole ROM?
Thanks for a hint, and sorry, I'm just a noob
Easiest thing to do is out of the box (don't let it update OTA to 3.1) root & install CWM (guide here). Then, install one of the custom ROMs around here, either Prime 3.1 or Modaco. Both are basically the same so take your pick.
First of all wrong forum. This should be in general. Second, did you even take the time to read? To answer your question you need to be on 3.01 in order to root so I wouldn't upgrade to 3.1 if you wanted to root. There is a guide here that will show you step by step on how to setup your Tf for root.

Again, wrong forum. But here are the steps...u will probably be pn 8.2.3.9 or 8.2.3.13. Anyways u have to downgrade to 8.2.3.9,then root n inatall cwm. Then install primordial 3.1.n custom kernel if u want. Anything u upgarade to,u will have to downgrade on 3.9 because currently theres root method for 3.13 or hc3.1.

I don't think anyone has tried rooting 3.2 with a nap yet, maybe that will work. Put it to sleep, then root it lol.
If anyone had found a one click root for 3.2, you can bet you'd see multiple threads on it knowing the monkeys around here

No they have not to answer your question
I'm assuming you don't want to do the downgrade process to root your tab then?
Acer a500 (rom) Civato Mix
HTC Inspire (rom) Rcmix 3.3 sense 3.5
No nap root method.but there is a downgrade/install rooted 3.2.
Naps are fun when taken with the correct person root Not required.

I did the downgrade and root method and didn't even lose data. It's seriously easy. Follow the instructions.
Link to downgrade
I can't seem to find the instructions. Thought they were stickied to main page but don't see them. I have 3.2 and would like to either downgrade and load rooted 3.2 or even just downgrade so I can root 3.1 and use that again.

Understatement of the century there. Takes about twenty minutes, including the time it takes to search the dev forum using the phrase "downgrade 3.2". You don't even need a PC, you can do it all using the tablet.
@ingrouille, it's in the development forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1276227
Then I would recomend [ROM] Rooted Stock HC 3.2 US Rom for CWM only (5-oct-11)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1290318
It's a stock rom that is already rooted, flashed through CWM.
Chad
Many thanks.
ugh, can't seem to revert. tried method two a multitude of times but I get the android logo with the yield/exclamation point each time.
wonder whats going on. checked formatting, the zip itself, the card is recognized by the tab, hmmm. any ideas? I've seen a few other people are having this issue also.

It looks like that's an A500 ROM, correct? I'd like to keep the "4G" portion enabled, so I don't think that will work for me. Drat.
Have you ever tried to search the forums?
This way works fine for the stock 3.2 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1307539
I used it to root my friend's A500 last week.

So... you basically cooked up your own rom and added SU to it.
To anyone else who needs to root just download kekinash's stock rom with superuser, it's the exact same thing as this without the steps just flash and you have rooted 3.2.
And you are in a small group of people that have SD card issues, I've owned 2 Iconia a500's and neither had a single SD issue.
It wasn't me
It was timmyDean who added root for stock 3.2. he described how to get root in adb shell only (the very first post in the thread I posted)
The way to add superuser for applications was described by chrishohl on the 3rd page of the same thread
Following his how-to one can get the rooted stock 3.2 without downgrade.

Nope, I haven't any issues with SD card, the only goal for now is 3G USB modem kernel modules. I haven't find any modules for the stock 3.2 kernel version.
Those for 3.1 failed to load with insmod since they had been built for another kernel version.

Updated this morning and rooted using this thread in Dev section : Full root for A500 ICS 4.0.3[LEAK]. Simple method. My build is Acer_AV041_A500_1.033.00_PA_CUS1
Interesting I used tegraowners black thunder root 6.0 and successfully rooted my tablet after official updated Acer a500. My build number is the 1.033 Gen 2. However on this black thunder root my build number is not listed as supported but it worked and rooted my tablet. Does it make any difference?.. also what is the remount app for?

My thoughts exactly...
Who cares how you get root?!
Well, of course everyone has a copy of Windows conveniently located. I mean, it's a law, isn't it?
I admit I have sinned and don't have one that is easy to get to. I usually don't use it. Please don't burn me at the stake.
as am I
I'm also looking for root for official ICS release from Friday.

Thanks mate. I have been checking every day since the initial release. Now I can quit doing so until May 17 then.
Was looking every where to see if anyone in Australia had received it.
Cheers.
EDIT: this is not quite true. My tab notified me of the update a couple of hours ago. I am still downloading now.

hi everyone, i'm a501 user and decided to use Alexandra V ROM..
My question, do I need to root my a501 before install the ICS bootloader ? Now i'm using official HC 3.2.1 and never experienced in rooting.
If rooting is necessary, how to root official A501 HC 3.2.1? Maybe gingerbreak 1.2 ?
thanks before

Well, rooting is generally the first step. HOWEVER.... you will need to;
a. Flash the ICS patched bootloader
b. Flash a CWM or Public Recovery
c. Have the Alex V.zip already on your external SD Card, that way, it is ready to install after doing the above 2 steps.
Now the current Alex V you can run a simple root after install, so rooting now, is rather not necessary. Also, you might want to wait 3 or 4 days. We just got a new ICS update today, that if works well, I will change out the Rom version. Probably Sunday if all goes well. Will save you the time of re-installing the rom again.
The only reason you would want to root right now, would be to install a CWM and make a backup of your current system., In case you ever wanted to go back to HC. But note; HC roms do not run on ICS bootloaders and vice-versa. Also, The CWM's will be different for ICS. So it's sort of like once you commit to ICS, you go all the way, and never back to HC (you can, but who would want to).
Oh yeah, don't use Gingerbreak. It will probably bork things up. As of 3.2, rooting became a little difficult.
So in the meantime, while you wait, you can read this thread as it contains instructions.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1622425
Note that the above procedures (manual or automatic) usually work about 90% of the time. Seeing you are currently on stock 3.2.1, I don't foresee an issue. Any questions, post them in the instructions thread.

Ok MD, thanks for your explanation, so i don't need root my current ROM to install ICS boot loaded right?
Thanks a lot

You shouldn't. The bootloader program uses NVFlash, which is initialized before the OS starts. The only requirement I believe is USB Debugging must be turned on in the system settings, but that's really more of a precaution than anything. I've not used these programs, as I did it a long time ago the old fashioned way. AKA semi-bricked my tab.....:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh: Heck, I didn't even "have" an OS, and got the bootloader and CWM installed
Read the stuff. Understand what you're getting into.
And.... Get your current UID number and write it down somewhere safe. This is really your only protection if something goes bad. Usually it doesn't but you will also need it during the process.
When you get ready to do this (after I hopefully have a newer version in a few days), you can post in my thread for help. Got some good guys there with 501's that can lend some advice.
MD
Sory MD, I haven't got permission to post in your thread due to lack posting.. I have installed v8-thor. 1.7. 3_recovery.A500apx, now I still able to boot into my HC ROM. but now I couldn't find any cwm mod recovery.A500apx to install in my tab. How then?
Thank you very much

What easier way to root 3.2.1 rom
I tried every way, but not
Sorry my English is poor
There is only one way for 3.2.1....u must install a pre rooted custom rom....search "timmydean v4".
You will need yr "cpuid" and drivers from Acer and google, see the cpuid guide in my sig or sticky in development forum.
