i want to flash my new phone to metro pcs so that messaging ,internet ,and talking works also the gps system . can someone giv me steps by step how to doit ,i need the best rated recent tutorial there is out there .. where could i fint it ?
There are locations that do it, but they aren't cited. You'll have to first get your Epic's ESN on MetroPCS..
(I'm one of the Few Members --don't know of any others though-- that have their Epic on MetroPCS..) I took it to a location that did it for me though because I didn't have the time to dig through forums looking for those locations that'll add your ESN to Metro.

The people who did it were representing a Company called 'Beige Phone' they indeed have a site, might wanna give them a call, if there's a location near you, be ready to shell out 50-75 bucks.

Unless you open up business with MetroPCS,open up your own store, and become an Authorized Dealer, in order to have access to their system's ESNs.. No.

There is to add an ESN to the system.
Flash a sacrificial esn from a metro phone? Kinda Like the boost method. Just a guess. I am on sprint. Lol
Sent from my Epic. Which is better than yours.
Boost mobile charges the dealer $15 to get the esn added..the cheapest u will find to get the esn added will be $25..but they usully charge $40. Metropcs internet speed is painfully slow to the point ur battery dies faster. I highly reccomend u to have it connect it to boostmobile instead

does boost mobile use gps system and gets 3g?
It most certainly does. In case you didn't know, boost IS sprint's prepaid network.. so yeah, things will mesh a lot better on the original network. As for me, I'm only with Metro because no other prepaid network has Roaming Coverage that's compatible with my phone in the specific part of Oregon that I'm in. So 10 bucks a month for Roaming is a walk through the park for me.

Yea I'm definitely considering flashing my epic to boostmobile. I went from paying $50/month to $101/month with sprint. To many ridiculous taxing going on. $10/mth for ****ty 4g in Tampa! Can't even use the **** lollll.....

If someone could get firmware out from FUS server....
correct me if im wrong but isnt the us cellular mesmorize also the i500? and the code listed on twitter saying USC seems to indicate its not for us
(as someone who works on themes i dont think i can deal with porting to another tw build )
Yes, US Cellular (Code: USC) is the Mesmerize, and is also a SCH-I500. It isn't directly compatible with the Fascinate. They do list another I500, but with a code of XAR. I think this might be the Cellular South Showcase. I also believe it is like the Mesmerize in that it's not directly compatible with the Fascinate.
The code for Verizon is VZW.

I still personally believe they are all interchangable...just a matter of gettimg the settings right. My phone is running a verizon modem on a different carrier...
All of the mesmerize roms I've flashed booted just fine; its essentially the same hardware. The problems begin to arise when a different modem is used. In that sense its about as functional as a fascinate rom w/o phone or web capability.
In my case I found it to be a valuable tool in recovering from a brick. I always keep a stock mesmerize rom handy. It was the one thing that would flash and boot into recovery. From there odin could successfully flash a stock vzw i500 file and my phone worked again.
Lesson learned: don't touch the phone button in odin and read up every last bit of information available before taking similar risks.
That about sums up my experience with mesmerize roms.

But I think, regardless of the modem, it can be done. It's just a matter of using the correct configuration setup in qpst. For example, I'm using a Verizon modem on a completely different CDMA carrier. I just had to adjust the um and am in ppp config along with mob + simple bx in qpst and it works like a charm. So long as you have a functioning prl, it's just a matter of finding a tunnel for 3g. In other words, you would be using a flashed phone on US Cellular. I've used sprint phones on verizon, both sprint and verizon on cricket ect. It's just a matter of finding the right settings.
I was not aware this was possible. Interesting. Are there any advantages besides the obvious one of carrier choice?

I feel bad for US and Southwest Cellular users b/c of their lack of development capabilities so I was willing to look into it for them. As far as advantages, I've found ironically that some radios do enhance call quality, but having the correct prl is key. Our phones share identical hardware...only difference is the modem software. It's funny though no one has noticed it though, but often ppl will flash dl09 or eb01 modems and still get partial use, either data or call/text. It's obvious it's working, however since you're no longer on that previous radio, the settings would have to be adjusted. Honestly, if anyone is willing to try...I don't mind helping.

Verizon f'd up with me bigtime talkin about 197 a month for two fascinates ?! wtf ... and thats not even unlimited minutes, I have unlimited everything on both phones for 55$ a piece. with 3.13$ of tax, not 25$, the 3g is negligibly different from verizons, at a fraction of the cost. Voice and text actually come through more often for me, i wasn't getting calls etc when using verizon.
Two fascinates, Android plan, $113.13. My oldest daughter is born on 12/13/05 so the 13 doesn't bother me, it was actually a good sign, especially with a new baby on the way next month. Until I get this job, and can afford a 200$ phone bill (alone until she goes back to work) i'm going to stick with cricket. Good thing is, I can always go back to vzw, purchase a phone outright as an upgrade, and then flash that one back to cricket also now that I know how to

I actually really enjoy cricket. PRL hacking is easy with them, and they share towers with sprint anyways. The best part though is you're not limited to any specific phone or carrier. I can use any CDMA android I want.

That's correct. At least I think I did. I tried many bizarre combinations of tar files in just about every button in odin. I didn't know any better.
If it really is IMPOSSIBLE to recover from a phone flash then I don't know what to think anymore.

It's definitely possible to recover from that. Before we had modems to flash, it wasn't.

To summarize: every CDMA Galaxy S ROM will work as long as I do one of the following:
1) Install a Verizon I500 modem
-or-
2) Use the correct settings with the existing modem.
I wanted to install AOSP 2.2, and then replace the parts that didn't work from another ROM, but I was worried about this part. This information helps. Thank you.

I'd still save back ups incase you run into problems. But as long as you use a modem that is for an i500 it's a matter of finding the right settings. I'm trying to find one I can teenker with for the non verizon users.

i'm a showcase user and I flashed the EB16... the modem works Perfect? I guess you can say... last night i was getting very slow speeds using speedtest app, but today i've gotten the fastest speeds ever... So i think it may be just the fact that Cell South's network is so finicky.. I've always gotten different speed test even when i was stock, from 1 test to the next will be drastically different..
However the problems i've having with the ROM are:
GPS button will not turn on....
When you reboot you have to re log in to gmail/twitter/facebok
for some reason Exchange email stays logged in..
ADB won't give SU access because it says it's a production build..
It won't let me access the market..
I think it's the same problems for the mesmerize, and more than likely will be the case for the Fascinate..
But if we could all figure this out, then we could possibly have 1 ROM for all 3 phones making it simple to port themes/mods/etc...
I really wish some DEVS would help us out with this..

I believe it's def. doable. It's just a matter of trying to figure out a way for the roms to have universal settings. All I500's store their values for their network in the same location, hence the reason why qpst will register the phones as the same phone. The only thing I've noticed different is the modem and the way the rom reacts to the modem and those settings. For example, I am in the process of using kaos v5 and it has reset my connections. No 3g but talk and text. If I can figure out how the values are being pulled I can adjust the settings and we may be a step closer to having gingerbread on all three devices.
I just read about this new TEP app for Sprint customers only that has some useful features, but the paranoid side of me wonders if this app reports back to Asurion as to weather or not your phone is rooted, and if so are there any negative consequences?
http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/0...ame-sprint-tep-subscribers-reap-the-benefits/
Search the Market for Total Equipment Protection to install.
Yeah i saw that article. You bring up a really valid question. Sounds like something they would do... sneaky sneaky.
I immediately thought to myself that they'll eventually force all TEP customers to have it installed on their phones. That'd not only help lost phones be recovered more often but also give them a way to deny claims over 'stolen' phones or even rooted phones.
I definitely smell something fishy....
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
YA, no way I'm installing that till a dev has a closer look at it.
One of the responses to the article makes a valid point-
"They won’t deny insurance claims for rooted phones. It would make no logical sense for them to cover me if I literally dropped my phone in a meat grinder and never retrieved it, but they would deny me if my phone is rooted. The permissions didn’t seem outlandish to me at all for what the app does. You can go to the market, hit the install button, and read the permissions without installing it if you’re curious, though."

Thanks for the info. I am going to assume nothing fishy in terms of Asurion or Sprint surreptitiously combing your phone to see if it's rooted. The author made no mention of such a thing and stated that he has been flashing roms like crazy lately. I would think he would have made some type warning about rooting/flashing if there was a need for concern.

Doesn't work on my phone and I have TEP. I'm rooted and modded six ways to Sunday....
If I get a TEP cancellation notice I will post back, but I highly doubt they would be that sneaky. I know a lot of sprint employees who would scream bloddy murder.
We need someone to flash stock, install the app, and then root it and report back. I'm guessing it has nothing to do with the root, but more to do with running a custom OS.

So perhaps it is a DK28 issue. Who has it running on the epic? Need to know which OS and Rom to figure this out.

The app will not even install if you not using a stock Rom. It sees it as an unsupported device. Right from the faq on the site
Why is the Protection Application not working on my phone, even when I have a compatible device?
We do our best to stay up to date with the latest Sprint certified releases, but it’s possible we have not yet certified the Protection application for the latest update to your handset's operating system. Please check back again for a future update. Thank you for your interest in the Protection Application and we apologize for the inconvenience.
Please note: We do not support rooted Android devices. The Protection Application is only compatible with operating systems that are Sprint certified and unmodified for your device.
If that were true how did the author get it to work on a rommed evo? I still think it is from the OS we are using.

Just thinking of the new sprint ID and was at the store yesterday checking out a BB that had it (they also mentioned that our froyo will probably have it). Tried the Business ID thinking it would dl Documents To Go, but it dl some Handmark product that I had never heard about.
Then I remembered an old movie (forbidden planet) and it popped into my mind that id is a psychological term for the subconcious mind. This is the place where nightmares come from...

Sprint ID is a hassle,I wiped my brothers Zio so I could sell it... When I restarted it wouldn't let me past the install ID page. Here's a tip if you still want to use a phone for a music/video/whatever player after you activate a diffrent phone; From the Sprint ID page, click menu,Sprint Zone, then try to download a Sprint app. It will say trying to connect, but it won't,let it give you an error, then it will come up with the networks settings box, turn on wifi, then as soon as it connects try to download a Sprint app again. Now when the market opens, download any Home launcher replacment, this will get you past the Sprint ID page.I know it seems like a lot to do. I messed up because I wiped the phone, and any phone that comes with Sprint ID want s you to be on Sprint network to download one.

where did you see sprint ID for epic??? I didnt think it would, as that internal page about the update for epic and zio listed ID as part of the zio update, but not on the Epic... I would think that they would mention it, as to most people, theyre selling their overlay crap as a good thing...so thats the way they would want the sales reps to present it.... just speculation though... and that is one ugly, useless overlay... worst ive seen.
if theyre doing that to Berrys... RIM really is dead.

I really don't think the Epic will have it since it uses TouchWiz,so no problem... And the tip I provided is only a tip when you decide to activate a diffrent phone; Say you had a Zio,and you got an Epic, and you want to use the Zio for music, and apps from the market or what ever, just don't wipe the phone once its been deactivated or you will need to do those steps I provided to get past the Sprint Id screen when it reboots, its a pain in the ass. Took me a good 30min to figure out how to get wifi on because you can't get to any menu options until you get off the Spint Id page. And then you still need to download a diffrent Launcher for it to work, its Fd up.

Have a friend who wants to switch from sprint to metro pcs. Need to find out if it is possible to buy the phone from sprint and switch it to metro. Is this possible?
I don't know how, never tried, but there's tons of little cell shops where I live that'll take any Sprint phone to Metro PCS, even with a bad esn.
You can. you have to use a program called qpst and qxdm. Real higher level phone memory stuff with a higher chance of bricking your phone if you don't know what your doing.

Yes, it can be done. Actually, Im having quite the opposite problem. I have an evo shift that has already been flashed over to metro.
My problem is trying to figure out how the hell to flash back to sprint. (Phone has clean esn and I did verify thru sprint)
Also, Im willing to do a dump here, so others can just flash the dump on their phones or whatever it is that I could do to help the next group of folks who want to flash from sprint to metro, before I flash back to stock.
Guess I have to go dig/search thru a few hundred threads or so.

lol, whatever program/method they use is the one that WE want to stay away from. Reason being is this: They (metro) have not figured out how to get mms working and a few other things.
Well, im not saying their program totally doesnt work, but it doesnt totally work either!!
The closest thing i can find is how to flash the EVO over to metro. Since this is a "modded" version of the evo, then shouldnt the same tools/method work for flashing back to sprint on the SHIFT?
let me start off by saying sorry if i am posting this in the wrong section. I am just calling of for help from my xda friends.
By saying that, i am looking into buying another Evo 4g for my GF witch has a ****ty blackberry for verizon i was wondering if anyone has found out how to flash it over to verizon. now i have done some research and have seemed to get no where. many people said its illegal to copy the esn. that maybe yu can mirror another verizon phones prl. im just stumped on the whole situation. quite frankly idc what kind on htc or android phone it is i would just like to be able to flash to verizon to make her happy. i would really appreciate it if someone would help me out with this.
Why use a evo on verizon? ThunderBolt would be much better and should be able to get for the same price.
Yeah, my boyfriend wanted a phone "like mine" but refused to switch to Sprint. He travels a lot and needs decent speeds. He got the Thunderbolt & it's similar to the Evo. Comes stock with Sense 2.1, but it's still on FroYo. There are Gingerbread roms for it if that's what you're looking for.
It's a newer phone than the Evo but has about the same specs as the Evo. His phone stock matches mine rooted performance-wise, but his battery life is worse than mine.
I think getting a Thunderbolt would be a lot easier than trying to use an Evo on Verizon.

Verizon will NOT activate a non-Verizon device on their network. Period. If you choose to clone esn and such illegal measures, you do it at your own risk. Why go through all this trouble and risk being prosecuted for breaking the law when you can just buy a Verizon phone instead? Doesn't make much sense.
Honestly don't like the thunderbolt and the illegal stuff there are ways around our ii kno it. Was just looking to see if anyone knew them.
